FERGUSON

MORAVIAN FALLS - Mrs. Martha Pauline Reid Ferguson, 77, the wife of Harry Dean Ferguson Sr. of Shamrock Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, with Dr. N. Nelson Granada Jr. and Mayor Conley Call officiating. Burial will be in Scenic Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Ferguson was born in Wilkes County, June 7, 1923, to Parks and Cora Ella Myers Reid. She was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Harry Dean Ferguson Jr. of the home, Dwight (David and Dianne Call) Ferguson of Winston-Salem and Michael Reid Ferguson of North Wilkesboro; and a brother, John Reid of Landis. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 Thursday night. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. GRIFFIN

YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Ann Walton Griffin, 80, of Deer View Lane passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born July 27, 1920, in Wake County to the late Russell and Mattie Smithers Walton. Mrs. Griffin was retired from Sears, Roebuck and Co., was a volunteer for Hospice and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Broughton High School and attended Peace College and Hardbarger Business College. Surviving are her husband of 57 years, C.A. Griffin, of the home; a son, C.A. (Judy Haire) Griffin II of Apex; a daughter, Martha Ann (C.B.) Parks, Greenville; grandchildren Alan Parks of Raleigh, Julie Parks of Washington, D.C., Lauren Griffin Barmann and Lesley Griffin, both of Apex; three great-grandchildren, Andrew Parks, Jacob Parks and Nathaniel Barmann; a sister, Martha Walton Grant of Raleigh; and a brother, Dr. Russell Walton of Raleigh. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Walton and Billy Walton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Flat Rock Baptist Church Fellowship Hall. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Cannon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215. HAMILTON

Anthony L. Hamilton, 54, of Winston-Salem died Feb. 13, 2001. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Gayle Hamilton, and a daughter, Denise Nicole Hall and husband Forrest of Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4780 Westchester Road. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 5980 Kinney Road. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

HARRIS

HAMPTONVILLE - Our beloved mother and grandmother Hazel Ruth Long Harris passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at the age of 90 at the home of her daughter Judy H. Simmons in Hamptonville. Hazel was born April 30, 1910, in Yadkin County to William Ransom and Docia Day Long. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ora Edison Harris in 1989; two sons, Charles Norman Harris and Spencer Gray Harris; three brothers, Charlie Long, Risdon Long and William Reid "Bill" Long; a granddaughter, Jacqueline Carter; and twin grandsons, Ronald and Donald Harris. Survivors include a sister, Annie Long Key of Yadkinville; five daughters, Geraldine H. Sasser and Carolyn H. Carter (Daniel) O'Conner of Hamptonville, Alice H. (Rex) Judd of Yadkinville, Doris H. (Leamon) Carter of Elkin and Judy H. (John) Simmons of Hamptonville; two sons, James D. (Ann) Harris of Yadkinville and William Earl (Dot) Harris of Winston-Salem; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday Feb. 15, at Mountain View Baptist Church in Hamptonville, conducted by Pastor Tim Tucker and the Rev. David Cox. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30p.m Wednesday Feb. 14, at Gentry Family Funeral Service 4517 Little Mountain Road in Jonesville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Surry and Yadkin County or to Mountain View Baptist Church in Hamptonville.

JOHNSON

Mr. Jack Kent Johnson, retired psychotherapist, 76, died after a period of illness Feb. 9, 2001. He resided in Sugar Hill, Ga., since 1995. A native of Winston-Salem, he graduated from Mineral Springs High School, and subsequently graduated from Wake Forest University in 1950. He received a master's degree in psychotherapy in 1953 from Tulane University, New Orleans, La. He was a former member and psychotherapist at Bowman Gray School of Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem. In 1958, he and his family relocated to Jacksonville, Fla., where he initiated the establishment of Duval County Mental Health Clinic, subsequently serving as the assistant director for 15 years. He later went into private practice as a psychotherapist. He was also a consultant and employee-assistance program director for Anheuser-Busch Cos. and Baptist Medical Center in Jacksonville for many years prior to disability retirement in early 1994. Mr. Johnson served in the military service for 34 months from 1943 to 1945, following which he returned to Winston-Salem and was married to Marjorie Carolyn Ziglar in January 1946. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Marjorie McAleer; granddaughter and her husband, Kelly and Allen Smith; a great-granddaughter, Morgan Taylor Smith, all of Sugar Hill, Ga.; and a grandson and his wife, Michael and Peggy McAleer of Durham, N.H. He was predeceased by two sons, Johnny and Dean Johnson. Jack was a son of William Fred and Blannie Gordon Johnson of Winston-Salem, both deceased. His two brothers, Connette and Harold Johnson, reside in Winston-Salem. His father-in-law, Ralph W. Ziglar (age 101), resides in Jacksonville, Fla. He has many other family members in and near Winston-Salem and Jacksonville, as well as many loving friends, colleagues and grateful patients. Mr. Johnson and his family were former members of the South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church, where for many years he was a Bible teacher in the adolescents department, as well as an active member of the church and choir. He was formerly a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, where he and his wife were married in 1946. Funeral services will be held in Winston-Salem at Vogler Funeral Home, Reynolda Road, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, with Dr. Cecil Cave officiating. The interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Vogler Funeral Home, 2951 Reynolda Road, Winston-Salem, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in memory of Jack Kent Johnson to Mineral Springs Baptist Church, 3733 Ogburn Ave., Winston-Salem, or to the Bowman Gray School of Medicine, Winston-Salem.

