MILLER

NORTH WILKESBORO -Mrs. Madge Miller, 72, widow of Don Miller, of Flint Hill Road died Saturday, May 26, at Villages of Wilkes Skilled Care. Mrs. Miller was born June 14, 1928, in Ashe County to Floyd Thomas and Dona Augusta Bare Miller. She was a member of Baptist Home Baptist Church and served with the WMU of the church for years. She is survived by a son, Tom Miller of Sanford; two daughters, Terri Fay of Greensboro, and Tracie Blackburn of North Wilkesboro; a stepmother, Opal Miller of Sparta; two sisters, Bess Sheets of North Wilkesboro and JoAnn Killingsworth of Graford, Texas; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Baptist Home Baptist Church with the Rev. Harvey Clark officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Miller Funeral Service in North Wilkesboro from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Baptist Home Baptist Church Building Fund, 2367 Sparta Road, North Wilkesboro, NC 28659.

PARKER

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Clarence Spencer Parker, 78, of 193 Simpson Mill Road, husband of Frances Woodruff Parker, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, following a short illness. Mr. Parker was born in Surry County on July 10, 1922, the son of the late Joseph Washington and Bettie Creed Parker. Mr. Parker was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF & AM and a member of Dover Baptist Church. He retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. and then became a store manager for Four Brothers Food Stores. He is survived by his wife, Frances Woodruff Parker of the home; a daughter, Carmen Parker Jessup of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lowell and Margie Parker of Kernersville, and Joseph and Sandy Parker of Lewisville; five grandchildren, Gretchen Parker of Sarasota, Fla., Megan Parker of Boone, Jonathan Jessup of Savannah, Ga., Jennifer Jessup of Raleigh, and Jordan Parker of Lewisville; and a sister, Hazel Parker Byrd of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Parker was preceded in death by a sister, Ollie Doby; and five brothers, Elmer Parker, Lonnie Parker, Joddie Parker, Henry Parker, and Leonard Parker. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The service will be conducted by the Rev. J. Cecil Hill. Masonic rites will be conducted in the mausoleum by Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF & AM, and full military rites will be conducted by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy. The family has requested that memorials be made to Northern Hospice, P.O. Box 6626, Mount Airy, NC 27030, or to Dover Baptist Church, 178 Dover Church Rd., Mount Airy, NC 27030.

RAMSEUR

Mr. Francis Alexander Ramseur, 87, of 2960 Bainbridge Drive passed Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was a native and resident of Winston-Salem for most of his life, where he was a 1930 graduate from Columbian Heights School. He later matriculated at Hampton Institute in Hampton, Va., graduating in 1936. Mr. Ramseur formed his association with N.C. Mutual Life Insurance Co. starting as a combination agent, later retiring after 37 years of service on the Board of Directors. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a faithful member of Grace Presbyterian Church for many years, where he organized the Men's Chorus and was a member of the Chancel Choir, the Men's Council and a former elder. He was honored as "Presbyterian Man of the Year" in 1977. In the community, Mr. Ramseur was a volunteer of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Forsyth County. He was predeceased by his spouse, Arnieze Ramseur. He is survived by two sisters, Barbara R. Brown (spouse Robert), and Louise R. Beale, both of Winston-Salem; a devoted niece, Ramona P. Raines of Winston-Salem; two nephews, James H. Hepler Jr. of Alexandria, Va., and Clarence L. Beale III of Winston-Salem; a great-niece, Erica M. Raines; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29 at Grace Presbyterian Church. Dr. Samuel Stevenson will officiate and interment will follow in the Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service hour at the church, and at other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Presbyterian Church building fund. (Hooper)

RAND

Mrs. Minnie Bell Faulkner Rand, 95, of 850-B File St., passed away on Monday, May 21, 2001, at the Kate Bitting Reynolds Hospice Home following a period of illness. She was a native of Marshville, born on May 19, 1906, to the late Mary and Simon Faulkner, and had lived in Winston-Salem for over 60 years. She was a member of the Mount Calvary Holy Church for 60 years where she was the Mother of the Church and member of many organizations in the church. She was preceded in death by her husband Wally Rand, and a daughter, Fannie Faulkner Johnson. She is survived by two children, Lonnie Faulkner of Buffalo, N.Y., and James Rand of California; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. Special thanks to Josie Goodwin, Bayada Nurses, and Hospice and Palliative CareCenter of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, from the Mount Calvary Holy Church with Bishop Harold I. Williams officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. SMITH

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Thomas Franklin Smith, 83, of 942 S. Franklin Road, beloved husband of Mrs. Ola Faye Boyles Smith, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mr. Smith was born in Surry County on Feb. 1, 1918, to the late Hoke and Eliza Boyd Smith. He served our country during World War II in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Quality Mills Inc., and was a member of Mt. Bethel Moravian Church. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Ola Faye B. Smith of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Charlene and Don Coe of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Debbie Smith of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Justin Smith, Adam Coe, and Molly Coe, all of Mount Airy; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Frances Mankins of Winston-Salem, and Margaret and George Davis, and Mary Montgomery, all of Mount Airy; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Wayne and Mary W. Smith, and Robert C. and Elsie Smith, all of Fayetteville, and Charles and Yvonne Smith of Charlotte. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Ayers, and two brothers, Edward Smith and Jack Smith. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Mt. Bethel Moravian Church, conducted by the Rev. John Fry. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home. STALEY

