Mrs. Mabel Spencer Price, 88, of 830 W. 14th St., Apt. K, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2001, at the Forsyth Medical Center. She was born March 28, 1913, in Horsepasture, Va., to the late William Ambrus and Nannie V. Penn Spencer. She moved to Winston-Salem after attending the public schools of Henry County, Va. She was retired from Smith Dry Cleaners. Mrs. Price was a member of Union Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Troy Spencer; two sisters, Dallas S. Sims and Mazie S. Woodruff; and a son, McCarthy Price. She is survived by a daughter, Yvonne (James) Bowser of Washington, D.C.; a devoted daughter-in-law, Velma Price of Greensboro; five grandsons, James (Freda) Bowser Jr. of Reston, Va., Steve (Cinnamon) Bowser of Alexandria, Va., Christopher (Nadine) Bowser of Laurel, Md., Eric Price of Reidsville and Christopher (Althea) Price of Chatham, Va.; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, May 17, 2001, in the chapel of the Russell Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery. PUGH

SPARTA - Mr. Sherman Guy Pugh, 57, of 2350 Mount Zion Church Road, Piney Creek, died Monday evening, May 14, 2001, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Elizabeth and Laura Elaine Pugh, both of Raleigh; a special family friend, Bob Greene of Piney Creek; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Thomas Dale and Mary Pugh of Winston-Salem, Dean and Shirley Pugh of Walkertown, Robert Pugh of Winston-Salem and Nicky Pugh of Scottville; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Jackie and C.O. Mabe of Greensboro, Christine and Randy Martin of King, and Ann and Kenneth Triplett of Piney Creek; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Wilson and Ruby Faircloth Pugh. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Methodist Church cemetery. Pastor Mary Lautensleger will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening, May 16, 2001, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. SPEER

Lillie Marie Lineback Speer, 77, of Winston-Salem died at 12:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at the Winston-Salem Rehabili-tation & Healthcare Center after declining health of one year. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, at Oaklawn cemetery in Winston-Salem, with the Rev. Robert Beckam officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn cemetery. She was born July 24, 1923, in Forsyth County to Arthur Harrison Lineback and Lillie Null Lineback. She was retired from Bassick Sack in Winston-Salem and was of the Baptist faith. She dined with her friends on a regular basis at the K&W in Winston-Salem. Surviving are a son, James Ray Boyer of Fort Mill, S.C.; grandchildren Tara Boyer and Caryn Boyer of Winston-Salem; nieces Joy Gentle of Lexington and Claudia Creson of Thomasville; a great-niece, Dawn Gaskill of Winston-Salem; and a great-nephew, Pete Turner of Wallburg. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at David-son Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel.

STARNES

Miss Mary Evelyn Starnes, 48, of the Westbrook Community died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. Miss Starnes was born in Greensboro on Aug. 1, 1952, to William Foster Starnes Jr. and Laura Lucas Starnes. She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School and attended Elon College. Miss Starnes was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was an avid collector of American Dolls and Hallmark ornaments. In addition, she liked to do needlework and travel. Miss Starnes was preceded in death by her father in 1980. She is survived by her mother of the home; two brothers, Jim Starnes of Fuquay-Varina and Frank Starnes and wife Vicky of Winston-Salem and a niece, Christina Starnes. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel, with the Rev. Norwood Green and the Rev. Terrell Shoffner officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. before the service. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of North Carolina, 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 550, Charlotte, NC 28226.

TEMPLES

TAYLORSVILLE - Mrs. Doris Elliott Temples, 80, formerly of Winston-Salem, died Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. Mrs. Temples was a member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church before moving to Pensacola, Fla. She was a volunteer for the Pensacola Red Cross. On April 23, she was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Monroe Temples Jr. Survivors include a son, F.M. "Buddy" Temples III and wife Irma of Niceville, Fla.; a daughter, Tommie Weisner and husband Charles of Hickory; five grandchildren, Nicole and Sabrina Temples and Chad, Mike and Brad Weisner; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until noon Thursday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, conducted by the Rev. H. Samuel Carter.

