LAWSONVILLE - Mrs. Opal Smith Stovall, 80, of 2294 Hwy. 704 E., Lawsonville, died at her home Sunday, March 4, 2001. She was born June 7, 1920, in Stokes County, daughter of the late Fred and Alpha Jessup Smith. She was a homemaker and member of Peters Creek Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Stovall. Survivors are four sons, Keith Stovall, O'Neil (Jean) Stovall and Orell (Gladys) Stovall, all of Lawsonville, and Charles (Dianne) Stovall of Madison; 10 grandchildren, Annette (Kelly) Joyce, Kim (Trey) McKinney, Melissa (Randy) Mabe, Ken (Toni) Stovall, Melanie Bullins, Stephanie (Sammy) Mabe, Manley (Tammy) Stovall, Amber Cobbler, Matthew Stovall and Michael Stovall; and nine great-grandchildren. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Peters Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Eugene Payne and the Rev. Randy Roberts. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Baptist Church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel and other times at Mrs. Stovall's home.

WADELINGTON

WALNUT COVE - Mr. Terry Lee Wadelington, 46, of 2094 Martin Luther King Jr. Road died March 2, 2001. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Rock Hill Baptist Church in Belews Creek where he was a member. Burial will be in the church cemetery. He was a native of Forsyth County, a deacon at Rock Hill Baptist Church and a member of Red Rock Masonic Lodge. He was employed as a mechanic at Roadway. He is survived by his wife Linell H. Wadelington, three daughters, LaSha Smith of Winston-Salem, Terrika Jones (Donnie) of Greensboro and Torri Wadelington of the home; five brothers, Julius Wadelington (Janette) and Everette Wadelington (Beverly), both of Stokesdale, Billy Wadelington (Evelyn) of Madison, the Rev. Arthur Wadelington (Charlotte) of Walnut Cove and Rev. Lennon Wadelington (Angie) of Greenville, S.C.; five sisters, Sheryl Williamson (Nelson) of Greensboro, Jackie Martin and Lucy Welch (Don), both of Walnut Cove and Shelia Polite (Chris) and Candi Polite (Delmar), both of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren; a devoted friend, Sandra Mason; mother-in-law Marjory Head; godparents Frank and Ollie Hairston of Walnut Cove; and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. Monday at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home, Madison, and other times at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Arthur Wadelington, 1600 Martin Luther King Jr. Road, Walnut Cove. WAINWRIGHT

Mr. Roy Matthew Wainwright, 91, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Perth Amboy, N.J., to Matthew Benjamin and Kristina Peterson Wainwright. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Harry Ludwig Wainwright. Mr. Wainwright started work with United Airlines in 1932 in Newark, N.J. After being transferred to Chicago for a number of years, Mr. Wainwright moved to Denver, Colo., where he raised his family. He continued his education in business at UCLA and Northwestern and retired from United Airlines as a senior executive in 1972 after 40 years of service. Mr. Wainwright and his wife moved from Chicago to Winston-Salem in 1973 to pursue his hobbies of gardening, golf and more travel. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Wainwright is survived by his wife, Virginia Davis Wainwright, his son Dr. Robert B. Wainwright and wife Enid of E. Dummeston, Vt., his daughter Carol Wainwright Huggin and husband Larry of Bellevue, Wash., four grand-children and one great-grandchild. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, conducted by Dr. Jeff White, with burial at the Forsyth Memorial Park. There will be no public visitation. In lieu of flowers his family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/For-syth County Inc., 1100-C South Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103-3217, or to First Presbyterian Church, 300 N. Cherry St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the Wainwright family.

WILEY

GREENSBORO - Mrs. Sarah Scott Wiley passed away Friday, March 2, 2001. A memorial service and Mass will be 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1414 Gorrell Street in Greensboro. Mrs. Wiley is survived by her husband Shelley R. Wiley Sr., son Shelley R. Wiley Jr., daughter Sarah B. Wiley; first cousin Marian M. Edmonds of Norfolk, Va., adopted daughter Joan G. White, 12 grandchildren and 9 great grands. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at her daughter's home, 1209 Guest Street (off Yanceyville Street) in Greensboro.

