CASAR — Mrs. Elizabeth Florene Morris Bridges, 90, of 403 Moriah Church Road, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Bridges was born in Cleveland County to the late Robert Lowder Morris and Zula Etta Ledford Morris. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Colon Fred Bridges; an infant son; and a brother, Howard Morris.
She is survived by daughters, Jo Ann Floyd and husband, Dean, of Shelby, Jackie Sisk and husband, James, of Shelby and Judy Bridges of the home; brothers, Carl Morris and R.L. Morris Jr., both of Morganton; sisters, Nannie Hunt of Casar, Margie Newton of Drexel and Jennie Roper of Morganton; grandsons, Jimmy Sisk of Shelby and Neal Floyd and wife, Karen, of Cornelius; granddaughters, Gale Collins and husband, Mike, of Belmont, Rhonda Kiser and husband, Tim, of Shelby and Tammy Ledbetter and husband, Clark, of Shelby; great-grandchildren, Cortlan Allen, Caroline Allen, Olivia Ledbetter, Madison Ledbetter, Colby Kiser, Luke Ledbetter, Zachary Ledbetter and Cade Ledbetter, all of Shelby and Matthew Floyd of Cornelius.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home
Funeral: Friday at 4 p.m. at Morris Memorial Baptist Church; body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service

William A. Cabaniss
March 22, 1911 -July 2, 2006
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill.—William A. Cabaniss, 95, of Lawrenceville passed away early Sunday morning at the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Cabaniss was born March 22, 1911, in Shelby to the late Lawson A. and Lillian Kendrick Cabaniss.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Seed Cabaniss.
He is survived by his wife, Betty R. Phillippe Cabaniss; a daughter, Janet Cabaniss of Lexington, Ken.; a step-daughter-in-law, Dorothy Alsman of Lawrenceville; two step-granddaughters and their husbands; three step-great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe London
Died July 4, 2006
SHELBY — Mr. Joe Alston London, 74, of 1307 N. Lafayette St., died Tuesday, July 4, 2006. at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Mr. London was a native of Cleveland County and a son of the late, Everett A. London and Lillie Hoyle London. He was a retired truck driver and worked in the Esther Mill office. He was in the Army and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Clover Hill United Methodist Church and was a member of the D.A.V.
He is survived by his former wife, Marilyn Logsdon of Shelby; a son, Joe London Jr. and wife, Mitzi, of Boone; daughters, Donna Tessener and husband, Marvin, of Shelby and Penny London of Shelby; a brother, Jimmy London and wife, Brenda, of Lattimore; sisters, Martha Newton of Petersburg, Va., Annie Ruth Bridges of Polkville, Nellie Crowder and husband, Warren, of Lattimore, Mary Farmer of Shelby and Rosetta Walker and husband, Raymond, of Casar; grandchildren, Shaun Stroup of Shelby, Nicholas London of Boone, Josh Tessener of Shelby, Kathryn London of Boone, Johnathon Byers of Shelby and Brandon Luckado of Shelby; and great-grandchildren, Adam Lane Stroup and Cayden McKenzie Stroup, both of Shelby.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services and other times at 510 Shuford Drive, Shelby.

FOREST CITY — Mr. Edgar Crawford “Red” Gordon, 74, of 170 Longview Drive, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Hospice House of Forest City.

Dr. Merrill Yeomans
Aug. 3, 1919-July 5, 2006
SHELBY — Dr. Merrill Brooks “Doc” Yeomans, 86, died peacefully July 5, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 3, 1919 in Grand Forks, N.D. to the late Henry Evan Yeomans and Bernice Fields Yeomans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Sue Watkins Yeomans.
He began his career as a medical corpsman in the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater in World War II. Following the war, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he received his undergraduate and medical degrees. He spent his internship in Galveston, Texas, then moved his family to Cleveland County to begin his private practice in general medicine in 1952. He retired from private practice in 1993 but continued working at the county health department until 1995.
Dr. Yeomans was a man of many passions. He was a scratch golfer, expert gardener, avid photographer and reader, travel aficionado and ice cream connoisseur. He loved his family and extended family of patients and their many children he delivered.
He is survived by his four children, daughter, Becky Yeomans and husband, Tom Jones; daughter, Alice Hill and husband, Barry; a son, Edmund Brooks Yeomans; daughter, Suzy Jamieson and husband, Mark; and five grandchildren, Erin Hill, Leigh Jones, Anna Jones, Kevin Jamieson and David Jamieson.
Funeral: Thursday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park