TIMMONS

Mrs. Alice Juanita Fuller Timmons, 82, affectionately known as "Neet and Wayne," formerly of 1629 E. Third St., Apt. 408B, University Place, passed away Saturday evening May 12, 2001, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center after an extended illness. She was born Oct. 18, 1918, to the late Will and Daisy Peebles Fuller in Winston-Salem where she attended public schools, was a retired domestic worker and was of the Holiness faith. She was predeceased by her spouse, Charlie Timmons. Survivors include a son, Freddie L. (Paulette) Fuller Sr. of Chester, Pa.; three grandchildren, Freddie L. (Lisa) Fuller, Beverly (Ellsworth) Fuller Turner and Pamela Fuller, all of Detroit, Mich.; five great-grandchildren, Ellsworth, Eric, Elexis and Kyle Turner, all of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mrs. Mae Ella Lowrance of Winston-Salem; five nieces, Jo Jean L. (William) Earley, Delois L. (Willie Frank) Sheppard, Judy Cobb, Lacine and Debbra Lowrance; two nephews, Joseph and Michael Lowrance; three great-nephews; five great-nieces; a great-great-nephew; a great-great-niece; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 17, in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home, with the Rev. W.F. Sheppard as the eulogist. Interment will be in the Mount Sinai Baptist Church cemetery in Advance. The family will receive friends from 3:30 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The cortege will assemble and leave from the home of her sister, Mae Ella Lowrance, at 1600 E. Third St., at 3 p.m. Thursday. (Hooper)

WALKER

HAMPTONVILLE - Mr. Worth Donald Walker, 78, of 5740 Weaver Road passed away May 15, 2001, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mr. Walker was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Wilkes County to Mr. Cager Walker and Mrs. Charity Wilmoth Walker. Mr. Walker was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. in Elkin and also a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church in Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Weaver Walker of Hamptonville and Richard Wilmoth of Jonesville. He is survived by his wife, Eva Haynes Walker of the home; two daughters, Brenda Johnson of Harmony and Libby and Larry Campbell of Statesville; four sisters, Opal Bridges, Juanita Church and Inez Rachell, all of Burlington, and Blanche LightFoot of Missouri; a brother, Bill Wilmoth of Jonesville; two grandchildren, Gina and Tammy Johnson of Harmony; and three stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001, at Swan Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Nat Thompson. Mr. Walker will lie in state from 10:30 to 11 a.m. before services. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin. WEAVER

Mr. William "Bill" Spencer Weaver, 55, of Winston-Salem went to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon May 14, 2001. He was born Jan. 28, 1946, in Forsyth County to Ira Spencer and Mary Frances Wooten Weaver. Mr. Weaver was currently employed with Krispy Kreme, where he had worked for 28 years, as a design engineer. He was a member of Advent Moravian Church, where he served as a past president of the Fellowship Sunday-school class, church elder, trustee, youth leader and volunteer in Vacation Bible School. Mr. Weaver was a scoutmaster in the Boy Scouts of America and a coach in Little League Baseball. Surviving are his wife of the home, Patricia Ann Moore Weaver, and two sons, William Spencer and David Wesley Weaver, all of Winston-Salem; his mother-in-law, Ruth Redding; a sister, Carolyn W. (Don) Webster; three aunts, Alice (Hampton) Morgan, Martie (Gene) Boles and Betty (Irvin) Creson, a niece, Lisa (Ricky) Payne; beloved sisters and brothers-in-law and their families; and a special "Uncle Bill." A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Advent Moravian Church by the Rev. Tripp May. Burial will be in the church graveyard. Mr. Weaver will lie in state at the church 30 minutes before the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. WILLIAMS

Miss Dorothy Rose Williams, 79, of U.S. Highway 158 East died Tuesday, May 12, 2001, at her residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert McLawhorn and the Rev. Neil Wilcox officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be considered for Smith Grove United Methodist Church, 3492 US Highway 158 E., Mocksville, NC 27028, or the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, 717 Oak St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101. Miss Williams was born Nov. 10, 1921, in Davie County to the late Roy Everette and Lovie Ellis Williams. She was retired from AT&T with about 30 years' service and was a member of Smith Grove United Methodist Church. She enriched the lives of many boys and girls by teaching Sunday school, and she also taught the Women's Adult Class for many years. She was very active in her church serving on committees through the years. Survivors include three sisters, Inez Williams and Nellie Williams of the home, Frances Caudle and her husband Oscar Lee of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Ellis Harding Williams of Winston-Salem and Nathan Eugene Williams and wife Jean of Rock Hill, S.C.; and 10 nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin Williams.

