JONESVILLE - Catherine Ann Hayes, 40, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Ms. Hayes was born April 10, 1961, in Forsyth County to Howard Lee and Carolyn Hayes. She was employed by Elkin Furniture Co. Survivors include her father, Howard Lee Hayes of East Bend; her mother, Carolyn Hayes of Pilot Mountain; a special friend and guardian, Terry Roberts of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Ann Roberts of the home; a son, Lerenzo Hayes of Jonesville; three sisters, JoAnn Snow and Betty Matthews, both of East Bend, and Donna Hayes of Dobson; a brother, Joshua Hayes of Clemmons; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service for Ms. Hayes will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Gospel Chapel, Boonville, with the Rev. Jonathan Casstevens and Rev. Casstevens officiating. She will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Gentry Family Funeral Service, 4517 Little Mountain, Road, Jonesville.

HOCKADAY

ADVANCE - Miss Susan Marie Hockaday, 42, of 908 N.C. Highway 801 N., died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at her home, surrounded by loved ones. She was born Dec. 7, 1959, in Forsyth County to Lester and Carolyn Scarlett Hockaday. Miss Hockaday was a member of Macedonia Moravian Church and was on the mission board. She was a health educator for the Davie County Health Department where she recently received the 2001 Outstanding Educator award. She was also active with the Red Cross, Hospice and the American Cancer Society. She is survived by her parents of the home; a sister, Anita Simkins and husband Timothy of Wake Forest; a brother, Mark Hockaday and wife Barbara of High Point; and four nieces and nephews, Joshua, Katelyn, Olivia and Chad. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Macedonia Moravian Church, with the Rev. Greg Little officiating. The family will receive friends at the home after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Davie County Health Dept., P.O. Box 848, Mocksville, NC 27028; Davie County Hospice, P.O. Box 848, Mocksville, NC 27028; or Macedonia Moravian Church Mission Fund, 700 N.C. Highway 801 N., Advance, NC 27006. Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel is serving the family.

HOUGH

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Hellen Shaw Hough, 93, of Sea Pines died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Hough was born in Charleston, S.C., and was the daughter of the late Edward Harrison and Fan Newman Shaw. She grew up in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of Holton Arms Academy. She married C. Royce Hough Jr. in 1936. Mr. and Mrs. Hough moved to Hilton Head Island in 1971 from Washington. Mrs. Hough was very active and a huge supporter of Hilton Head Humane Association for many years. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, C. Royce III and Harriet Hough of Winston-Salem; three grandsons, Michael (Amy) Hough and Ben (Ann) Hough, all of Winston-Salem and Mark Hough of Durham; and three great-grandchildren, Houston, Georgiana and Henry. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Royce Hough Jr. in 1996. A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church columbarium, with the Rev. Ed Ward officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hilton Head Humane Association, P.O. Box 21790, Hilton Head Island, SC 29925; or St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 50 Pope Ave., Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. The Island Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

HUNT

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth McGehee Hunt, 72, of 213 Montieu Ave. died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at High Point Regional Hospital. She was born April 13, 1929, in Stanley County, a daughter of Archie Lionel and Nancy Elizabeth Peacock McGehee. She earned a bach-elor's degree from High Point University. Mrs. Hunt was a member of Welch Memorial United Methodist Church and the Adult Bible Class Circle No. 1 Frances Henderson Circle. On Aug. 17, 1950, she married Raleigh Hunt who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Alice Elizabeth Hunt Wilson and husband Phillip of Granite Falls; a son, William Elliott Hunt and wife Susan of Greensboro; and a brother, Charles Vernon McGehee of Fayetteville. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, at Welch Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jim Martin. Visitation will be after the service. Memorials may be directed to Welch Memorial United Methodist Church, 2405 Bellemeade St., High Point, NC 27263. Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave., is serving the family.

HUTCHENS

YADKINVILLE - Grady Frank Hutchens, 77, died Tuesday at Forsyth Medical Center. Mackie-Reavis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JOHNSON

Mrs. Frankie Darlene Strickland Johnson, 35, of Pinnacle, the wife of Tony Lee Johnson Sr., died Tuesday at J.R. Jones Medical Center in King. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Cox-Needham Funeral Home.

KENNY

WOODLAWN, Va. - Pauline Jones, 84, passed away Sunday. Survivors include a daughter, Laura Jean Leath of Clemmons, and her children, Clay, Sherry and Allen and Ginger and her husband Jason Moore; and a great-grandson, Troy Moore. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn United Meth-odist Church. Internment will follow in the church cemetery.

