Mrs. Janet R. Vanaman
HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Janet Roith Vanaman, 60, of 113 Ham Road died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in LaFayette Baptist Church by the Rev. Bryan Lee. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Vanaman is survived by her husband, Robert F. Vanaman of Hope Mills; three daughters, Denise D. Haburn of Fayetteville, Sandra Tosatto of Honolulu and Michelle V. Collins of Hope Mills; and a brother, Edward Roith of Shawnee, Kan.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Jasper ‘Jack’ Powell Sr.
Jasper D. “Jack” Powell Sr., 74, of 2418 Owen Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in his home.
Mr. Powell was a member of Faymont Baptist Church and worked for Dandee Bakeries for 20 years. He retired from Life of Virginia Insurance Company after 20 years and worked for Avis Rent A Car for 10 years. Mr. Powell was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Lebanon Masonic Lodge 391 in Hope Mills.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Faymont Baptist Church by the Revs. Sherill Boykin and Curtis Harper. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Powell is survived by his wife, Mabel P. Powell of Fayetteville; two daughters, Donna P. Smith of Roseboro and June P. Biggs of Fayetteville; four sons, Terry Powell, Richard K. Powell and John K. Powell, all of Fayetteville, and David Powell Jr. of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Cleo Hubbard of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Wilbert R. Oliver
MOUNT OLIVE -- Wilbert Ray Oliver, 38, of 400 E. Kornegay St. died Friday in Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Winn Chapel Baptist Church by the Rev. John Oliver. Burial will be in Carver City cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Butler & Son Funeral Home of Roseboro.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his mother and stepfather, Ida M. and Paul Carlton of the home; two sisters, Peggy Oliver of Goldsboro and Lisa Sherrod of Jonesboro, Ga.; and four brothers, the Rev. John Oliver of Faison, Daniel Oliver of Newark, N.J., Larry Oliver of Hackensack, N.J., and Louis Oliver of Goldsboro.
The public will be received Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the church.

Harold Pembrook
RESTON, Va. -- Harold Pembrook, 81, of Reston, formerly of Pinehurst, N.C., died Dec. 26.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Jan. 3 in United Christian Parish/South Lakes. Arrangements were handled by Green Funeral Home of Herndon.
Mr. Pembrook is survived by his wife, Georgianna Harris of Carlisle, Pa.; three daughters, Linda Avgerinos of New Canaan, Conn., and Paula Crisler and Leslie Tzirimis, both of Reston; a brother, Walter Pembrook of Apopka, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

FAIRMONT -- Sylvester Rogers, 48, of 608 Benjamin St. died Saturday.
The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Rev. W.C. Marable and Elder Garrett Lloyd. Burial will be in the Fairmont cemetery.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Rogers of Fairmont; two daughters, Nicole Rogers and Teresa Rogers, both of Raleigh; his parents, Elder Vernon and Estella Rogers of Fairmont; two brothers, Charles Rogers of Boise, Idaho, and James Rogers of Fairmont; four sisters, Annie Kerney of Raleigh, Barbara Bullock of Proctorville, Brenda Lloyd of Quiet Oak and Gwendolyn Hill of Fairmont; and two granddaughters.

Mrs. Isobel W. Gregory
BUIES CREEK -- Mrs. Isobel W. Gregory of Buies Creek died Monday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home chapel in Lillington by the Rev. Michael Simmons. Burial will be in Buies Creek cemetery.
Mrs. Gregory is survived by her husband, Curtis D. Gregory of the home; two sons, Max Gregory of Coats and James Gregory of Buies Creek; two daughters, Patricia G. Hudson of Raleigh and Frances G. Heath of England; four sisters, Gertrude Beard of Bunnlevel, Jean Holmes and Wilma Stevens, both of South Carolina, and Pauline Pena of Fayetteville; two brothers, Wade Wilburn of Fayetteville and Robert Wilburn of Wade; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

George E. Weber
SOUTHERN PINES -- George Earl Weber, 78, of Southern Pines died Sunday in Penick Village.
Mr. Weber was a design engineer and was chief of the design branch of Norfolk Divison of Corps of Army Engineers. He was inducted into the Corps of Engineers Hall of Fame.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Village Chapel in Pinehurst by the Revs. Glenn Miller and Bill McInnis. Entombment will be in Pinelawn Mausoleum. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home.
Mr. Weber is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by four daughters, Tabitha Blue of Dayton, Ohio, Blondell Hester and Permella Lewis, both of Whiteville, and the Rev. Barbara Peacock of Charlotte; a son, the Rev. Darryl Lewis of Whiteville; a sister, Melba Haynes of Bladenboro; and a brother, Nick J. Peacock of Clarkton.
