SOUTHERN PINES -- William Henry Harper, 91, of Southern Pines died Monday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.
He was an assistant controller and assistant treasurer for A.M. Byers Co. in Pittsburgh.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Community Congregational Church by the Rev. Michael J. Garber. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home.
Mr. Harper is survived by his wife, Veva C. Harper.

Mrs. Lois D. Sasser
RICHMOND, Va. -- Mrs. Lois Dyson Sasser, 83, of Richmond, formerly of Whiteville, N.C., died Wednesday.
Mrs. Sasser was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She was employed by Leader Brothers Department Store and Cato’s for many years.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Whiteville Memorial cemetery in Whiteville by the Rev. James Taylor.
Mrs. Sasser is survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKenzie Mortuary in Whiteville.

ERWIN -- Mrs. Sylvia Ann Carver, 59, of 207 Old Post Road died Wednesday in Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
She was a medical technologist, and had worked for Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Skinner Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by the Rev. Wayne Sterling. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery.
Mrs. Carver is survived by her husband, Benny Carver; a son, Jeff Barth of Statesville; a daughter, Kristin Barth of Charlotte; her mother, Myrtle S. Lucas of Dunn; a brother, Jessie Lucas Jr. of Erwin; five sisters, Teeny Johnson of Dunn, Hilda Cooper of Erwin, Barbara Lynch of Norfolk, Va., Joyce Howell of Orlando, Fla., and Myrtle McDonald of Kentucky; and two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

COATS -- Waylon Williams, 78, of Coats died Wednesday in Brian Center in Asheboro.

She was a member of Haymount United Methodist Church.
