MOCKSVILLE - Lizzie Kate "Katie" Ijames, 63, the wife of John L. Ijames, died Tuesday at Forsyth Medical Center. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Clement Grove Church of God, Mocksville. Graham Funeral Home, Mocksville, is in charge of arrangements.

JONES

ADVANCE - Mr. William Maynard Jones, 71, of Fork-Bixby Road died Friday at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Fork Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Queen and the Rev. Lanny Atkins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home in Mocksville from 7 to 9 Saturday night. They request memorials be considered for Fork Baptist Church, US Highway 64 E., Mocksville, NC 27028; or Advance Baptist Church, NC Highway 801 N., Advance, NC 27006. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Mr. Jones was born Aug. 20, 1930, in Davie County, a son of the late Alex Lillington and Bertha Foster Jones. He was a tobacco farmer and landscaper, as well as a lifelong member of Fork Baptist Church. Mr. Jones enjoyed growing large gardens and giving his vegetables away to the community and spending quality time with his family. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Renae Ridenhour, of Advance; a son, Larry "Casey" Jones and wife, Dawna, of Advance; two sisters, Addie Mae Walser and Magdalene Stroud, of Advance; two brothers, Wade Jones and Ray Jones, both of Advance; his former wife, Betty Jones Graham, of Mocksville; and three grandchildren, Adam Ridenhour, Jeffrey Jones and Christopher Jones. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clyde, Bonce, Fred and Gray Jones; and two sisters, Alma Williams and Nell Bailey.

KING

PFAFFTOWN - Mrs. Olive Bowles King, 76, died at her home early Friday morning, Feb. 1, 2002, following a period of declining health. A native of Watauga County, she was born Oct. 11, 1925, to Jones Robert and Bettie Caroline Triplett. She was preceded in death by her father in 1968; her mother in 2001; her first husband, Junior C. Bowles, in 1981; and a granddaughter, Samantha Parkes in 1999. Mrs. King was a member of Bible Baptist Church. Surviving are three daughters, Pat Reece and husband Rodney of High Point, Gerry King and husband Jack of Pfafftown and Barbara Bowles of Rural Hall; four grandchildren, Joey Reece, Lavonda Duncan and husband Robert, all of High Point, Darrell Reed of Rural Hall and Daniel Parkes of Low Gap; six great-grandchildren, Joel Reece, Amanda and Melia Duncan, Dusty Parkes, Brandon Perrell and Kaly Parkes; two sisters, Georgia Hampton and Marilyn Rush, both of Boone; two brothers, Claude Triplett of Boone and Larry Triplett of Lenoir; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2002, at the Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel,with Pastor Don Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Sunday evening at Mrs. King's home. (Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel is serving the family.)

MYERS

Mrs. Ruby Myers, 61, of Jones Road died Thursday, Jan. 31, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Born in Forsyth County Feb. 4, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Webster Lee and Fannie Church Whisenhunt. She was formerly employed by Blackwater Manufacturing in Mocksville and was a member of Heaven Bound Full Gospel Church. Mrs. Myers is survived by her husband, Ernest Myers; a daughter, Kathy Myers of Winston-Salem; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Dianne Whisenhunt, James Ray and Debbie Whisenhunt and Richard Louis and Donna Whisenhunt, all of Mocksville; and two grandchildren, Jonathan Lee Myers and Courtney Elizabeth Myers, both of Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William Franklin "Dick" Whisenhunt and Robert Wesley Whisenhunt. Funeral services for Mrs. Mrs. Myers will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Davie Funeral Service Chapel Inc., Mocksville ,with the Rev. James Ward and the Rev. Billy Seats officiating. Burial will be at Woodland cemetery in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon today at the funeral home and other times at their respective homes. Memorials may be made to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Davie Funeral Service Inc., 416 Valley Road, Mocksville, is serving the family of Mrs. Myers.

NISTON

YADKINVILLE - Mr. John Willard Niston, 65, of Taft Street, husband of Mrs. Arlene Key Niston, died at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Friday, Feb. 1, 2002. Mr. Niston was born April 8, 1936, in Grayson County, Va., to the late Robert Allen and Ora Geneva Cockerham Niston. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Correction and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Arlene K. Niston of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall Willard and Peggy S. Niston of Yadkinville; two grandchildren and a spouse, John Randall Niston and Michael Chad and Rhonda B. Cleary, all of Yadkinville; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mae Southern, Kay and Kenneth Thomas and Lois Vernon, all of Mount Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, the Rev. Gary and Jackie Niston and Steve and Diane Niston, all of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Niston was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Robert Niston; two brothers, Simon Niston and Roosevelt Niston; and two brothers-in-law, Zeb Vernon and Joe Southern. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy conducted by the Rev. Lester R. Bryant and the Rev. Phil Kelly. Burial will follow in the Salem United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Sunday night at the funeral home where his body will remain until the hour of the funeral service.

