BLACKMON

Mr. Dewey Lester Blackmon, 76, of Edgar Street died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, in Forsyth Medical Center. He was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Alamance County, a son of Marshall Dewey and Dola Irene Woods Blackmon. He was retired from Western Electric and a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Blackmon was a member of Parkview Church of God and Men's Fellowship and was a Sunday-school superintendent for 15 years. He was active in mission work in several countries. He was also a member of the Pioneer Club at Western Electric and a member and leader in the National Full Gospel Men's Fellowship. He was married to Virginia Stewart Blackmon. She died Dec. 12, 1997. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Sibel Walters and Mrs. Alice B. Miller and husband, Lewis, all of Graham; and many nieces and nephews. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Lawrence Ownbey, the Rev. Gary Thompson and the Rev. Ken Barnett. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Alamance Memorial Park cemetery in Burlington. The body will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, 10301 N. N.C. 109, Winston-Salem, and the family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.

BURKE

CLEMMONS - Mr. Michael V. Burke, 23, of Denni Court died Saturday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be Friday, Jan. 18, in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is in charge of arrangements.

BURNETTE

Mrs. Frances Hewett Burnette, 76, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Oct. 7, 1925, to Charlie A. and Addie Simmons Hewett. She was born and raised in Clarendon in Columbus County, of Route 1 Molley Community. Mrs. Burnette was retired from Hanes Knitting and Kings Department Store. She was a member of Rosemont Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Eldred Burnette of the home; three daughters, Brenda Laxton and husband Marvin of Statesville, Kathy Harrell and husband David of Lewisville and Janet Ridings and husband Michael of Pfafftown; two sons, Jerry Burnette and wife Patricia of Winston-Salem and Mitchael Burnette and wife Pat of Yorktown, Va.; 9 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Dr. Gary Norris and the Rev. Curtis Whaley officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

DOBSON

Mrs. Dorothy Scott Dobson, 79, of Winston-Salem died Monday. Funeral services are incomplete. Beasley's Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

DOROW

LINWOOD - Mrs. Linda Paulette "Polly" Dorow, 55, the wife of Eurwin A. Dorow Sr., died Monday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Hilltop Living Center. J.C. Green & Sons Inc, Thomasville, is in charge of arrangements.

GREENE

WALNUT COVE - Mrs. Helen Rebecca White Greene, 71, died Tuesday at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Greene was born June 10, 1930, in Stokes County to the late Edd and Mamie Kiser White. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Gospel Baptist Church in Germanton. Survivors include her husband, William C. Greene of the home; three daughters, Rebecca Alquezada of Frankfort, Ind., Debbie Smith and husband Paul of Winston-Salem and Carolyn Lawson and husband Phil of Lawsonville; a son, Roger and wife Mary Norman Greene of Walnut Cove; five grandchildren, Lyle Greene, Molly Dolan, Will Lawson and Hanna and Dallas Alquezada. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Burroughs Funeral Home. With the Rev. Darrell Hampton and the Rev. Jerry Manuel officiating. Burial will follow in Walnut Cove cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the home.

GRUBBS

DALLAS, Texas - Mr. Clarence E. Grubbs, 84, a native of Walnut Cove and the husband of Lillie Grubbs, died Dec. 26, 2001. A celebration of life was held Jan. 5, at Trinity Lutheran Fellowship Hall in Dallas. Bollman Funeral Home of Dallas handled the arrangements.

HAUBER

ST. JAMES - Mrs. Monica S. Hauber, 49, of 4408 Gauntlet Drive died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Duke Medical Center in Durham. A memorial service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, 2002, at the St. James Plantation Chapel in St. James. Mrs. Hauber was born Feb. 10, 1952, in Westchester County, N.Y., a daughter of Jorge Senosiain and the late Una Britt Christina Olson and moved to St. James in 1994. Survivors include her husband, David Hauber of the home; a son, Michael Jacobs of Charleston, S.C.; two daughters, Christina Jacobs of Durham and Stephanie Jacobs of Winston-Salem; a stepdaughter, Stacie Hauber Hall and husband Glen of Gastonia; her father, Jorge Senosiain of Sao Paulo, Brazil; a sister, Bettina Siwek and husband Enrique of Montevideo, Uruguay; two brothers, Albert Senosiain of Miami and Richard Senosiain and wife Paula of Sao Paolo, Brazil; and a grandchild, Matthew Hall of Gastonia. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. James Fire Department Emergency Squad, Town of St. James, 3628 St. James Drive, St. James, NC 28461, Attn: Fire Department Emergency Squad. Funeral services for Ms. Brenda Joyce Jones of 1445 Woodland Ave. will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Waughtown Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Bishop officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery. The family visitation will be from 1 to 1:30 p.m. today at the church. (Russell)