JORDAN

TOBACCOVILLE - Mrs. Helen George Jordan, 76, of 4190 Reid Road died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001. She was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Forsyth County to John W. and Dovie L. Jordan. She was married to Robert Gray Jordan on May 24, 1941. Mr. Jordan preceded her in death in 1985. Also preceding her was a grandson, Larry Todd Cook in January 2000. Mrs. Jordan worked for Hanes Hosiery and helped raise tobacco for many years. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Surviving are two sons, Richard Gray Jordan of Tobaccoville and Randal Walter Jordan of Germanton and three daughters, Linda Bentley of Clemmons, JoAnn Cook of Germanton and Kathy Jordan of Tobaccoville. She had nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are her brother, Carlos George and two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Wall and Mrs. Ruby Johnson, all of Thomasville. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dwayne Johnson and the Rev. Charles C. Vogler. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

KERRIGAN

WALNUT COVE - Ms. Donna Craig Kerrigan, 58, passed away Monday, Feb. 12, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born in Forsyth County on Nov. 29, 1942. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Burroughs Funeral Home, with Elder J.D. Belton officiating. She is survived by her parents, Mildred and J.W. Craig of Walnut Cove; her son, Craig Michael Kerrigan and his fiancee, Kelly Sullivan; her son, Ryan Nelson Kerrigan and his fiancee, Katie Kelly; and her sister, Milly Craig Kitchene and her husband, Tim Kitchene. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pine Ridge Primitive Baptist Church cemetery Fund, c/o Robert Tuttle, 2928 Piney Mountain Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052.

MAYFIELD

Mrs. Ruth Herron Mayfield, 86, of 1533 N.E. 24th St. passed away Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at the Forsyth Medical Center. She was a native of Belmont and had lived in Winston-Salem for the majority of her life and attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools. She was a member of the Pleasant Union Primitive Baptist Church and was a retired employee of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools. She was preceded in death by a sister, Iva Lucille Herron, on Feb. 6, 2001. She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline M. Crumblin of the home; a son, John Henry Mayfield of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Tia Mayfield and John Ali Mayfield, both of Winston-Salem; three sisters-in-law, Malamie (Romaine) Harrison, Alma Williams, both of Flushing, N.Y., and Katie Herron of Sumter, S.C.; a devoted caretaker, Orlander Smith; a host of nieces, nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, from the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home, with the Rev. L.S. Werts officiating. Interment will be in the family plot of the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Russell Funeral Home. (Russell)

WALNUT COVE - Mr. Jason Lee Miller, 21, died Monday in Walnut Cove. Mr. Miller was born Feb. 5, 1980, In Dade County, Fla., to William John Miller and Cathy Kern Southern. He was a brick mason and a member of Grantville Baptist Church in Grantville, Ga. He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Carl Ray Southern; maternal grandfather, Loyd E. Kern; and paternal grand-parents, Mary A. Miller and Louis A. Kareer. Survivors include his father and stepmother, William John and Mellissa Miller of Miami, Fla.; mother Cathy Southern of Walnut Cove; fiancee Joni A. Southern of Walnut Cove; daughter Autumn Brooke Miller of Walnut Cove; sister Danielle Southern of Walnut Cove; brothers Dilly Miller, Lewis Miller and Joel Fowler, all of Grantville, Ga.; stepbrother Michael Devegas; half brother John Miller; half sister Barbara Miller, all of Miami, Fla.; maternal grandmother Geneva L. Kern of Grantville, Ga. Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Wed-nesday at Burroughs Funeral Home in Walnut Cove, with the Rev. Oliver Helsabeck officiating. The family will receive friends after the service until 9 p.m.

MONEY

Mr. Harvey Morris Money Sr., 78, of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Dec. 21, 1922, in Elkin to the late George D. and Lovey Jordan Money. Mr. Money served in the U.S. Army during World War ll. He retired from Hanes Hosiery with 39 years service. Mr. Money was a member of Advent Moravian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosa Mae Granger Money. He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Money of Martinez, Calif., and Phyllis Mabe of Lexington; a son, Harvey Morris Money Jr. of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, John and Matthew Money; three brothers, Dewey Money of East Bend, Earl Money of Patrick, S.C., and Eldon Money of Hanging Rock. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at Advent Moravian Church Graveyard, by the Rev. Tripp May. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

REYNOLDS

SPARTA - Reese Reynolds, 77, of Sunbridge Nursing Home, Sparta, formerly of Mount Airy, the wife of Russell Jones Reynolds, died Feb. 12, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001, at Howell Funeral Chapel in Mount Airy.

