SHELBY — Mr. John Edward Plank Jr., 66, of First Broad Road, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Bluff City, Tenn., and was formerly a mechanic and truck driver. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Bluff City. He was a very loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his father, John Edward Plank Sr.; mother, Vergie Lee Hicks Plank; daughter, Deborah Jean Plank; brothers, G.L. Plank, Paul Plank and H.C. Plank; and sister, Edna Roberts.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Lou Hagy Plank; sons, Michael Lee Plank and wife, Nancy, of Shelby, David Allen Plank and wife, Gina, of Wasilla, Alaska, and George Edward “Eddie” Plank and wife, Allison, of Mooresboro; daughters, Teresa Sigmon and husband, Roger, of Maiden, Elizabeth Jolley and husband, Gary, of Boiling Springs, Vickie Toney and husband, Danny, of Forest City, and Pamela Greene and husband, Ronnie, of Boiling Springs; brothers, Shirley “Pete” Plank and wife, Lena, of Bluff City and Franklin Lee Plank and wife, Betty, of Shelby; sisters, Mollie “Polly” Ball of Winston-Salem and Margaret Turner of Bluff City; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and a special pet dog, Toto.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

RUTHERFORDTON — Ms. Betty Carrier, 79, of 116 Riley Court, passed away on Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Rutherford Hospital.

James ‘Jim’ Wright
Died Feb. 14, 2007
KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. James Ray “Jim” Wright, 77, of 405 Chestnut Ridge Church Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at home.
He was born in Anderson County, S.C., son of the late James T. and Eula Gilstrap Wright. He was vice president and plant manager in the textile industry with Burlington Industries, J.P. Stevens, Danville Industry and Doran Mills. He was owner and operator of Jim Wright Corp., setting up textile plants in the United States and abroad. He studied his Bible avidly, having read through it five times, studying different versions. He received a diploma from the Institute of Biblical Studies, Liberty University, at 72. He was present owner and operator of Jim’s Small Engines in Kings Mountain. He served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jennifer Wright.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn Short Wright of Kings Mountain; sons, Larry Ray Wright and wife, Roxanne, and Danny Wright and wife, Terri, all of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Kathy Bridges and husband, Tony, of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Heather W. Seiler, Christopher Wright, Michael Ashley and Jamie Smith; stepgrandchildren, Ashley Seawright, Chris Powell, Chad Wade and Jamie Bagwell; great-grandson, Jonathan Seiler; a brother, Leroy Wright and wife, Joyce, of Cocoa, Fla.; and a sister, Mary Sue Tillstson and husband, Carl, of Cocoa Beach, Fla.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Funeral: Saturday at 2 p.m. at Yorkwood Church of God, Gastonia
Burial: Mountain Rest cemetery

Eunice Faulkner
June 11, 1917 – Feb. 13, 2007
CHARLOTTE — Eunice Arnold Faulkner, 89, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, from complications of a stroke. Her son, Don, and daughter-in-law, Monica, were with her at her death.
Born to John B. and Florence Lamb Arnold in Lexington on June 11, 1917, she was the widow of the Rev. Dr. A. Mitchell Faulkner, a minister with the Western N.C. Conference of the United Methodist Church.
She attended public schools in Lexington and graduated from Brevard College in Brevard and Scarritt College of Nashville, Tenn., with a degree in social work. She and Mitch met while students at Brevard and married following their graduations from Scarritt and Wofford. While he studied at Emery Divinity School, she worked for social services in Atlanta. Following World War II, she served with her husband at churches on the “Prospect appointment” (below Monroe), the Harrison charge, which included Marvin, Harrison and Pineville, and Concord, Leaksville (now Eden), Shelby, Lexington and finally at Myers Park United Methodist Church in Charlotte. She also worked for social services in both Cleveland and Davidson counties.
She would be the first to tell you of the richness of the life and the wonderful people brought through the churches and communities. Until her death, she remained in touch with friends from all cities and towns in which they had lived. She was blessed with the ability to remain independent, active and involved in her church, family and community. Her favorite activity was the Wednesday fellowship dinner at church, and she loved sharing with all the adventures of her children and grandchildren. Her life was devoted to her faith, her family and her friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Wilma, and brother, John D.
She is survived by one brother, Robert B. of Charlotte; her three children, John M. Faulkner of Franklin, Tenn.; Susan F. Duncan and husband, Ernie, of Bristol, N.H., and Donald F. Faulkner and wife, Monica, of Charlotte. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lyla J. D. Adkins of Center Barnstead, N.H., John M. Faulkner Jr. of Spring Hill, Tenn., Deb Scruggs of Lynchburg, Va., Gene Cowart of Christiana, Tenn., Lauren Faulkner-Duncan of Madison, Wis., James D. Duncan of Bristol, and Lindsay Faulkner and Katie Faulkner, both of Charlotte, and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship and remembrance in Jubilee Hall of Myers Park United Methodist Church.
Funeral: Friday at 2 p.m. at Myers Park United Methodist Church; the body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
Burial: Evergreen cemetery in Charlotte

W. Jennings Cook
Aug. 27, 1936 – Feb. 13, 2007
CHERRYVILLE — Mr. W. Jennings Cook, 70, of 1004 Ranbar St., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born in Cherryville Aug. 27, 1936, a son of the late John Aaron and Lillian Lou Emma Lee Cook. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, a retired electrologist and member of the Greater Piedmont Electrologist Association and a former Boy Scout leader, where he received a Wood Badge.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Janelle Tate Cook and a brother, Bruce Cook.
He is survived by a daughter, Cynthia Cook of Cherryville; a son, Warren Cook and wife, Amy, of Cherryville; granddaughter, Hannah Cook of Cherryville; and a sister, Janet Boone of Charlotte.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Funeral: Saturday at 11 a.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home

Joe ‘Bill’ Cantrell
Died Feb. 13, 2007
HENRIETTA — Mr. Joe William “Bill” Cantrell, 72, of 113 Carefree Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, at home.
Born in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Hazel Cantrell Doggett. He worked in textiles and was a member of Haynes Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Frye Cantrell, and second wife, Doris Bridges Cantrell.
He is survived by two daughters, Laura Harris and husband, Ricky, of Forest City and Robin McCraw and husband, Mickey, of Mooresboro, and a grandson, Chris Byland.
Visitation: The family will receive friends at the home of Robin and Mickey McCraw, 2340 McCraw Road, Mooresboro.
Funeral: Graveside Friday at 11 a.m. in Cleveland Memorial Park