ELKIN - Mr. Gwyn Edward Staley Jr., 43, of Lexington died unexpectedly Friday, May 25, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Bill Johnson. Burial will be in Antioch Baptist Church cemetery in Wilkes County. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Mr. Staley was born in Wilkes County on March 10, 1958, to Gwyn E. and Bonnie Jester Staley. He attended Wilkes Central High School and was a musician. He is survived by three sisters, Cathy S. (Charles) Myers of Elkin, Donna S. (Louis) Melikian of Atlanta, Ga., and Janice S. Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Alice Huie Wells, 78, of 2734 Woodvale Drive went to be with Jesus on Saturday, May 26, 2001. Mrs. Wells was born in Wilkes County to the late Robert and Mamie Morgan Huie on June 6, 1922. She was a member of Heritage Hills Baptist Church. Mrs. Wells is survived by her husband of 47 years, Robert L. Wells of the home; two sons, Donald Mathis and wife Peggy of Rural Hall, and Lennie Mathis and wife Connie of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Pat Stewart and husband Kenneth of Walnut Cove; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, eight great-great- grandchildren; three brothers, Milo, Monroe, and Fred Huie, all of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Ora Harrold of North Wilkesboro, and Norma Worrell, Rosa Lee Barnette and Evelyn Hatcher, all of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Revs. Jennings O'Neil and Richard Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, May 28, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.

CROSBY

Mrs. Josephine Crosby, 67, of 1832 Kentucky Ave., passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at her residence after a period of illness. She was born on July 22, 1933, in Winston-Salem to Mattie Evans Charles and the late Herman Charles. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Crosby; her father, Herman Dairon Charles; and a brother, Marion R. Charlee. She was a member of Second Calvary Baptist Church for many years before moving her membership to Union Chapel Baptist Church. She was a graduate of the class of 1951 from Atkins High School and was retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County school system with more than 20 years of service. She leaves to cherish her memory four loving daughters, Terrie Charles, Crystal Watts (Richard), Gaynelle Crosby, and Marion Crosby, and a son, Thomas Crosby, all of Winston-Salem; her dear mother, Mattie Charles; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; seven sisters, Deloise McMiller, Eleanor Hood, Linda Charles, Brenda Charles, and Edith Mitchell, all of Winston-Salem, Martha Charles of Ocala, Fla., and Shirley Charles of East Orange, N.J.; a brother, Thomas Charles (Patricia) of Bellevue, Neb.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Union Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Konnie G. Robinson officiating. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. SPENCER, Va. - Murray Fain, 80, husband of Marie Fain, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Va. He is survived by a brother, Walker Fain of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 28, at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel, 109 Broad Street, Martinsville, Va. Arrangements by McKee-Stone Funeral Services.

GRIFFITH

ROSEBORO - Rev. Charles Griffith went to be with the Lord early Friday morning, May 25, 2001, at his home. Mr. Griffith was born in Erie, Pa., on February 12, 1934, the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Earle G. Griffith. He served in the U.S. Air Force Band and was a graduate of Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. He served for ten years in music ministry at several churches. For the past 30 years, he pastored churches in South Carolina, Indiana and North Carolina, retiring from the pastorate of Macedonia Baptist Church, Fayetteville. He then served as the interim pastor of Cumberland Union Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Rev. Griffith was preceded in death by a son, Dean A. Griffith, and by a twin brother, Thomas L. Griffith. He is survived by his wife, Bertha "Teenie" Williams Griffith; two daughters, Sandra K. Faircloth and Ginger (Carl) Naylor of Roseboro, NC; one son, Gary (Melissa) Griffith of Monroe City, Ind.; one brother, Raymond (Betty) Griffith of Fresno, Calif.; one sister, Louise G. (Thurman) Howell of Winston-Salem; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Macedonia Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Dr. Bob Phipps, Pastor of Macedonia, and Rev. Ed Owen of Romulus, Mich. officiating. Burial will follow in the Williams Family cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Butler Funeral Home, Roseboro, NC. Charles' life verse was Romans 1:16.

HAIRSTON

WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Sallie Welch Hairston, 83, of 1030 Bob's Road died May 23, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Pine Hall Baptist Church in Pine Hall. Burial will follow in the church's cemetery. Mrs. Hairston was a native of Stokes County and a member of Pine Hall Baptist Church. She is survived by a son, Billy J. Hairston of the home; two sisters, Martha Eaton of Winston-Salem, and Arlethia Golden of Cincinnati, Ohio; and ten grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Perry-Spencer Funeral Home in Madison.