ROWE

Jason Franklin Rowe, 81, of Midway died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Lexington. He was born Feb. 17, 1919, in Davidson County to Roy Mervin and Ellen Walton Rowe. Mr. Rowe retired from Piedmont Aviation, where he was an A&E Mechanic and shop foreman. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Edith Leonard Rowe, and brothers Roy Benford and Lee Clifton Rowe. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, David Franklin Sr. and Martha Wilson Rowe of Clemmons and Roy Leonard and Linda Pate Rowe of Winston-Salem; daughter Mary Frances Rowe of Midway and daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Rowe and E. LaVern Mecham of Mocksville; grandchildren, David F. Rowe Jr. and Charles Jason Rowe of Advance, Mickey Walton Rowe of Elk Creek, Va., R. Len Rowe of Cramerton, Stacy Rowe Verner of New Bern, Matthew G. Mecham of Clemmons, J. Wesley Mecham of Thomasville and Bradley L. Mecham of Chapel Hill; nine great grandchildren; sisters Kathleen (Mrs. Foy) Justice of Georgia, Mae (Mrs. Coley) Myers and Naomi (Mrs. Lacy) Medlin of Lexington; and sisters-in-law Bernice (Mrs. Clifton) Rowe of Winston-Salem and Mildred (Mrs. R.B.) Rowe of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday in the fellowship hall of Linwood United Methodist Church, Linwood, followed by a graveside service in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Linwood United Methodist Church, 4700 Old Linwood Road, Linwood, NC 27299 or Hopewell Moravian Church, 715 Hopewell Church Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127. SPAINHOUR

Mrs. Katharyn Foltz Spainhour, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Spainhour was born Sept. 12, 1920, to Robert Franklin Foltz Sr. and Sarah Sink Foltz. She was of the Moravian faith and was retired from Piedmont Airlines as an employee benefits representative. Mrs. Spainhour was preceded in death by her husband, Donald C. Spainhour. Survivors are daughter Sarah H. Thompson and son-in-law O.L. "Bud" Thompson III, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Gary W. Adams Jr., Vance B. Adams and Sandra L. Adams; two great-grandchildren, Kate C. Adams and Jacob C. Adams; and a number of nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Moravian Graveyard with the Rev. Keith White officiating. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

SPANGLER

Anne Wheatley Spangler, 54, of King and formerly of Independence, Va., passed away Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. She was born July 9, 1946, to John and Jama Lee Kirk Wheatley. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kris and Scarlett Andrews of King and John Spangler of the home; her mother, Jama Lee Wheatley of Independence, Va.; a sister and a brother-in-law, Sandy and Dennis Lundy of Galax, Va.; an aunt, Estelene Kirk of Independence, Va. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Independence, Va. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Pleasant Grove cemetery in Independence, Va., with Bobby Jennings and Louis McCoy officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family sincerely requests no flowers; con-tributions may be made to the family for funeral and burial expenses. Mrs. Ruby Jewel Ellis Sprinkle, 64, of 1451 Woodside Drive in Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at her residence. She was born Aug. 18, 1936, to the late Collett Ellis and Lucinda Ellis. She graduated from Davie County Training School (Central Davie) in 1954. She went to vocational training at Russell Commercial School. Mrs. Sprinkle was a retired employee of Western Electric (AT&T) and a member of Mount Sinai AME Zion Church in Advance, where she was a member of the Life Members Council, Missionary Society and the Sunday school department. She was also the church secretary. She was affiliated with the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Dollars, Sense and Growth Investment Club. She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Mr. Christopher Preston (Donna); brothers Mr. Collett Ellis Jr. (Tressie) and Mr. William Ellis (Celeste); two grandsons; a granddaughter; nieces; nephews; two aunts, Mrs. Clara Douglas and Mrs. Fannie Ellis; other relatives; and two special friends, Mrs. Esther Miller and Mrs. Gloria Stinson. Homegoing services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Mount Sinai AME Zion Church in Advance, with Dr. Otis Robinson officiating. Family visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will be at Center Grove AME Zion Church cemetery in Tobaccoville. Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of services and arrangements.

WOOSLEY

Mr. Jerry Scott Woosley, 30, of Shady Oak Trail, Clemmons, died Feb. 12, 2001, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. He was born in Forsyth County on Dec. 7, 1970, to Jerry and Margaret Mabe Woosley. Mr. Woosley was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church and was also an avid sportsman. Surviving are his parents; a brother, Victor of the home; two daughters; maternal grand-mother, Rosie Mabe of Reidsville; five uncles, Larry Woosley, Sam Sherrill, Keith Mabe, Allen Lewis and Jim Patterson; five aunts, Pat Lewis, Bertha Austin, Betty Patterson, Patricia Sherrill and Pam Mabe; and several cousins, great aunts and great uncles. A funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Harold Fletcher officiating. Burial will be at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

YOUNG

Mrs. Louise Smith Young, affectionately known as "Mrs. Alva," died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smith on July 24, 1924, in Salisbury. Mrs. Young was the youngest of 12 children, all of whom have preceded her in death. Mrs. Young was a past member of the Eastern Star. She is survived by two sons, Lou Engel of Winston-Salem and Ben Engel of upstate New York; three grandchildren, Louis of Charlotte, Zack of New York and Jessica Engel of Pfafftown; and a goddaughter, Lenora Tarrant of Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 600 College St., Oxford, NC 27565.
