KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Billy Ray “Wirehead” Parris, 52, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Spartanburg, S.C., to Gettys W. Parris of Gaffney, S.C., and Lorena Hammett Moore of Kings Mountain. He was a carpenter.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Belton G. Parris of San Antonio, and sisters, Barbara Parris and Brenda Mote, both of Kings Mountain.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home of his mother, 815-16 Bethlehem Road, Kings Mountain

Margaret Smith

FALLSTON — Mrs. Margaret Spurling Smith, 89, of Fallston, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Summit Place Living Facility.
A native of Cleveland County, Mrs. Smith was retired from Smith Radio and TV Service. She was also a housewife. She was a lifelong member of Fallston Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents, William Buford and Clara Gantt Spurling, and her husband, Hubert Howitt Smith, her sister, Thelma Dixon, and brothers, W.B. Spurling Jr. and Harold Spurling.
She is survived by her son, Howitt Smith, and wife, Hazel, of Lake Greenwood, S.C.; sisters, Lorene Dixon of Lawndale and Osteen Hendrick of Shelby; granddaughters Adriene Morgan and husband, Mark, of Columbia, S.C. and Lisa Pontecorvo and husband, Ryan, of Fresno, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Alex and Kelly Morgan and Logan Pontecorvo.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.

Rev. Furman A. Wright
April 4, 1909 – Sept. 16, 2006
CHERRYVILLE— The Rev. Furman Alexander Wright, 97, formerly of 401 N. Cherry St., went to be with his Lord Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
A native of Catawba County, Wright was a son of the late William Albert and Dillie Willis Wright. Wright was a retired Methodist minister in the Western North Carolina Conference for 33 years. He was a member of the Western North Carolina Conference and attended Bess Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a member of the choir. He was active in his service for the Lord until age 91. Wright’s obedience for God’s calling on his life from a very early age led him to 10 different charges and 34 churches in the United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Wright was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Baxter Wright, two brothers, Walter and W.A. Wright Jr., and two sisters, Viola Matheny and Edna Willis.
He is survived by three brothers, Joseph Wright of Casar, John H. Wright of Lincolnton, and Kenneth Wright of Dallas; and a sister, Nettie W. Wilson of Sumter, S.C.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.
Funeral: Tuesday, 3 p.m. at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church. The body will be placed in the church from 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Marie Wylie
May 5, 1916 – Sept. 16, 2006
SHELBY — Mrs. Marie Davis Wylie, 90, of 329-3 Lamar Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late John O. and Georgia Jones Davis.
Mrs. Wylie was retired from J.P. Stevens after 38 years of service. She was an active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Triple L. Senior Citizens Club, Singles Club, Ladies Bible Class and Handbells. She was also a volunteer at Cleveland Regional Medical Center. She enjoyed caring for others, and was known for her talent and love of sewing and her fried apple pies.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Madison Wylie and a sister, Juanita McSwain.
She is survived by a son, Gayle Madison Wylie and wife, Ann Carlton Wylie, of Charlotte; a daughter, Joyce Wylie Gardner and husband, Hazel Allen Gardner, of Shelby; five grandchildren, Robin Wylie Weaver, Stephen Carlton Wylie, John Madison Wylie, David Allen Gardner and Roger Wylie Gardner; and 10 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Weaver, David Weaver, John Weaver, Andrew Gardner, Adam Gardner, Samuel Gardner, Emily Gardner, Allison Gardner, Isabella Wylie and Nathaniel Wylie.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Hazel Gardner, 1343 Belinda Drive, Shelby.
Funeral: Tuesday, 2 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service

Walter Richards
Feb. 23, 1933 – Sept. 30, 2006
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Walter Garfield Richards, 73, of 925 Church St. died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, Mr. Richards was the son of the late Andy Flay and Mary Iva Hoyle Richards and was retired from Schenk Co. of Orlando, Fla., as a warehouse supervisor. He served as a sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Lounell Ives.
Mr. Richards is survived by his wife of 51 years, Colleen Hayes Richards of the home; his sons, Brent Richards and wife, Angela and Andy Richards, all of Orlando; and his daughters, Lisa Richards Korch and husband, Joe, and Bonnie Richards Sanders and husband, Philip, all of Kings Mountain. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