PINKSTON

LAKE CITY, Fla. - Mr. Wilford Pinkston, 82, formerly of Winston-Salem, passed away Jan. 31, 2002, in Lake City. He was born in Davidson County to Emma and Wilford Pinkston. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice; and his son, Kevin. Surviving are a brother, Sherwood Pinkston (Arlene) of Mooresville; a sister, Emma Lou Satterfield of Lake City, Fla.; a daughter, Susie Brenan (Bert) of Greensboro; a niece, Sandra P. Gamble (Ron); and a nephew, Ronnie Pinkston. He was a veteran of World War II, Pearl Harbor and the Korean War. Burial will be Saturday, Feb. 2, at Veterans National cemetery, Bushnell, Fla.

RANSON

Mr. Clyde Earnest Ranson, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born Nov. 18, 1925, to Helen Mabel Weavil and Earnest Hobert Ranson in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Ranson was a Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, and he was an active member of the American Legion. He was a founding member and active participant in the Tarheel Cutlery Club, as well as a board member of the National Knife and Cutlery Association. Mr. Ranson was commissioned a Kentucky colonel by Gov. Julian M. Carroll in September 1977. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Imogene Quesinberry Ranson; a sister, Iris Wright (James) of Winston-Salem; a son, John Clyde Ranson (Leslie) of Terrell; and a grandson, Robert Sebastian Hubbard (Theresa) of Wake Forest. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, 2002, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, 1100-C S. Stratford Road Wins-ton-Salem NC 27103.

SHEETS

KING - Mr. John Douglas Sheets, 56, died Friday morning at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Vogler & Son's Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Ronnie Baity and the Rev. Rodney Matthews. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Mr. Sheets was born in Hampton, Va., April, 26, 1945, son of John C. and Mary Glidewell Sheets. He lived most of his life in Winston-Salem and attended New Life Church. Surviving are his wife, Billie Jean Hutchens Sheets of the home; a sister, Frances Charles and her husband, Richard; a brother, Neil Sheets and his wife, Betty; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

JEFFERSON - Mr. Glen Taylor, 89, the husband of Bessie Taylor, died Friday. The funeral will be at 8 p.m. Saturday at Badger Funeral Home, West Jefferson.

TEMPLE

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Berniece Lea Brady Temple, 85, the wife of the late George Allen Temple, died Friday at Sunbridge of Lexington. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Alliance Church. Davidson Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.

TILLMAN

Mrs. Beatrice Holman "Ava" Tillman, 62, of East Devonshire Street, Winston-Salem died Jan. 30 at her home. She was a native of Davie County and a member of Redland Church of Christ. She is survived by a brother, Neely Frank Holman of Salisbury; and four sisters, Eva H. Turner of Statesville, Edmonia H. Hollis of Mocksville, Mary Holman of Trump Rehabilitation Center, Jamaica, N.Y., and Nellie Ramseur of Salisbury. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home, Mocksville with Minister William Latten officiating. Burial will be at Palmetto Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service. Graham Funeral Directors is serving the family.

WELBORN

YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Sarah Ineze Hinson Welborn, 94, formerly of Hamptonville, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, at Willowbrook Healthcare Center. Inez Welborn was born May 5, 1907, in Yadkin County to Marion and Nancy Sims Hinson. She was a graduate of Yadkinville High School class of 1929 and was the former owner and operator of Welborn's Snack Bar and Motel. Inez was a devoted mother and homemaker and was a faithful charter member of the West Yadkin Baptist Church. She was a longtime member of the Yadkin County Home Demonstration Club and first president of the West Yadkin Chapter. Inez was an active member of the West Yadkin Quilting Club and active in and supportive of the Yadkin County Senior Center and a active member of VFW Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Pearl Branon, Leona Myers and Collie Hinson; two brothers, Claude Hinson and Weaver Hinson. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Nancy Wagoner and husband Larry of Hamptonville, Mrs. Jo Dorsett and husband Tommy of Yadkinville, Mrs. Nell Vickers and husband Larry of Hamptonville and Mrs. Ann Nicks and husband Ricky of Clemmons; two sons, Mr. Marion Welborn and wife Jewell and Mr. Watt Welborn and wife Blanche, all of Boonville; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Beulah Saunders of Harmony. The funeral service for Mrs. Welborn will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 3, at West Yadkin Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Bell and the Rev. Kenny Gooden. Mrs. Welborn will lie in state from 3 to 3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service at Flat Rock Baptist Church cemetery, Hamptonville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Gentry Family Funeral Home, 5108 U.S. Highway 601 N., Yadkinville. Flowers will be accepted but memorials may be made to West Yadkin Baptist Church, P.O. Box 58, c/o Roy Walker, Hamptonville, NC 27020. The family wishes to thank the care- givers at Willowbrook Nursing Center for their care of Mrs. Welborn.

