MORRISON

Mr. Fletcher (Fred) G. Morrison, Sr., 72, of 1308 Peachtree St., and 906 Bernd St. in Pittsburgh, Pa. passed away Saturday morning, Feb. 3, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Moore County April 20, 1928. He was the son of the late Willis and Rosa May Morrison where he was raised in a Christian home. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. He was employed for many years with the Pittsburgh, Pa. Police Force until his retirement in 1987, and he was also a U.S. Army veteran. Surviving are his wife, Opra Morrison of Pittsburgh, Pa.; his two sons, Fred G. Morrison, Jr. of Winston-Salem and Michael Morrison of Philadelphia. (Davette) who now resides in Winston-Salem; a daughter, Lisa Morrison of Pittsburgh, Pa. and her children, Dante' J. Williams, Devon J. Sanders and Aysha L. Morrison; 10 step-children; 32 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillie Brooks, Blanche (James) Anderson and Annie Palmer, all of Winston-Salem and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and a devoted friend, Mr. Robert Edward of Pittsburgh, Pa. The family will leave from the home of Fred. G. Morrison, 1308 Peachtree St. en route to the funeral. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Frances S & Jerry C. Gilmore Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. The family wishes to thank you for everything in a time like this. God Bless You. MOSBY

Mrs. Gaynelle Bessie McKnight Mosby, of 4989 Dock Davis Road, Clemmons departed this life Monday, morning, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Forsyth Medical Center after a period of illness. The daughter of the late Dr. Jesse and Alberta McKnight, she was born June 20, 1927. Gaynelle was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools graduating from Atkins High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Winston-Salem Teachers College (Winston-Salem State Univers-ity) and her master's degree from Indiana University. Mrs. Mosby retired as a schoolteacher from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools system, but continued her involvement in youth education long after her retirement. She was a devoted educator, pianist and member of Holy Family Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her spouse, Clarence Mosby Jr. and son, Clarence Mosby III. She is survived by two granddaughters, D'han and Aquilla Mosby; a grandson, Julian Mosby, all of Winston-Salem; her sister-in-law, Jeanne P. Mosby of Winston-Salem; a niece, Gayle M. Goodman of Hampton, Va.; her nephew, Charles (Bennell) Mosby Jr. Gaithersburg, Md.; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m.Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at the Holy Family Catholic Church, with the Rev. Frank O' Rourke, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:30pm at the church. The family appreciates the many kind acts from her neighbors and friends during her extended period of illness. The family may be contacted and the cortege will assemble and leave from the residence of her sister-in-law, 462 W. 25th St., at 12:30pm Saturday. (HOOPER)

PETREE

RURAL HALL - Mrs. Mary Cecil Shropshire Petree, 85, formerly of Broad St., died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001. Mrs. Petree was born in Forsyth County on Sept. 25, 1915, the daughter of the late Charlie Clayborn and Carrie Rutledge Shropshire. Mrs. Petree was married on Aug. 9, 1936, to Harry Graham Petree Jr., who preceded her in death on March 9, 1991. She was a member of Rural Hall Church of Christ, and was a talented pianist. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Adelaide P. Ashburn and husband Frank and Mrs. Deborah P. Tidwell-Guethle and husband Lee; and a son, Graham Petree, all of Rural Hall; four grandchildren, Jerry and Michael Tidwell of Valrico, Fla., Stan Ashburn of Dallas, Texas, and Clint Petree of King; and two great grandsons. Mrs. Petree was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Stephanie Ashburn in 1982. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall by Minister Ron Voss. Burial will be in Rural Hall Memorial Park. The Petree family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 Thursday evening at the funeral home and request that memorials be directed to Rural Hall Church of Christ, P.O. Box 146, Rural Hall, NC 27045.

