PEEPLES

KERNERSVILLE - Viola V. Peeples, 86, died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Forsyth County on May 20, 1915, a daughter of Henry Clay and Cora (Grubbs) Flynt. A lifelong resident of Forsyth County, she was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted Peeples; three sisters; and three brothers. She is survived by sisters Alna F. Neugent and Betty Ruth Flynt of Kernersville and Mary Ann McCloud of Deep Gap; a brother, Henry Flynt of Kernersville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Jim and Opal Carter. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel, Kernersville. Burial will be at Mount Gur cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the chapel. Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 S. Main St., Kernersville, NC 27284.

REECE

BOONVILLE - Mrs. Bettye Redding Reece, 65, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a long battle with leukemia. She was born March 11, 1936, in Yadkin County to the late Miles Preston and Ella Beshears Redding. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church in Boonville. Bettye was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was an avid gardener who loved her flowers. Her parents and two brothers, Eugene and Charles Redding preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Phillip of the home; two daughters, Debra (Dr. Bill) Simons of Asheville, and Amy (Roberto) Webber of Winston-Salem; two granddaughters, Alexandra McGhee of Chapel Hill and Barclay McGhee of Asheville; three sisters, Pat Shoemaker, Essie Kreeger and Iva Miller, all of Winston-Salem; a brother, John L. Redding of Yadkinville; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Beau. She was a retired executive secretary from Goodwill Industries. Her funeral service will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Gentry Family Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Wetherholt and the Rev. Eddy Driver officiating. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Church cemetery in Boonville. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. The family requests that memorials may be made to Charity Baptist Church, Boonville, NC 27011; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

ROSSER

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. David Eugene Rosser of 440 Parker Road died Wednesday at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Locustgrove, Ga., on May 14, 1909, to the late Jeff and Mary Pruitt Rosser and was a former resident of Philadelphia, Pa., before moving to Mount Airy in 1973. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, was a retired manager of the Hour Glass Dry Cleaners in Philadelphia, a former employee of Spencer's Quick-Stop Convenient Store and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his devoted wife, Mrs. Maggie Scales Rosser of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Dillard of Harrisburg, Pa.; two sons, Michael Rosser of Mount Airy and Rodney Rosser and wife Teressa of Rocky Mount; six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Willis of Atlanta, Ga. and Ms. Odia Rosser of Locustgrove, Ga.; three brothers, J.P. Rosser and the Rev. Obie Rosser, both of Locustgrove and Chester Rosser of Atlanta; nieces; nephews, including a devoted nephew, Hollace Rosser of Atlanta; four sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; other relatives; and a host of friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Stateline Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Carl Morgan, pastor, will officiate and Elder William Beamer will be the eulogist. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites conducted by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard Post 2019 of Mount Airy and Post 9436 of Pilot Mountain. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 Saturday morning at the church. Spencer Funeral Directors of Mount Airy are in charge of services and arrangements.

SMITH

DANBURY - Mrs. Lydia Elizabeth "Lib" Martin Smith, 92, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 10, 2001, at Stokes Reynolds Hospital. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., to the late James Franklin "Frank" Martin and Lydia E. Leese Martin. She had been a resident of Danbury for 78 years, served as a town clerk for several years and was a member of Danbury Community Church. Lib was the Northwest regional librarian in Stokes County for more than 30 years. She will be best remembered for her trips around the county in the bookmobile, giving children opportunities to travel through books. Preceding her in death was her brother, Paul Henderson Martin. Surviving are a sister, Lois Martin Burgett Seibt of Spanish Fort, Ala.; a brother, Francis P. Martin of Danbury; three nieces, Sarah Martin Tuttle (Gary) of Cromwell, Ind.; Mary Ellen Martin of Danbury, and Elizabeth Burgett Hutson (Kenneth) of Mobile, Ala.; two great-nieces; four great-nephews; and many other relatives. A 3 p.m. funeral service will be held Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at Danbury Com-munity Church, with interment following in Danbury cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 Wednesday evening at Burroughs Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Danbury Beautifi-cation Fund, c/o Danbury Town Office, Courthouse Square, Dan-bury, NC 27016.

