Willie Smith

MAXTON -- Willie Smith, 84, of Route 4, Box 254-A died Monday in Carrolton of Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in William’s Chapel AME Zion Methodist Church in Alma by the Rev. Sarah Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Smith is survived by a stepdaughter, Pearlie Fairley of Hartford, Conn.; two stepsons, Danny Smith of Hartford and Kelly Smith of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at Carrie-Hester Funeral Services.

Ms. Mattie Kendrick

BOSTON -- Mattie Kendrick of Boston, formerly of St. Pauls, N.C., died Jan. 15.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Second New Light Baptist Church in St. Pauls by the Rev. Johnny Jordan. Burial will be in the Goodman cemetery in St. Pauls. Arrangements are being handled by L.E. Floyd Chapel of St. Pauls.

John L. Boykin

John L. Boykin, 57, of Fayetteville died Monday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Mt. Zion AME Zion Church in Eastover by Bishop J.V. Porter. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Boykin is survived by his wife, Rena M. Boykin of the home; a daughter, Brenda F. Murray of Fayetteville; two sons, Eric L. Boykin and Kevin L. Boykin, both of Fayetteville; four sisters, Rosa L. Council, Lucille Harris, Joan Hardison and Adail Milton, all of Fayetteville; two brothers, Frank Boykin and James Boykin, both of Fayetteville; and 10 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Tucker & Sons Funeral Home in Eastover.

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- William Franklin Boone, 76, of Buffalo, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sunday in Rosewell Park Hospital.

Mr. Boone is survived by a brother, F.M. Boone of Fayetteville.

CHADBOURN -- Mrs. Ludie Caulder Sealey, 66, of 215 Institute St. died Wednesday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chadbourn Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Jim Skinner. Burial will be in Chadbourn Memorial cemetery.

Mrs. Sealey is survived by her husband, Davis Sealey of the home; a son, Jimmy D. Sealey of Chadbourn; a daughter, Elisa S. Williams of Chadbourn; three sisters, Nancy Hancock of Winter Park, Fla., Doretha Sessoms of St. Pauls and Martine Soto of Hawaii; and six grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home.

LAURINBURG -- William Howard Driggers, 63, of 1403-A McBride Ave. died Thursday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Driggers was a retired florist and an Air Force veteran. He attended South Laurinburg Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in South Laurinburg Baptist Church by the Revs. Legrande Taylor and Ray Sutherland. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Driggers is survived by several nieces and nephews.

SPRING LAKE -- James Gertha McDougald, 78, of 500 Broad St. died Tuesday in Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Love Grove AME Zion Church in Sanford. Arrangements are being handled by Knotts Funeral Home of Sanford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. McDougald is survived by three daughters, Diana Benavides of Fayetteville, Rosemary McKoy of Dudley and Jacqueline Dowdy of Carthage; three sons, James H. McDougald and and Roylee McDougald, both of Olivia, and Anthony McDougald of Sanford; four sisters, Layton Jones of Fayetteville, Theresa Lucas of Spring Lake, Nora McDougald of Bronx, N.Y., and Deloris Bell of Olivia; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

James A. Griffin Sr.

Retired Air Force Tech. Sgt. James Arthur Griffin Sr., 69, of 3560 Barron Way, Fayetteville, died Tuesday.

He retired from Kelly Springfield.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Greater First Baptist Church in Cedar Creek by the Rev. N.P. Brodie. Burial with full military honors will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Griffin is survived by four sons, James A. Griffin Jr. and Anthony Griffin, both of Fayetteville, William Griffin of Gaithersburg, Md., and Harold Hill of Aurora, Colo.; three daughters, Carol G. Fairley, Cheryl Carrington and Barbara Zentus, all of Fayetteville; five brothers, John Griffin of Washington, D.C., Winfield Griffin of Norfolk, Va., Franklin Griffin of North Charleston, S.C., and Winford Griffin and Elijah Griffin, both of Chesapeake, Va.; four sisters, Mary Barco of South Mills, Betty J. Smith and Florence Brickhouse, both of Chesapeake, and Dorothy Crawford of Elkins Park, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The public will be received today from 3 to 6 p.m. at H.M. Colvin Funeral Home.

GODWIN -- Johnny Williams, 57, of Godwin died Wednesday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Spring Hill Free Will Baptist Church by the Rev. W.H. Currie and Elder Governor Davis. Burial will be in Lindsey cemetery.

Mr. Williams is survived by two sons, Phillip Williams of Fayetteville and Wayne Williams of Autryville; two sisters, Lula Williams and Isabelle Williams, both of Godwin; five brothers, Willie C. Williams of Dunn, Moses A. Williams and James Williams, both of Autryville, and T.F. Williams and James Faison, both of Garland; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 7:30 at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.

SANFORD -- Miss Mary Mozella Griffin, 44, of 636 Matthews St. died Tuesday in her home.

Miss Griffin is survived by a son, Allen J. Griffin of Sanford; four sisters, Betty Lindsey, Dorothy Buie and Henrietta Boney, all of Sanford, and Lela Wimbley of Gulf; four brothers, Evangelist Burnette Griffin, Ernest Griffin, Benjamin Griffin and Denny Griffin, all of Sanford; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Watson Mortuary and at other times at 106 S. Third St., Sanford.

Mrs. Bullard is survived by two sons, Lemar Bullard of Parkton and John C. Bullard of St. Pauls; a daughter, Mary B. McCrowie of Fayetteville; a sister, Mary McGirt; a brother, Thomas Milsap; and several grandchildren.

Mr. Timpson is survived by his wife, Dorothy Timpson of the home; two sons, Ricky Timpson and Wayne Timpson, both of Spring Lake; a daughter, LaTaunya Lawrence of Spring Lake; four brothers, Robert Timpson of Garner, and Eugene Timpson, the Rev. Clarence Timpson and L.V. Timpson, all of Youngstown, Ohio; three sisters, the Rev. Dorothy Mosely-Randall of Los Angeles, Ossie Kennedy of Youngstown and Fannie Byrd-Shufford of Garner; and six grandchildren.

Ms. Lane is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Terah Sayers of the Republic of Panama; a daughter, Marianella Bedolla of Florida; two sisters, Melba Beacham and Gloria Williams, both of South Carolina; and a brother, Roberta Sayers.