WILLIAMS

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. - Mr. John H. Williams Jr., 91, died Sunday, May 13, 2001. He was born in Greenville, S.C. and graduated from Cornell University with a bachelor's degree in engineering. "Jack" Williams and his wife "Sis" (Virginia) moved to Winston-Salem in 1941 with their daughter, Stephanie. After numerous assignments with Sears, Roebuck, & Co., around the southeast, he was promoted to store manager of the Trade St. store. A few years later, Mr. Williams opened one of the most unique new Sears' stores in company history on Fourth St. with roof-top parking, where the Wachovia Computer Center is located today across from Modern Chevrolet. Mr. Williams had a distinguished career of 41 years with Sears, spending the final 31 in Winston-Salem. His final assignment of 16 years was as regional director for stores in four states of the southeast. As a very community-minded individual, Jack Williams involved himself in many activities: he was past president of the YMCA and the Family and Child Agency; a board member of Wachovia Bank & Trust Co., Retail Merchant's Association, Salvation Army, United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Wake Forest College Gift Committee, and Forsyth County 4-H Foundation. Mr. Williams is survived by a sister (formally of Greenville, S.C.), Elizabeth W. Houston of Charlotte, N.C., and a brother, William H. Williams, of Duncanville, Texas. He has a son, John H. Williams III, of Clearwater, Fla., and two daughters, Stephanie W. Crumpler and Elizabeth W. Davis, both of Winston-Salem. His wife, Phyllis Stover Williams, survives him, along with her two sons, William H. Stover Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Allen Stover of Rosewell, Ga. Services will be at Pass-A-Grille Community Church at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 16th. Rhodes Funeral Home will handle final arrangements. Flowers can be sent to Rhodes Funeral Home or memorials to the YMCA of Greater St. Petersburg, Fla.

ANDREWS

SPARTA - Mr. Raymon Ford Andrews, 85, of 271 Deerhaven Road died Thursday morning, May 31, 2001, at his home. He is survived by a son, Robert Andrews of Sparta; five daughters, Betty Greene of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Barbara Church, Margaret Bowles, Patsy Jarrett and Shirley Childress, all of Sparta; two sisters, Clyde Greene of Sparta and Helen White of Dobson; 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Lee Wagoner Andrews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 2, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Crab Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Fred E. Jennings and Elder Don Richardson officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Friday evening, June 1, 2001, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta. The family will be at the home of Robert and Pam Andrews, 718 Highway 18S, Sparta. Flowers will be appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Alleghany Foundation.

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. Therman S. Bradshaw, 81, formerly of Newton Grove, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. A funeral service will be 3 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, at St. Matthew Pentecostal Holiness Church in Clinton with the Rev. Tommy Fuquay, the Rev. Jimmy Swinson and the Rev. Paul Brafford officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest cemetery in Newton Grove. Surviving are his wife, Lois Brafford Bradshaw of Kernersville; two sons, Jack R. and Judy B. Bradshaw of Charlotte and Eddie T. Bradshaw of Kernersville; a daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Lacy Walters of Charlotte; stepchildren Bill Brafford of Siler City, Jim Brafford of Kernersville, the Rev. Paul Brafford of Greenville and Mary Lois Solis of Apex; sisters Lena Mae Ellis, Ella Mae Poland and Linda Patterson, all of Rocky Mount; brothers Roy Bradshaw of Charlotte, Durwood Bradshaw of Rocky Mount and Bobby Bradshaw of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; and 13 stepgreat-grandchildren. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service on Friday in the St. Matthew Fellowship Hall. Arrangements by West & Dunn Funeral Home in Newton Grove.

CUCRERA

Mr. Hosea Cucrera, of 1342 Gray Ave., Apt. B, was born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Mary Mitchell Martin and the late Victor Cucrera. He had been a resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by a brother, Chico Cucrera. Hosea departed this life Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at the Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001, in the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with the Rev. Gentry Palmer officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Alesha Cucrera of High Point, and Senita Cucrera and Lola Cucrera, both of Winston-Salem; a son, Kevin Chiles of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren; his mother, Mary M. Martin of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary Smith of Winston-Salem; a special and devoted friend, William Clark; and a host of other relatives and friends. (Hooper)

