HOT SPRINGS - Phyllis Ann Moore, 56, died July 22, 2001, at Duke Medical Center in Durham following a lengthy illness. Phyllis was born March 6, 1945, the youngest daughter of the late Garth and Virginia Stump of McComas, W.Va. She is survived by her husband Grover Moore of Hot Springs; a daughter, Rebecca Moore of Winston-Salem; a son, William Jess Moore II and wife Kristen of Salisbury, Md.; two grandsons, D.J. and Dylan Long of Winston-Salem; and a granddaughter, Maggie Moore of Salisbury, Md. Also surviving are a brother, William Stump and wife Janet of Virginia; four sisters, Virginia and husband John Bennett of Jacksonville, Fla., Joy and husband Randolph Scott of Eutawville, S.C., and Patricia and husband Calvin Peddycord, and Betty and husband Henry Stewart, all of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 23, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Madison Funeral Home Chapel in Marshall. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery in Hot Springs.

MOTSINGER

WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Willis Jones Motsinger, 76, of 118 Townsend Drive died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Forsyth County, a son of the late Ira L. and Dora Jones Motsinger. He was married to Emma June Hiatt Motsinger Aug. 12, 1950. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a very active member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, where he served as chairman of the trustees and various other committees. He retired from and was the former owner of Willis J. Motsinger Real Estate Co. Surviving are his wife, Emma June Hiatt Motsinger of the home: three daughters, Willann Motsinger Baker and husband Lowell of Clemmons, Lorilynn Egan and husband Christopher of Virginia Beach, Va., and Alisa Motsinger Stevens of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Edna Wooten and Frances Spach of Winston-Salem, Nancy Idol of Greensboro, and Linda Harlan of Raleigh; five brothers, A.C. Motsinger of Graham, Earl Motsinger of Concord, Richard Motsinger of Winston-Salem, Carl Motsinger of High Point, and Hillery Motsinger of Dallas, Texas; and five grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, July 23 at Sedge Garden United Methodist Church by the Revs. Ed Biggers and Corey Miller. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Sedge Garden United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Road, Kernersville, NC 27284.

NELSON

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mrs. Bernice Jones Nelson, 70, of 1151 College Ave. in Columbus, Ohio, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2001, at the Wexner Heritage Village in Columbus, Ohio. She was born July 9, 1931, in Danville, Va., and spent most of her life in Winston-Salem. After graduating from Atkins High School, she was united in marriage to Blanden Nelson. In later years, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, where she was employed at Mount Carmel Hospital. Along with her birth parents, she was preceded in death by her adopted mother, Mrs. Lessie Jones Flynn; and a daughter, Sylvia R. Wiley. Bernice leaves to cherish her memory her husband Blanden Nelson of Wexner Heritage Village in Columbus, Ohio; a daughter, Rose Jones; two grandchildren, Jarmel Jones and Alishea Relaford; a great-grandchild, Daryl Green; two adopted sisters, Dorothy Morgan and Alma Flynn; a nephew, Edward Owens Jr. (Mildred) of Baltimore, Md.; five nieces, Arvida Woods of Silver Spring, Md., Evelyn Robinson of Gainsville, Fla., and Jaqueline Owens, Sharon Owens and Geraldine Smith, all of Baltimore, Md.; a sister-in-law, Hilda Nelson of Baltimore, Md.; 17 great-nieces and nephews; and special friends, Maurice and Kathy Parks of Columbus, Ohio, and Ardridell Pannell of Winston-Salem. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, from the Evergreen cemetery with Dr. Paul A. Lowe Jr. officiating. (RUSSELL)