SPANGENBERG

CLEMMONS - Daniel Ryan Spangenberg, 14, died at Duke Medical Center Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001. He was born in Allentown, Pa., Dec. 2, 1986, to Mark and Mary Haas Spangenberg. He was a member of Holy Family and St. Leo's Catholic Churches. Daniel attended St. Leo's School for nine years and was a freshman at Bishop McGuinness. He played basketball at St. Leo's and was active in the youth group. Daniel loved art, golf, track and video games. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Martha Spangenberg. Daniel is survived by his parents; a sister, Suzanne; his dog, Lucy; maternal grandparents, Kenneth and Marilyn Haas; uncle Greg Haas; uncle Mike Haas and wife Deanna, and Sydney; aunt Suzanne Haas; aunts Carol Pongracz and Jeannie and husband Jamie Brensinger; uncle Chip Spangenberg; aunt Darcie Spangenberg; aunt Denise and husband Joel Lauderslager; uncle Chris and wife Lisa Spangenberg; uncles Jeff and Cory Spangenberg; a multiple of first and second cousins; and numerous friends. Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001, at Holy Family Catholic Church, conducted by Father Michael Buttner. Burial will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 Friday evening at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Children's Leukemia Society.

TAYLOR

KING - Mrs. China Hester Taylor, 91, died Oct. 8, 2001, at Scenic View Rehabilitation Center in King after a lengthy illness. She was a member of Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church. She retired from Made-Rite Co. Mrs. Taylor was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother; a devoted Christian and friend to all. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cobe Taylor; a daughter, Mary Lee Hickman; a grandchild; a great-grandchild; two sisters; and five brothers. She is survived by two sons, John D. Taylor of Winston-Salem (Geraldine of Pilot Mountain) and Charles Stewart (Marjorie) of Pilot Mountain; three daughters, Althea Dobson of Pilot Mountain, Faye Hatcher of Tobaccoville and Dairetha Mitchell of Washington, D.C.; a sister, Mertha Steward of Mount Airy; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Dodd and Mildred Dodd of Tobaccoville; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great-grandchildren; and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Chestnut Ridge Progressive Primitive Baptist Church with Pastor James Denson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Spencer Funeral Home.

TERRY

LEXINGTON - Mr. Angelo DeBurt Terry, 46, of 401 Foy Ave., departed this life Oct. 8, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born to Lewis and Mattie Terry Nov. 3, 1954, in Davidson County. He attended local public schools of Davidson County. He was a former truck driver for Billings Trucking. His civic activities included being assistant coach on the Little League Junior Jackets and Lexington Senior High Booster Executive Board. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Terry was preceded in death by his brother, Carlos F. Terry. He leaves to cherish his memory loving wife, Candace M. Jordan Terry; two sons, Angelo Bernard Carter of the U.S. Navy and Brian Lewis Terry of the home; two daughters, Miss Sophia Latrice Carter of Lexington, and Miss Victoria (Tori) Amber Terry of the home; two brothers, Tyrone Terry of Atlanta, Ga. and Ronald Terry (Rosa) Terry of Lexington; five sisters, Brenda Hargrave of Lexington, Verena (Ivey) Petty of Little River, S.C., Angelene Terry of Winston-Salem, Rhonda K. Fuller of Lexington and Denise Terry of Alexandria, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at the Frances S. & Jerry C. Gilmore Jr. Memorial Chapel in Lexington, where Dr. H.B. Waiter will officiate. Burial will follow in Lexington City cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. It is requested by the family that in lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the minor children of Angelo Terry. TURNER

HAMPTONVILLE - Mr. Edwin Turner, 58, of Sloans Mill Road passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at his home. He was born Feb. 6, 1943, in Yadkin County to Marvin and Mortie Swaim Turner. Mr. Turner was a carpenter and a member of West Yadkin Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Wanda J. Turner, of the home; his son, Montey Shane (Erin) Turner, of Boonville; his parents, of Hamptonville; three sisters, Grace Dean (Harold) Steelman, of Yadkinville, Angie (Wayne) Gunter, of Mocksville and Gail Walker of Yadkinville; and three brothers, Joseph Lee (Ethel) Turner, Calvin (Marlene) Turner and Cecil Turner, all of Hamptonville. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at West Yadkin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Bell and the Rev. Brian Sipes. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., in Yadkinville.

