Mrs. Dovie Lee Richardson Blackburn, 102, died Friday, July 13, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Aug. 3, 1898, in Patrick County, Va., to George Washington and Tilda Foley Richardson. Mrs. Blackburn was a faithful member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Rowan Blackburn; a son, Francis Blackburn; and a grandchild. Surviving are four daughters, Lucille B. Flynt, Mable B. Tilley and Nina Martin, all of Winston-Salem and Ruth B. Reid of Kernersville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Paul Riggs officiating. Interment will follow in Woodland cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

CANTER

PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Catherine Oehman Canter, 79, died at home Friday morning. She was born in Forsyth County Nov. 15, 1921, to Herman Eugene Oehman and Addie Mae Spainhour Oehman. Mrs. Canter retired from Western Electric Co. She was a longtime member of Bethania Moravian Church. Surviving are her daughter, Wilma Harvey and husband Frank of Winston-Salem; her son, Tom Canter and wife Idalia of Pfafftown; three grandchildren, Renee Martin and husband Todd of Pfafftown, Paul Harvey of Winston-Salem and Matthew Canter and wife April of Walkertown; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Martin, Tessa Canter, Amber and Daniel Dumont; her sister, Mabel Tuttle; and her brother, Bruce Oehman of Libertyville, Ill. The funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at Bethania Moravian Church conducted by the Rev. Charles Fishel. Interment will be in the church graveyard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. DODSON

KING - Gloria Ann "Penny" Dodson, 64, died Thursday, July 12, 2001. She was born Oct. 2, 1936, in Surry County to William Leo and Carrie Creola Cook Boyles. She was a member of the King First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jerry Dean Dodson; a son, Mark Dodson and wife, Renae; and a granddaughter, Anna Williams, all of King. Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, in the Oakdale City cemetery in Mount Airy with Chad Roberts officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Slate Funeral Home in King and other times at the son's home at 1302 Chestnut Grove Road in King. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Resident's Council of Rose Tara Plantation, 125 Plantation Drive, King, NC 27021.

FERGUSON

Ms. Doreen Darsha Ferguson, 39, of 2505 Craver St. went to meet with her Lord on Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at the Forsyth Medical Center. She was a native and resident of Winston-Salem, and was a member of the Now Faith Holiness Church, where she was a member of the Praise Team. She was employed with Ilco-Unican Inc. Doreen was preceded in passing by her father, James Ferguson, and a brother, Billy Lee Bailey. She is survived by three children, LaSheka D. Ferguson, La'Toya D. Ferguson and Timothy D. Ferguson; her dear mother, Maggie Ferguson; three sisters, Jacqueline "Jackie" Ferguson-Jones, Chrisogene F. Leak (Alfred) and Teresa F. Harris (David); her fiance, Monte Felder; and many other relatives and devoted friends. Homegoing services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 16, 2001, in the chapel of Russell Funeral Home with Pastor Marqueeta Friende officiating. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. JAMESON

EASTON, Md. - Florence K. Jameson died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at her home at Londonderry Retirement Community, Easton, Md. She was 84. Florence moved to the Eastern Shore of Maryland 10 months ago. A native of New York, she attended New York University. She was married to Chester William Jameson for 53 years. Before retiring to Winston-Salem, the couple lived in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Mr. Jameson died in 1994. Florence was employed as an accounts manager for several years. She served as a volunteer for "Contact", a suicide-prevention organization in Winston-Salem, for 15 years. She was an accomplished musician, playing both the violin and viola for the Community Philharmonic Orchestra in Andover, Mass. She was also a bridge enthusiast and nature lover. Mrs. Jameson is survived by her daughter, Barbara J. Woods of Neavitt, Md.; her grandchildren, Ananda La Vita and Giacomo La Vita of New York; and her brother, Albin Borden of Manhattan. MOCK

BOONVILLE - Mr. John Delmer Mock Sr., 84, passed away on Thursday, July 12, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem. Mr. Mock was born Oct. 2, 1916, in Yadkin County to Erroll Delmer Mock and Jettie Lillian Angell Mock. Mr. Mock was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Co. in Elkin. After retirement, he became a regionally noted photographer who took the treasured wedding pictures of hundreds of couples starting life together. He was a lifetime member and supporter of Boonville Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, John Delmer (Delores Romeo) Mock Jr. of Raleigh; a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Ellen Branon-Bissette (George Bissette) of Yadkinville; a brother and sister-in-law, Bernard Angell (Mary Lou Holleman) Mock of Waynesville; seven grandchildren, Teresa (Gordon) Garner of Raleigh, Julia (Ken) Norman and Gene Branon Jr. of Yadkinville, Christina (John) Holmes of Boston, Mass., John Mock Branon of Yadkinville, David (Mitzi) Bissette of Wake Forest and Megan (David) Vogler of Lewisville; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Saturday evening at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Boonville Baptist Church by the Rev. Bill Pearson. Mr. Mock will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. before the service. Burial will be at the Boonville cemetery.

