BURIAL: Race Path Baptist Church cemetery with military Honors by the Rutherford County Honor Guard
VISITATION: The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Rutherford County, the Rev. Ballard was a son of the late Henry and Nettie Martin Ballard. He was a member of Race Path Baptist Church. He pastored churches in Wilkes, McDowell, Cleveland and Rutherford Counties. He was a WWII Army veteran and served in Belgium, Germany, France, England, Holland and Normandy. He was the recipient of a Bronze Star and The Purple Heart.

Lawndale — Mrs. Clara Waldrep Elliott “Shorty,” of Casar-Lawndale Road, was called home to be with God on Saturday, June 10, 2006.

BURIAL: Rose Hill Memorial Park
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Stamey Funeral Home.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Arley, Ala., Mrs. Elliott moved to Hialeah, Fla., where she worked and met her husband, Clayton Dewey Elliott. She was a homemaker and a devoted mother to their son, David. After his retirement from Florida Power and Light, they returned to his home in Lawndale, where they enjoyed gardening and the country. Clara could turn tears to laughter with her quick wit. Farewell to a beautiful mother, sister, aunt and friend. We love you.

Mavis Peacock
Oct. 9, 1931 - June 11, 2006
NORFOLK, Va. — Mavis Sara Wortman Peacock, 74, died peacefully at Sentara Leigh Hospital and went to be with the Lord the morning of Sunday, June 11, 2006.
FUNERAL: A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Casar, Mavis was born Oct. 9, 1931 to the late Lester and Minta Wortman. She and her family resided in Fairfax, Va. for 30 years. After 8 years in Mechanicsville, Va., she and her husband moved to the Hampton Roads area in 1997 to the delight of their daughter and three of their grandchildren.
Although Mavis was kind and caring to all, her family was the focus of her life. She and her family shared many gatherings centered around her wonderful cooking. She knew everyone’s favorites and thoughtfully prepared them with love. Mavis was a gifted gardener and blessed the world with her beautifully colored blossoms year after year. She was a member of Norfolk Botanical Gardens where she regularly visited with family.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her sister, Connie Nedlock
SURVIVORS: Her husband of 48 years, Ronald Peacock; a son, Philip Peacock of Haymarket, Va. and his wife, Stephanie; a son, Mark Peacock of Burke, Va.; a daughter, Vicki McNamara and her husband, John, of Virginia Beach. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren Brittany, Lauren and Krissy Peacock and Jessica, Daniel and Robyn McNamara. She also leaves a sister, Carol Garner and her husband, Harold, of Buford, Ga.; a brother Don Wortman and his wife, Linda, of Casar; and a large extended family including a niece and five nephews whom she loved very much. She was predeceased by her sister, Connie Nedlock of Richmond, Va.

PERSONAL HISTORY: Mrs. Cline was born in Lincoln County to the late Smith Judson Black and Bertha Mae Wise Black. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and retired from A.V. Wray and Sons as a Buyer and Manager of the Children’s department

PERSONAL HISTORY: Mrs. McArthur was a native of Cleveland County, and a daughter of the late Odell and Gracie Brannon Byers. She retired from Rutherford County School System. She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Choir, member of the Hand Chimes, served on various committees, was a member of the Women’s Circle and a member of the Asbury Sunday School Class. She loved wildflowers and working in her flower gardens, was an avid reader and spent the last several years traveling with her husband, Bill.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Husbands, Max Watkins and James Berry Carpenter; brother, Johnathan P. “Sonny: Byers; and a sister Carolyn Crowe.

PERSONAL HISTORY: Mr. Ellis was a son of Mary Lois Huddleston Ellis of Shelby and the late John Dexter Ellis Jr. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and was employed by Clyde Roofing Company and had previously worked as a printer. He served in the Air Force.
SURVIVORS: His wife, Brenda Spikes Ellis; his mother, Mary Lois Ellis of Shelby; a daughter, Shekiya Broadus and husband, Damien, of Upper Marlboro, Md.; a brother, Ronald Q. Ellis of Jessup, Md.; five sisters, Gwendolyn Whittington and her husband, the Rev.
