GREENSBORO - Mr. Arnold C. Hall, 76, of Greensboro died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Greensboro. Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, in the Hall Family cemetery in Pulaski, Va. Mr. Hall was retired from the Department of the Army and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was one of the founders of the Bur Mill Seniors Golf Association and one of the founders of the Monroeton Seniors Golf Association. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife Doris M. Hall of the home, son Robert C. Hall Sr. and his wife Mary Ann of Alexandria, Va., son Steven W. Hall of Great Falls, Va., daughter Janet H. Enos and her husband Jerry of Winston-Salem; brothers Jesse B. Hall and his wife Shirley of Tallahassee, Fla., and Bobby Lee Hall and his wife Theola of Morganton; seven grandchildren, Cheryl, Jeanine, Robert C. Jr., Jessica, Laura Beth, David and Michael; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Hart. A Rosary service will be held 6:45 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, and the family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. at Forbis & Dick Guilford Chapel on West Friendly Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Hospice at Greensboro 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.

HARVEY

Mrs. Ethel Tiller Harvey, 97, of 2787 Reynolds Park Road and formerly of 1030 Claremont Ave. passed away Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Lancaster, S.C., on June 14, 1903, the daughter of the late Alex and Angemire Monger, where she was reared in a Christian home. She was employed for many years at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Factory #38. Those left to celebrate her life are three children out of six, two daughters, Wauchular H. Samuels of Winston-Salem and Blossom Hodge Tynes of Greensboro and one son, Isiah T. Hodge Sr. of Richmond, Va.; seven grandchildren, Brenda M. Grinage of Charlotte, Margaret Blossom McArthur, Judy Hodge Myers and Larry Covington of Winston-Salem, Elmer Hodge of Fresno, Calif., Wauchular Hodge Reed of Richmond, Va., and Isiah T. Hodge Jr. of Staten Island, N.Y.; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grand-children; one special niece, Elsie Lyde Davis of Winston-Salem; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with Minister Winston H. Bryan III officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. Monday at the Russell Funeral Home. EAST BEND - Mr. William Hiram Johnson, 75, of 4029 Old Mill Road passed away Saturday Feb. 3, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. The funeral arrange-ments are incomplete at this time. Huff Funeral Home of East Bend is serving the Johnson family.

KLEITCHES

LEWISVILLE - James G. Kleitches of Lewisville died Feb. 2, 2001 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Survivors include his mother, Lena B. Kleitches of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Joann Hayes and Deborah Semones of King; four brothers, Omar Kleitches of Jacksonville, Edward W. Kleitches of Walkertown, Jack Kleitches of Rural Hall and and Rodney W. Kleitches of Marion; his fiance, Debbie Darrah of Lewisville; seven nieces and four nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Chapel at 79 Motor Road. Pastor Bobby Cranfill will officiate. Memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C, S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Chapel.

MASENCUP

EAST BEND - Mr. Worth A. Masencup, 75, died Saturday, Feb. 3 at his home in East Bend. Mr. Masencup was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 23, 1925 to Robah and Ada Hicks Masencup. He was a member of Shallowford Baptist Church and had worked as a machinist for Todd Motion Control. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He is survived by his wife, Dorotha Luper Masencup, of the home; his daughter, Dawn M. Davis, and her husband, Jim, of Lewisville; his grandson, Chad Austin Huff; and his granddaughter, Amy Dawn Huff, of Lewisville; and his two brothers, Joe Masencup and DeWitt Masencup, of Pfafftown. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with the Rev. Bill James officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. before the funeral service. A military graveside service by the District 11 V.F.W. Honor Guard will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 202 CentrePort Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27409, or to Shallowford Baptist Church, 2440 Beroth Road, Pfafftown, N.C. 27040.

MESSICK

Ronald Lee Messick, 62, of 3647 Emma Ave. went to his heavenly mansion on Feb. 1, 2001. He was born Dec. 24, 1938, to W.M. and Margaret Messick, and was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem. He graduated from Griffith High School. Mr. Messick retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 31 years of service in the tobacco processing department. He was of the Baptist faith and taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir and played softball. His faith in God sustained him, even through his years of declining health. Mr. Messick was an accomplished artist and spent many afternoons restoring antique Chevrolet trucks. He enjoyed family trips to Topsail Island, and watching NASCAR races and Duke basketball and Atlanta Braves games. He was fond of lighthouses, and to those who loved him, he was a beacon of light. He unselfishly gave comfort, love, support and safe harbor. Mr. Messick was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Helen M. Jones. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife of 41 years, Karlene B. Messick of the home; three daughters, Teresa (Walt) Metz of Dallas, Texas; Ronda (Ed) Bumgardner and grandson Lowell of Winston-Salem; Sara (Larry) McGarvey and granddaughter Natalie of Winston-Salem. He was a special grandfather to Miles and Julian Bumgardner. His surviving brother and sisters, William R. (Wella Mae) Messick; Elaine Myers; and Alice (Worth) Shuman, also share in his legacy of love. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Forsyth Memorial Park with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating. MONEY