NEWSOM

KING - Lizzie Irene Shaw Newsom, 90, of Ingram Drive died Thursday, July 12, 2001. She was born Dec. 20, 1910, in Iredell County to Milliard F. and Bessie Mason Shaw. Mrs. Newsom retired from P.H. Hanes Knitting Co. in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert N. Newsom in 1987. Surviving are two daughters, Edna Watkins of Spartanburg, S.C., and Shirley Newsom of King; a son, Robert L. Newsom of Pfafftown; five grandchildren, Steve and Rick Newsom, Susan Holcomb and Bobby and Kim Watkins; a sister, Edith Blackburn of Kernersville; and a brother, Richard Shaw of Pinnacle. She was a member of First Christian Church in King where funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, with Minister Gene Thompson and the Rev. Tommy Blackburn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Kate B. PEGRAM

MAULDIN, S.C. - Mrs. Annie Ruth Riggs Pegram, 75, passed away Thursday evening, July 12, 2001, at Hillcrest Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Brooke Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. Mrs. Pegram was born Dec. 27, 1925, in Stokes County the daughter of the late James H. and Fannie Frances Duncan Riggs. She was of the Christian faith and started her journey for the Lord at Belews Creek Christian Church. Mrs. Pegram was a faithful wife and a very loving mother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Israel Washington Pegram; two sisters, Mamie Dunlap and Mina Goode; and six brothers, Helon, Clyde, Banner, Tommy, Charlie and Willard Riggs. Surviving are her daughter, Brenda P. Johnson of Greenville, S.C.; two sons, James Washington Pegram of Arizona and Michael Lee Pegram of High Point; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Brooke Funeral Home, Stokesdale. ROBERTSON

LEXINGTON - Laura Mae Michael Robertson, 77, of Sheridanville Family Care of Mebane, formerly of Lexington, died July 13, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Ebenezer United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Weisner officiating. Burial will be in Bixby Presbyterian Church cemetery. Mrs. Robertson was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Davidson County, a daughter of Robert Glenn and Nena Koontz Michael. She was a homemaker and a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Turner C. Robertson. Surviving are two daughters, Eugenia Rumley and husband Richard of Arcadia and Lana Clinard and husband Lonnie of Thomasville; a son, Tom Robertson and wife Isobel of Arcadia; five grandchildren, Richard T. Rumley, Daniel C. Clinard, Leigh Ann Clinard, T.J. Robertson and Joseph Robertson; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Dawn Rumley, Kayla Marie Rumley and Nathan Turner Rumley; a brother, Gorman Michael of Lexington; and a sister, Treva Smith of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Saturday night at Piedmont Funeral Home and other times at the home of a son, Tom Robertson, 244 Henderson Drive, Arcadia. SAIN

MOCKSVILLE - Mr. Roy Wesley Sain, 93, of U.S. Highway 64 E. (Fork Community) died Friday, July 13, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Sain was born in Davie County July 17, 1907, to the late Walter and Mae A. Sain. He was a member of Fulton United Methodist Church, the senior Sunday school class and had served on the administrative board. On June 6, 1988, he was recognized for 35 years of perfect attendance. Mr. Sain was a well-known farmer having sold produce at the Farmer's Market in Winston-Salem for the past 40 plus years. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Sallie Stewart Allen Sain of Mocksville; a stepson, Mr. Herman "Pete" Allen of Mocksville; two grandchildren, Mrs. Nancy Leaird of Sumter, S.C. and Mr. Ricky Allen of Mocksville; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Gaynell Pearman of Lexington; and a brother, Lester Sain of Lexington. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fulton United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Wallace officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

SAYCOCIE

KERNERSVILLE - Markeeran Saycocie, 19, died July 12, 2001, at her residence. She was born June 8, 1982, in Forsyth County the daughter of Jesse and Duk N. Saycocie. Miss Saycocie had attended East Forsyth High School and had a great love of music, especially Teck No. She is survived by her parents, Jesse and Duk N. Saycocie; maternal grandmother Hoa Thi Ninh; sister Khanthaly Saycocie; and brother Sisavanh Saycocie, all of Kernersville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Kernersville Moravian Church Chapel with the Rev. Don Winters officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel, Kernersville. Burial will be at Mount Gur cemetery, Kernersville.

