Mrs. Marjorie Huddleston Hudnall, 78, of Homestead Hills, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born July 15, 1923, in Mingo County, W.Va. to Charles Lawrence Huddleston Sr. and Ethel Clark Huddleston. Mrs. Hudnall was a member of Peace Haven Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father; a brother, Charles Lawrence Jr.; and two daughters, Molly Jane and Kay Ellen. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd C. Hudnall of the home; a daughter, Sara Hudnall Jones and husband Lonnie of Clemmons; two sons, Charles William Hudnall and wife Doris of Edenton and Lawrence Martin Hudnall "Lars" and wife Vickie of Ft. Leavenworth, Kan.; a grandson, Martin Clark Hudnall; three granddaughters, Chelsea Glenn Jones, McKenzie Kathleen Jones and Madeline Reese Jones; and her mother of Portsmouth, Ohio. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Mike Jamison officiating. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Peace Haven Baptist Church Building Fund, 1501 N. Peace Haven Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104.

IRELAND

ADVANCE - Mr. Kenneth Samuel Ireland, 49, of Armsworthy Road died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. They request memorials be considered for the Lupus Foundation of America, 2841 Foxwood Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service Saturday. Mr. Ireland was born in Rowan County on Jan. 22, 1953, to Clyde and Mary Potts Ireland of Mocksville and he was a machinist with R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of 28 years, Toni Spillman Ireland of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Robbie Elaina Spaugh and husband Michael B. Spaugh of Advance, and Miss Lea Kendra Ireland of Advance; a granddaughter, Sarah Ashley Spaugh; four brothers, Wayne Ireland and Dale Ireland, both of Mocksville, Roger Ireland of Cleveland, N.C. and Bobby Ireland of Hamptonville; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Robert L. and Maxine Armsworthy Spillman of Advance; and many, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

LEWIS

LEXINGTON - Mrs. Norma Gladys Bowman Lewis, 81, of 1127 Hunter Road, the widow of Clarence Garland Lewis, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville. Mrs. Lewis was born June 3, 1920, in Patrick County, Va., the daughter of the late Rufus Lee and Birdie Lee Pack Bowman. She worked at Spencer's Inc. in Mount Airy for many years and later retired from Carol Lane Inc. in Thomasville. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Rich Fork Baptist Church in Thomasville. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Clarencie Clara and Larry Campbell of Lexington; two granddaughters and spouses, Julie and Marc DeMont of Cary and Marie and Donald Moran of Sophia; a great-granddaughter, Emily Marie Moran of Sophia; an expected great-grandson, Jonathan Gray DeMont of Cary; a brother, Rufus Lee Bowman of Mount Airy; and special friends, Nealie Pearson and family of Thomasville. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Lewis was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Gray Lewis; three sisters, Flora Bowman Wells, Lois Bowman Whitmore and Ola Bowman Bowman; and two brothers, Harden Bowman and Coy Bowman. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Byron Barker. Burial will be in the Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Rich Fork Baptist Church Building Fund, Old Lexington Highway, Thomasville, NC 27360.

MAUNEY

Mrs. Gladys Laverne Pegues Mauney, 71, of 2315 Ansonia St. passed away Monday, Feb. 11, 2002, at the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Feb. 4, 1931, in Davie County to Mrs. Bessie Miller Pegues and Mr. Oliver B. Pegues. She was a lifelong resident of Winston-Salem and a member of the Carver Road Church of Christ. She was married to Mr. Charles E. Mauney, who preceded her in death in 1972. She leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Ms. Tanja Maria Logan of the home; an aunt, Mrs. Nathan Revels and son of 264 Terrace Ave.; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. A service in her memory will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at the Carver Road Church of Christ. The family visitation will be from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. (Russell)

WALNUT COVE - Mr. Richard "Knight" Stultz, the husband of Casey Knight Stultz, died Tuesday. A memorial service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mount Airy. Memorial Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

WAGNER

Mrs. Frances Weaver Wagner, 79, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born Nov. 14, 1922, in Forsyth County to James Riley and Ada Foltz Weaver. Mrs. Wagner was a graduate of Mineral Springs High School, class of 1942. She enjoyed keeping children in her home through the years. Survivors include her former husband, Herman Wagner of Salisbury; a son, Kenneth Wagner of the home; two daughters, Karen Harris and husband Fred of Mocksville and Kathy Webb and husband Chip of Walkertown; five grand-daughters, Keely Bridges and husband Jason of Winston-Salem, Holly Harris of Mocksville, Kathryn Webb, Kristen Webb and Kelsey Grace Webb of Walkertown; a sister, Ruby Crandall of Clemmons; and a special niece, Cheryl Wilson and husband Rodney of Clemmons. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Vogler & Son's Main Street Chapel by the Rev. Chip Webb. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thurs-day at the funeral home.