MARRS

Katie Hill Marrs, 95, left us to be with God on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002. She was a native of Winston-Salem. She was a member of Forrest Hills Baptist Church in Winston-Salem and a member of Rebekkah Lodge for more than 75 years. Mrs. Marrs was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Marrs. Survivors include her four children, Joanne B. Norcutt and husband Lonnie C. Norcutt of Newport News, Va., John Robert Bouton and wife Lois of West Palm Beach, Fla., Lois Nance of Marshville and Norma Kiker and husband Luther of Indian Trails; two sisters, Virginia Thomas of Polkton and Dorothy Thompson of Fort Pierce, Fla.; her brother, Burnie Hill of Birmingham, Ala.; several grandchildren, including Tracy E. and Kelly M. Norcutt; many great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Thursday evening at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel.

MILLER

HAMPTONVILLE - Mrs. Beulah Shore Miller, 94, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Willowbrook Health Care. She was born May 13, 1907, in Yadkin County to the late Frank and Ither Reinhardt Shore. Mrs. Miller was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Sidney Gaither Miller. Surviving are two sons, L.F. (Pat) Miller and Lester (Jerrie) Miller of Hamptonville; two daughters, Mrs. Nola (O.L.) Turbiville of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Azelyne (Herbert) Collins of Hickory; three sisters, a twin sister, Mrs. Eulah Church and Mrs. Frankie Critz, both of Hamptonville, and Mrs. Lillie Buff of Charlotte; a brother, Roby Shore of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller also was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Chester Shore. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Cannon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, Flat Rock Church Road, Hamptonville. The family would like to thank the staff at Willowbrook Healthcare and the Alzheimer's Unit for all help and support.

PRUITT

WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Mary Evelyn Campbell Pruitt, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 14, 1911, in Stokes County, the daughter of the late Christopher Columbus and Mary Ella Campbell. Mrs. Pruitt was a homemaker and a member of Isom Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her husband, Ranzy E. Pruitt; a daughter, Doris Linville; and a son, James Campbell. Surviving are three daughters, Carol Pruitt of the home, Lynn Duggins of Winston-Salem and Linda Collins of Belews Creek; two sons, Bobby Pruitt of Walnut Cove and Billy Joe Pruitt of the home; eight grandchildren, Timothy Pruitt, Harold Pruitt, Tony Pruitt, Alvin Duggins, Randy Warden, Amy Acord, Pam Warden and Mary Ann Pruitt; and 14 great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan.18, 2002, at Isom Baptist Church cemetery, with the Rev. Chester Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel.

RODERMUND

LEXINGTON - Vina Powell Rodermund, 97, the wife of the late Carl W. Rodermund, died Sunday at National Health Care in Columbia, S.C. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Davidson Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

ROGERS

CLAUDVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Vadie A. Rogers, 83, of Red Bank School Road, the wife of Welbert Harvey Rogers, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Surry Community Nursing Center in Mount Airy, N.C. Mrs. Rogers was born July 9, 1918, in Patrick County, Va., to the Albert Dellgreen and Laura Adeline Quesinberry Vipperman. She was a homemaker, a retired hairdresser and a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Welbert Harvey Rogers; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianna and Ronald White of Pilot Mountain and Wilma and Gary Heath of Claudville; three grandchildren and spouses, Deana Heath and Gary Delane and Amy Heath, all of Mount Airy, and Melanie and Eric Beasley of Claudville; three great-grandchildren, Caleb Christopher, Isabelle Beasley and Jackson Delane Heath; three sisters, Fenton Ashburn of Walnut Cove, Faith Puckett of Hillsville, Va. and Glennis Hensley of Ararat, Va.; and four brothers, Burton Montgomery of Pilot Mountain, Alton Montgomery of Roanoke, Va., Walton Montgomery of Newport News, Va., and Philgene Montgomery of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by two brothers, Arlis Vipperman and Layton Montgomery. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Bethel Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Barry Clement, the Rev. Jimmy Kirkman and the Rev. Rayton Puckett. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy, where her body will remain until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the funeral service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Bethel Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 4016 Claudville Highway, Claudville, VA 24076.

TAYLOR

SANDY RIDGE - Mr. Spotwood Alexander Taylor, 81, of 2074 Beasley School Road died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Stokes-Reynolds Hospital. The funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Mayo Baptist Church, Spencer, Va. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Taylor was born in Henry County, Va. He was a member of Mayo Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was retired from farming and Fieldcrest Mills Inc. in Fieldale, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, German and Mamie Pratt Taylor; his former wife, Sybil Parlier Taylor; a granddaughter, Ashley Taylor; and a stepgrandson, patrick Hylton. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hill Hylton Taylor of the home; sons Marvin Taylor and wife Martha of Winston-Salem and Samuel Taylor and wife Linda of Durham; daughters Lillie Kendrick and husband J.W. of Spencer, Va. and Jeanie T. Mann and husband Robert of Martinsville, Va.; a stepson, V.S. Hylton and wife Cheryl of Greensboro; a stepdaughter, Martha Taylor and husband Marvin of Winston-Salem; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at Colonial Funeral Home, Madison, and other times at the residence in Sandy Ridge and the home of Jeanie Mann, 97 Hickory Ridge, Martinsville, Va. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stokes County, P.O. Box 10, Danbury, NC 27016.