SISK

Mrs. Helen Hall Sisk of Winston-Salem died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at Manor House Assisted Living. She was born in Forsyth County Oct. 11, 1911, to Shirley E. and Little Mattie Jones Hall. Mrs. Sisk had lived in Winston-Salem and Key Biscayne, Fla., and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great source of joy in her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert H. Sisk Sr. on April 23, 1994. Surviving are a son, Robert E. Sisk and wife Sandra of Pfafftown; seven grandchildren, Robert E. Sisk Jr., Bryan Sisk, David Sisk, Brody Sisk, Rebecca Sisk, Bradly Sisk and Sara Sisk; four great-grandchildren, Andrew, Kandis, Kaley and Skyler; and a brother, William Hall. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Forsyth Memorial Park conducted by Dr. Robert Neff. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home. SNOW

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. David Arron Snow, 91, died July 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. A native of Forsyth County, he was born Sept. 7, 1909, the son of Elijah Elias and Sara Alice (Stack) Snow. Mr. Snow was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Kernersville and had retired after 42 years as a machinist head fixer for Adams-Millis Corp. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Snow, on Oct. 24, 1996. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Hauser and son Garry Snow both of Kernersville; sisters Edna Tilley of Kernersville and Vida Crutchfield of Harmony; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Hanes-Lineberry Pierce Chapel. With the Rev. Lee Stocks officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at the chapel. Burial will be at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. STANLEY

Mr. Rufus Hutchens Stanley Jr., of 968 Romie Snow Road, Dobson, N.C., passed away July 12, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov. 10, 1919, in Surry County to Rufus Hutchens Stanley and Blanche Eads Stanley Snow. Mr. Stanley was a veteran of World War II , serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He was a retired farmer, a member of Level Cross United Methodist Church, choir member, a member of Copeland Masonic Lodge #390 and a member of Copeland Ruritan Club. He loved golf, family and friends. He is survived by, a brother, Don Snow of Dobson; a sister, Lucille Snow Dockery of Dobson; two nieces, Elizabeth Stanley Calhoun of Ararat and Mary Stanley Marshall of Pinnacle; two nephews, Andy Snow of East Bend and Adrian Snow of King; and many other special friends and relatives. Mr. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Stanley and Blanche Eads Stanley Snow; his step-father, Andrew Jerome Snow; a sister, Mary Magdalene Snow; and six brothers, Claude Snow, Carl Snow, Johnny Snow, Roy Snow, Jack Snow and Paul Stanley. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Level Cross United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. LaNell Johnson and Brother Mike Poindexter. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2001, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. TURNEY

LOWGAP - Mrs. Belah Hodges Turney, 88, of 204 Turney Road, widow of Emitt Turney, passed away Friday, July 13, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center in Columbia, S.C. Mrs. Turney was born in Surry County on Jan. 13, 1913, the daughter of Pete and Dora Cockerham Hodges. She owned and operated T&G Service in Lowgap for many years, and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, W. Roger and Rachel Gentry of Chapin, S.C.; a granddaughter and spouse, Julie and Jeff Stephens of Charleston, S.C.; a grandson, Russell R. Gentry of Charlotte; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lee Griffith of Pilot Mountain and Ruby and Rudolph Atkins of Lowgap; a brother, Clifford Hodges of Mount Airy; and many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Turney was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Holder, and two brothers, Bishop Hodges and Blan Hodges. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, at Mountain View Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Tony Holder. Burial will be in the Mountain View Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service. EAST BEND - Mrs. Callie Mae Widener Wilson, 73, died Thursday, July 12, 2001, at the home of her daughter. She was a native of Abingdon, Va., had lived in Petersburg, Va., and Washington County, Va., most of her life and had resided in North Carolina for the past five months. Survivors include her son, Jackie Wilson, and his wife, Patty, of Petersburg, Va.; two daughters, Veanie "Cookie" Patrick of East Bend and Mary W. Weaver and husband, Lee, of Shelby; three brothers, Bill Widener of Abingdon, Va., Henry Lee Widener of Petersburg, Va., and Claiborne Widener of Meadowview, Va.; two sisters, Pauline Kestner of Petersburg, Va., and Inez Warren of Abingdon, Va.; grandchildren Allen Stout, Michelle Richardson, Jodie Blanton, Steven Wilson and Melissa Patrick; great-grandchildren Brandon Weaver, Brandon Stout, Caitlin Stout and Lindsey Richardson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 15, 2001, in the Farris Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, Va., is serving the family of Mrs. Callie Mae Widener Wilson.

BYNUM

Mrs. Maggie Peterson Bynum, of 9-D, Salem Gardens, passed away Monday, July 9, 2001, at her residence. She was a native of Daizell, S.C. Mrs. Bynum was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Doris C. (Alford Leon Sr.) Davis of this city; four grandchildren, Sylvia (Eddie) Bines; Jana (Keith) Barnette, Shannon (Timothy) Propst and Alford Leon Davis Jr., all of this city; 10 great-grandchildren; an aunt, Mrs. Ann Peterson of East Orange, N.J.; several other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, 2001, from Friendship Baptist Church, where the Rev. S.E. Tyndall will officiate. Interment will be in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the services from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. The remains may be viewed today at Clark S. Brown and Sons Funeral Home. The family may be contacted at the residence of her daughter, Doris C. Davis, 5069 Bismark St., Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Arrangements in the care of Douthit Funeral Services (896-0061).