REED

MADISON - Mrs. Gloria Jean Williams Reed, 56, of 601 Smothers Road, died Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Brooke Funeral Chapel in Stokesdale. The Rev. Wally Harper will be officiating the service with interment in the Flat Rock United Methodist Church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Brooke Funeral Home in Stokesdale. Mrs. Reed was born Oct. 21, 1944, in Baltimore, Md., to the late Adelbert Spencer and Bessie Lee Shoemaker Williams. She was an avid participant in archery competitions and was a two-time IBO World Champion. Mrs. Reed also had numerous local wins in archery. She also was an archery teacher. Jean loved her granddaughter Sidney dearly. Mrs. Reed was employed by Morris and Morris Dentist Office in Stokesdale as office manager for several years. Survivors include her husband Cody Lee Reed Jr. of the home; a daughter, Susan Whiting of Walkertown; a son Billy and his wife Shannon Murphy of Bethany; a stepdaughter, Chanay Reed of Alabama; and a granddaughter, Sidney Soudrette of Walkertown. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Bow Hunters of America, c/o Brooke Funeral Home, P.O. Box 690, Stokesdale, NC 27357. Brooke Funeral Home of Stokesdale is serving the Reed family.

RICHARDSON

Mrs. Mozelle Hauser Richardson, 91, formerly of 3946 Milton Drive, died Friday, July 20, 2001, at Silas Creek Manor. She was born April 3, 1910, in Forsyth County and attended the local public schools. Mrs. Richardson was a member of Carver Road Church of Christ. She retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 38 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband Mr. Lewis Richardson. She is survived locally by a devoted niece and nephew, Mr. Ronald G. Hauser and Mrs. Jewell Tindal, both of the city; a devoted cousin, Ms. Emma J. Webb of Philadelphia, Penn.; two nieces, Ms. Eloise Petree and Ms. Thelma Foy, both of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Carver Road Church of Christ with Brother Cloyd Cecil officiating. Family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will meet at the home of Mrs. Richardson's nephew, Mr. Ronald G. Hauser (711-A South Marshall St. in Winston-Salem, Academy Park). Clark S. Brown & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of services and arrangements.

THRIFT

Mrs. Marie Ackerman Bracey Thrift, 75, of Winston-Salem, died at her home. She was born Dec. 28, 1925, in Raleigh to F.B. and Antha Tolbert Ackerman, and was of the Baptist faith. She was a resident of Spruce Street in Laurinburg until the death of her husband Jesse F. Bracey. She then moved to Winston-Salem and was a secretary with the N.C. Department of Transportation, retiring in 1988. She was preceded in death by her parents; her second husband, Charles H. Thrift Jr., and a sister, Vivian Neeley. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Bracey Trahan of Redding, Calif.; two sons, Gerald F. Bracey and wife Nancy of Winston-Salem, and Christopher S. Thrift of the home; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Keith Ackerman of Laurinburg. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Ashpole cemetery in Rowland. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Children's Center, 2315 Coliseum Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27106.

TRANSOU

Mrs. Margaret James Transou, 89, formerly of Hawthorne Road SW in Winston-Salem, died Sunday morning July 22, 2001, at Carolina Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Greensboro. She was born July 2, 1912, in Davie County to Thomas and Candace Cope James. Mrs. Transou was a lifelong member of Ardmore Baptist Church and worked in the Mothers Morning Out program. She was preceded in death by her husband Hal G. Transou. Surviving are a son, Hal G. Transou Jr. and his wife Mary Coleman Transou of Greensboro; two grandsons and their wives, Tripp and Susie Transou of Tallahassee, Fla.; and Scott and Melissa Transou of South Bend, Ind.; and five great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Forsyth Memorial Park by the Rev. Ty Talton. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. WALL

SILOAM - Mrs. Annie Mae Mayes Wall, 82, widow of Charlie Elmer Wall, of 116 Hardy Road, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Feb. 11, 1919, in Surry County to Johnny Edward and Lela Hayes Mayes. Mrs. Wall was a homemaker and charter member of Siloam Friends Meeting. She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joyce Burchette of Advance, and Jackie March and husband Al of Siloam; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bobby Wall and wife Margaret of Mount Airy, Bill "Glen Ray" Wall and fiancee Sue Hines of Siloam, and Edgar Wall and wife Annie Lee of Siloam; an adopted son, Dwight Holder of Siloam; eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ellis Mayes of Pilot Mountain, and Lester Mayes of Elkin; and five sisters, Kathleen Brown, Jestine Eads, and Christine Pike, all of Siloam, Reynolda Newman of Elkin, and Peggy Holyfield of Dobson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Siloam Friends Meeting. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, July 23, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Wall's daughter, Jackie Marsh (435 Quaker Church Road, Siloam, NC 27047). WRIGHT