BLANKLEY

LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. - Mr. James H. Blankley, 71, formerly of Elkin and St. Petersburg, Fla. died March 6, 2001, at his home. He was born in Norfolk, Va. He moved here from Virginia in 1946 and had lived in St. Petersburg for 40 years. Mr. Blankley was a World War II U.S. Army and Air Force veteran serving in Vietnam and the Korean conflict. He was an employee of St. Petersburg Heating & Air Conditioning Co. Mr. Blankley was a member of Pinellas Park Elks Club #2217 (past exalted ruler), Too Far and the VFW of Lake Panasoffkee. Surviving are his wife of 311/2 years, Earlene Blankley; two sons, James Jr. of Hamptonville and Franklin of Largo, Fla.; three daughters, Gerri Lynn Blankley Collins and Dorothea Guyer of Elkin and Karen Lance of St. Petersburg; a sister, Lamora Phillips of Orange Park, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be Friday, March 9, 2001, at Royal Palm North Funeral Chapel and cemetery, St. Petersburg, Fla.

CAMPBELL

Mrs. Louise Richardson Campbell, the daughter of Sam and Mary Richardson, was born Aug. 4, 1906, in Darlington, S.C. She attended school in Darlington County but had resided in Winston-Salem for approximately 80 years. Mrs. Campbell was a faithful member of St. John Christian Methodist Episcopal Church where she was a faithful member of the senior choir, the Missionary Society, the Hospitality Club and the Senior Citizens Club. Louise was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Factory #8. After 34 years of service, she retired in 1957. She was a member of Sethos Court #105, Daughters of Isis. For seven years after her retirement, she was a volunteer deliverer for Meals on Wheels. Tuesday, March 6, 2001, marked the triumphant and of her earthly life. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; a sister, Minnie; and a son, Willie Otis Campbell. Surviving with memories to cherish are Mrs. Connie C. Thomas, daughter and caregiver and daughter Lillie (Billie) Jones of Winston-Salem; sons Benjamin (Jerri) Parks of Mountain View, Calif. and Earl Harrell of Washington, D.C.; eight grandchildren L'Anita (Rondie) Gore, Sharon Jones and Otis Murphy Jr., Benjamin R. Parks Jr., Ralph and Ronda Parks, Angela Simpson and Geri Ann Aquiller; three great-grandchildren, Jourdan Gore, Billy D. Jones and Mason Gore; nieces; nephews; cousins; and church family and friends including a devoted friend, Mrs. Teretha Milner. Special thanks to Shepherd Center, Total Care, Senior Services and Hospice. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John CME Church. Family visitation hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday with Ritualistic services by Sethos Court, daughter of Isis, at St. John CME Church. (Forsyth)

DODD

Mr. Lloyd Howard Dodd Sr., of 613 Burton St. passed away Sunday, March 4, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a period of illness. He was a native of Surry County and a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life, and was formerly employed by the sanitation department of Winston-Salem. He is survived by three daughters, Linda and Brenda Dodd of Greensboro, and Bessie McNeill of Winston-Salem; two sons, Lloyd Dodd Jr. and Michael Dodd, both of Winston-Salem; three sisters; a brother; two aunts; three uncles; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. A service of memory will be held Saturday, March 10, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with evangelist Maria McGee, officiating. (HOOPER)

DYKE

Mrs. Debra "Debbie" Talbert Dyke, 40, of 751 Faircloth St., Winston-Salem died March 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Chapel, Kannapolis with the Rev. Jeff Black and the Rev. Tommy Torrence officiating. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery, Concord. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Dyke was born July 20, 1960, in Cabarrus County to C. Ray Talbert and JoAnn Campbell Talbert. She was a graduate of Concord High School in 1979 and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are her husband, Greg Dyke; three children, Holly Burris, Amanda Burris and Dustin Burris; a sister, Mrs. Lanny (Cathy) Smith of Concord; and her parents, C. Ray Talbert and JoAnn Campbell Talbert of Concord.

