PARDUE

RONDA - Mr. Henry Lillard Pardue, 66, of 412 Third St. in Ronda died Sunday morning, July 1, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be conducted by the Revs. Mike Hall and Joe Blackburn at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Ronda cemetery with a memorial service to follow at Ronda First Baptist Church. Mr. Pardue was born in Wilkes County on Oct. 12, 1934, to Max Blalox and Theo Lillard Pardue. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, and a graduate of Fruitland Bible Institute. He was a member of Ronda First Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, and formerly served as associate pastor. Before his retirement, he was self-employed in the home insulation business. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Claude Pardue and Mickey Pardue. Surviving are his wife, Levora Couch Pardue of the home; two daughters, Donna P. Page of Sophia and Sharon Dianne Pardue of Millers Creek; a son, Gary (Lisa) Pardue of Ronda; five grandchildren, Jamie Pardue, Jackie Pardue, Joe Cronor, C.J. Lambert and Kayla Lambert; four sisters, Mildred Osborne, Priscilla (Ed) Reynolds, and Doris (Bill) Rhyne, all of Elkin, and Pansy Flud of Fort Worth, Texas; and two brothers, Fred (Carolyn) Pardue of Jonesville, and Dan (Juanita) Pardue of Ronda. The family requests no flowers. Any memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of First Baptist Church in Ronda (P.O. Box 159, Ronda, NC 28670) in memory of Henry Pardue. Messages of condolences may be e-mailed to the Pardue family at kennedy@funeral-plans.com. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Kennedy Funeral Home in Elkin.

SATTERFIELD

Mr. Norman Eugene Satterfield, 80, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Forsyth County to Edward E. and Esther Lashmitt Satterfield on July 1, 1920. He was a member of Hopewell Moravian Church, where he was superintendent of the Sunday school, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Mr. Satterfield was past president of the Winston Salem Pigeon Racing Club, past president of the Lexington Pigeon Racing Club, as well as being past national vice president of the International Federation of American Homing Pigeon Fanciers Inc. Three brothers, Frank, Ray, and Max Satterfield preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Ruth E. Satterfield of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Mrs. Kathy Ivey and husband Art of Pinehurst; two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Scott and Mrs. Betty Jo Spaugh, both of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Edward and Bill Satterfield, both of Winston-Salem. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, at Hopewell Moravian Church with the Revs. Jeff Carter and Norwood Green officiating. Burial will follow at the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The family asks that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103-3200, and to Hopewell Moravian Church, 715 Hopewell Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27127.

BLADENBORO - Mr. William R. Singletary, 73, of 105 Vine Lane in Bladenboro (910-863-4403), passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. He is locally survived by a sister, Mrs. Donnie S. Young (Robert), and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Bryant Swamp Baptist Church, Highway 211 and Bryant Road, Bladenboro. The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 2, at People's Funeral Home, 405 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Whiteville, NC 28472 (910- 642-4055).

BROWN

Mrs. Betty J. Forney-Luis Brown of Winston-Salem passed away June 27, 2001. She is survived by her son, Robert Jones; a sister, Patricia Forney-Luis; and a host of other relatives and friends in North Carolina and Cleveland, Ohio. HERNDON

DURHAM - Mrs. Mary Ellen Rhew Herndon, 72, of 303 E. Carver St. died at Northwood Manor Thursday, June 28, 2001, after three years of declining health. Mrs. Herndon was a native of Chatham County and had lived in Durham most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Ervin Winston Rhew and Bessie Ashley Rhew. Mrs. Herndon was a faithful member of Liberty Baptist Church until her illness prevented her from attending. She was a retired switchboard operator with IBM. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Herndon in 1993. She is survived by two brothers, Earl Rhew of Durham and Ervin Rhew of Charlotte; and four sisters, Myrtle Atkins, Frances Bowden and Mae Roycroft, all of Durham, and Catherine Kennedy of Kernersville. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in Woodlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Jack Cox officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hudson Funeral Home and other times at the home of her brother, Earl Rhew, 2809 Pleasant Green Road. Flowers are acceptable.

KING

MOUNT AIRY - Mrs. Annie Mae Thacker King, 98, of 436 Red Brush Road, widow of Wilburn P. King, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. Mrs. King was born in Stella, Va., March 25, 1903, the daughter of the late George William and Sallie Jane Thomasson Thacker. She was retired from Lawson's Cleaners, was a homemaker and a member of Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Wallace and Daphne King and Harry and Ruby King, all of Mount Airy and J. C. "Jack" King of the home; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by a daughter, Hazel Kuykendall; three sons, Tom King, James Franklin King and Vance King; two great-grandchildren, Jed William Atkins and Hannah Vaden; three sisters, Maude Patterson, Lelia Morris and Clara Marshall; and five brothers, Willie Thacker, Walter Thacker, Robert Thacker, Harry Thacker and Peter Thacker. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Antioch Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Dale Wallace and the Rev. Larry Stone. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Surry County Friends of Seniors, 1218 State St., Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.