KYE

Mr. Lee Edward Kye Sr., 85, of 215 Brookline St., died Tuesday morning at Forsyth Medical Center. Graveside services will be held at noon Thursday at Parklawn Memorial Gardens by the Rev. Ernest Parks. Mr. Kye was born in Davidson County, Nov. 17, 1916, a son of Oscar Clarence and Myrtle Sink Kye. He was a member of Freeman Street Baptist Church, was a self-employed house painter and did a lot of volunteer work in the community. Surviving are his wife, Juanita Palmer Kye of the home; a son, Lee Kye Jr. and wife Penny of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Patsy Bolling and her husband, Larry of Winston-Salem and Linda Goodman and her husband, Bruce of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Bryan Bolling and Shannon Walker, both of Winston-Salem; and three great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel and requests that any memorials be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

ADVANCE - Mr. Ralton Eugene "Gene" Lee, 77, the husband of Laura Smith Lee, died Sunday at Forsyth Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Yadkin Valley Baptist Church cemetery. Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

LEWIS

WALKERTOWN - Mr. David Henry Lewis Jr., 74, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Walkertown, a son of the late David Henry Lewis Sr. and Rebecca Southern Lewis. He was a veteran of World War II and served in Europe. Mr. Lewis was a retiree of Western Electric (later Lucent Technologies) after 30 years service. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 36 in Kernersville and Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Lewis was a member of Oak Summit United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Ingram Lewis, of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marsha and Monty Honeycutt of Greensboro and Lisa and Tom Porter of Belews Creek; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Claire Holbrook, of Richmond, Va.; three sisters, Kathryn Dean and Ella Walker, both of Walkertown, and Jane Bradshaw of Buford, Ga.; a brother, Gerald Lewis, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Lesley Holbrook, Melanie Holbrook and Will Holbrook, all of Richmond, Va., and Bryan Porter of Belews Creek; and two great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Holbrook and Amanda Holbrook, both of Richmond, Va. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown by the Rev. Tom Southern and the Rev. Patrick Hamrick of Oak Summit United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home in Kernersville. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 25086, Winston-Salem, NC 27114.

MILLER

HAMPTONVILLE - Mrs. Beulah Shore Miller, 94, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Willowbrook Health Care. She was born May 13, 1907, in Yadkin County to the late Frank and Ither Reinhardt Shore. Mrs. Miller was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church in Hamptonville. She was preceded in death by her late husband of 53 years, Sidney Gaither Miller. Surviving are two sons, L.F. (Pat) Miller and Lester (Jerrie) Miller of Hamptonville; two daughters, Mrs. Nola (O.L.) Turbiville of Lakeland, Fla., and Mrs. Azelyne (Herbert) Collins of Hickory; three sisters, a twin sister, Mrs. Eulah Church and Mrs. Frankie Critz, both of Hamptonville, and Mrs. Lillie Buff of Charlotte; a brother, Roby Shore of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Miller also was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Chester Shore. Her funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Flat Rock Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Cannon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Flat Rock Baptist Church Building Fund, Flat Rock Church Road, Hamptonville. The family would like to thank the staff at Willowbrook Healthcare and the Alzheimer's Unit for all help and support.

MITCHELL

Mr. George Henry Mitchell, 73, the husband of Margaret Smith Mitchell, died Sunday at Forsyth Medical Center. No services are planned. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek is in charge of arrangements.

