June 10, 1937 – Feb. 13, 2007
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mr. Lee Brooklyn Earl, 69, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2007, in Washington, D.C.
He was born June 10, 1937, in Cleveland County to the late George and Elene Roberts Earl. “Brook,” as he was known, united with Washington Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and served faithfully. He graduated from Washington High School, where he was a great competitive athlete in baseball and basketball. He also attended North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro. He later moved to Washington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Herbert and Walter Earl, and one son.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, two sisters, Mary M. Earl of Kings Mountain and Zullie E. Lilly (Robert) of Durham; two brothers, the Rev. Dr. Roosevelt Earl (Dorothy) of Bessemer City and James A. Earl of San Francisco; three nieces; seven nephews; three aunts, Omia E. Roberts and Mary R. Wilson, both of Shelby, and Cleo R. Wilson of Kings Mountain; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church and other times at the home of the Rev. Roosevelt Earl, 115 Za Hunter Road, Bessemer City.
Funeral: Saturday at 1 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church

Lonnie Mae Yount
March 23, 1930 – Feb. 14, 2007
ELLENBORO — Ms. Lonnie Mae “Lona Mae” Yount, 76, of 5337 Brooks Chapel Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Autumn Care.
She was born in Rutherford County, a daughter of the late Noah Hartzell Yount and Minnie Jane Toney Yount. She was a homemaker and attended Morris Memorial Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, James, Hazel, Golden, Bufford and Griffin Yount, and two sisters, Melissa Holtzclaw and Ethel Lee Yount.
She is survived by a brother, Fet Yount and wife, Ruth, of Casar; two sisters-in-law, Christine Yount of Bostic and Rosielee Yount of Forest City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Funeral: Saturday at 2 p.m. at Morris Memorial Baptist Church; the body will be placed in the church at 1:30

Died Feb. 14, 2007
GASTONIA — Mary Lib Hulick, 91, of Gastonia, formerly of Shelby, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Funeral: Palmer Mortuary will announce arrangements.

Eva Arrowood
July 31, 1924 – Feb. 14, 2007
HENRIETTA — Ms. Eva McCraw Arrowood, 82, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Hospice Residence of Rutherford County.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home.
Funeral: Saturday at 3 at Harrelson Funeral Home Chapel

Mary Lib Hulick
Died Feb. 14, 2007
GASTONIA — Mrs. Mary Lib Hulick, 91, of 1215 Jackson Road, Gastonia, formerly of Shelby, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Born in Maiden, Mrs. Hulick was the daughter of the late Charles Osborne and Mary Alva Whitner Murray. She was a homemaker and a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bub” Hulick.
Mrs. Hulick is survived by a daughter, Jane H. Henson and husband, Tom, of Gastonia; sister-in-law, Ann McCachren of Charlotte; brother-in-law, Robert Hulick of California; five nieces and three nephews; three grandchildren, Kyle Merrill of Kings Mountain, Thomas Henson Jr. of Darlington, S.C., and Kirklen Henson of New York; and five great-grandchildren, Dani Merrill of Kings Mountain; Kris Lang of Bolonga, Italy, Meghan Henson, Sarah Henson and Anna Henson, all of Darlington.
The family would like to express thanks to the staff of Alexandria Place for the excellent care Mrs. Hulick received while there.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Sunday after the service.

Dick Baughman
May 11, 1920 – Feb. 16, 2007
SHELBY — Mr. Richard David Baughman, 86, of 3455 Fallston Road, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at White Oak Manor.
Mr. Baughman was born in Licking County, Ohio, a son of the late Cary Baughman and Clara Kreager Baughman. He retired from General Motors as a supervisor in 1988 before moving to Blacksburg, S.C. in 1989. He was a lifetime member of Shelby Moose Lodge and D.A.V. of Shelby. Mr. Baughman served in the Army as a sergeant machine gun expert during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Houston Baughman; three stepdaughters, Linda Ashley, Sherri Textor and Donna Hoffman; three brothers, Donald, Robert and Bill Jo Baughman; and a sister, Mary Flick.
He is survived by stepdaughter, Joyce Cordova and husband, Gilbert, of Tirre Amarille, N.M., and brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Baughman of Fife, Wash.

Richard Howard
Aug. 30, 1929 – Feb. 14, 2007
SHELBY — Mr. Richard Lee “Dick” Howard, 77, of Holden Beach, formerly of Shelby, died Feb. 14, 2007, at Catawba Valley Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
He was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Rockford, Ill., a son of the late Harry and Edith Howard. Dick was a retired auto salesman and owner of Magic Motors in Shelby. He was a veteran of the Air Force and was a non-commissioned officer, a Mason and had attended Lafayette Street United Methodist Church in Shelby.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Howard.
Survivors include three sons, Tom Howard of Charlotte, Robert Howard and wife, Donna and Paul Howard and wife, Donna, both of Shelby; and two daughters, Cathy Cain of Hickory and Doris Jones and husband, Randy, of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Edith Colvin and Beverly Wagner and husband, Bill, both of Rockford Ill.; and a brother, Robert Bruce Howard and wife, Deena, of Las Vegas
Visitation: The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at Carpenter’s Funeral Home.
Funeral: Sunday at 3 p.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Mary Frances Bridges Plonk, 65, of 210 North Roxford Road, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lincoln County, she was retired from Baker Family Dental Practice and was a co-owner of Furniture Outlet of Cherryville. She was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Plonk was preceded in death by her parents, Golden B. and Addie Tutherow Bridges, and a brother, Joe Bridges.
She is survived by her husband, Wray Plonk of Kings Mountain; son, Timothy “Tim” Plonk and wife, Rebecca, of Kings Mountain; daughter, Kelly P. Humphries and husband, Tom, of Clover, S.C.; sister, Joyce B. Plumely of Kings Mountain; sister-in-law, Darlene Bridges; six grandchildren, Alex Plonk, Nikki Plonk, Ryan Treece, Ashton Treece, Payton Humphries and Jessie Cain.
Visitation: The family will receive friends 7 to 9 Wednesday night at Harris Funeral Home.