ERNST

Mr. Owen Moon Ernst, 71, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 17, 1929, in Forsyth County to William Wallace and Irene Watkins Ernst Sr. Mr. Ernst was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of Advent Moravian Church. He was retired from Western Electric and was commander of American Legion Post 55 for seven years. Surviving are his loving wife, Betty Blake Ernst of the residence; a son, Michael O. Ernst and his wife Linda of Advance; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Ashley Ernst of Advance; two sisters, Olive Bowman and Sylvia Cribb of Winston-Salem; and three brothers, James P. Ernst, Wilburn W. Ernst, and George R. Ernst, all of Winston-Salem. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday March 10, 2001, at Advent Moravian Church by the Rev. Tripp May. Interment will follow in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Advent Moravian Church Building Fund, 1514 W. Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.

EVERETT

Solomon Durand Everett departed his life March 5, 2001, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Fayetteville. He was born Aug. 24, 1956, to Cordell and Mary Everett. He was a graduate of Douglas Byrd Senior High School (1974), and Wake Forest University (1978), where he had an outstanding football career. He was a former employee of Phillip Morris USA, a member of Twin City Choristers and a youth mentor. He leaves to cherish his memories his parents, Cordell and Mary Everett; wife Paullette Foman Everett of Winston-Salem; brother Pete (Shirley) Everett of Fayetteville; sister Terri Everett of Fayetteville; and a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. FOLGER

PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Shirley A. Folger, 65, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Bozeman, Mont., to Henry L. and Nina K. Anderson. Mrs. Folger was a homemaker and a manager of World Mission Shop on Reynolda Road. She was a member of Bethania Moravian Church. She was preceded in death by her father. Surviving are her husband, Sherl Folger of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Shari Crangle of Lewisville, and Ms. Molly Bean of Winston-Salem; her mother, Mrs. Nina Anderson of Independence Village, Winston-Salem; a sister, Mrs. Marilyn Barber of Plantation, Fla.; and three grandchildren, Savannah Crangle and Collin Crangle of Lewisville, and Rachel Bean of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at Bethania Moravian Church, 5545 Main St., Bethania followed immediately by a reception at Pinebrook Country Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethania Moravian Church or Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

FRANCE

Funeral services for Mr. Walter W. "John" France, 80, of 1530 Darien Blvd., Winston-Salem, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Exodus Progressive Primitive Baptist Church, Cook School Road, Pilot Mountain with the Rev. Lewis Crawford giving the eulogy. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens in Mount Airy with military rites. He was born in Stokes County May 8, 1920, to the late Joseph and Ida Forrest France, was a member of Messiah Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He died Wednesday morning at the home of his daughter, Ms. Vernelle France in Winston-Salem. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Roberta Penn France; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. Margie Moore and husband Joe of Dover, Del., Mrs. Hattie Taylor and husband David, Mrs. Lucy Jessup, Mrs. Elizabeth Leake and Ms. Vernelle France all of Winston-Salem; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mr. Joe France, Mr. Kenneth France Sr. and wife Janice and the Rev. John W. France and wife Dianne all of Winston-Salem; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Carrie F. Hill of Stuart, Va.; two brothers, Mr. Lee France of Stuart and Mr. Otis France of Washington State; an aunt, Mrs. Nannie Sanders of Cleveland, Ohio; two uncles, Mr. Lester France of Detroit and a devoted uncle, Mr. Randall France of Westfield; nieces; nephews; and other relatives. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Exodus Progressive Primitive Baptist Church and other times at the home of Ms. Vernelle France, 1530 Darien Blvd, Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative CareCenter, 1100 S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Spencer Funeral Directors of Mount Airy are in charge of services and arrangements.

KNIGHT

Santa Maria, Calif. - Mr. Grover Burke Knight, 76, died March 4, 2001, in Santa Maria after a long illness. He was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Stokes County to James Henry Knight and Emma Seawell. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941 and served for 21 years. He then worked in retail sales until his retirement. Surviving are his wife, Karla; two sons, Burke Knight of Victorville, Calif., and Cliff Knight of Santa Maria; a daughter, Violet Loggins of Winston-Salem; a grandson; and a granddaughter. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 10, in Santa Maria. Cards can be mailed to Karla Knight, 1029 Country Hill Road, Santa Maria, CA 93454. Donations may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.