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. George Carver Wright, 92, of 1406 Henri St., husband of Lucille Patterson Wright, passed away Saturday, July 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Wright was born in Surry County March 27, 1909, to the late Albert Newton and Mary Tickle Wright. Mr. Wright was a founder and director of Mount Airy United Savings and Loan, and co-owned and operated Granite City Motor Company from 1934 to 1960. He was a member of the Surry Shrine Club and Granite Masonic Lodge #322 AF and AM for over 50 years, was a member of the Mount Airy Lions Club, a member of the Mount Airy Country Club, past president of the YMCA (now Reeves Community Center), and an avid golfer. He was a faithful member of Central United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife Lucille Patterson Wright of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Tom Lawrence of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Judy and Clyde Goad of Columbus, Ohio; a son and daughter-in-law, George C. Wright Jr. and Mary Wright of Stone Mountain, Ga.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Effie Smith of Winston-Salem, Pearl Needham of Pilot Mountain, and Katie Gilbert of Germanton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by two brothers, Jasper Wright and Charles Wright. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at Central United Methodist Church. The service will be conducted by George C. Wright III and the Rev. John Davis. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. BAYLY

RONDA - Ms. Amber Leigh Bayly, 6, of Macedonia Church Road, passed away Saturday, Aug. 18. 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Ms. Bayly was born May 2, 1995, in Broward County, Fla., to Robert Allan and Teresa Luffman Bayly. Ms. Bayly was a kindergarten student at Ronda Clingman Elementary School. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Allan Bayly. Survivors include her mother, Teresa Luffman Bayly, and a sister, Crystal Renee Bayly, both of the home; a brother, Robert Allan Bayly Jr. of Charlotte; her maternal grandfather and spouse, Albert James and Betty Luffman of Boonville; her maternal grandmother and spouse, Joyce and Robert Goodman of Coconut Creek, Fla.; and her paternal grandmother Emily Bayly of Hendersonville. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Mountlawn Memorial Park by the Rev. Howard Luffman. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. BOULWARE

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7. Mrs. Joycie Brown Boulware, wife of the late Andrew Dee Boulware, known to family and friends as "Dama," of 1120 N. Cameron Ave., went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 17, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Feb. 19, 1905, in Davie County to the late Walter and Mary Brown. She was a faithful member of Hanes Memorial C.M.E. Church, where she served on the Stewardess Board, Missionary Society, Sunday School, and Progressive League. She was predeceased by her parents and brother, Charlie Cain. She leaves to cherish her loving memory two devoted daughters, Miriam B. Venable (Quentin), and Maxine B. Greer; eight loving grandchildren, Tomara B. Monroe (Ronnie), with whom she lived, Rouval Venable (Zella) of Knoxville, Tenn., Arah Pinson (Emile) of Orangeburg, S.C., Ava Bethea, Allison Boulware, Lonnetta Greer, Saburee Greer, and Ivee Greer, all of Winston-Salem; 17 great-grandchildren, two of whom were very dear to her, Robert J. Greer and Justin Monroe; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Latha Cain of Sanford; her extended family, James H. Parrott, Robert and Bertie Felder, Robert T. Greer, Madeline S. Gerald, Frank McKissick, Yvonne Kimbrough, Shanta Fletcher (Carlos), and Crystal Gerald, all of Winston-Salem, Earl Ijames (Eugenia) of Wendell, and Ericka Ijames of Acworth, Ga.; devoted caregivers, Vernice Simmons, Nancy Carpenter, and Neltar Deshalto; and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Hanes Memorial C.M.E. Church by the Revs. James A. Hawkins and Rayfield Medcalf. ADVANCE - Mrs. Mattie Warner Bowles, 79, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001. She was born in Winston-Salem on May 12, 1922, to Edward Gray and Ida Cody Warner. She was a charter member of Green Meadows Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, at Green Meadows Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Bowles was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Bowles Jr.; her parents; and a sister, Laura Burrow. Surviving are a daughter, Linda B. Canter and husband George of Mocksville; two sons, Kenneth Bowles and wife Elaine, and Jimmy Bowles and wife Penny, all of Advance; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Louise Smith of Advance, Charlotte Blackburn of Kernersville, and Minnie Beane, Betty Duncan, and Annie Flowers, all of Winston-Salem; and two brothers, Robert Warner and Eddie Warner, both of East Bend. DESERABLE

KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Doris Anna Mellon Deserable, 81, of 1042 Laverne Lane died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Deserable was born in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of the late Richard E. and Edna Lederer Mellon. She and her husband resided in Florida for over 50 years, moving to Kernersville in 2000. While in Florida, Mrs. Deserable was a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary in Orlando and Palm Bay, and was a volunteer for the Harbor City Ambulance Squad. A son, James Deserable, preceded her in death in 1998. Surviving are her husband Ferdinand J. Deserable of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Verna and Stewart Kellum of Kernersville, and Doris and Wayne Peardon of Calhoun, Ga.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Rev. Joseph E. Tustin will conduct a Liturgy of the Word service at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. HARDING

Deacon Richard John Hardin, of 610 West 24 1/2 St. passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2001, at the home. He was a native of Lewisville. He was born Feb. 20, 1912, to the late John and Emma Harding. Deacon Harding attended public schools and was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. He was a member of Union Baptist Church where he was Deacon Emeritus and a former member of the Senior Choir, Willing Workers Auxiliary and the Sunday School Department. He also served as custodian of Union Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Aquilla Turner; and granddaughter, Akinyi Harding. Surviving are his wife Anne Harding of the home; a daughter, Cora Jarvis of the city; three sons, Richard (Audomelia) Robinson of Newport News, Va., Terry (Teresa) Hilton of the city, and Rion (Sheila) Hilton of Cool Springs; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Versie Harding of the city; a brother-in-law, Roosevelt Hair-ston of Washington, D.C.; a sister-in-law, Clydia (Eugene) Mitchell of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Union Baptist Church where the Rev. Dr. S.W. Mack Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the services from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. The remains may be viewed today at Douthit Visitation Center (2920 Greenway Ave.) from 2:30 to 7 p.m. The family may be contacted at the residence. Arrangements are in the care of Douthit Funeral Services (896-0061).

LAMBETH

Mrs. Ina W. Lambeth, 90, of 1244 Arbor Road, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. Tentative funeral arrangements include a graveside service to be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21 at Forest Lawn cemetery in Greensboro. A native of La Grange, Ga., Mrs. Lambeth was born Oct. 18, 1910, to the late Richard Jefferson Willis III and Emma Pittman Bradfield Willis. Mrs. Lambeth was educated in the public schools of La Grange, Ga., after which she attended Winthrop College and graduated from Georgia State College for Women. She taught several years in the public schools of Greensboro before marrying Mark Thomas Lambeth. Her husband served as coach, teacher and principal in Greensboro and High Point. He also served as superintendent of schools in Clayton, Thomasville, Beaufort County and Statesville. Mr. Lambeth was superintendent of the Methodist Children's Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Lambeth was active in numerous civic and church organizations in the communities in which she and Mr. Lambeth resided. She is survived by a son, Thomas W. Lambeth of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Stella Lambeth "Mrs. T.E." Pleasants of Greensboro; a sister, Mrs. Robert E. Baldwin (Emily) of West Columbia, S.C.; a brother, Richard Jefferson Willis IV of Anderson, S.C.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service. Memorials may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 315 W. Broad Street, Statesville, NC 28677, or to a charity of one's choice. Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service is serving the Lambeth family.

MEADOWS

Mr. Willie Douglas Meadows, 87, of 7511 Old Lexington Road, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2001, at Meadowbrook Manor of Clemmons. He was born Feb. 8, 1914, in Mecklenburg County to Parks Leroy and Laura Jane Wilson Meadows. Mr. Meadows was of the Baptist faith and served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Hiatt Meadows, and two sons, Jimmy Douglas Meadows and Dwight Lee Meadows. Survivors include a son, Cletus L. Meadows and wife Elva M. of Winston-Salem; three daughters, Sheliva Jean Gough and husband Larry of King, Kathy Southern and husband Lloyd of Midway, and Laura Reynolds and husband Rick of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel with the Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