LOWGAP - Mrs. Ruth Pruitt Willey, wife of Charlie E. Willey Sr. of 2999 Pine Ridge Road died Oct. 11, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy.

WILMOTH

THURMOND - Mr. Dallas Homer Wilmoth, 87, of Union Hill Road passed away Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at his residence. Mr. Wilmoth was born June 10, 1914, in Surry County to James Calvin and Effie Pardew Wilmoth. Mr. Wilmoth was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and attended Union Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Joe Calvin Wilmoth; and two brothers, James Doughton Wilmoth and Charlie Clinton Wilmoth. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Mabel Thompson Wilmoth, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Corliss Wilmoth, of Thurmond; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Harry Pratt, of Simpsonville, S.C., and Ruby and Bobby Joe Haynes, of Elkin; a daughter-in-law, Jettie Wilmoth, of Thurmond; three brothers, Eugene, Spencer and Corbit Wilmoth, all of Thurmond; two sisters, Dorothy Crouse, of Thurmond and Collie Sidden, of Lewisville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2001, at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tony Bowman, the Rev. Greg Simmons and the Rev. Howard Edwards. Burial will follow in the Union Hill Baptist Church cemetery. The family received friends from 7 to 8:30 Thursday evening at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. ROARING GAP - Mrs. Joanne Mary Haywood Yawn, 80, of 18 Buchanan St., High Meadows Estates, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, 2001, at her residence. She was born in Burton-On-Trent, England, June 13, 1921, to Jonas G. Haywood and Lilly McFetridge Haywood. She is survived by her husband, Joseph "Joe" B. Yawn; a daughter, Terry L. Ivinson of Clenton Township, Mich.; a grandson, Nicolas D. Sheppard of Clenton Township, Mich.; and a brother, Gerald Haywood of Brampton, Ontario, Canada. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon at 2, Oct. 13, 2001, at High Meadows Country Club, Roaring Gap. Pastor Stanley McGraw and Dr. James T. Frazier will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Grandview Memorial in Sparta is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Eugene Esque Brim, 84, of Winston-Salem passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro. He was born March 11, 1917, in Patrick County, Va., to Sam B. and Jane S. Smith Brim. Mr. Brim was a longtime employee of Winston Leaf Co. and was of the Methodist faith. He is survived by a son, Clifton Brim of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Betty Jo Williams of Winston-Salem; two grand-children, Scott Byers and wife Marcia of Gainesville, Ga., and India Brim of Winston-Salem; three sisters, Alma B. France of Winston-Salem and Pearlie Davis and Bernice Brim of Cleveland, Ohio; three nieces, Peggy McArthur and Jane France of Winston-Salem and Geraldine Dobson and husband Curt of Pfafftown; and three nephews, Charles France, Johnny France and wife Brenda and Randy Thomas and wife Geneva, all of Winston-Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife, Veolia Hill Brim. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Cox Needham Funeral Home and Chapel conducted by the Rev. Gary Hairston. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 Tuesday evening, Oct. 9, 2001, the funeral home. The Brim family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain.

HENDERSON - Betty Wilson Davis, 66, a resident of 4291 Vicksboro Road, died Sunday at Maria Parham Hospital. She was a native of Rutherford County, the daughter of the late Lee R. and Minnie Hanes Wilson and the widow of Melvin Columbus Davis. She was a homemaker and member of the Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Central Baptist Church by the Rev. Alan McAlister. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Winston-Salem by the Rev. Ed Sears. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela D. Griffin of Henderson; a son, the Rev. Leroy Davis of Glen Allen, Va.; five brothers, Leonard Wilson, Lester Wilson and Howard Wilson, all of Lake Lure, Wade Wilson of Marion and Billy Wilson of Johnson City, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. The family will be at the home of Keith and Pam Griffin at 4291 Vicksboro Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Central Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 178, Henderson, NC 27536. Arrangements are by the J.M. White Funeral Home.

