ROMINGER

Mrs. Elsie James Rominger, 81, of Clemmons, widow of Thurman Leo Rominger, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Davidson County March 27, 1919, to Emory and Sallie Weaver James. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Gail Phelps and husband George W. of Clemmons, Jacqueline Beauchamp and husband Lester H. of Advance and Phyllis R. Forrest and husband Steven F. of Mocksville; two sons, Clifford F. Rominger and wife Rachel W. of Advance and Thurmond E. Rominger of Kernersville; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel J. Dunn of Clemmons; and one brother, Odell James of Lexington. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Voglers Clemmons Chapel. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Voglers. WAGNER

SANDY RIDGE - Mr. William Stanley Wagner, 54, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at J.R. Jones Medical Center, King. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at Burroughs Funeral Home with burial following in the Gardens of Memory, Walkertown. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the funeral home and other times at the home in Sandy Ridge. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016.

AMBURN

Mrs. Geneva Moore Amburn, 72, of King passed away Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Amburn was born June 30, 1928, in Surry County to Lula Flinchum Moore and the late George Stanley Moore she was last employed as a cashier with Harris Teeter and was a member of Popular Springs Church of Christ in King. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law Brenda and James Richardson of King, Vicki and Mike Gordon of Pinnacle and Pamela Lynn and Phil Hall of King; five grandchildren, Wendy Gordon Blevins of Dobson, Heather Gordon of Claudville, Va., Adam Hall, Jordan Hall and Ethan Hall all of King; three great-grandchildren, Sara Gordon, Ashley Blevins and Mollie Gordon all of Pinnacle; her mother, Lula Flinchum Moore of Lowgap; three sisters and brothers-in-law Jeanette and Owen Barber of Mount Airy, Peggy Southern of King and Kathleen and Buddy Shackleford of Mount Airy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Nancy Moore, Joe and Judy Moore and Michael Moore all of Lowgap; a sister-in-law, Peggy Moore of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her father, Mrs. Amburn was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Moore. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday Feb. 9, 2001, at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with services conducted by the Rev. Ralph Sproles and the Rev. Don Wallace. Burial will follow in the Beulah Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Pamela Lynn Hall, 120 Hobe Kiser Road King, NC. BATES

LEXINGTON - Esther Mae Everhart Bates, 85, formerly of Hoover Road, died Tuesday at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, Archdale. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8, at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Larry Jent. Burial will be in the Center United Methodist Church cemetery. Mrs. Bates was born in Davidson County on June 27, 1915, to Numa Clarence and Minnie Livengood Everhart. She was a homemaker and a member of Center United Methodist Church. Her husband, Chester A. Bates, preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughters, Joann Campbell of Durham and Arline Shutt and Faynatta Garrett of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Sharon Schrantz, Stephen Campbell and Fred "Pete" Shutt; great-grandchildren Cory, Blake, MacKenzie and Robert; a brother, Paul W. Everhart of Midway; and sisters Edna Hege of Lexington and Geneva Clodfelter of Thomasville. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel. Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

BOWMAN

Mr. Jessie Thornton Bowman, 71, of Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Dec. 13, 1929, in Carroll County, Va., to Swanson and Nannie Boyd Bowman. Mr. Bowman was a member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon for the past 30 years. He was part owner of Thruway Barber Shop and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Relve and Wayne Bowman. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Mrs. Jocie E. Bowman of the home; two sons, Gregory Van Bowman of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Chris Anthony Bowman and wife Rhonda of Apex; a grandson, Casey Bowman of Apex; his mother, Mrs. Nannie Bowman Galyean of Hillsville, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Vicie B. Smith of Hillsville, Mrs. Icey B. Turner of Galax, Va., Mrs. Ivy B. Martin of Rural Retreat, Va., Mrs. Bonnie Bowman of Hillsville and Mrs. Barbara B. Hawks of Mount Airy; four brothers, Rush Bowman, Bernard B. Bowman and Ivan B. Bowman, all of Hillsville, and Ray Bowman of Dobson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with the Rev. Terry Coats and the Rev. Sammy Shoaf officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