WAGNER

THOMASVILLE - Mrs. Mildred "Millie" Ann Wagner, 60, the wife of Billy Joe Wagner, died Tuesday at High Point Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

WESTMORELAND

Mrs. Katherine Enochs Westmoreland passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, 2002, at Vienna Village Retirement Home in Pfafftown. She was born to Mariah and David Enochs on Aug. 3, 1915, in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Henry Carter Westmoreland, in 1997; three sisters; and a brother. She is survived by two daughters, Ann Westmoreland Lowe and her husband, Jim, of Pfafftown and Kay Westmoreland Joyce and her husband, Randy Joyce, of Raleigh; a granddaughter, Heather Lowe Parker and her husband, Chris; two great-grandchildren, Victoria Ann Parker and Jacob Henry Parker; a special niece, Sue Little Goforth; a special nephew, Ken Little and his wife, Mary Ann; and several nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews. Mrs. Westmoreland worked for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington during World War II and was retired from Wachovia Bank after 26 years. For most of her adult life, she was an active member of Oak Grove Moravian Church. She enjoyed needlework and cooking. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Oak Grove Moravian Church Graveyard by the Rev. Harold Cole. The family will receive friends after the graveside service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Moravian Church, 120 Hammock Farm Road, Walkertown, NC 27051. The family would like to express a special thanks to all the caregivers at Vienna Village Retirement Home for their loving care during the past 11 years.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Mr. Richard Williams, 83, formerly of Boonville, died Feb. 6, 2002, at Birmingham Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Boonville. Spencer Funeral Home, Mount Airy, is in charge of arrangements.

BOONE - Mr. John Chase Bennett IV, 19, died Tuesday in Greensboro. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. Hampton Funeral Service of Boone is in charge of arrangements.

BOSTIC

Mrs. Doris Fowlkes Bostic, the wife of James Bee Bostic, her beloved husband of 49 years, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Bostic had retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System after spending more than 44 years of teaching middle-school students her favorite subject: Math! She was a well-respected and true teaching professional who brought genuine credibility and creative learning experiences to her students. Teaching was her joy! She was born in Providence to the late Robert Samuel and Betty Moss Fowlkes. She graduated from Greensboro College with a bachelor's degree in education. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Robert "Rob" Bostic and Karen Satterfield Bostic; and two wonderful grandchildren, Lindsay and Matthew, all of Clemmons. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103; or the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, NC 27407. LEXINGTON - Charles Brink-ley, 44, died Thursday at his home. Funeral arrangements are pending at Davidson Funeral Home.

BRYAN

KERNERSVILLE - Mr. George "Buck" Melvin Bryan, 82, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born April 29, 1919, in Forsyth County to the late Gideon McKinley and Eva Holder Bryan. Mr. Bryan was a member of Hiatt Memorial United Methodist Church and the Crusade Sunday school class. He was also a member of the administrative council. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He loved flying and flew his own plane for many years. He also loved NASCAR. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Walker Bryan; two brothers, John and Russell Bryan; and a sister, Mildred Bryan Powers. Surviving are a daughter, Montine Bryan Scales of Winston-Salem; a sister, Judy Cox and husband Bob of Winston-Salem; three sisters-in-law, Edith W. Gray, Ruth F. Bryan and Ruth J. Bryan; also his beloved dog, Brownie; and many special friends. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. David Heath officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.

GRAVETTE, Ark. - Mrs. Vickie Ann Burchette, 48, wife of Donald Burchette, formerly of Winston Salem, passed away unexpectedly at her home Feb. 12, 2002, in Gravette, Ark. She is the daughter of Dolly Griffis of Winston Salem. Vickie graduated from East Forsyth High School. She and her family moved to Arkansas in 1995. Mrs. Burchette attended Newsong Church in Grove, Okla. She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Lester Griffis; a brother, Gary; and her grandmother, Hazel Brenner. She is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Allen Burchette (Stacy) and Eric Burchette; a granddaughter, Aislyn Ann, all of Gravette, Ark.; two sisters, Pam Shore (Benny) and Deborah Brenner; a brother, Tommy Jones (Sandra); her aunt and uncle, Loretta and Dalton Grubbs; a niece; a nephew; and a great-nephew, all of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Feb. 15, 2002, at Collison Longht Funeral Home Chapel in Gravette, Ark. Collison Longht Funeral Home of Gravette, Ark. is serving the Burchette family.

CASEY

Mr. Ferry A. Casey

April 7, 1915 - Feb.12, 2002

Mr. Ferry A. Casey, 86, a longtime native of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday. He had recently moved to Reno, Nev. He was retired from a lab-technician position at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Survivors include his wife, Santina; sons Glenn of San Diego, Calif., and Richard of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Santina Casey of Reno, Nev.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Forsyth Memorial cemetery in Winston-Salem. Donations are suggested for St. Mary's Hospice in Reno, Nev.