ROGERS

Mrs. Patricia Jean Rogers, 63, died Feb. 6, 2001, at her home after a brief illness. Mrs. Rogers was born in Wheeling W. Va., to Ercell Ross and Barbara Volan Ross on March 8, 1937. Mrs. Rogers was of the Catholic faith. Surviving are her husband, John R. Rogers; a son, Jeff F Rogers and wife Connie of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Vicki L. Bauer and husband Jack of Winston-Salem; two brothers, John Ross of Steubenville, Ohio and Paul Ross and wife Carol of Tiltonsville, Ohio; seven grand-children; and a great-grandchild. Mrs. Rogers will be buried in Oakland cemetery in Mingo Junction, Ohio. A memorial Mass will be held at Hayworth-Miller Chapel, Silas Creek Parkway, at a later date.

SANDERS

Mr. Robert W. "Moon" Sanders of 1151 E. 11th St. Apt.-B passed away early Tuesday morning at his home. He was the husband of Channie Baldwin Sanders. He was loved and admired by all who knew him. He was a faithful member of Cannan Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and attended Sunday school. He was member of Potpourri Senior Citizens Club and enjoyed playing golf. He retired from R.J. Reynolds after 35 years of service. He leaves to cherish dear memories his wife of 17 years, Mrs. Channie Sanders; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Patricia Dobose; a devoted granddaughter, Shandra R. McCloud and Twanna Dubose; grandson Baron Dubose; a great-grandson; a devoted brother, Mr. Alfonza Lampkin, all of Winston-Salem; two sons, Sylvester Bitting (Ruby) and Ronald Sanders; two daughters, Robin Gilbert of High Point and Crystal Sanders of Winston-Salem; an aunt, Mrs. Ruth Green of Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren; five devoted friends, Mr. Al Martin, Mrs. Juanita McBride, Mrs. Geraldine Bitting, Ms. Alma Penn and Mrs. Eva Thompson, all of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Cannan Baptist Church, with Dr. W.E. Brannon officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Friday 30 minutes before the services. The procession will assemble and leave from the home, 1151 E. 11th St. Apt.-B en route to the church at 2:10 p.m. Friday. Johnson-Howard-Robin-son Home of Memory.

SHERMER

Mr. Gilson Gray Shermer, 80, of 2100 Nettlebrook Drive died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Oct. 27, 1920, the son of Talmadge DeWitt and Octavia Page Shermer. He was a retired yardmaster from Norfolk Southern Railway (formerly Norfolk and Western) after 37 years of service. He served in the Army Corps during World War II and was an instructor for the radio school and also the gunnery school. He was the radio operator on a B-24 bomber. On June 21, 1941, he was married to Eleanor Tesh. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Thomas Gray Shermer and wife Pat of Yorktown, Va., and Walter Talmadge Shermer of Sulphur, La.; and three daughters, Diane Williams and husband Don of Williamsport, Ind., Eleanor Jane Smith and husband Ken and Cathy Pauley and husband David, all of Winston-Salem. Also surviving are six grandsons; four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and three great-granddaughters. Mr. Shermer was a member of South Fork Church of Christ. A graveside will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, led by Claude Pharr and Charles Belch. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel.

SMITH

Mr. Owen Wallace Smith of 2801 Patterson Ave. departed this life Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at Silas Creek Manor. He was a retired employee of RJR Factory No. 43. He was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church where he was also the superintendent of Sunday school, a member of the senior choir and the male chorus. He leaves to cherish his devoted and loving wife of 58 years, Annie Payne Smith; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Kimble and Mildred B. Odom, both of Winston-Salem; a cousin, Geneva Harden of York, S.C., many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at noon Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, at First Calvary Baptist Church. The Rev. John Jackson will be officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to noon before the services. Interment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are entrusted to Gilmore's Funeral Home.