DONLEY

Mr. Damon Donley, 71, of Winston Salem, formerly of Richlands, Va., passed away Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, at his home following a short illness. Born in Marfrance, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert and Mary Harris Donley. He was a former employee of Southwest VA Metal Products Inc. Mr. Donley was a retired Central Shop Foreman with Island Creek Coal Co. and a member of the UMWA. He was a member of Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge 260 and past president of Richlands Kiwanis Club. Mr. Donley was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Winston Salem. He was a former Richlands police officer and member of Richlands Rescue Squad. He was co-founder and former owner of Clinch River Corp. and Donley Sports Shop. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carma Fletcher Donley. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and William Puckett of Richlands, Va.; a son, Jeff Donley of Knoxville, Tenn.; four brothers, James T. "Buddy" Donley of Winston Salem, Doug Donley and Bill Donley of Walkertown and Bernard Donley of Columbia, Mo.; three sisters, Christine Harmon, Bobbie Jean Yarborough and Aileen Enscore, all of Winston Salem; a granddaughter, Whittni Puckett of Richlands, Va.; a grandson, Nathaniel Donley of Knoxville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Va., with the Rev. Stafford Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV. Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Va. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes. Association, 1701 N. Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22314. Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff, Va., is serving the Donley Family.

GRUBBS

Mr. Harold William "Pete" Grubbs, 68, of Winston-Salem, passed away Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Jan. 8, 1933, in Forsyth County to Gray and Vera Grubbs. Mr. Grubbs was the owner of Grubbs Television & Sound Service, a business that he operated locally for 34 years. Surviving are his beloved companion, Jerrie B. Cox of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Kathy L. Grubbs of Winston-Salem; two sons, W. Tandy Grubbs of Deland, Fla. and Michael C. Grubbs of Winston-Salem; a brother, Gene Grubbs of Midway; and two sisters, Edith Segraves of Winston-Salem and Toby Joyce of Madison. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2001, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Robin Dixon Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Providence Moravian Church graveyard by the Rev. Arkon Stewart. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Trinity Friends Meeting, 819 Williams Road, Lewisville, NC 27023 and/or Providence Moravian Church, 929 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.

HANCOCK

Mr. Marion Daniel Hancock, 84, of 2716 Robinhood Road died Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, at his home. Mr. Hancock was born Oct. 5, 1917, to Wilburn Osteen Hancock and Lula King Hancock. He spent his early life in Bishopville, S.C., where he received his education. He worked for Export Leaf Tobacco as a buyer for over 50 years. Mr. Hancock was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, where he had served as an usher. Surviving are his wife, Billie Harmon Hancock of the home; two sons, Danny Hancock of Mooresville and Floyd Hancock of Walnut Cove; a daughter, Julie Hancock Donnelly of Raleigh; and six grandchildren, Rob, Nancy, James and Kerry Hancock and Sarah and Laura Donnelly. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roland Barnhardt officiating. The family will receive friends in the church foyer after the service. Interment will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Oakwood cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Radio Ministry of Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem, NC 27101.

HARRIS

Juanita Hester Harris, 88, died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at The Oaks at Forsyth. She was born March 22, 1913, to Rosa Seivers and Elijah Cornelius Hester in Forsyth County and was the youngest of 10 children. She was married to the late Gwyn Harris in 1929. She was an active member of Fairview Moravian Church, Ardmore Moravian Church and Home Moravian Church as long as her health allowed. Surviving are a daughter, Diane H. Wright and husband Larry; a son, Arlen G. Harris and wife Lois of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Follin A. Key and husband Ron of Providence, R.I., Captain R. Gwyn Armfield and wife Catherine of Fayetteville, Renee' H. Patterson and husband Richard and Christopher G. Harris and wife Kim of Winston-Salem; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel by the Rev. Scott Venable. Burial will follow in the Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Home Moravian Church, Box J, Salem Station, Winston-Salem, NC 27108; or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1205, Winston-Salem, NC 27102-1205.
