Hardin, Miss Jenny Anne "Jenny" (Boardman)

SHELBY - Mrs. Jennifer "Jenny" Anne Boardman Hardin, 52, of Forest Hill Drive, died
Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at home.
Born in Australia, she was the daughter of Morris Boardman of Australia and Jean
Gibson Boardman, also of Australia. Mrs. Hardin was Vice President of National
Association of Safety Professionals. She was a homemaker, who enjoyed photography,
traveling and spending time with her loving husband, Tom and daughter, Claire. Jenny
was a member of Putnam Baptist Church.
A sister, Elaine Boardman preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her loving husband of eight years, Thomas
F. Hardin of Shelby; daughters, Nikki Hardin of Alpharetta, Ga. and Claire Wood of
Australia; brothers, Stuart Boardman of Australia; sisters, Lynn and husband, Ian, of
Australia; and many loving extended family members and loving friends.
Memorial service: Friday, June 20 at 5 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the chapel immediately following the service.

Mrs. Anna Lee (Potter) Carpenter

Jan. 4, 2009
Mrs. Anna Lee Potter Carpenter, 74, died Sunday, January 4, 2009, at
Carolina Care in Cherryville.
Born in Gaffney, S.C., she was a lifelong member of Landmark Baptist Church
and retired from Carolina Freight in Cherryville.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Selinger Carpenter; parents,
William Samuel and Geneva Godfrey Potter; brothers, Bobby and Joe Potter;
and sister, Ida J. Hawkins.
She is survived by her son Richard Clary and wife, Doris, of Kings Mountain; daughters, Amy
Carpenter Randolph and husband, Bill, of Shelby; sisters, Deane Potter Wallace, of Gaffney,
Pauline Potter Hammett and husband, Lamar, of Gaffney; grandchildren, Rick Clary, of
Charlotte, Ella and Sel Randolph, of Shelby; many loving nieces and nephews; and special
friends, Judy and J.T. Smith. Special thanks to the staff at Carolina Care of Cherryville.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday, Jan. 6, 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton

Mrs. Aleriene Burr

Mrs. Clyde Virgil Burr, also known as Aleriene Burr, 94, died Monday, March 9, 2009,
at home.
After being born in Plymouth, Michigan in 1914, her parents moved to Page, W. Va.,
where they raised and trained her up in the ways of the Lord during the early years of
her life. Aleriene married Clyde Virgil Burr while working with Elizabeth Arden in the
College Drug Store in Montgomery, W. Va. In the early 1940s Aleriene moved to
Goldsboro, N.C., where Clyde worked as a civilian employee of the Defense
Department at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. In the mid 1940s, she and Clyde
moved to Wilmington, N.C. In the late 1940s, Aleriene moved to Morehead City, N.C.,
where Clyde worked with the Navy department at nearby Cherry Point Navy-Marine
Base. Aleriene was a member of the First United Methodist Church as long as she
lived in Morehead City. Aleriene continued to live in Morehead City after Clyde
passed away in 1970 until 1974. In 1974, Aleriene moved to the Shelby area. She
was a member of Central United Methodist Church until she transferred to the
Patterson Springs Baptist Church. Afterwards, she transferred her membership to the Elizabeth Baptist
Church. From 2003 on, she frequently attended Shelby First Wesleyan Church and on weekdays
attended the Life Enrichment Center in Shelby.
Aleriene was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil Elmer Kincaid and Viola "Bonnie" Kincaid; two
sisters, Velma Holland and Margaret "Midge" Hill; and two brothers, Virgil "Buddy" Kincaid and Thomas
O. Kincaid.
Aleriene is survived by one sister, Gene Oxley; two sons, Clyde Virgil "Ted" Burr and his wife, Yvonne,
and Stephen Michael Burr and his wife, Barbara; one daughter, Vickie Aleriene Samuels and her
husband, Larry; nine grandchildren, Wendy Washburn and her husband, Warren, Laura Curtis and her
husband, Jeff, Keith Kendrick and his wife, Amanda, Robert Kendrick and his wife, Molly, Faith George
and her husband, Kyle, David Burr, Anna and Sarah Burr and Stephen Michael James Burr; and eight
great-grandchildren, Lyndsey and Allyson Washburn, Gracie Kendrick, Lane and Peyton Curtis, Ryder
and Gavin Kendrick and Skylar Hoyle.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 11, 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Cecil M. Burton

Khan Lineberger

Mr. Steffan Khan Lineberger, 36, of 7007 Richmond Drive, Kings Mountain, NC went to
be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 9, 2009 at Carolina Rehabilitation
in Mount Holly, NC.
He was born in Mecklenburg County to Jan Lineberger and Tory Torstenson, on
January 7, 1973.
He served in the US Coast Guard Reserve and had previously worked as a Facilities
Mechanic for Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was a faithful and devoted member of Christian Freedom Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. He
enjoyed various volunteer work for Grace Christian Academy, Hearts and Hooves, as well as mission
work; he loved all types of sports, being outdoors and spending time with his loving wife Karen and son
Kody, as well as family and friends..
He was preceded in death by grandmother, Dorothy Grice Lineberger, and grandparents, Jewell and
Leila Smith VanMatre.
Khan is survived by his loving wife, Karen Head Lineberger, and son, Kody Louis Lineberger. His mother
Jan Lineberger Young and friend Stan McNeil of Waco, His father Tory Torstenson and wife Brenda of
Juliette, GA, step-father, John Young and wife Natela of Kings Mountain, and grandfather Louis O.
Lineburger of Waco.
Brothers, Jamie B. Young and wife Kathy of Waxhaw, Thor Torstenson, Tory Luke Torstenson, and Tait
Torstenson, all of Juliette, GA., his sister Jennifer Straumins and husband Eric of Kernersville, NC.
His loving aunts, Meridee Floyd, Lynda Andrews and her husband Greg, and Judy Dial. Khan’s loving
cousins, Melissa, Matt, Rob, Katie, Brian and Chris, and a his loving niece, Sloan Young,

