LAWNDALE — Mrs. Nettie Kelly Tessneer, 75, of 207 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Tessneer was a daughter of the late John and Beatrice Rabb Kelly. She was a member of Shelby Free Will Baptist Church. She loved sewing and puzzle books.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and five sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Fred Tessneer Sr. of the home; two sons, Tommy Tessneer and wife, Elaine, and Ronnie Tessneer, all of Shelby; two daughters, Wanda Mullinax and husband, Rocky, and Paula Price and husband, Tommy, all of Lawndale; three brothers, Fred Kelly and wife, Evelyn, of Cherryville, Brady Kelly and wife, Edith, of Shelby and Worth Kelly and wife, Frankie, of Norfolk, Va.; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, Thomas Tessneer and Keesha, Jonathan Tessneer and Lauren, Shelia Bradley and Jon, Rebecca Robertson and James, Rocky Mullinax and Angela, Matt Mullinax and Crystal, Tiffany Tessneer, Ashley Tessneer, Candace Peterson and Randy and Tommy Price II; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mary Tessneer of Shelby.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tommy and Elaine Tessneer, 5409 Canterbury Road, Shelby

SHELBY — Mr. Aaron Haynes, 93, a native of Olgethorpe County, Ga., was born March 15, 1913, to the late Wesley and Ernest Famble Haynes. He departed this life Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at White Oak Manor of Shelby.
He retired from Charlotte Pipe Co. after 45 years. He was an avid gardener and loved fishing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three wives, Daisy C. Haynes, Mary W. Haynes and Estelle B. Haynes; a daughter, Velma H. Wade; two sons, Dan Poston and Robert Hoesh; a son-in-law, Roger Goode Walker; five brothers, Alfred Haynes, Glover Haynes, Lee Roy Haynes, K.C. Haynes and Milton Haynes; four sisters, Flora Fasion, Annie Dalton, Georgia Glover and Irene Colquiette; and an uncle, Robert Lee Haynes.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, one son, Hubert “Roy” Haynes, and a daughter, Lucille H. Walker, both of Shelby; three grandsons, Boyce “Kim” Walker, Dwight Walker and wife, Melanie, and Avery “Todd” Jones, all of Shelby; a great-grandson, Antwone Brown of Dayton, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Nylah E. Walker of Shelby; sister-in-law, Margaret Haynes; and many relatives and friends.

SHELBY — Lena Warlick Freeman, 80, of Shelby, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2006, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Freeman was an employee of Lily Mill and a homemaker. She was a military wife for more than 50 years and was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel White Warlick and Sally Melinda Martin Warlick; her husband, J.B. Freeman; sisters, Emma Ervin, Lillie Ray Morehead, Ruth Ledbetter, Mary Patterson and Hat Sanders; and brothers, Forrest Warlick, Bill Warlick and Roy “Preacher” Warlick.
She is survived by sons, Jimmy Freeman of Oklahoma City and Ron Freeman of Shelby; a daughter, Sheila Williamson of Prattville, Ala.; grandchildren, Jennifer Reid, Chris Williamson, Kaitlyn Freeman, Cody Freeman and Tricia Freeman; and great-grandchildren, Dalton, Dillon, Abby, Mason and Austin Reid.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Chapel Hill — Bernice Houser Putnam, 90, formerly of Shelby, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, at Chapel Hill.
A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late David and Nell Houser. Mrs. Putnam taught in various schools in Cleveland County for 30 years. She brought her love of nature, art and travel to her classroom and became an inspiration to many of her students.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max.
She is survived by her elder daughter, Rose, of Rutherfordton; her younger daughter, Marion and husband, James Evans; and two grandchildren, Joe and Meg of Chapel Hill.

SHELBY — Mrs. Mary Mitchell Borders, 91, of 2506 Vick Wilson Road, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2006 at Crawley Hospital in Boiling Springs. A native of Cherokee County, S.C., Mrs. Borders was a daughter of the late Samuel and Carrie Lindsay Mitchell.
Mrs. Borders was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church where she served in the Missionary Department and as president of the Usher Board. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved sewing, quilting, gardening, canning and cooking as well as being with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Borders was preceded in death by her husband, Taft Borders Sr.; a daughter, Mae Helen Mason; three sisters, Beatrice Thompson, Ida Suratt and Thelma Thompson; four brothers, Evans Mitchell, Oscar Mitchell, Samuel Mitchell and Willie Mitchell; two great-grandsons, Ryan Mason and Sanchez Black; one grandson, Rodney Borders; and one son-in-law, James Carson.
Mrs. Borders is survived by three sons, Taft Borders Jr., and wife, Alice, Charles Borders, and wife Ann, all of Shelby, and John Henry Watkins and wife, Debra, of Mooresboro; three daughters, Carrie Carson of Kingstown, Martha Benson and husband, Willie, of Cherryville, and Ella Wilson and husband, Ben, of Shelby; two sisters, Dora Hopper and Virginia Watson and husband, William, all of Cleveland, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; thirteen great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Bobby Woods, and the Crawley family; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 2:30 p.m. at Maple Springs Baptist Church. The family will be at the home of her daughter, Ella Wilson, 2415 Eleanor Drive, Shelby.
