NORTH WILKESBORO - Mr. Ronnie D. Elmore, 47, of Mulberry Mill Road died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Feb. 5, 1954, in Wilkes County to Thomas Elmore and Shirley Billings Miles. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Kyle Elmore. Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Shirley and Walter Miles of North Wilkesboro; his father and stepmother, Thomas and Gina Elmore of Wilkesboro; three brothers, Kevin Dale Robinson of Mansfield, Ohio, Dennis Elmore of Statesville and Eddie Elmore of Stony Point; seven sisters, Erica Robinson of Raleigh, Kathy Elledge of Wilkesboro, Teresa VanMeter of Lawrenceville, Ga., Galene Staley and Patricia Brown, both of Wilkesboro, Ann Long of Davidson, Mich., and Amy Henshaw of Flint, Mich.; his maternal grandmother, Nellie Billings of North Wilkesboro; his paternal grandmother, Sterlie Elmore of Wilkesboro; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Miller Funeral Chapel, 180 Sparta Road, North Wilkes-boro, with the Rev. John T. Vannoy III and the Rev. Doug Triplett officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at Miller Funeral Service.

FAUSETT

ADVANCE - Mr. Floyd Fausett, 73, died Jan. 1, 2002, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1928, in Fulton County, Ga., to Floyd and Lucy Fant Fausett. Mr. Fausett was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, having served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He was retired from AT&T in Chicago with 35 years of service. He was a volunteer at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and received an award for outstanding volunteer. Mr. Fausett was a member of a Lutheran church in Chicago and was a Mason. He had five years service with the Davie County Sheriff's Office, attaining the rank of sergeant. He is survived by his wife, Anne Holston Fausett of the home; two sons; and four grand-children. A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at Hayworth-Miller Kinder-ton Chapel, with Mr. Bill Teague officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Kanab, Utah, 84741-5001. FLYNT

KERNERSVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Lilly Mae Johnson Flynt, 91, the widow of C. Clinard Flynt are rescheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Hayworth-Miller, Cain Chapel by Elder Wayne Gibbons. Burial will follow in Mount Gur cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Peggy and Wayne Gibbons, 154 Ray Lanning Road, Wallburg, NC 27373.

GORDON

KING - Mrs. Inez Rumley Gordon, 86, of King and Callahan, Fla., the widow of Howard Franklin Gordon, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, in Callahan, Fla. She was born in Forsyth County to Jerome Robert and Sallie Carmichael Rumley. Mrs. Gordon was retired from King Auto Parts. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Larry Arney of Callahan, Fla.; a brother, Roy Jerome "Bill" Rumley of Lexington; three grandchildren; seven great-grand-children; a great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Gordon was preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Rumley Doty, Bernice Rumley Keefer and Patty Carolyn Cameron; and three brothers, Lewis A. Rumley, Reeves A. Rumley and Ralph F. Rumley. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sat-urday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Cox-Need-ham Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Yates Wilkinson. The family will receive friends before the services from noon to 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Pinnacle United Methodist Church Cem-etery. The Gordon family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain.

HARRIS

Mr. Leroy Harris, 87, of 4911 Brian Center Lane and formerly of 1944 Lansing Drive, known as "Buster" and "Harry," passed away Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the Brian Center after a period of illness. He was born Sept. 17, 1909, in Lancaster, S.C., to the late Ransom and Patsy Harris. He lived in South Carolina in his earlier years and moved to Winston-Salem during his teen-age years. He was employed for years in several positions as a chauffeur, a taxi driver and a house painter, and was the owner of two gas stations. He owned Harry's Motors for more than 50 years. Harry leaves to cherish his memory a loving daughter and son-in-law, Audrey L. Stephens and Chief Warrant Officer Jerry W. Stephens of Virginia Beach, Va.; three granddaughters, Telma, Andrea and LaNiece Stephens of Virginia Beach, Va.; two great-grand-daughters; 10 nieces, Lizzie Mack, Sarah Craig, Larnette Mobley, Retha Anderson, Cecilia Johnston, Arlena Mobley, Annie Wedding-ton and Catherine Stinson, all of Charlotte and Carrie Chapman and Dorothy Robinson of Washington, D.C.; a nephew, Willie McDow of Charlotte; a longtime devoted friend, Thelma Foster of Virginia Beach, Va.; two very special friends, Harlena Wright and Doris Gray of Winston-Salem; and a host of other relatives, friends and well-wishers. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Theophilis Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. (Russell)

HUFFMAN

LEXINGTON - Mr. Wade Dallas Huffman, 74, of Mount Olivet Church Road died Thursday morning Jan. 3, 2002, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Nov. 17, 1927, in Davidson County to Jacob Curtis and Pearl Elizabeth Yountz Huffman. Mr. Huffman served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Arcadia Church of Christ. He retired from Reliance Universal (now AKZO Nobel) of High Point with more than 30 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Daisy W. Huffman of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Richard Brandon of Hillsborough; two grandsons, Richard Wade and Michael David Brandon; a brother and sister-in-law, Jasper and Dorothy Huffman of Lexington; three sisters, Pauline Craver and Kathleen Weaver, both of Lexington, and Addie Crotts and husband Clyde of Norfolk, Va. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Arcadia Church of Christ by Brother Jack Nance and Brother Bobby Leonard. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. Mr. Huffman will lie in state 30 minutes before the service at the church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Arcadia Church of Christ, 3448 Enterprise Road, Lexington, NC 27295; or to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. INGRAM