BRADLEY

Mr. Troy Bradley Jr. (AKA Bunk) passed at Forsyth Medical Center Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2001. He was a retired employee of RJR Tobacco Co. Factory #12. He was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. Mr. Bradley served on the board of deacons and was also an ordained deacon by the Rev. W.E. Samuels at Mars Hill Baptist Church. He was one of the founders of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church where he served as chairman of the deacon board for 16 years. He also served as Sunday school teacher, director of the Baptist Train Union at Mars Hill Baptist Church. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 45 1/2 years, Mrs. Queen Bradley of the home; two daughters, Yvonne (Robert) Bradley Glenn of Winston-Salem and Anna Bradley (Bonnie) Hauser; a son, Bobby L. (Evette) Bradley; mother, Anna Johnson of Philadelphia, Pa.; three sisters, Fannie Brigham, Gwendolyn Lash and Lula (Dennis) Scott of Philadelphia, Pa.; two grandchildren, Christchon Bradley to whom he raised and Robert Jamal Glenn, both of Winston-Salem; two great-granddaughters, Michelle House of Winston-Salem and Kristin Bradley of Yonkers, N.Y.; a devoted god daughter, Jacqueline Cooper of Winston-Salem; three god children, Javon Cooper, Lavon Cooper and Ronald Couthen Jr.; a sister-in-law, Joeretha Love of Greensboro; devoted friends, Oscar and Mildred McCall of Winston-Salem and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services for Mr. Bradley will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Joseph Parks will be officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilmore Funeral Home.

CONRAD

Mrs. Margaret Maryann Miller Conrad, 94, of 7134 Conrad Farm Road, Pfafftown, died Tuesday, Feb. 6. 2001, at Meadowbrook Manor in Clemmons. Mrs. Conrad grew up in the Pino community in Davie County. Born Nov. 24, 1906, she was the daughter of the late Lonnie L. Miller and Bessie Davis Miller. She was a graduate of Edwards Business College and was married to R. Maxwell Conrad for 60 years. Margaret and her husband, Max, cared for 24 foster children. They were recognized and received an award for 20-plus years of loving service by Foster Care. Margaret enjoyed music, piano, guitar and accordion, loved flowers and spent many hours painting. Her pictures are treasured items. Margaret is survived by her husband, Max of the home; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Shore of Yadkinville; a brother, L. Gene Miller and his wife, Marie of Pino and a number of nieces and nephews. Also surviving are foster children, Doug Poter of Anchorage, Alaska, Marie Mathis of Meadows of Dan, Va., and Joe Gunning of Pasadena, Calif. She was preceded in death by Judy Poter Kittenstock, whose husband, Ed survives. Judy and Ed have cared for her during her 10-year illness. Funeral services will be held at Lewisville United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Friday with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the cemetery or building fund of Lewisville United Methodist Church, 6290 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, NC 27023.

COPPEDGE

Mrs. Lucy Talton Coppedge, 95, of Winston-Salem died Feb. 5, at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. Mrs. Coppedge was born Feb. 24, 1905, to Rufus and Carrie Talton of Johnston County. She attended the Durham Conservatory of Music in Durham and Hardbarger's Business School in Raleigh. Mrs. Coppedge took great pride in having made the first Duke Blue Devils' mascot costume and remained an avid Duke fan until her death. She managed the first gift department of Bocock-Stroud before she and Mr. Coppedge Sr. opened Kopp's Camera Shop also in Bocock-Stroud. Mr. and Mrs. Coppedge helped begin Piedmont Photo Finishers Inc. in the late 1940s and shortly thereafter, started Coppedge Photography Inc. Mrs. Coppedge steadfastly remained with the studio until it closed in 1993. She was 88 years of age at the time of her retirement. She was a member of the Altrusa Club. Preceding Mrs. Coppedge in death were her parents; her husband, Thomas D. Coppedge Sr., a prominent local portrait photographer; and seven bro-thers and sisters. Surviving are her beloved son, Thomas D. Coppedge Jr. and wife Sarah of Winston-Salem; four grand-children, Cindy Coppedge Williams and husband Roy of Hendersonville, Amy Coppedge Dixon and husband Erik of Raleigh, Thomas D. Coppedge III and wife Jeanette of Raleigh and Debbie Coppedge Bremer and husband Ron of Rocky Mount; six great-grandchildren, Lesli and Hannah Williams, Jenny and Drew Bremer and Kaitlyn and Justin Dixon; a dear sister, Evelyn Talton Haigler: a devoted brother, Charles E. Talton and wife Beverly of Winston-Salem; cherished nieces and nephews; and longtime neighbors and friends, especially her loving caregiver, Peggy C. Isom. Mrs. Coppedge was a longtime member of Ardmore United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 8 at 2 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home on Silas Creek Parkway, with Dr. William Medlin officiating. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Hayworth-Miller. Memorials may be made to the Brenner Children's Hospital at Wake Forest Medical Center or Hospice of Winston-Salem.