WEAVER

Mrs. Ann E. Weaver, formerly of 125 Ferrell Heights Court, Apt. 239, Winston-Salem, passed away Jan. 12, 2002, at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 22, 1928, in Forsyth County to the late Bynum and Judy Jarrett. She lived the majority of her life in Winston-Salem. She was a 1946 graduate of Atkins High School and was a presser by trade for 31 years. She was a member of Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Monroe Weaver Sr.; and two brothers, Mr. John and Charles Jarrett. She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Monroe Weaver Jr. of Chesapeake, Va.; two grandchildren, Emmanuel Weaver of Virginia Beach, Va., and Talitha M. Weaver of Washington; two sisters, Ruby (Nathaniel) Hines and Mary Jane Henderson, both of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Arthur (Angela) Jarrett of Chesapeake, Va., and Robert (Claudette) Jarrett of Lexington; an aunt, Ms. Mattie B. Wheeler, and a sister-in-law, Pauline Perry, both of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, Louis Weaver of Richmond.; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at Goler Memorial AME Zion Church. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Evergreen cemetery. (Brown)

MOCKSVILLE - Mrs. Pearlena B. White, 78, died Jan. 14, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. She is survived by two sons, Harold Gene White Sr. of Rock Hill, S.C., and Leonard White of Simpsonville, S.C.; and three daughters, Gladys Scott of Mocksville and Wanda Canty and Lula Mae Ross, both of Rock Hill. The body may be viewed from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Graham Funeral Home in Mocksville. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19, at Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Rock Hill, S.C.

BAHNSON

Dr. E. Reid Bahnson, 84, of Salemtowne the Moravian Retirement Community, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Oct. 28, 1917, in Winston-Salem to Frederic Fries Bahnson and Blecker Reid Bahnson. He attended Central School, South Junior High School, Reynolds High School, Davidson College and was graduated from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1938, Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Bahnson attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and was graduated in 1942 receiving the Alumni Medal for the highest academic average. He was a member of AOA Medical Fraternity. Dr. Bahnson served his internship and medical residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He was a medical officer in the U.S. Navy from July 1943 until May 1946, serving in the South Pacific. Dr. Bahnson began practice of internal medicine in Winston-Salem September 1948. In February 1976 he became the medical director of Winston-Salem Health Care Plan Inc., retiring in October 1983. He served as medical director of Piedmont Airlines from 1952 until 1987, was the former president of Forsyth County Medical Society and was president of the medical staff at City Memorial Hospital in 1964. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, president of the North Carolina Orchid Society, a member of the board of directors of the American Rhododendron Society (1990-91), of the Piedmont Chapter, president of the North Carolina Botanical Garden Foundation , a lifelong member of Home Moravian Church, a member of the Board of World Missions of the Moravian Church and served on the board of directors of the Moravian Home. He was a founding director of Trout Unlimited. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise Adler Bahnson of the Salemtowne Community; a daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Bahnson Halajian and husband Kenneth of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; a son, Edward Reid Bahnson Jr. and wife Diane of Girdwood, Alaska; two grandchildren Michael Reid Halajian and Samuel John Halajian; and a brother, Dr. Henry T. Bahnson of Pittsburgh, Pa. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Home Moravian Church by the Rev. Lehoma Goode and Dr. Robert Sawyer. Burial will follow in the Moravian Graveyard. Visitation will be in the Living Room of the Vogler Building at Moravian Salemtowne from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16. Please use the Bethabara Park Boulevard entrance. Memorials may be given to NC Botanical Garden of the University of NC at Chapel Hill, CB 3375 Totten Center, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-3375 or to the charity of the donor's choice.

BENNETT

Mrs. Shirley Clayton Bennett, 67, died at her home Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, following a long period of declining health. A native of Orlando, Fla., she was born Nov. 13, 1934, to the late Gray Grover and Gertrude James Clayton. Mrs. Bennett was owner/operator of the Lady Fair Beauty Salon in Winston-Salem from 1972 to 1991, when she moved her shop into her home. She was a member of the Shiloh United Methodist Church, Baux Mountain Road, Winston-Salem. Mrs. Bennett is survived by two sons, Kenneth Lee Bennett, of the home and Charles Ricky Bennett and wife, Gail, of Walkertown; two grandchildren, Misty B. Ward and husband, Robby, of Rural Hall and Leiah A. Bennett of Walkertown; two great-grandchildren, Landon D. Ward and Grayson L. Ward; a sister, Barbara C. Yates; and a brother, John G. Clayton and wife, Dorothy, all of Stanleyville. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, at the Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel, with the Rev. Douglas H. Butler officiating. Burial will be in the Clayton Family cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 this evening at the funeral home.