Mr. Fred Willis Ingram Sr. of 3841 Whitfield Drive departed this life Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 1, 2002, at his residence after an extended period of illness. He was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Atkins High School. He attended Russell's Business College and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Ingram was a retired mechanic from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was of the Baptist faith. Cherishing his memory are his wife of the home, Barbara Kelly Ingram; three children, Fred W. Ingram Jr. of Baltimore, Md., Michael (Sandra) Ingram and Valarie and devoted son-in-law, Kelvin Hazel, all of Winston-Salem; four sisters, Dallie M. Crosby of Newark, N.J., Helen (John) Brown of Palmer Park, Md., Annie M. Searcy of Inglewood, Calif., and Willie J. (Clarence) Simpson of Los Angeles; two aunts, Kathleen Little and Willa Little, both of Wadesboro; five grandchildren, Rodney Robinson of Bear, Del., Miracle Ingram and Ashley and Ashford Hazel, all of Winston-Salem, and Myae`sha Ingram of Baltimore; a goddaughter, Debra Henry of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Jacob) Allen of Raleigh and Patricia Kelly of Winston-Salem; extended family, Brenda R. (Royce) Burris and Lamont Robinson, all of Charlotte; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Homegoing services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Mount Zion Baptist Church, with Dr. Serenus T. Churn Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church and may be contacted at other times at the residence. (Hooper)

THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Johnilue Donna Kinney, 92, the wife of the late Curtis William Kinney, died Tuesday at the Thomasville Medical Center. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

MABE

Mr. Paul Harding Mabe, 81, died Monday evening, Dec. 31, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Stokes County on Nov. 4, 1920, to Claud and Lottie Glenn Mabe. Mr. Mabe served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, completing 70 missions as a radioman-gunner on a B-25 bomber. He was highly decorated, receiving the Air Medal with six oakleaf clusters, campaign ribbons from both the Asiatic and European theaters, two Bronze Service Stars and many other honors. He retired from Western Electric Co. in 1983 as a supervisor with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and was an avid golfer. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Curtis Mabe; and a nephew, Tommy Mabe. Surviving are his daughter, Suzanne Mabe Fennelly and her husband James; and his granddaughter, Devin Fennelly, all of Herndon, Va.; five stepchildren and their children. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, conducted by the Rev. J. Marion Rector. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown with military rites by the VFW District 11 Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Triad Location, 202 CentrePort Drive, Greensboro, NC 27409; or to the VFW District 11 Memorial Honor Guard, 4955 Gardenview Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.

MANRING

PINNACLE - Mr. Tony Dale Manring, 44, 1379 Tillotson Road, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2002. He was born March 13, 1957, in Forsyth County to Claude Washington and Mollie Darling Rominger Manring. Mr. Manring previously worked for Langinthal Industries. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church. He is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Betty Jo Hunt and husband Conard Lee of Pinnacle, Carolyn Kay Lawson of Pinnacle, Nancy Lois Shore of Rural Hall; a brother and sister-in-law, Claude Washington Manring Jr. and wife Judy of King; two nieces, Melissa Kay Tully and Angela Renee Hawks, both of Mount Airy; two nephews, Scottie Dale Manring of Pinnacle, and Robert Franklin Maurer Jr. of King. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Cox-Needham Funeral Home conducted by Elder Jimmy Lankford and the Rev. Brent Sawyers. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Volunteer Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The Manring family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home, Pilot Mountain.

NIFONG

LEXINGTON - Mr. Ira Lee Nifong, 90, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at his residence. He was born July 27, 1911, in Davidson County to Jessie Lee and Mary Williams Nifong. Mr. Nifong was a member of Arcadia United Methodist Church. He was a retired well driller and owned Arcadia Well Drillers. In his retirement, he raised guinea pigs and rabbits. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothea Tesh Nifong, and a sister, Willie "Bill" Disher. Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Craver and husband Kenneth; two sons, Grady Lee Nifong and Klynt Nifong and wife Gayle; a sister, Ila Mae Leonard, all of Lexington; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Arcadia United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alvin Pope officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, 524 S. State St., Lexington, NC 27292.