HIBBETT

THOMASVILLE - Mr. Paul Howard Hibbett Sr., 69, a resident of 608 Kanoy Road, died Thursday, May 25, 2001. Mr. Hibbett was born March 28, 1932, in Glasgow, Ky., a son of Roy Melton Hibbett Sr. and Gladys Emberton. Mr. Hibbett had a distinguished military career that began when he was serving in the National Guard in Glasgow, Ky., and that unit was called up for active duty in 1951 for service in Korea. He then served four years in the Army. After getting out of the Army, he began serving with the Thomasville National Guard and later went to the Winston-Salem Army Reserves, where he became a member of the "Green Beret Special Forces." He then later returned to the High Point National Guard, where he retired in 1983 with 33 years of military service. Mr. Hibbett along with his wife owned and operated Craft-Hibbett Interiors. He was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, where he was an adult Sunday school class teacher. On Oct. 7, 1951, in Chapel 20 at Fort Bragg, Mr. Hibbett was married to Marion Craft, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Rita Taylor and her husband Gary of Kanoy Road; two sons, Mark Hibbett and his wife Laverne of Winston-Salem and Paul Hibbett Jr. and his wife Carol of Lexington; his mother, Mrs. Gladys E. Hibbett of Glasgow, Ky.; three brothers, Roy Melton Hibbett Jr. of Ohio, David Hibbett Sr. of Kanoy Road and Bruce Hibbett of Thomasville; and eight grandchildren, Ryan Taylor, Erin Jones, Paul Hibbett III, Jenny Hibbett, Seth Hibbett, Sarah Hibbett, Heather Moretz and Tyler Moretz. Memorial services for Mr. Hibbett will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Welcome conducted by the Rev. Michael Evans and Vicar Connie Havir. The family will receive friends at the residence, 608 Kanoy Road, Thomasville, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be directed to Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 641 Critcher Drive, Welcome, NC 27374.

LINEBERRY

Mrs. Maxine Cox Lineberry of Meadowbrook Terrace, Wins-ton-Salem, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, in Forest Lawn cemetery, with the Rev. Ralph Webb officiating. Mrs. Lineberry was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lineberry. She is survived by her sisters, Nina Crabtree of Alexandria, Va., Eve Franz of Bellair, Fla., and Wilma Pruitt of McLeansville; caretakers Marj-orie Cashion of East Bend, and Betty Cooper of Greensboro; a special niece, Carolyn Williams of Colfax; a nephew, Jake Alspaugh of Pfafftown; and other nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.

MARTIN

WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Hope Comer Martin, 81, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at her home. She was born in Yadkin County to the late English Arthur and Bessie Burgess Comer. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she enjoyed Sunday school, being active in the senior citizens group, and loved to fellowship with her church family. She retired from Western Electric with 30 years of service, and was a lifetime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph S. Martin, and her sister, Hazel Haynes. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Blaine Williams of Walnut Cove; two brothers, Hubert Comer and Bill Comer (Gertherine), both of Boonville; two grandchildren, Tanya W. Smith (Lee) and Gregg M. Williams (Brenda); three great-grandchildren, Danny Smith, Hope Smith and Samantha Williams; and two special nieces, Joyce Sink and Becky Quesinberry, all of Walnut Cove. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Fryar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening, and at other times at the home of Carolyn and Blaine Williams. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. McDANIEL

CLEMMONS - Pastor Richard "Wolf" McDaniel, 50, of 1885 Central Road, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center on Thursday, May 24, 2001. Mr. McDaniel, a native of Rock Hill, S.C., was the son of Burton McDaniel and Mable McDaniel Myers. He was a U.S. Army Vietnam veteran. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn "Dove" McDaniel; a son, Eric; a daughter, Krista; an adopted son, Kenny; three brothers, Mike McDaniel of Rock Hill, S.C., Tony McDaniel of Easley, S.C., and Buddy McDaniel of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Linda Auten of Lumberton; his stepparents, Mildred McDaniel of Rock Hill, S.C., and Bob Myers of Florida. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, at New Life Wesleyan Church, with the Rev. Doug Hardin officiating. A private interment service will follow. The family will receive friends at the home of Dickie and Linda Martin, 1885 Central Road, Clemmons, NC 27012. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rick Memorial Fund, c/o New Life Wesleyan Church, 2017 W. Clemmonsville Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27012. SEALEY

Mrs. Agnes Faye Wright Sealey, 72, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 15, 1929, to the Rev. John and Mrs. Beulah Wright in Catawba County. Mrs. Sealey was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was employed for a number of years as an inspector for Hanes Knitting. Mrs. Sealey was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Andrew Jackson Sealey, and a brother, Sonny Wright. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Wolff and husband William of Winston-Salem; a sister, Hazel Hogan and husband Bill of Cornelia, Ga.; a brother, Edwards Wright and wife Liz of Olympia, Wash.; two grandchildren, Mystic Ayers and husband Chris of Petersburg, W.Va.; Damon Wolff and wife Laurie of Winston-Salem; and three great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Wolff, Lyndsay Miller and Isaiah Miller. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 27, at Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. Howard Wilburn officiating. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, in Woodland cemetery, with the Rev. Floyd Boles officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