LAWSON

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Samuel Lee Lawson, 81, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at his home. Mr. Lawson was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Stokes County. He was a farmer and had worked at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. as a security guard for 23 years. He was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Edna Taylor Lawson of the home; two daughters, Linda and her husband Odell Myers of Tobaccoville, and Debra and her husband Jimmy Whitley of Walkertown; three sons, David and his wife Betty Lawson of Kernersville, Ronnie and his wife Carolyn Lawson of Lawsonville, and Sammy Ray Lawson of Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren, Todd Lawson and wife Norma, Chris Lawson and wife Lisa, Bobby Lawson, Ricky Lawson and Jennifer Lawson; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Lawson and Bradley Lawson. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday March 10, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel by the Rev. Mervin J. Garrison and Brother Todd Lawson. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. LEE

ANSONVILLE - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Tyson Lee, 78, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at her home. She was born Nov. 4, 1922, in Anson County, a daughter of the late Edgar Baucom and Ann Eliza Martin Tyson. Mrs. Lee was a hairdresser and a member of Ansonville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Beverly, and a brother, Sam Tyson. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Ansonville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Bethlehem cemetery in Ansonville. Visitation will follow the service at the church. Surviving are her husband, Arnold J. Lee of Ansonville; a son, Edgar Lee of Ansonville; two daughters, Iris Trexler of Norwood, and Gerry Lee Duke of Ansonville; a sister, Clara Rhodes of Asheville; and three grandchildren, Neal Beverly of Kernersville, Melicia Lee of Charlotte, and Jamie Lee Lewis of Troy. Memorials may be made to Ansonville Baptist Church or Bethlehem cemetery, Ansonville, NC 28007.

LONG

BOONVILLE - The Rev. Clayton Ried Long, 84, of Center Road passed away Thursday March 8, 2001, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital. He was born June 19, 1916, in Yadkin County to the late Jim and Victoria Pinnix Long. Mr. Long was a graduate of Holmes Bible College in Greenville, S.C., and was a member of Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church and the Western North Carolina Pentecostal Holiness Conference for 70 years. Rev. Long was a missionary to the Cherokee Indians and helped organize the Cherokee Indian Pentecostal Holiness Church with his wife, Vera Whitaker Long, who preceded him in death on Jan. 13, 1997. After his ministry with the Cherokee Indians, he pastored at Pentecostal Holiness churches in West Marion; South Marion; Jacksonville, Fla.; Irwin, Tenn.; Dayton, Tenn.; Mount Airy; and Greensboro. After his retirement, he loved his garden and growing produce for the community. Rev. Long was also preceded in death by a daughter, Myrtle Kay Dunn on Oct. 6, 1970; two brothers, Gene Long and Buck Long; and two sisters, Opal Long and Ozelle Long Mathis. Surviving are his second wife, Ruby Redding Long of the home; two sons, Bobby Kent (Barbara Crater) Long and Jim (Sharon Wagoner) Long, all of Yadkinville; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Magdalene Willard and Arnette (Thad) Branon of Yadkinville; two sisters-in-law, Lydia Underwood Brendle and Sally Ragan; and a brother-in-law, Carl Underwood. Rev. Long's funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Mike Allen and the conference superintendent, the Rev. Thomas H. McGhee. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Longtown cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Women's Ministry of Longtown Pentecostal Holiness Church, Longtown Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055.

MCCARTHY

HAMPTONVILLE - Mrs. Leah Margaret McCarthy, 86, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Thursday March 8, 2001, at Yadkin Nursing Center. She was born Feb. 26, 1915, in Pennsylvania to the late Wellington and Daisy Hoffman Girton. Mrs. McCarthy was a homemaker and was of the Lutheran faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Anthony McCarthy, in 1993. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John and Patty McCarthy of Hamptonville; three grandchildren, Patricia Stutts, Susan Bonanno and Michael McCarthy; and a great-grandchild, Jacob Stutts. Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Daniel Outen. Burial will follow in Yadkin Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville.