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Mr. Carroll Odell Money, 76, of 207 Church Ave., Syracuse, N.Y., formerly of Mount Airy, died Jan. 28, 2001, at his home. Mr. Money was born June 6, 1924, in Mount Airy to the late Henry Everett and Florence Stowe Money. He was a graduate of Mount Airy High School with salutatorian honors in the class of 1941, a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was a U.S. Air Force World War II veteran, discharged as a lieutenant. Mr. Money was retired from the Select Office Staff of Crucible Steel, Syracuse, N.Y., and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Airy, having joined in 1937. Mr. Money is survived by three brothers, Lovill S. Money of Fancy Gap, Va., Henry E. Money Jr. of Panama City, Fla., and Ret. Lt. Col. Virgil M. and wife Jeanne Money of Camarillo, Calif., two nieces and one nephew. Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by Rev. Jay Cecil Hill of First Baptist Church, Mount Airy, and Rev. Wendell Horton of Sky View Missionary Baptist Church, Hillsville, Va., with interment to follow 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at Good Hope Primitive Baptist Church cemetery, Fancy Gap, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Howell Funeral Home of Mount Airy.

OLIVER

Mrs. Barbara Jean Heath Oliver, 61, of 801 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Apt. 7E, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her residence. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem and was a member of the St. Peter's World Outreach ministry. She was formerly employed with Export Leaf Tobacco Co. and was a nurse's assistant. She is survived by three sons, Cecil T. (Ardeicha) Oliver Jr. of Clemmons, Aaron (Doris) Oliver and Jeremy Oliver, both of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Sherry (Manuel) Hoy and Cathy Oliver, both of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Joshua Oliver, Sheree Oliver and Cameron Oliver; one aunt, Jessie Mae Heath; other relatives and many friends. Funeral services will be held 1 p. m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the St. Peter's World Outreach Center with Dr. J.C. Hash Jr. officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. PINKHAM

Mr. Jesse Randolph Pinkham, 85, died Friday Feb. 2, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mr. Pinkham was born Oct. 30, 1915, in Washington, N.C., to James Richard and Margaret Alligood Pinkham. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington. Mr. Pinkham was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Olivia Strickland, and his second wife, Margaret Southerland Carter. He graduated with honors from N.C. State University with a degree in engineering. Mr. Pinkham was formerly employed with General Electric, General Motors, Union Carbide and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. After retirement Mr. Pinkham continued working as a consultant for R.J. Reynolds. In addition to his career as an engineer he had many patents on machines, including the Tobacco Harvester. Surviving are one son, Jimmy Randolph Pinkham and his wife Carol; two grandchildren, Tylila Nicole Pinkham and Beau James Pinkham all of Iowa City, Iowa; one brother-in-law, Richard Southerland and his wife Mary Jo; longtime and very dear friend Mary Ferguson; and he will be missed by longtime friends, Tull McArthur and Bob Bodenhamer and wife Audrey. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, in the mausoleum chapel at Forsyth Memorial Park with Chaplain Fred Moretz officiating. The family wishes memorials to be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

SAYLOR

Mrs. Sue Hall Saylor, 68, of 5133 Huntcliff Trail, Winston-Salem, died early Saturday morning Feb. 3, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born June 3, 1932, in Forsyth County to Ernest Swaim Hall and Gertie Kiser Hall. Mrs. Saylor was a member of Calvary Baptist Church for 35 years and had retired from the Veterans Administration in 1992. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marvin "Tink" Hall. Surviving are her husband James Carl Saylor of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Tom Harris of Savannah, Ga., and Carol and J.R. Gossett of Greensboro; one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Terry Saylor of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, Eric Harris and his wife Sayra, Drew and Luke Saylor and Matt and Mandy Gossett; one brother and sister-in-law, E.S. and Polly Hall of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Ruby Angell and Opal Faircloth, both of Winston-Salem; one sister-in-law, Bobbie Hall of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Calvary Baptist Church by Dr. Mark Corts, Dr. Gary Chapman and Dr. J.R. Gossett. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C, S. SCOTT