McCLURE

Mr. Floyd McClure Jr., 74, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Charlotte, died Thursday, June 28, 2001, at NC Baptist Hospital. Born Jan. 25, 1927, in Charlotte he was the son of the late Floyd and Minnie Vance McClure. Mr. McClure was employed by Carolina Ford Tractor for 15 years before operating his own dealership, McClure Tractor, which he operated for 22 years. He married Louise Bennett Jan. 21, 1945. She predeceased him Oct. 3, 1992. He served on the board of directors of Clyde Savings & Loan and was a member of the Asheville and Hickory Barber Shop Quartets. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton and served in the church choir. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6230 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mr. McClure is survived by his wife, Sylvia whom he married June 21, 1995; son Danny McClure of Clyde; daughter Mrs. Judy M. Harden of Hendersonville; sisters Mrs. Corinne Carland of Hendersonville and Mrs. Doris McGinnis of Oak Island; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the building fund, the cemetery fund or the choir fund of Trinity United Methodist Church, 6230 Beatties Ford Road, Charlotte, NC 28216. MILES

WALKERTOWN - Mr. Nathaniel Taylor Miles Sr., 87, of 4620 Pine Hall Road, affectionately known as "Pete," passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, after a brief period of illness. He was born Feb. 3, 1914, in Walkertown to the late Joe and Mary Taylor Miles. He attended the public schools of Walkertown. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 42 years of service. Mr. Miles was a faithful member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, serving as a past chairman and treasurer of the deacon board. He was also a member of the Board of Christian Education. He was a lifetime member of Prince Hall Masons, Bivouac Lodge No. 503 in Winston-Salem. He was also a member of the Winston Lake Retired Men's Club. Seven brothers and three sisters preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of more than 60 years, Willie Deborah Fuller Miles; four sons, Nathaniel Jr. (Ennis), James (Ellen), Vernell (Vicki) and John Frank (Olyvia); a daughter, Jacquelyn E. Miles; a grand-daughter whom he reared, Arnita M. Miles; 13 other grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Miles (Itasca) of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mollie M. Harris of Walkertown and Eliza F. Gilbert of Washington, D.C.; a brother-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and caring friends. Special thanks to Meals on Wheels, Stitch Center staff and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Homegoing ser-vices will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, 2001, at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Walkertown, with the Rev. I.L. Anthony officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. His remains will be placed in the church at noon today to lie in state until the funeral hour. (Russell)

OSBORNE

ELKIN - Mrs. Eloise Macemore Osborne, 75, of Oakland Drive passed away Thursday, June 28, 2001, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Yadkin County to Isom and Sudie Swaim Macemore. Mrs. Osborne was retired from Stone Manufacturing and was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Osborne; a sister, Louise Tucker; two brothers, Joe and Bill Macemore. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda Osborne of the home and Ann (Doug) Chappell of Jonesville; two grandchildren, Julie (Andy) Reed of Elkin and Angela Chappell of Jonesville; two brothers and a sister-in-law, James (Hilda Gaye) Macemore of Elkin and Claude Macemore of Elgin, S.C.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerry (Curtis) Teague of Elkin and Judy (Albert) King of High Point; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church by Dr. Don Stephens. Burial will follow in Sunrise cemetery. Mrs. Osborne will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 Friday evening at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

SPARTA - Mr. James W. Shaw, 75, of 5704 Pine Swamp Road died Thursday evening, June 28, 2001, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by seven sons and daughters-in-law, Jay and Joyce Shaw and Ray and Wanda Shaw all of Sparta, Alvin and Lucy Shaw of State Road, Brian and Sherry Shaw of Sparta, Lynn and Donna Shaw of Glade Valley, Allen and Carollyn Shaw and Dennis and Dana Shaw all of Sparta; two daughters and a son-in-law, Carolyn Shaw of Winston-Salem and Margaret and Bobby Absher of Glade Valley; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Mack Edwards of Ennice, Mabel and Bill Hamm of Sparta, Nellie and Edwin Ketterling of Glade Valley and Nancy and Bobby Wooten of Glade Valley; five brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Everett and Kathy Shaw and Bill and Dorothy Shaw all of Glade Valley, the Rev. Donald and Viola Shaw of Sparta, Russell and Peggy Shaw and Marvin and Betty Shaw of Glade Valley; 19 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Bobby Absher. Funeral Services will be conducted, at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Rich Hill cemetery. Elder Earl Baker will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Saturday evening, June 30, at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta and other times at the home of Olene Shaw, 841 Shawtown Road, Glade Valley. WEARN