MOUTOS

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Maria Hamberis Moutos, wife of the late Frank Moutos, departed this earthly life Jan. 14, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1914, to Chris and Vasiliki Hamberis in Klafsion, Karpenisi, Greece. Upon her husband's discharge from the U.S. Army, they owned and operated Corbin's Café on Trade Street for 35 years. She is survived by two sons, Tom Moutos and wife, Virginia, and Chris Moutos and wife, Irene; and a daughter, Elizabeth Vlasis and husband, George. She was blessed with 10 grandsons, John (Helen), Fred (Janine), Mike (Caroline), Tony and Stephen Vlasis, Fred, George (Stamey), Timothy (Tammy) Moutos and Frank and Stuart Moutos. Her pride and joy were her nine great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Dean, Stephanie, James and George Vlasis, Chris, Samuel and Matthew Moutos, and Chris Moutos. Also surviving are a nephew, Chris Hamberis, who held a special place in her heart; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Moutos never met a stranger and was a special "Yiayia" (grandmother) to all. Language was never a barrier for her. Mrs. Moutos was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church until her death. She was also a member of the Philoptochos Ladies Society and Daughters of Evrytania. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, with a Trisagion Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church, 435 Keating Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27104. Funeral services will be conducted at the church at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, with Father Demetri Kangelaris, Father Dennis Canavos, Father George Kiricoples and Father George Vlahos officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Greek Orthodox Church. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family.

MURPHY

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. - Cliffa Jean "Kitten" Murphy, 56, of Mallory Avenue died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2002, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Born April 13, 1945, in Morganton, she was the daughter of the late Cliffton A. and Louise Sparks Causby. Mrs. Murphy was a seamstress. Surviving are her husband, Johnny Lee Murphy; sons Johnny Dale Murphy and wife, Debbie, of Clemmons and Dustin O'Brian Murphy and wife, Crystal, of Murrells Inlet; a granddaughter, Allyson Nicole Murphy, of Lenoir; brothers Tommy Causby and Roy Causby, both of Lenoir, and Freddie Causby of Conover; sisters Myrtle Green, of Wilkesboro, Judy Wise Causby, Meldonna Grey and Sue Hollifield, all of Conover, Debbie Cloer of Hudson, Mary Bentley of Lenoir, Teresa Ryder and Linda Christopher, both of Hickory, and Dianne Hamby of Morganton; 34 nieces and nephews; her stepmother, Ruby Freeman, of Crossnore; and stepbrothers Bobby Winters of Lenoir and Johnny Winters of Crossnore. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Springmaid Pier, Myrtle Beach. Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

NUNEZ

LEWISVILLE - Mrs. Marina "Wita" Nunez, 95, died early Monday morning, Jan. 14, 2002, at her home. She was born June 18, 1906, in Tampa, Fla., to Antonio and Mercedes Rios Castillo. Mrs. Nunez formerly resided in Armonk, N.Y., and was preceded in death by her husband, Domingo Nunez; and a son, Jaen Nunez; and a grandson, Thomas Schmidt. Surviving are a son, Augustine Farina, of Texas; and a daughter, Gloria Schmidt, of Lewisville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Harmony Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. David Cook. Burial will be in Colon cemetery in Tampa, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony Grove United Methodist Church, 5041 Styers Ferry Road, Lewisville, NC 27023; or Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the Nunez family.

PALMER

HIGH POINT - Mr. Gilmer Fount Palmer, 73, a resident of 1726 N.C. Highway 62 W., died Jan. 14, 2002, at the High Point Regional Hospital. He was born Sept. 1, 1928 in Stokes County, a son of the late Walter and Ella Durham Palmer. A resident of High Point for the past 61 years, Mr. Palmer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired in December 1992 from the Guilford County Sheriff's Department. He was also a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church. On June 7, 1947, he married the former Myriam VonCannon, who survives of the residence. Also surviving are three daughters, Martha Craven and husband, Gary, Sandra Ridge and husband, Joe, and Jane Stout and husband, Mitch; three brothers, Jack Palmer of Winston-Salem, Bill Palmer of High Point and Bob Palmer of Archdale; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Jean Palmer; and a brother, Jerry Dean Palmer. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield United Methodist Church by the Rev. Neal Brower and the Rev. Eugene Dean. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will remain at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, and will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence. Pallbearers will be Joey Ridge, Evan Craven, Lyn Craven, Chris England, Scott Dunbar and Dave Baker. The Guilford County Sheriff's Department Honor Guard will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 202 Centreport Drive, Suite 100, Greensboro, NC 27409.