DOUGHERTY

LAURENS, S.C. - Virginia Clay Dougherty, 82, formerly of Winston-Salem, died May 31, 2001, in Laurens, S.C. She was preceded in death recently by her loving husband of 61 years, the Rev. Thomas Edward Dougherty Sr., and in 1954 by a young daughter, Virginia Mae. Mrs. Dougherty was a devoted and nurturing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her son, Ted Jr., and his wife, Becky, of Winston-Salem and by her daughter, Joy, and her husband Mike of Laurens, S.C. She leaves four grandchildren, Elisa Dougherty Clark and her husband, Gray, of Charlotte, Ted Dougherty III of Richmond, Va. and Michael and Matthew Turner of Laurens, S.C. Mrs. Dougherty's one infant great- granddaughter, Cathryn Virginia Clark lives in Charlotte. Virginia Clay Dougherty was the daughter of W.C. and Lottie Hill Clay of Winston-Salem. Four siblings preceded her in death, W.C. Clay Jr., James Hill Clay, Margaret Clay Houghton and Irving Kenneth Clay. Her surviving siblings are David S. Clay and family of Salisbury, Jacquelynn Clay Pennell and family of Winston-Salem and Richard T. (Dick) Clay and family. also of Winston-Salem. Mrs. Dougherty was a graduate of R.J. Reynolds High School. Following her marriage in 1939, she worked devotedly beside her husband as a pastor's wife, teacher, trainer and caring listener, always with a generous love for people and for life. The Doughertys lived in retirement at the Martha Franks Center in Laurens, S.C. A memorial service will be held there with graveside services conducted at Forsyth Memorial Park on Yadkinville Road in Winston-Salem at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 2. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Dougherty Library Fund, Oakhurst Baptist Church, 222 East Lake Drive, Decatur, GA, 30030.

DULA

WEAVERVILLE - Mr. Tom C. Dula, 87, formerly of 22 Boyd's Chapel Road, Weaverville, and Capri Road, Winston-Salem, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001. Mr. Dula was born May 29, 1914, in Buncombe County, where he had lived for most of his life. He attended Red Oak High School and Asheville University Law School and served in the U.S. Army for three years. Tom was a sales representative with Imperial Life Insurance Co. and was later manager at Volunteer State Life Insurance Co. He also was a former president of the Bank of French Broad. Tom was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Weaverville. He worked at R.S. Royster Co. in Asheville for seven years, in Norfolk, Va. for two years as assistant manager and later in Louisville, Ky. as manager for seven years. He was a member and past master of the Blackmer Lodge #170 AF&AM, serving as certified lecturer for 15 years. He was a member of the Weaverville Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #48 and was an honorary member of the French Broad and Vance Masonic Lodges. He served a period of time on the Weaverville Town Council and was director of the United Fund for two years. Tom was the son of George M. and Nellie Sue Hooker Dula and husband of the late Genell McDaris Dula, who died in 1993. Along with his parents, four sisters, Izola Taylor, Clara LaDez, Alma Hunt and Helen Davis, and two brothers, Gilmer and Cecil Dula, also preceded Tom in death. Surviving are his daughters, Sue Ellen Pettit of Winston-Salem and Sybil Moran of Newtown, Pa.; a sister, Mildred West of Candler; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with the Rev. Jim McCoy officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Baptist Church cemetery with Masonic graveside rites conducted by Blackmer Lodge #170 AF&AM. The lodge will open at 9 a.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Flowers are acceptable and appreciated.

ELLER

Mrs. Mildred Beamon Eller of Winston-Salem died Wednesday afternoon at Forsyth Medical Center. She has "gone to rest awaiting the resurrection," John 11:25. Mrs. Eller was born in Schoolfield, Va., to Everett Monroe Beamon and Sudie Williams Beamon. For most of her adult life she was an active member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, North Congregation in Winston-Salem. Preceding her in death were her father; her daughter, Susan Barnes, in 1981; and her husband, Reece J. Eller, in 1995. Surviving are her son, Steven R. Eller of Winston-Salem; her mother; her brother, James Beamon and his wife Dot of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Helen Mickels of Salisbury, Novella Doub and husband Frank of Pfafftown, Arlene McGee of Winston-Salem and Doris Stewart and husband Bryon of Gastonia; and a number of nieces and nephews. A private graveside service will be held Friday. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Murray Road with officiating elder Demetrius Jones in charge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Watchtower Society, c/o the Kingdom Hall, 4665 Murray Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