Odus Baker
Died June 30, 2006
SHELBY — Mr. Odus Sonny Gerald Baker, 67, of 423 E. Graham St. Apt. 40-E, departed this life on Friday, June 30, 2006, at home.
Mr. Baker was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Cleveland County to Mrs. Lulabelle Baker and the late Odus Eskridge. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School, a former employee of Lineberger Cab Co. and an Army veteran.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ben and Mary Herring.
He is survived by his mother Mrs. Lulabelle Baker of Shelby; three daughters, Gail B. McCluney, Jackie B. McDowell (Damon) of Shelby and Genene B. Tate (Freddie) of Gaffney, S.C.; two sons, Daryl K. Baker (Rhonda) of Shelby and Odus Oglesby; two aunts, Barbara Oates and Minnie Thomas, both Conn.; Thomas Herring and William Billy Herring of Shelby; a special niece, Debra Hicks of Savannah, Ga.; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the home.

Mattie Bridges
Died July 5, 2006
SHELBY — Mattie Hawkins Bridges, 90, of 1107 Double Springs Church Road, died Wednesday, July 5, 2006, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
She was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John Winslow Hawkins and Finette Wiggins Hawkins; daughters, Elizabeth B. Holtzclaw and Rachel B. Proctor; and sons, Charles Bridges and J. B. Bridges.
She is survived by sons, Michael Bridges and wife, Pam, and James Bridges of Ellenboro and Roy Bridges of the home; daughters, Annette B. Blanton of Shelby and Amelia B. Robbins of Thomasville; sisters, Martha B. Rudisill and husband, Lester, of Forest City and Lalage Gossett and husband, Dewey, of Chesnee, S. C.; sixteen grandchildren; thirty-one great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 1:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and other times at the home of grandson Nathan Blanton, 1220 Washburn Switch Road, Shelby.

Larry Lefevers Sr.
May 22, 1943 - July 2, 2006
BESSEMER CITY — Mr. Larry Wayne Lefevers Sr., 63, of 107 Sharon Ave., passed away Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1943, in Trenton, N.J., to the late Lawson Perry Lefevers and the late Evelyn Brown Lefevers. He was a member of Trinity Church of the Living God in Kings Mountain and a Vietnam veteran, serving three years in the Navy and two in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Perry and Maude Lefevers; four uncles, Ross Lefevers, Mack Lefevers, Gene Lefevers and Bryant Lefevers, who were all of Kings Mountain.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Short Lefevers of the home; a son, Larry Wayne Lefevers Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Stephanie Welch and husband, Lee, of Dallas, N.C.; a sister, Diane Hemmings and husband, Larry, of Georgia; two aunts, Ruby Davenport of Kings Mountain and Bessie Cobb of Cherryville; an uncle, J.D. Lefevers of Grover; three grandsons, Joshua Lefevers, Zachary Welch and Matthew Grigg; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

TALLASSEE, aLA. — The Rev. Ernest “Buddy” Raymond Oliver Jr., 53, of 86579 Tallassee Highway, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

VISITATION: The family received friends Saturday at Pisgah Baptist Church Family Life Center.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of Peggy Davis Horn of Polkville and the late Floyd Coleman Horn. He was the priest in charge of the Church of the Epiphany in Tallassee. He was known for his love and commitment to his church. The Rev. Oliver did extensive volunteer work with substance abuse rehabilitation, which included counseling and teaching at the Alabama School of Alcoholic and Drug Studies to recertify addiction counselors. He was invited and presented several Bible studies for the judges and staff of the Alabama Supreme Court. The Rev. Oliver formerly pastored at Mull’s Memorial Baptist Church of Connelly Springs, Bethel Baptist Church of South Port, Trinity Episcopal of Wheaton, Ill., St. Thomas Episcopal of Greenville, Ala., and served on the staff at the Holy Comforter Episcopal in Montgomery, Ala. He was involved with a mission trip to South Korea. He was a member of Casar Masonic Lodge No. 579 and a former member of Casar Volunteer Fire Department.
