Bobby Shepherd
Died Aug. 23, 2006
SHELBY — Mr. Bobby Shepherd, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Shepherd was a native of Cumberland, Ky., the son of the late Bob Pratt and Cinda Shepherd Beck. He had worked in construction and retired from the Army. He served in Korea and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, where he received the Bronze Star.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Richard Shane Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife, Sally Bowers Shepherd of the home; sons, Billy Joe Shepherd and wife, Pat, Scott Shepherd, Patrick Shepherd and wife, Beth, and Enoch Shepherd and wife, Darla, all of Shelby, and Steve Shepherd and wife, Tammy, of Augusta, Ga.; daughters, Marti-Lynn Lucas and husband, Jack, and Cindy Lu James, all of Shelby, and Bobbie Aline Jamison and husband, Jack, of Greenville, S.C.; an uncle, Charlie Shepherd of Shelby; sisters-in-law, Barbara Harvey and husband, Jim, of Mulberry, Ohio, and Betty Billups and husband, Phil, of Largo, Fla.; a brother-in-law, Dick Bowers and wife, Carol, of Salem, Ore.; special friend, Charles Holland of Shelby; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Cleveland Funeral Services.
Funeral: Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Mike Patrick, 47, of 336 Countryside Road, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Mr. Patrick was born in Marion, Ohio, son of the late Vernon Patrick. He attended David Baptist Church and was a certified welder.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Patrick of Kings Mountain; sons, Dwayne Wiggins and Christopher Patrick, both of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Missy Wiggins of Kings Mountain; his mother, Jacqueline Irvine Howell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brothers, Dan Patrick of Cardington, Ohio, John Patrick of New Bloomington, Ohio, and Tim Patrick of St. Petersburg; a sister, Kathy Patrick Baker of St. Petersburg; a granddaughter, Lacy Wiggins; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home.

‘Peggy’ Royster Porter

ATLANTA — Margaret “Peggy” McMurry Royster Porter, 53, passed away at home on Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006.
She was born Nov. 17, 1952, in Shelby. She graduated from Shelby High School in 1971 and Peace College in 1973. She received a B.A. from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1975, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She was presented at Shelby Debutante Ball in 1971 and North Carolina Terpsicorean Ball in Raleigh in 1972.
She formerly worked at Merrill Lynch in Atlanta and co-owned “Fine Feathers,” a ladies clothing boutique. She was preceded in death by her father, David W. Royster Jr.
She is survived by her son, William Sidney “Sid” Porter of Fort Benning, Ga.; her mother, Katherine “Sister” Quinn Mabry of Shelby; sisters, Katherine Royster Burgin and husband, Bobby, of Shelby and Lynn Royster Roach and husband, Tommy, of Raleigh; a brother, David W. Royster III and his wife, Sally, of Shelby; stepmother, Annabelle Z. Royster of Gastonia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday at First Baptist Church of Shelby in the Family Life Center after the service and other times at the home of her mother, 304 Country Club Acres, Shelby.

Raye ‘Smiley’ Bridges

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Raye Junior “Smiley” Bridges, of 112 Idlewood Court, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, at home.
Mr. Bridges retired from Barrett’s Floor Covering and Margrace Mills and was a member of Allen Memorial Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Hamrick Bridges, and his parents, Talmadge Bridges and Laulie McMurry Bridges.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah Bridges and companion, Ernest Spurlin, of Kings Mountain; a brother, Earl Bridges of Kings Mountain; sisters, Ruby Cabiness of Crouse, Lois Williams of Kings Mountain, Tois Wright of Grover, Nicey Barber of Crowders Mountain, and Norma Curry and Audrey Toney, both of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Haley and Austin Spurlin; and a special nephew and friend, Darrell Hamrick and Pat Beatty.

SHELBY — Mrs. Betty Wright White, 66, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2006, at Hospice of Wendover.
Mrs. White was born in Cleveland County and was a graduate of Shelby High School. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was an avid reader.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Doshia Elizabeth Edwards Wright. Mrs. White is survived by her father, James Lawrence Wright; her husband, Robert Martin White; a son, Mark William Melton of Shelby; a daughter, Carol M. Campbell and husband, Keith, of Thomasville; a sister, Dr. Shirley W. Kennedy of Palatka, Fla.; and grandchildren, Sara A. Lanier and Mattie A. Lanier of Thomasville and Tyler W. Melton of Shelby.