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Cecil M. Burton
Funeral Home and Crematory, Shelby, NC. A Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, March 13,
2009 at 5:00 pm at Christian Freedom Baptist Church, 246 Range Road, Kings Mountain, NC, with Rev.
Mike Chambers and Rev. Sam Snyder officiating. Burial will be private.

James Mayes Jr.
Died Oct. 10, 2006
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. James Mayes Jr., 81, of 1121 Stoney Point Road, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ethel Ellis and James Manson Mayes Sr. He was a self-employed dairy farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Margie Mayes; five sons, Jerry Mayes and wife, Susan, of Waco, William Mayes and wife, Jean, of Shelby, Jack Mayes and wife, Barbara, of Kings Mountain, Charles Mayes and wife, Leslie, of Tennessee and Luke Mayes and wife, Jennifer, of Shelby; five daughters, Patty Morrison and husband, Calvin, of Polkville, Laura Martin and husband, Charles, of Kings Mountain, Susie Morrison and husband, Lewis, of Polkville, Tammy Mayes and partner, Dean, of Shelby and Lucy Davis and husband, Bobby, of Kings Mountain; brothers, J.O. Mayes, Bill Mayes, Fred Mayes and Johnny Mayes; sisters, Betty Mayes, Barbara Mullinax and Virginia Beaver; 20 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Joan ‘Tootie’ Young
Died Oct. 11, 2006
SHELBY — Mrs. Joan “Tootie” Petty Young, 74, of 913 Sarratt Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center.
Born in Newport News, Va., she was retired from First and Merchant National Bank in Petersburg, Va. She was a member of Monumental Baptist Church in Petersburg, where she lived for more than 40 years. She loved painting, sewing, cooking and cross stitch, but most of all she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kind, loving ways, sacrificial spirit and unselfish character.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Root Young; parents, John Bartlett Petty Sr. and Dolly Alexander Petty; and a brother, John Bartlett Petty Jr.
Surviving are a son, Mark Edwin Young of Petersburg; a daughter, Linda Young King and husband, Larry, of Shelby; a sister, Lynn Petty Prillaman of Newport News; grandchildren, Jennifer King Melton and husband, Jeff, Laura King Hayes and husband, Chris, Erin King McCraw and husband, Thomas, all of Shelby, and Mark Edwin Young II, Blake Alexander Young and Christina Nicole Young, all of Newport News; great-grandchildren, Lauren Mackenzie Hayes and Ethan James Hayes of Shelby; and a host of loving friends and relatives.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

SHELBY — Ms. Dana Summey Hoyle, 53, of 1949 Creek Ridge Road, died in an auto accident Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006.

Ruth Howe
Nov. 1, 1905 — Oct. 11, 2006
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth A. Howe, 100, formerly of 1605 Mountain Drive, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Summit Place of Kings Mountain.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John Landrum and Everlena Allen Allen. She retired as a filing clerk from the Internal Revenue Service and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Howe, a brother and six sisters.
She is survived by a sister, Addie Spangler and husband, Hugh, of Shelby, and many nieces and nephews.

RUTHERFORDTON — Mrs. Kathleen Kirby Hill, 85, formerly of Pleasant Hill Church Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Hospice House of Forest City.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late K.C. Kirby Sr. and Indiana Medford Kirby. She was a homemaker and member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Calvin Hill, who died in 1994; brothers, K.C. Kirby Jr. and James Kirby; and sisters, Arleen Albright and Marie Morrow.
Survivors include sons, Alan Hill and wife, Jan, of Bostic and Mike Hill and wife, Sharon, of Swannanoa; three sisters, Oveita Wright of Hendersonville, Tenn., Nellie Hensley of Rutherfordton and Beatrice Beheler of Shelby; three grandchildren, Cory Hill, Brian Hill and Angie Wright; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends today from 1:30 to 2:30 at The Padgett and King Mortuary and other times at the home of a son, Alan Hill, 5483 Bostic Sunshine Highway, Bostic.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Myrtle Ellen Franklin, 74, resident of Shelby Manor, formerly of Kings Mountain, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Union County, she was a daughter of the late C.S. and Ellen Gordon Macky and the widow of James Franklin. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. She was a retired textile employee and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by a son, Marion Johnson and wife, Dayna, of Lawndale; daughters, Sylvia Mahaffey and husband, David, and Barbara Riddle and husband, Clark, all of Clover, S.C.; a brother, Grady Mackey of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister, Grace Cauthen of Lancaster, S.C.; grandchildren, Wesley Ann Grayson, James Grayson, Jonathan Mahaffey, Kevin Johnson and Roy Johnson; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at Harris Funeral Home.