SPIVEY

RALEIGH - Mrs. Martha Burke Spivey, 71, died peacefully surrounded by her family Dec. 20, 2001, at the Stewart Health Center of the Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh. Mrs. Spivey, a loving wife, caring mother, thoughtful friend and devoted educator, had suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the past few years. She was born Dec. 22, 1929, in Winston-Salem and lived there most of her life. After graduating in the class of 1946 from Reynolds High School, she went to the Women's College in Greensboro (now UNCG), where she earned her bachelor's degree in physical education in 1950. She taught at Thomas Dale High School in Richmond, where she met and later married John Spivey. In 1956, they moved back to Winston-Salem, where she worked at the YWCA, teaching children to swim and directing the teen recreation programs. As an active member of Centenary Methodist Church, she taught in the children's Sunday school. In 1968, she joined the staff at the Summit School as a PE and science teacher. In 1974, she became head of the middle school at Summit. She retired in 1992 and shortly thereafter, fulfilled a lifelong dream when she moved to her home at Holden Beach. She spent the next several years volunteering, entertaining, traveling and enjoying her time divided between the beach and a condominium in Clemmons. Throughout her illness, she remained true to herself, always smiling and helping others, positive and caring, sweet and gentle. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, John; a son, John Jr.; and a grandson, John, all of Raleigh; her daughter, Laura Brothers and her husband, Bill; and her grand-daughters, Maddie and Sam, all of Arlington, Va.; her sister, Mrs. Joseph W. May of Winston-Salem; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, at Centenary United Methodist Church, 646 W. Fifth St., Winston-Salem. An inurnment service will begin at 11:30 at the church's columbarium. The memorial service will be held in the main sanctuary at noon. Family and friends are invited to gather in the church auditorium afterward to celebrate her life. The family asks that you bring any photos of Martha and add them to albums that will be assembled at that reception. These albums will serve as a lasting memento of her wonderful adventures with her many friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has established a memorial fund which will be used for recreational programs for underprivileged children. Donations may be sent to the Martha Spivey Memorial Children's Fund, c/o Bob Alger Edward Jones Investments Inc., 1210 Ridge Road Raleigh, NC 27607. Arrangements are being made by Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, St. Mary's Street, Raleigh.

STANLEY

JONESVILLE - Mrs. Clara Stanley, 64, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Stanley was born May 7, 1937, in Surry County to Brady Johnson Haynes and Annie Mae Vestal. She was retired from Sara Lee Corp. and was a member of Beck's Baptist Church. Mrs. Stanley was preceded in death by her father; and her husband, Carlos Vernon Joe Atwood. Survivors include her mother, Annie Mae Vestal of he home; two goddaughters, Beth Ladd and Teresa Alexander; and a special cousin, Betty Spainhour. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, by the Rev. Steve Swaim at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 4517 Little Mountain Road, Jonesville.

WEST

Mr. David Allen West, 81, of 809 Woodcrest Drive died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 6, 1920, in Winston-Salem to William Zebedee and Mary Eleanor VanHoy West. Mr. West was educated in Winston-Salem public school system, and lived all his life in Winston-Salem. He was secretary/ treasurer of Piedmont Leaf Tobacco, retiring in 1981. He was first married to Margaret Elizabeth Johnson on July 12, 1942, who preceded him in death. Mr. West served in World War II with the Army Air Corps and was honorably discharged as a master sergeant serving in Okinawa. He was a member Fairview Moravian Church. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Evelyn Whitney West; a daughter, Mrs. Sylvia Russell and husband Lester of Lewisville; a son, Gerald Allen West of Clemmons; two stepdaughters, Ann Marcus and Susan Crump; a grandson, Don Russell of Yadkinville; three stepgrandchildren, Elizabeth Marcus, Rives Crump and the Rev. David Allen Marcus Jr.; a sister, Virginia Poe of Winston-Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at Fairview Moravian Church by the Rev. Riddick Weber, the Rev. Herbert Weber the and Rev. David A. Marcus Jr. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may made to Fairview Moravian Church, 6550 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel is serving the family.

ABBOTT

THOMASVILLE - Mr. Lawrence "L.E." Elmer Abbott, 89, died Wednesday at Thomasville Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church. J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home is in charge of the arrange-ments.

AYERS

LEXINGTON - Lucille "Granny" Rhoades Ayers, 72, the wife of the late Levi Clayton Ayers, died Tuesday.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Piedmont Funeral Home.

BOWERS

LEWISVILLE - Mr. Daniel M. Bowers, 69, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, and went to be with his heavenly Father. He was born May 4, 1932, in Forsyth County to the late Orlinda M. and Amanda Doby Bowers. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 30 years of service. Mr. Bowers was a member of Huntsville Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Jane M. Bowers of the home; a daughter, Shelia (Michael) Lawson of Huntsville; a son, Danny (Cindy) Bowers of Midway; grandchildren Amanda Suzanne Jones, Miranda Bowers and Monica Bowers; sisters Mildred (James) Pollard and Doris (Leonard) Anders; and a brother, Moody (Virginia) Bowers. His funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Warren Kerr and Brother James Smith. He will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Shiloh Baptist Church cemetery in Hamptonville. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Huntsville Baptist Church Building Fund, Courtney Huntsville Road, Yadkinville, NC 27055. Gentry Family Funeral Service of Yadkinville is serving the family.
