GROVER — The Rev. Marvin Burris, 66, of 1227 Cleveland Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at 625 Chapel Drive in Shelby
Funeral: Arrangements will be announced by Genesis Funeral Service.

Norman Lee Francis
June 28, 1918 – Feb. 10, 2007
SHELBY — Mr. Norman Lee Francis, 88, of 210 Seattle St., died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Harley Lee Francis and Lala Belle Ellis Francis.
Mr. Francis was retired from Bost Bakery where he worked for 33 years. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae George Francis, and brother, Jack Francis.
He is survived by a son, Bill Francis and wife, Kathrine, of Shelby; daughters, Margaret A. Freeman and friend, Joe McCurry, of Union Mills, Carolyn Keeter of Shelby, Sandy Francis of Charlotte and Lynn Francis of Shelby; brothers, Clem Francis of Shelby and Carl Albert Francis of Rains, S.C.; sisters, Mary Lee Herman of Granite City, Ill., Mildred Hoffman of Kill Devil Hill, Ruby Hamrick of North Augusta, S.C. and Shirley Sailors of Gastonia; grandchildren, William David Freeman, Lisa Ann Freeman, Robert Scott Freeman, Eric William Keeter, Amy Nicole Francis, Linda Denise Francis, Donna Lee Campbell and Robert Douglas Francis. He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services.

Ruth Palmer
Died Feb. 10, 2007
SHELBY — Mrs. Ruth Price Blanton Palmer, 91, of 118 Lattimore St., Apt. 1, passed away peacefully at home with family on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Cleo Greer Price. She was a retired department manager for Kings Department Store. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and former member of the Golden Links Sunday school class and the Alter Guild.
She was a loving, caring and generous person who enjoyed being with her family and friends. She will also be remembered for her politeness, friendliness and putting others first.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ithiel Blanton; second husband, Ben C. Palmer; sister, Irene Whitworth; sister-in-law, Inez McIntyre.
She is survived by her daughters, Glenda and husband, Donald McGinnis, of Lincolnton and Sarah McSwain and husband, Randy, of Mount Gilead; stepson, Tom Palmer; grandchildren, Mark McGinnis and wife, Jennifer, of Denver, Ellen McGinnis Fenters and husband, Bruce, of Iron Station, Amy McSwain of Charlotte and Joel McSwain of Asheville.
Visitation: The family will receive friends one hour before the service and at Ruth’s home, 118 Lattimore St., Shelby.
Funeral: Monday at 11 a.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel

BOSTIC — Mrs. Ethel Washburn Magness, 93, of S. Main Street, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at home.

Bobby Bridges
Died Feb. 9, 2007
LANDRUM, S.C. — Mr. Bobby Lee Bridges, 69, of 104 W. Bridges St., died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, after a short illness.
Born in Polk County, he was the son of Jean “Granny” Fagan Bridges of Green Creek and the late Woodrow Bridges.
He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina. Mr. Bridges was a retired personnel manager. He was a member of Landrum Masonic Lodge No. 278 where he was a past Master and past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 169, Inman, S.C. Mr. Bridges was a member of Landrum First Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Bridges, who died in 2001.
Surviving, in addition to his mother are two sons, Brett Bridges and wife, Kelly, of Boiling Springs and Blake Bridges and wife Vicki, of Green Creek; two brothers, Bill Bridges of Green Creek and Jim Bridges of Columbus; grandson, Matt Bridges.
Visitation: The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at Landrum First Baptist Church.

HOPE MILLS — Mrs. Mary Brisson Raybon, 90, of 3016 Bryant Circle, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Highsmith-Rainey Hospital in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Raybon was preceded in death by her parents, James and Lula West Brisson; her husband, Ralph Raybon; her sons, Ronald and Charles Raybon and a brother, Joe Brisson.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Jackson of Hope Mills and Rosemary Melton of Shelby; sister, Martha Terry of Laurinburg; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jesse Hoyle Kanipe
Nov. 17, 1920 – Feb. 11, 2007
ELLENBORO — Mr. Jesse Hoyle Kanipe, 86, died Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mr. Kanipe was born on Nov. 17, 1920, in Cleveland County to the late Z.L. Kanipe and Jesse Belle Laughridge Kanipe. He lived most of his life in Rutherford County.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. After the war, he returned to Rutherford County where he went to work for Stonecutter, eventually retiring as a weave room supervisor after 40 years.
He was Methodist in faith. He was a member of the Spindale Masonic Lodge and past member of the Order of Eastern Star Ellenboro Chapter. He was an avid reader and loved to fish.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janette, after 56 years of marriage; a daughter, Roberta Lee; two brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by three daughters, Shirley Moore and husband, Charles, of Mill Spring, Clydean Lee and husband, Joe, of Gaffney, S.C., and Marsha Byers and husband, Dwight, of Ellenboro; one sister, Hassie Bowman of Shelby; two brothers, Clayton Kanipe of Dallas and the Rev. Joe Kanipe of Cliffside; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends today from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home. At other times, the family will be at the home of Tommy and Renee Toney.
Graveside service: Today at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church cemetery
Officiated by: His brother, the Rev. Joe Kanipe, with military honors by the Veterans Honor Guard of Rutherford County

Annie Wright
Dec. 1, 1914 – Feb. 11, 2007
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Annie Elizabeth Leonhardt Wright, 92, of 1138 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, at home.
A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Sylvanus Nepoleon Leonhardt and Martha Olivine Wright Leonhardt. She was a homemaker and a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Hatley Wright Sr.; a son, Jack Wright; three brothers, Van, Beeler and Warren Leonhardt; and a sister, Beddie Buff.
She is survived by a son, Horace Hatley Wright Jr and wife, Nancy, of Vale; daughters, Joreka “Jo” Davis and husband, Larry, of Shelby, Prue Whitaker and husband, Roy, of Mooresboro, and Sue Peeler and husband, Don, of Lawndale; daughter-in-law, Barbara Wright of Lawndale; special friend, Candace Mull of Lawndale; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home of Don and Sue Peeler, 1207 W. Stagecoach Trail, Lawndale.
Funeral: Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel
Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park
