Carolyn Searcy Moore, age 70, of Spindale, NC, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Rutherford Hospital.
Carolyn was born October 24, 1940 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Daniel E. Searcy and Annie Hutchins Searcy. She was a homemaker who enjoyed sharing Christian poetry with her friends and family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin Searcy and Bryson Searcy.
Survivors include two daughters, Cylda M. Christian and Phyllis M. Burnette both of Forest City; five sons, Johnny “Dee” Searcy of Forest City, Alvin L. Vickers and George W. Vickers, Jr. both of Rutherfordton, Danny R. Moore and Buddy T. Vickers of North Carolina; three brothers, Dewey E. Searcy and Jerry D. Searcy both of Spindale, and Carl D. Searcy of Rutherfordton; two sisters, Vivian D. Wright of Ellenboro and Phyllis J. Warren of Old Fort, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Joan Humphries Harris

Joan Humphries Harris, age 77, of Heritage Village, Forest City, NC, died Monday, September 19, 2011 at Holly Springs Rest Home.
Joan was born April 24, 1934 in Rutherford County, NC to the late Archie Humphries, Sr. and Mary Helen Beason Humphries. She worked in textiles for many years and owned and operated Flowers by Jo in Six Points for several years. She loved designing flowers and most of all taking trips to the beach. She was also devoted to taking care of her ailing brother, Steve. She enjoyed life!
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 29 years, Franklin D. Harris; four brothers, Dan Humphries, Steve Humphries, Buddy Humphries, Jimmy Humphries and one sister, Sara Lou Wright.
Survivors include one son, Terry Joe Harris and wife, Kathy of Cliffside; two grandchildren, Matt Harris and wife, Kaye and Nicole Harris all of Cliffside; two great grandchildren, Faith Harris and Andrew Harris; two brothers, Archie Humphries, Jr. and wife, Carolyn of Six Points and Larry Humphries and wife Thresa of Boiling Springs, NC; two sister in-laws, Peggy Humphries of Huntersville, NC and Barbara Humphries of Cliffside. She is also survived by special friends, Troy and Cathy Stanley of Union Mills, Mary Emory of Ellenboro, Trina Hoyle of Forest City, Ted and Millie Williams of Spartanburg and Ann Bridges.
Joyce Ann Henson Sams

Joyce Ann Henson Sams, age 68, of Big Island Road, Forest City, NC, died Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Joyce was born March 14, 1943 in Spartanburg County, SC to the late George Henson and Ada Louise Petty. She was a graduate of Chase High School, class of 1960, and received a Masters Degree in Psychology from Gardner-Webb University in 1999. She also attended and graduated from Isothermal Community College and Converse College. She was a social worker and child psychologist for over 20 years, having worked for the PATH Shelter, Hospice, Rutherford Hospital and Home Care Management. She and her late husband, William took care of over 50 foster children throughout the years. She was also a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church. Joyce’s life was full of love for others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, William Reid Sams.
Survivors include her two sons, Scott Sams and wife, Ruth of Rutherfordton and Tony Sams and wife, Terri of Lake Wylie, SC; an adopted daughter, April Stephens and husband, Wesley of Caroleen; one brother, Don Henson of Sandy Mush and one sister, Ann Hyder of Rutherfordton. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Rachel Sams, Sarah Sams, Daniel Sams, Vanna Sams, Gretta Sams, Alana Whelchel, Alex Whelchel and Darrin Whelchel.
Betty Wells Mollohan
December 10, 1932 - August 24, 2007
Betty Wells Mollohan, age 74, passed away Friday, August 24, 2007 at the Brian Center in Hendersonville, NC. Mrs. Mollohan was born December 10, 1932 in Ellenboro, NC to the late Glenn Thomas Wells, Sr. and Margaret Lowery Wells. She grew up in Rutherford County having also spent time in Ohio and Florida as an adult. She had worked for Burlington Industries as a spinner. She was Pentecostal in faith. She was preceded in death by her husband William Mollohan in 1996.
Survivors include a son, Steven Mollohan of Forest City; a daughter, Janet Gandy of Mooresboro; a brother, G. T. Wells, Jr., of Henrietta; and a sister, Rueleen Wease of Henrietta. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Jina Gandy and Michelle Bewley and a great-granddaughter, Ava Bewley.