DOUGLAS

YADKINVILLE - Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Mr. James Anderson Douglas, 80, of U.S. Highway 601 S., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Hoots Memorial Hospital. He was born March 3, 1920, in Yadkin County to the late Will and Ethel Jane Gough Douglas. Mr. Douglas was a retired farmer and garage owner. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Katie Cranfill Douglas of the home; his children, Frances (Bobby) Shore, Jane (Brian) Willard, Roy (Nell) Douglas and Tim (Pam) Douglas, all of Yadkinville; grandchildren Felicia (Darrell) Leonard, Scott (Jennifer) Shore, Keith Willard, Steve Langley, Varney Trent (April) Shore, Jody Willard, Amanda Douglas and Matthew Douglas; and great-grand-children, Deanna Shore, Dakota Shore, Dylan Leonard and Lauren Shore. Mr. Douglas was preceded in death by his grandparents who raised him, James and Mary Jane Gough. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Courtney Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Bill Hale and Joe McCollum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Hoots Memorial Hospital for their excellent care and the Council on Aging for their help. HARRIS

HARMONY - Mr. Vander Lewis Harris, 85, of 324 Piney Grove Road died Wednesday at Mapleleaf HealthCare Center in Statesville. Born in Wilkes County Oct. 29, 1915, he was a son of the late John Harris and Vina Henderson Harris. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Bradie Myers Harris July 3, 1999. Survivors include four sons, Robert Harris and his wife, Clare of Mocksville, John Harris and his wife, Diane of Harmony, James L. Harris and his wife, Nancy of Statesville and David Harris and his wife, Catherine of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Mrs. Doris Ann Eudy and her husband, Terry of Mooresville, Mrs. Jean Sprinkle and her husband, Jerry of Thomasville and Mrs. Aileen Tulbert and her husband, Thomas of Hamptonville. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Eva Anderson of Statesville, Mrs. Grace Johnson of Greensboro and Mrs. Ann Sheets and her husband, Ted of Lewisville; 17 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Rev. Hoover Marlowe officiating. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes before the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will assemble at the residence of the deceased and will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday evening at Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony. Mrs. Rosa Teal Jiles departed this life Feb. 3, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center after a brief illness; the Lord called her home to an eternal rest. She was the daughter of the late Nannie Teal Lash, the wife of the late Johnny M. Jiles and mother of the late James Gary Teal and Jerry Jiles. She leaves to cherish her memories a granddaughter, Tanya Fleming; a grandson, Jerry Fleming; four great-grand-children, Dea Mann, Jeremy Fleming, Darron Fleming and Montera Fleming, all of Winston-Salem; four nephews, Harold (Georgia) Teal, Tyrone (Gloria) Teal of Winston-Salem, Kenneth (Carolyn) Williams of Silver Spring, Md., and Alexander (Thelethia) Williams of Alabama; a niece, Edwina Banner of Winston-Salem; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; a host of other relatives and friends; a devoted niece, Jacqueline Teal; and a devoted friend, (nurse) Kathy Terry. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Douthit's Visitation Center, 2920 Greenway Ave., where Dr. Harold B. Bennet will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service from 2:30 to 3 p.m. at Douthit's. Mrs. Arleen York Keever, formerly of Elkin, died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 7, 2001, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of First United Methodist Church in Elkin by the Rev. Sanford Giles. Burial will be in Hollywood cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 at the church. Mrs. Keever was born in Stony Point Sept. 22, 1908, to K.W. and Stella Beckham York. She was a former teacher, a member of First United Methodist Church in Elkin and was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Keever. Surviving are two nieces, Berdena Gibson of Statesville and Martha Boyle of Taylorsville and a nephew, Sammy Rufty of Stony Point. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that any memorials be made to Hospice of Iredell County, P.O. Box 822, Statesville, NC 28687. Kennedy Funeral Home in Elkin is in charge of arrangements.