Mrs. Nancy Hoots Scott, 58, of Clemmons died Saturday, Feb 3., 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Dec. 21, 1942, in Forsyth County to Lawrence M. and Hilda Marley Hoots. Mrs. Scott was a member of Center Grove Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, William (Bill) Scott, of the home; one son, William Scott Jr. and wife Dawn of Clemmons; two granddaughters, Brittany Scott and Cassie Scott; one brother, Melvin Hoots of Charlotte; one sister, Diane Linville of Fayetteville; and her mother of Clemmons. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons with the Rev. Richard Hicks and the Rev. Joe Woodward officiating. JONESVILLE - Mr. Henry Ford Styers, 79, of Jonesville died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born April 29, 1921, in Davie County to the late Fred S. and Viola Hauser Styers. Mr. Styers was retired from Watkins Motor Lines in Memphis, Tenn. Surviving are his wife Madeline Cornatzer Styers of the home; three brothers-in-law, McKinley Cornatzer, deceased Jan. 3, 2001, Roy Lee Cornatzer and Jerry Wayne Cornatzer; and one sister-in-law, Minnie Rea Hutchins. His graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, at the Veteran's National cemetery in Salisbury by the Rev. Jeff Priest with full military honors. Flower donations may be made to the donor's choice. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the family.

EDWARDS

MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Barry Scott Edwards, 33, of 190 McBride Road passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Edwards was born in Surry County Feb. 8, 1968, the son of Georgia Eaton Edwards and the late Roscoe “Bud” Emmett Edwards. He was employed at Cross Creek Apparel Co. Surviving are his mother, Georgia Eaton Edwards of Mount Airy; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Douglas Handy of Stuart, Va., Susan and Jerry Shelton of Ararat and Anita and Eric Linville of Walkertown; a brother and sister-in-law, Anthony Gray and Melanie Edwards of Rural Hall; five nieces and nephews, Shawna Handy, Rebecca Handy, Jill Handy, Chad Edwards, Patrick Linville and Erica Linville; and a special cousin, Lane Edwards of Mount Airy. In addition to his father, Mr. Edwards was preceded in death by his grandparents, Will and Viola Mathis Edwards and Roy and Vera Bowman Eaton. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 15, 2001, at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy conducted by Elder Alan Terry, Elder Hale Terry and Elder Paul Hopkins. Burial will follow in the Mountain View Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Ruby Bennett Fields, 84, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Her husband, Arch S. Fields, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, Ronald W. Fields, and his wife Joann M. Fields of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Steve Fields of Winston-Salem, Elaine Fields of Jackson, Ala., Susan Davis and Gregg Blevins of Winston-Salem; six great-grandchildren, Eliz­abeth Fields of Winston-Salem, Stephanie Fields and T.J. Fields of Aviana, Italy, Clyde Dorn of Jackson, Ala., and Victoria and Zachary Blevins of Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends at Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville, Va., from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at McCall’s Gap Presbyterian Church in Glade Spring, Va. Burial will be at Mount Rose cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

HIATT

MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Roy Gilbert Hiatt, 69, of 145 Windward Drive, the husband of Norma Ricker Hiatt, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Surry Community Nursing Center. Mr. Hiatt was born March 4, 1931, in Carroll County, Va., to the late Joe Wheeler and Hattie Edwards Hiatt. He was the former owner and operator of Virginia-Carolina Paving Contractors and co-owner of Roy G. Hiatt and Son Equipment Co. Mr. Hiatt was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean conflict, and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife, Norma Ricker Hiatt of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca and David Montgomery of Mount Airy, and Cynthia Gail Hiatt of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher G. (Chris) and Kim Hiatt of Mount Airy; three grandchildren, Jessica Hiatt, Campbell Montgomery, and Claire Montgomery, all of Mount Airy; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Bertie and Howard Hicks and Annabelle and Ed Marion, all of Mount Airy; and a brother and sister-in-law, David and Mozelle Hiatt of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hiatt was preceded in death by a brother, Coy Chester “Bill” Hiatt. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Lowell Willis and Dr. Jon Cawley. Burial will be in the Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

HOLLAND

Mrs. Elva Darnell Holland, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Vienna Village. She was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Stokes County to Joseph Raleigh Darnell and Annie Ferguson Darnell. Mrs. Holland was retired from Matthew’s Chapel Church of Christ. Preceding her in death were her husband, James Claude Holland, in 1979; five brothers; and three sisters. Surviving are her son, James B. “Jim” Holland of Pfafftown; two grand­daughters, Jan Hunt of Pfafftown and Donna Knowlton of Pace, Fla.; five great-grandchildren, Korie Ragan, Jeremy Vestal, Justin Vestal, Kristan Knowlton and Ryan Knowlton; and a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Caudill. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, conducted by Ron Exline, minister. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. before the service. Memorials may be made to either Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, or to Matthew’s Chapel of Christ, 284 Oak Summit Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