SWARINGEN

Mrs. Naomi Miller Swaringen of 4625 Pine Hall Road, Walkertown, passed away Monday, Feb. 5, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of illness. She was a native and lifelong resident of Forsyth County, was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she was a member of the senior choir and was a retired employee of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She is survived by her husband, George Swaringen of the home; a sister, Mary (Samuel) Green of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law, Arlene (Rollin) Brown and Willie Miller of Walkertown; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. I.L. Anthony officiating. Interment will be in the Nat Watkins cemetery, Walkertown. The family visitation will be from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Friday at the church. (Russell)

TRIPLETT

NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Maie Huffman Triplett, 75, the wife of Coy Arvil Triplett of Curtis Bridge Road died Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Reins-Sturdivant Chapel, with the Rev. Ivan Dameron and the Rev. Steve McLain officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Baptist Church cemetery. Mrs. Triplett was born in Wilkes County on April 3, 1925, to Rudy and Josie Nichols Huffman. She was a member of Union United Methodist Church. Mrs. Triplett was preceded in death by a son, Jackie Gene Triplett. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Susie Crowe of Millers Creek; two sons, Harold Dean Triplett of Purlear and Gary Steven "Chuck" Triplett of Millers Creek; a sister, Okyll Hamby of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 Thursday night. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, P.O. Box 609, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659, or to the Diabetics Foundation, c/o Mrs. Ruth Graham, 520 Winkler Mill Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

YARBROUGH

Ms. Geneva Yarbrough, 41, 3738 Avera Ave. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001. She was a native of Batesville, Miss., and had resided in Winston-Salem for more than 10 years. She was of the Baptist faith and was employed with Bank of America in Greensboro. She was a graduate of Tougaloo College in Meridian, Miss., and attended Wake Forest University. She leaves to cherish her memory her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Yarbrough Jr. of Marks, Miss.; six sisters, Patricia (Gerald Harris) Clark and Luevina Yarbrough of Winston-Salem, Dorothy John-son of Chicago, Dhronda Evans of Charlotte, Janet Robinson of Memphis, Tenn., and Gay Shree Turner of Marks, Miss.; two brothers, Ralph Johnson and Ricky Johnson of Arlington, Tenn.; her grandmother, Adelaide Clark of Battle Creek, Mich.; three nephews, Eric Clark, Gregory Clark and William Hill; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2001, in the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

BLANKENSHIP

GREENSBORO - Mr. Mark Sloan Blankenship, 41, of 23-B Park Village Lane died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at his residence. Funeral services for Mr. Blankenship will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Magnolia Street Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Lakeview Memorial Park. Mark was a native of Greensboro. He was a manufacturers representative for Richard K. Hunter Co. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Elks Lodge. Mark loved his family and friends. He graduated from Page High School and Alamance Community College with an HVAC degree. He is survived by his parents, Mack Blankenship Jr. and Joann Sloan Blankenship, of Greensboro; one brother, Mack Blankenship III and his wife, Lynn, of Kernersville; and one sister, Malinda Lynch and her husband, Kevin, of Randleman. He is also survived by one nephew, Carl Blankenship, and two nieces, Laura Blankenship and Katelyn Lynch. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Forbis & Dick North Elm Street Chapel and other times at the residence of his parents, 2003 Twain Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Magnolia Street Baptist Church, 1203 Magnolia Street, Greensboro, NC 27401.

CROCKETT

Ms. Rosa Lee Crockett, 85, formerly of 955-K Mount Zion Place, passed away Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Silas Creek Manor after a short period of illness. Ms. Crockett was born March 15, 1915, to the late Rosa and Charlie Crockett in Lancaster, S.C. She attended the local public schools of Lancaster and retired from Piedmont Leaf Tobacco Co. She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters, Bertha Crockett, Mary Lee Crockett and Ruth (Roosevelt) Clark, sister-in-law Sarah Crockett, devoted god-son William (Fronnie) Stewart, all of Winston-Salem, a host of nieces and nephews, loyal friends Minnie Mall and Loraine Robinson, other friends and caring neighbors. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the Chapel of the Russell Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph R. Samuels officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be 12:30-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Russell Funeral Home. The procession will leave from the home of sister Ruth Clark, 1435 Hill Lane. (Russell)