LATHAM

MOCKSVILLE - Mrs. Judy Lynn English Latham, 49, of Latham Farm Road died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Howard and Mrs. Pat Agee officiating. Interment will be in the Eaton Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Mrs. Latham was born July 25, 1951, in Haywood County, Tenn., to Jewell R. Sr. and Pearl Smith English of Gates, Tenn., and had worked for National Health Labs of Winston-Salem as a medical technologist and was a homemaker. She attended Faith Covenant Church in Concord and was a devout Christian. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Jim Latham of the home; two daughters, Sherry (Max) Angell of Mocksville and Amanda (Brian) Jones of Greensboro; a grandson, Brandon Angell; a brother, Rickey (Joy) English of Brownsville, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

LIVENGOOD

LEXINGTON - Elmer Lester "Toots" Livengood, 71, of Britthaven of Davidson, Thomasville, formerly of Hasty School Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at 4 a.m. at Britthaven of Davidson after declining health of 10 years. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel by the Rev. Clyde Akers. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Livengood was born in Forsyth County on Dec. 13, 1929, to Wilson Livengood and Edna Livengood. He was retired from Binnings Inc. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Martin Livengood of the home; sons David Livengood of Lexington and Michael Livengood of Winston-Salem; daughters Brenda Thronton of Southmont, Sharon "Susie" Livengood of the home and Cathy Turner of Wallburg; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brothers Clyde Livengood of Winter Park, Fla. and Jim Livengood of Wallburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home, 6048 Hasty School Road.

MCCORKLE

Mr. Eugene Jones McCorkle, 77, of 1108 Louise Road passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was born April 10, 1923, in Winston-Salem to the late Mack and Jettie McCorkle. He was formerly employed at Hanes Dye and Finishing Co. and a veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mrs. Alberta Hayes. He is survived by his wife, Minnie B. McCorkle of the home; three sons, David (Detrice) Ingram, Haywood Reynolds of Winston-Salem and the Rev. Dr. Eugene (Linda) McCorkle of Rialto, Calif.; two daughters, Linda (Kenny) Rogers and Betty Guest of Winston-Salem; a devoted granddaughter, Sonya McCorkle; 26 grand-children; 26 great-grand-children; four brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home, with the Rev. Craig Ingram officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. (Russell)

MOORE

Mrs. Mary Lee Nelson LaFar Moore, 67, of 1253 Kent Place died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at her home. She was born Oct. 26, 1933, in Gaston County to Mary Lee Nelson LaFar and David Robertson LaFar Jr. She graduated from St. Mary's Junior College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. She lived in California, Charlottesville, Va., Greensboro, Gastonia, Winston-Salem and Roaring Gap. While in Winston-Salem, she was a member and president of the Twin City Garden Club, the Winston-Salem Debutante Committee and the Colonial Dames of Forsyth County. She volunteered in many civic and community capacities. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Moore was preceded in death by a child, James Nelson Moore, in 1973. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Owen Moore III and wife Constance Ladd Moore and their children, Thomas Owen Moore IV and George Bennett Moore and Robertson LaFar Moore and wife Elizabeth Archer Moore and their children, David Robertson LaFar Moore and Elizabeth Archer Moore; and by a daughter, Mary Lee Hanes Moore of Raleigh. A private graveside service was held in Salem cemetery followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church Building Fund, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101 or to Exploris Middle School, Bird and Butterfly Sculpture Garden, 207 E. Hargett St., Raleigh, NC 27601. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.
