SHELBY — Tannie Smith Bumgarner, 103, a native of Cleveland County, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home.
Mrs. Bumgarner was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church. She retired from Dover Mill after 30 years of service and was also a homemaker. Tannie loved to work in her flower garden and loved to read the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rantie Odell Bumgarner; her parents, William S. Smith and Rita Belzora Moriah Quinn Smith; sons, Arbuth O. and Ira B. Bumgarner; daughters, Ida Bell and Julia Mae Bumgarner; brothers, Stokes, Elsie and Sam Smith; and sisters, Ottie, Arrie, Vista, Quanita, Veree and Lillie.
She is survived by sons, Rantie “R.O.” Bumgarner and wife, Beverly, of Shelby; daughters, Esther Matthew and husband, William of California; and many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Emma Neal
Died Aug. 19, 2006
Cobb County, Ga. — Emma Hamrick Neal, 74, of Cobb County, died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006.
Mrs. Neal was a native of Shelby and long time resident of Georgia. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service and was a good Samaritan in Pauding and Cobb Counties in Georgia. She was a master gardener and was awarded yard of the month.
She is survived by four sons, Greg Neal of Hartwell, Ga., Scott Neal of South Carolina, David Neal and Mark Neal, both of Canton; a daughter, Vallorie Wood of Lithia Springs, Ga.; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral: Today at 2 p.m. at Medford-Peden Funeral Home, Marietta, Ga.

William Jenkins
Died Aug. 20, 2006
CLIFFSIDE — Mr. William Bryson Jenkins, 79, of Cliffside, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at Rutherford Hospital.
A son of the late Walter Clark and Alma Wall Jenkins, he was born in Cliffside in 1927 and graduated Tri High School. Mr. Jenkins enlisted in the Navy in 1944 and later transferred to the Marine Corps. He was serving as a medical corpsman on the U.S.S. Midway at the end of World War II. In 1947, he joined Haynes Bank, which later became First Citizens Bank and retired as a vice president after 45 years of service. Mr. Jenkins was a dedicated and active member of Cliffside Baptist Church for 56 years, where he taught Sunday School for many years and served in many capacities. He served as Deacon and Chairman of the Board of Deacons. He also served on the Building Committee for the new sanctuary. Mr. Jenkins was president of the P.T.A., Treasurer of Cliffside Fire Department, President of Little League for 10 years and was honored with the distinguished Melvin Jones Fellow Award while involved with the Lions Club. He was an active member of the North Carolina Banker’s Association for many years.
Mr. Jenkins is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Eunice Hames Jenkins; two sons, Roger Michael Jenkins and William Barry Jenkins and wife, Mary Ann. He was a wonderful grandfather to five grandchildren, James Jenkins and wife, Heather, Julie Jenkins, Lindsay Jenkins, Betsy Jenkins and Abby Jenkins and great-grandfather to Georgia and Kaden Jenkins. Two sisters also survive him, Sarah Bridges and Marjorie Jones; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Walter C. Jenkins and two sisters, Virginia Jenkins and Bernice Brindle.

ELLENBORO — Mr. Harry Vernon Honeycutt, 56, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at home.
Mr. Honeycutt was the son of Carme Honeycutt and the late Mary Ann LaBone Honeycutt. He worked as a security agent with F.E.M.A.
He is survived by a half-brother, Jesse Allen of Forest City; a stepbrother, Jerry bailey of Tallahassee, Fla.; and a stepsister, Janice Salinero, of Tallahassee.

Bobby Carrigan

BLACKSBURG, S.C. — Mr. Bobby Gene Carrigan, 71, of 141 Carrigan Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Carrigan was born in Gastonia. He was the husband of Phyllis Dover Carrigan of the home. He was the son of the late Arthur and Eliza Stiles Carrigan. He was a member of Kings Mountain Missionary Methodist Church. He retired from Cyprus Foote Mineral, Kings Mountain and from North Carolina National Guard, 505th Engineer Battalion, Kings Mountain.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Jeff Carrigan of Blacksburg; three daughters, Robin C. Dover and Christy C. Knight, both of Blacksburg and Jada C. Styers of Shelby; three grandchildren, Danielle Cooper, Cody Knight and Nash Styers; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Buell Carrigan, Jim Carrigan and Gerald Carrigan, all of Kings Mountain and Bill Carrigan of Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Faye House and Elaine Parker, both of Kings Mountain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Danny Carrigan.