CLEVENGER

RADCLIFF, Ky. - Mrs. Doris "Jackie" Taylor Clevenger, 56, passed away Feb. 12, 2002. She was born Feb. 11, 1946, to Sam Melvin and Dorothy Rena Young Taylor. Mrs. Clevenger was a member of New Home Methodist Church and a graduate of Boonville High School. She later graduated from Western Kentucky University with a master's degree in literature art where she was a member of PHI BETA KAPPA. She was preceded in death by her father, Sam Melvin Taylor; and a sister, Bobbie Jean Taylor. Surviving are her husband, Carl Clevenger of the home; a daughter, Denise (Darrell) Williams of Yadkinville; a son, David Wilson of Yadkinville; her grandchildren, Mindy and Marcus Williams and Nathaniel and Samuel Wilson; two sisters, Melva Ann (C.G.) Hutchens of Yadkinville and Dorothy (R.C.) Wishon of Advance; and two brothers, Sam (Linda) Taylor of Lewisville and Donald R. Taylor and Wanda of East Bend.A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at the New Home Methodist Church cemetery with the Rev. David Maynard officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the New Home Methodist Church cemetery Fund, c/o Nancy Norman, 3904 Siloam Road, East Bend, NC 27018. Huff Funeral Home of East Bend is serving the Clevenger family.

Nannie Lee Shelton Downs, 91, of 1631 Thurmond St. passed Feb. 8, 2002, at Hospice and Palliative CareCenter. She was born Feb. 27, 1910, to Willie Burl Shelton and Mattie Walters Shelton. She was a member of Mercy Seat Holiness Church, where she served on the mothers board. She was preceded in death by her husband, McKinley Downs; three sons, John Harley Jr., William Harley and Arthur Lee Hairston; sisters Martha Shelton, Sanaira Parker and Mary Shelton Sanders House; and a brother, William Shelton. She leaves to cherish her memories Louise Shelton Brown of Winston-Salem, Juanita Shelton Banks of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Virginia Shelton Fisher of Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren Stephanie Hairston Thompson of New York, Michael (Denise) Harley of Long Beach, Calif. and Michelle (Donald) Bolding of Lakewood, Calif.; great-grandchildren Michael, Kayla and Myles Harley of Long Beach, Calif. and William, Christopher and MacKinley Bolding of Lakewood, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Mercy Seat Holiness Church, where Bishop Theodore Rice will officiate. Burial will follow at Evergreen cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church. The funeral cortege will assemble and leave from the residence. LEXINGTON - Annie Mae Warfford Fine, 85, the wife of the late Pearlie Edward Fine, died Thursday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Stoner's Grove Baptist Church. Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

FRANKLIN

MOUNT AIRY - Mr. Shade McGee Franklin, 80, of 178 Sunset Ave., the husband of Mary Easter Franklin, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at his home. Mr. Franklin was born Dec. 29, 1921, in Cumberland County, Va., to the late Jay and Mary Alice McGee Franklin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II, the retired owner of the State Line Trading Post and of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Mary Easter Franklin of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Jeff Pruitt, and Sherri and Freddie Lyons, all of Mount Airy; a son, Lewis Franklin of Mount Airy; a step-daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Mike Money of Mount Airy; six grandchildren and spouses, Sara Daus, Breanna Pruitt and Benji. and Rhonda Hiatt, all of Mount Airy; Stephanie and Heath Winslow of Raleigh; and Sheena Franklin and Shasta Franklin, both of Cana, Va.; and three special friends from Northern Home Care, Becky Johnson, Rebekah Meyers and Sabrina McKeithen. In addition to his parents, Mr. Franklin was preceded in death by a step-daughter, Sandra Hiatt; a grandson, Michael Money; and a sister, Mary Jay Parks. The funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, 2002, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. David Sechrist and the Rev. Russell Vass. Burial will be in the Oakdale cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. LOWGAP - Mrs. Sarah Jane Edwards Freeman, 56, the wife of Bobby Ray Freeman Sr., died Thursday at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Holy Cross Baptist Church. Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy is in charge of arrangements.

HICKS

DURHAM - Mr. Alfonzo L. Hicks, formerly of 1533 E. 25th St., Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday morning in Durham. He had moved there a few years ago. He was born in Winston-Salem, attended Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and was a graduate of Paisley High School. He attended Federal City College in Washington. He worked for C.P. Telephone in Washington for some years. Survivors include two daughters, Shelby Carter and Twanna McQueen, both of Winston-Salem; his mother, Mrs. Geneva Davis of Winston-Salem; a sister, Willa F. Davis of Tobaccoville; two brothers, James Hicks and Edward Davis, both of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren; an uncle, Mr. Frank Hicks of Winston-Salem; a special cousin, Mr. Robert Hicks of Charlotte; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Lowe officiating. Burial will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the services. The procession will assemble and leave from the home, 1533 E. 25th St., for the church at 1:10 p.m. Saturday. BOONE - Mr. Robert Lee Hicks, 78, formerly of Banner Elk, died Thursday. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Liberty Methodist Church in Banner Elk. Hampton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