KINSTON — Mr. Claude L. Barrett died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006, at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Queen Barrett; a son, Joseph Brooks Barrett; a daughter, Betsy and husband, Donald McCarrick; and two grandchildren, Alexander and Kristin McCarrick.

Joey Bell

SHELBY — Mr. Joey Bell, 85, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Bell was born in Monticello, Ga., a son of the late Joseph Bell and Ada Glover Bell. He was a faithful and active member of Palmer Grove Baptist Church until his illness. He loved the outdoors and was a farmer for many years. After farming, he hauled pulpwood for several years until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening and was an avid baseball fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sons, Joe Henry “Sonny” Bell and Calvin Bell; brothers, James “Buddy” Bell, Lee “Blue” Bell and Roy Bell; and sisters, Estelle “Sister” Haynes and Lizzie “Doll” Thurman.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ada Stroud Bell of Shelby; a son, Ernest Bell and wife, Diane, of Shelby; daughter-in-law, Germaine Bell of Shelby; three daughters, Catherine Bell and Mary Hunt, both of Baltimore, and Edna Kee of the home; a sister, Callie Norris of Baltimore; and a brother-in-law, Willie Thurman. He also leaves to cherish 22 grandchildren; 66 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at his daughter’s home at 112 Kingsview Ave., Apple Hill Acres, Shelby.
Funeral: Thursday at 2 p.m. at Palmer Grove Baptist Church, Kingstown; the body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Edward Detter, 67, of 2065 Bethlehem Road, died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, at home.
Mr. Detter was born in Gaston County, a son of the late Ernest Detter and Eva Costner Detter. He attended Landmark Baptist Church in Gastonia and was owner and operator of Detter Machine Shop in Kings Mountain. He was a loving father and grandfather.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Detter, and a sister, Becky Ghorley.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Black Detter of Kings Mountain; sons, Ronnie Detter and wife, Trudy, and Mark Detter, all of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Phyllis Farish and husband, Michael, of Gastonia; a brother, Lester Detter of Crouse; three sisters, Pauline Croft of Bessemer City and Shirley Stilwell and Patricia Detter, both of Gastonia; four grandchildren, Jessica Detter Bridges and husband, John, of Shelby and Justin Detter, Cynthia Detter and Matthew Farish, all of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Bryson Tre Bridges and Brooklyn Jade Bridges.

SHELBY — Ms. Marion Norris Zieber, 88, of Shelby Manor, formerly of Gastonia, died Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Marlboro County, S.C., a daughter of the late Jacob Marion and Bessie Gunter Norris. She was a bookkeeper for Rutland National Bank in Florida and a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed needlework.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Gene Norris, Joe Norris and Alton Norris; and sisters, Louise Morss, Josephine Norris and Muriel Norris.
She is survived by a daughter, Judy and husband, Charles Eslinger, of Shelby; sisters, Barbara and husband, Curt Long, of Gastonia and Lynda and husband, Ralph Cross, of Iron Station; grandchildren, Beth and Chris Copley of Charlotte and Amy and Chip Jones of Shelby; stepgreat-grandchildren, Hunter Jones and Savannah Jones, both of Shelby; niece, Kim Walker of Cliffside; and nephew, Michael Hopper of Dublin, Va.

Luz Campbell
Died Sept. 17, 2006
NEW YORK — Mrs. Luzviminda “Luz” Francisco Campbell, 33, passed away Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, in New York City from complications of lupus.
She was the beloved wife of Douglas Campbell, formerly of Shelby and the daughter-in-law of Bill and Kathie Campbell of Shelby.
Also surviving are brothers-in-law, Craig Campbell of Shelby and Scott Campbell of Huntersville; sister-in-law, Melanie Campbell Stebbins of Madison, Wis., and Mary Campbell Fowler of Fayetteville. She is also survived by her mother and a sister in the Philippines and a sister in Hong Kong.
Burial will be at her home in the Philippines. A memorial service will be held later at St. Paul the Apostle in New York City.
