GROVER — Mr. Thomas Lee Grier, 87, departed this life on Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born Dec. 7, 1918, in Stanley and was a veteran of World War II, a lifelong resident of Grover and a faithful member of Long Branch Baptist Church until his health declined.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. Tom H. Grier and Nanny Sue Grier; a wife, Hattie Grier; a daughter, Lois Burries; two sisters, Bessie Spear and Carrie Bell; and two brothers, L.A. Grier and Robert Grier.
He is survived by three sons, Ricky Grier, Willie Grier and Jimmy Camp, all of Grover; one daughter, Yvonne Fordham of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Karema Hassan of Youngstown, Ohio; a son-in-law, Leon Burries of Grover; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Long Branch Baptist Church.

Rev. Lynn Crouch

BLACK MOUNTAIN — The Rev. Lynn Crouch, 68, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Monday, Aug. 21, 2006.
He was born June 7, 1938, in Marshall County, Ky., and was a resident of Buncombe County for the past five years. As a young man, he was a high school math teacher and baseball and tennis coach. After leaving the school system, he was employed as an aeronautical engineer for LTV in Dallas, Texas. Then God called Lynn into the gospel ministry. He served as minister of education in Hurst, Texas, Spartanburg, S.C., and Dover, Fla. After that, he served as pastor at First Baptist Church in Fort Meade, Fla., for 21 years. He changed direction in the ministry in October 2001, when he came to Black Mountain and served as associate pastor at Mountain View Baptist Church during 2003.
At the time of his home going, he was pastor of Second Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
He was the son of the late Calvin and Opal Mathis Crouch.
Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Sheila Downing Crouch of the home; two daughters, Lesha Hall and husband, Allan, of Fort Meade and Shari Mansfield and husband, Richard, of Kings Mountain; one son, Greg Crouch and wife, Jenny, of Alpharetta, Ga.; one sister, Ada Mae McDowell of Rockford, Ill.; and nine grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Thursday after the service at Second Baptist Church of Kings Mountain.

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Juanita Perry Carroll, 62, of 1153 Rollingbrook Court, went to be with the Lord after a period of illness on Aug. 21, 2006, at Carolinas Medical Center.
She was born in Lincoln County to the late Jessie Lee Perry Sr. and Ollie Mae Raines Perry. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Gerald Gladden; her second husband, John Turner Carroll Jr.; and two sisters, Mary Lou Black and Shirley Perry Short.
She is survived by a son, Richard Carroll and fiancée, Lori Head, of Kings Mountain; daughters, Kathy Blanton and husband, Philip, and Angel Jackson and husband, Bobby, all of Kings Mountain; her companion of 10 years, Ira Chapman of Kings Mountain; a half brother, Jessie Lee Perry Jr. of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She also would have been a great-grandmother of two.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home of Richard Carroll, 321 Waco Road, Kings Mountain.

Robin Norman
Died Aug. 21, 2006
ELK PARK — Robin Nancy Norman, 46, of Sunset Circle, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Watauga Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Gladys Grant Wright. She was a member of New Camp Creek Baptist Church and attended Heaton Christian Church, where she was active with the church youth group. She loved working as a guidance counselor at Avery County High School and enjoyed camping, her rose garden and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ray Norman of the home; daughter, Megan Norman of the home; son, Grant Norman of the home; stepsons, Russell Norman, and his wife, Gina, of Jonas Ridge and Jake Norman and his wife, Amanda, of Matney; sisters, Barbara Hunter, Carolyn Dillard and Judy Ledbetter and her husband, Bill, all of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Laken Norman of Jonas Ridge and Savannah Norman of Matney; brother-in-law, Tom Norman and his wife, Marie, of Elk Park; sisters-in-law, Pauline Vance and her husband, Sammy, of Oak Hill, Linda Johnson and her husband, Ray, of Elk Park, Brenda Blackwell and her husband, Bobby, of Roan Mountain and Dorothy Carpenter and her husband, Amos, of Glen Alpine; and several nieces and nephews.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Nancy Ann Dover Chokewinyoo, 50, of 1061 Caldwell Road, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Cherokee County to Lorene Martin Dover of Gaffney, S.C., and the late Carl Dover. She was of the Baptist faith and a former textile employee.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a son, Michael Dover of the home; brothers, James Martin, Donnie Dover and Carl Dover, all of Blacksburg; and a sister, Susie Carroll, of Smyrna, S.C.

Ruby Ivester

CASAR — Mrs. Ruby Whisnant Ivester, 87, of 214 White Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Colonial Manor in Rutherfordton.
Mrs. Ivester was born in Rutherford County to the late Robert Whisnant and Della Lane Whisnant. She was a homemaker and member of Kistler’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warren Ivester; four brothers, Dwight, Britt, Robert and Ted Whisnant; and four sisters, Mamie Beaver, Florence Wyatt, Vergie Duval and Beth Vess.
Mrs. Ivester is survived by six sons, Richard Ivester and wife, Mary H., and Jim Ivester and wife, Carolyn, all of Lawndale, Ronny Ivester and wife, Pam, and Phillip Ivester and wife, Donna, all of Shelby, Donnie Ivester and wife, Linda, of Casar, and Roger Ivester and wife, Debbie, of Boiling Springs; a sister, Thelma Lewis of Fallston; seven grandchildren, Bradley Ivester of Las Vegas, the Rev. Chadwick Ivester of Kershaw, S.C., Jason Ivester of Rocky Mount, Tony Ivester of Casar, Gwynn Champion of Lawndale, Mike Ivester of Greenville, S.C., and Sherry Akers of Savannah, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of Colonial Manor and Hospice of Rutherford County for their care during this time of illness.

Virginia Hoyle

CERES, Calif. — Virginia Dare Hoyle, 87, died Monday at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, Calif.
Mrs. Hoyle was a native of Shelby and had resided at the Hale Aloha Nursing Home in Ceres for the past two years. She had previously resided in Patterson, Calif., for eight years and in Vallejo, Calif., for 45 years. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. In Vallejo, she was a Sunday school teacher at Southern Baptist Church and Grace Independent Baptist Church, where she also served as Sunday school treasurer. She also was a Sunday school teacher in North Carolina. She enjoyed sewing, her dachshunds, gardening, flowers, traveling and cooking for her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Moren and her husband, Pastor Kenneth G. Moren, of Patterson; grandsons, David J. Moren of Modesto and Kenneth J. Moren of Patterson; great-grandchildren, Amanda D. Moren of Roseville, Calif., and Aaron D. Moren and Allison D. Moren, both of Modesto.