Mrs. Mary Lou Creech "Honey Bee" Wearn passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at her home and was surrounded by all she loved in Winston-Salem. She was born to the late Charles Lester Creech Jr. and Louise Thompson Creech April 8, 1935, in Winston-Salem. She retired from Piedmont/US Airways in 1991. She was a former member of the Junior League of Winston-Salem and Forsyth Country Club. She is survived by three sons, Robert Morrison Wearn III and special friend Patricia Fisher of Lahaina, Hawaii, William Scott Wearn and wife Susan of Winston-Salem and Mark Edward Wearn and wife Liza of Winston-Salem; three grandchildren, Charles Alexander Wearn, Caroline Louise Wearn and Philip Martin Wearn; and a brother, Charles Lester Creech III and wife Deborah. Me-morial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 30, at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home, 120 S. Main St. Burial services for the family will be held at Salem cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sunset Beach Turtle Program, c/o Carmel Zetts, 402 Second St., Sunset Beach, NC 28468; or to Friends of Reynolds High School Auditorium, P.O. ARMSTRONG

Mr. Charles Armstrong, 88, of 1120 Charles St. passed away Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home following a period of illness. He was born Dec. 20, 1912, to Sally Dawkins and Landon Armstrong in Aberdeen. He attended the public schools there and later attended North Carolina A&T State University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II and retired as a disabled veteran. He was a member of the First Waughtown Baptist Church, where he served on various choirs, senior, mass and the male chorus. He also was a frequent visitor at Rising Ebenezer Baptist Church. His presence will be missed by his devoted wife, Rosa Lee Armstrong; a son, Ronnie Smith; a stepdaughter, Patricia Brown (the Rev. William C. Brown); a granddaughter, Kimberlee Brown; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2001, at the First Waughtown Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Bishop officiating. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. (Russell)

CLEMMONS - Mr. Jasper E. Cain, 75, of Clemmons died Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at The Oaks at Forsyth after declining health for several years, Born Sept. 6, 1925, in Monroe County, Ind., he was the son of Albert and Minnie Cain of Bloomington, Ind. Mr. Cain was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II as an electrician's mate third class. He was a retired, self-employed masonry contractor. Mr. Cain was preceded in death by two sisters, Della Crouch and Ruth Hostettler; and five brothers, Clarence Cain, Lawrence Cain, Jason Cain, Stanley Cain and Everette Cain, all of Bloom-ington, Ind. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Byers Cain of the home; a daughter, Gloria Hash and son-in-law, Larry Hash of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Timothy Hash and wife Denise of Summerfield and Michael Hash and wife Cheryl of Stokesdale; a great-grandson, Caleb Hash of Stokesdale; and a great-granddaughter, Mallory Hash of Summerfield. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Forsyth Memor-ial Park, with the Rev. J. Marion Rector officiating.

CAMPBELL

KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Mary Margie Campbell, 92, died Monday, July 2, 2001, at Bradford Village West. Mrs. Campbell was born Aug. 1, 1908, in Guilford County a daughter of the late Addison and Lula Bodenhamer Smith. She was a charter member of Smith Grove Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Campbell; a brother, Dewey Smith; and a grandson, Carroll Gray. She is survived by her daughter, Betty Joan Gray of Kernersville; a son, Robert Campbell and his wife Esther of Greensboro; a sister, Lina B. Westmoreland of Greensboro; three grandchildren, Donald Campbell, Ronald Campbell and his wife Kaye and Ricky Gray and his wife Virginia; four great-grandchildren, Kelly Campbell, Cristi Campbell, Angel Grubbs and Krystal Gray; and two great-great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at Sandy Ridge cemetery by the Rev. Cordell McCollum. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville is assisting the Campbell family.

GABARD

Mr. Wade Henry Gabard Sr., 94, of Meadowbrook Terrace, Winston-Salem on Sunday, July 1, 2001. He was born March 3, 1907, to John Henry and Charlotte Kessler Gabard in Mocksville. Mr. Gabard attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his wife, Lula McDaniel Gabard; and a son, Thomas Gabard. He is survived by a daughter, Elsie Blackburn of Mocksville; and a son W.H. Gabard Jr. and wife Joyce of Winton-Salem; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Gabard; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Willie Gabard of Clemmons and Clarence Gabard of Winston-Salem. Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2001, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory, Clemmons by the Rev. Otis Clampitt. Memorials may be made to Bowman Gray Child Guidance, Wake Forest Medical Center, Medical Center Blvd., Winston-Salem, NC 27157.

GRAHAM

DANBURY - Mrs. India Manuel Petree Graham, 89, of Oxon Hill, Md., died Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2001. She was a longtime resident of North Carolina, residing for most of her life in Danbury. She was born in Kernersville to James William Manuel and Eva Elsir Wilson Manuel on July 3, 1911. She graduated from Walnut Cove High School and attended Mountain Park College and Wake Forest University. She is survived by a son, Donald Gray Newsome and wife Joanne; a daughter, Eileen Newsome Mac Hardy, five grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church of Kernersville by the Rev. George Murray. Burial will be in Maryland.