DOBSON - Mr. Ivan Gale White, 57, the husband of Brenda Jarrell White, died Thursday at his home. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem Fork Baptist Church. Moody Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BEAMON

ADVANCE - Mrs. Octavia Church Beamon, 87, of Granada Drive died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. James Ward and the Rev. Martin Kastner officiating. Burial will be in Advance Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. The family requests that memorials be considered for the Davie County chapter of the American Heart Association, c/o Mrs. Patty Lookabill, BB&T, 119 Gaither St., Mocksville, NC 27028. Mrs. Beamon was born April 14, 1914, in Wilkes County to the late Armfield and Mary Alverta Kilby Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, quilting working jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Shewas of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Franklin Beamonin, in 1997; a son, David Beamon; three sisters; and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Camilla B. Loftin; two sons, Franklin Monroe Beamon and James Roger Beamon, all of Advance; four grandchildren four great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; a sister, Faye Lambert of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews.

BOSTIC

Mrs. Doris Fowlkes Bostic, the wife of James Bee Bostic, her beloved husband of 49 years, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Bostic had retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after spending more than 44 years of teaching middle-school students her favorite subject: Math! She was a well-respected and true teaching professional who brought genuine credibility and creative learning experiences to her students. Teaching was her joy! She was born in Providence to the late Robert Samuel and Betty Moss Fowlkes. She graduated from Greensboro College with a bachelor's degree in education. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Rob" Bostic and Karen Satterfield Bostic; and two wonderful grandchildren, Lindsay and Matthew, all of Clemmons. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Thursday evening at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC., 27103; or the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407.

NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Lessie Hayes Brown, 79, the wife of James "Jim" W. Brown, Elkin Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Liberty Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. David Sparks and the Rev. Kenneth Wiles officiating. Burial will be in Mountlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Brown was born in Wilkes County, Sept. 30, 1922, to Joe P. and Sarah Jane Rhoades Hayes. She was a member of Liberty Grove Baptist Church. Mrs. Brown was the owner and operator of Jim Brown's Service Station. Mrs. Brown was preceded in the death by a son, James W. Brown Jr. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Brown is survived by a daughter, Linda Walsh of Hays; a son, Terry Brown of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Larmie Pendry of Hays; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in North Wilkesboro from 6 to 8 Friday night. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Wilkes, P.O. NORTH WILKESBORO - Mrs. Cenie "Brick" Chambers, 85, the widow of Gwyn T. "Frog" Chambers of Frog Ridge Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Chambers was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Wilkes County to Samuel Thomas and Rebecca Gregory Johnson. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Johnson and wife LaRue of Pilot Mountain, and Larry Chambers and wife Jane of North Wilkesboro; two daughters, Helen Mitchell of Winston-Salem and Barbara Chambers of North Wilkesboro; a brother, L.P. Johnson of North Wilkesboro; two sisters, Evie Combs of Greensboro and Hazel Johnson of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Miller Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Wellborn officiating. Burial will be in Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight and other times at the home of a son, Larry Chambers, 1099 Speedway Road, North Wilkesboro. YADKINVILLE - Mr. Virgil Madison Chandler, 60, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Piedmont Village. Mr. Chandler was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Guilford County, a son of the late Charles Madison and Lucille Bull Chandler. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 33 years of service. He was a member of Yadkinville Church of God. Surviving are his wife, Marie Chappel of Yadkinville; and four brothers, J.T. "Jim" Chandler of Kernersville, Gary Chandler of Walkertown, Ray Chandler of Tobaccoville and Darrell Chandler of Lawrence-ville, Ga. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home Chapel in Kernersville by the Rev. Timothy Jones. Burial will follow in Mount Gur cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Yadkin County, P.O. Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055.