GENTRY

WEST JEFFERSON - Mrs. Geraldine McNeill Gentry, 78, died Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2001, at Watauga Medical Center after eight months of declining health. Born July 5, 1922, to Allen Jones and Nettie Brown McNeill, she is survived by her husband of 60 years, John G. Gentry, of West Jefferson; four daughters and sons-in-law, Mrs. Carl (Ann) Hendrix of Lake Tolaway, Mrs. Jerry (Sandra) McNeill of Piedmont, S.C., Mrs. Robert (Kathy) McNeill of Lake Murray, S.C., and Mrs. Mike (Karen) Sheets of Piedmont. Also surviving are five grandsons, Chris, Greg, Michael and Scott McNeill and Robbie Hendrix; five great-grandchildren, Brett, Ashley, Kaitlin, Kyle and Justin McNeill; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Welher and Mrs. Kay Price of West Jefferson. Mrs. Gentry was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Donald, Dempsie and Johnny McNeill. An active member of Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church, Geraldine was named Woman of the Year on Aug. 4, 1996, by the women of the church. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Kermit Dancy and the Rev. Ted Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow in the Ashelawn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mount Jefferson Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 782, West Jefferson, NC 28694, or to the New Bus Fund, Bethesda United Methodist Church, 516 Piedmont Road, Easly, SC 29642.

GOOD

MOCKSVILLE - Mr. James Francis Good, 71, of U.S. Hwy. 801N., passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Durham V.A. Medical Center in Durham. Mr. Good was born July 22, 1929, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Mack F. and Julia Dulong Good. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mr. Good was a veteran of the Korean conflict. He served in the United States Marine Corps from Oct. 4, 1950 to Oct. 3, 1953, and was awarded two Purple Hearts. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Mrs. Odessa Ivey Good, of the home; two sons, Mack F. Good and wife, Annette, of Lewisville and Mike J. Good of Mocksville; one daughter, Patricia G. Webster and husband, Web, of Yadkinville; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the V.A. National cemetery in Salisbury with Father Thomas Clements officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at Davie Funeral Service Chapel. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice. Davie Funeral Service LLC, 416 Valley Road, Mocksville, NC 27028 will be serving the Good family.

HARRISON

DOBSON - Mrs. Edna Mildred Lucas Harrison, 89, of 14 Surry Manor Lane, Dobson, widow of Garnie Harrison, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at her home. Mrs. Harrison was born in McDowell County, W.Va., on Jan. 8, 1912, daughter of the late Andrew Jackson and Minnie Bell Black Lucas. She was a professional mother. Survivors include one daughter, June Harrison White Hawks of Jonesville; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Allen and Linda Harrison of Dobson, Neal and Alice Harrison of Elkin and Lee Harrison of Novice, Texas; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and four very special granddaughters, Mildred McBride, Debbie Bowman, Mitzi White and Gayle Holt. In addition to her husband and parents Mrs. Harrison was preceded in death by one daughter, Hope Capps; two sons, Edwin "Bucky" Harrison and Douglas Harrison; one brother, Walter Lucas; and one special friend, Vanessa Johnson. There will not be a memorial service. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Center of Surry, P.O. Box 692, Dobson, NC 27017.

LAWSON

Mr. Johnny Earl Lawson, 58, of Rural Hall died Feb. 16, 2001. He was born in Stokes County on March 1, 1945, to the late Gurney and Alice Campbell Lawson. He is survived by his wife, Judy Moon Lawson; one daughter, Norma Gail Chapman; two sons, Johnny F. E. Lawson and Paul Lawson; four grandchildren, Joseph, Shayna, Cole and Gregory Lawson; four sisters, L.V. Merritt, Betty Hodges, Shelby Allen and Avis McBride; two brothers, Roy Lawson and Frank Lawson; and several nieces and nephews. The Lawson family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.
