MAXTON -- Willie Smith, 84, of Route 4, Box 254-A died Monday in Carrolton of Lumberton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in William’s Chapel AME Zion Methodist Church in Alma by the Rev. Sarah Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Smith is survived by a stepdaughter, Pearlie Fairley of Hartford, Conn.; two stepsons, Danny Smith of Hartford and Kelly Smith of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Arthur Griffin Sr., 69, of 3560 Barron Way, Fayetteville, died Tuesday.
He retired from Kelly Springfield.

Fairley, Cheryl Carrington and Barbara Zentus, all of Fayetteville; five brothers, John Griffin of Washington, D.C., Winfield Griffin of Norfolk, Va., Franklin Griffin of North Charleston, S.C., and Winford Griffin and Elijah Griffin, both of Chesapeake, Va.; four sisters, Mary Barco of South Mills, Betty J. Smith and Florence Brickhouse, both of Chesapeake, and Dorothy Crawford of Elkins Park, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
