William S. Harrill Sr.
March 11, 1913 - June 2, 2006
Greer, S.C. — Mr. William “Bill” Stowe Harrill Sr., 93, of 110 Vandiventer Drive, passed away Friday, June 2, 2006.
FUNERAL: Sunday at 4 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church
Burial: Mountain View cemetery
VISITATION: The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in the Social Hall of Memorial United Methodist Church and other times at the home of a daughter, Ruth Griffin, 105 Rubiwood Circle, Greer.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Mr. Harrill was the son of the late Dr. John A. and Harriett Susan Black Harrill of Shelby. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. A lifelong resident of Greer, his life was marked by hard work and service to others from an early age. He graduated from Gardner -Webb University, where he lettered in football and baseball. He continued his education at Wake Forest University where he played baseball. During World War II, from 1943 until 1945, Mr. Harrill served in the Army Air Force, in the 568th Anti-Aircraft Battalion in the European Theatre. He owned and operated Harrill’s Incorporated from 1945 until he retired in 1982. Mr. Harrill was a lifetime member of the Greer Lions Club where he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was a member of the Greer Housing Authority for 39 years. He was a dedicated member of the Memorial United Methodist Church for more than 60 years where he served in many leadership roles.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: In addition to his parents, four brothers, Lawson H. Harrill, John A. Harrill Jr, Jay B. Harrill and Thomas C. Harrill; and sister Ruth Harrill Mauney.
SURVIVORS: His wife of 65 years, Lalage Louisa Sperling Harrill; a son and daughter-in-law, William Stowe Harrill Jr. and Connie, of Greer; two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan Harrill Greer and Steve, of Athens, Ga. and Ruth Harrill Griffin and Gary, of Greer; four grandsons, Stephen Allen Greer Jr. and wife Tricia, Jefferson Matthew Greer, Michael William Greer and William Jennings Stroud; four granddaughters, Laura Harrill Brasington and Wil, Frances Louisa Harrill, Anna Louisa Griffin and Emily Ruth Griffin; and a great-grandson, Stephen Allen “Sam” Greer III

PERSONAL HISTORY: A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Samuel Moore and Belle Melton McNeely. He was a retired farmer and attended Oak Grove United Methodist Church.

The Rev. Ernest R. Oliver Jr.
Feb. 15, 1953 – June 1, 2006
TALLASSEE, ALA. — The Rev. Ernest “Buddy” Raymond Oliver Jr., 53, of 86579 Tallassee Highway, died Thursday, June 1, 2006, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

VISITATION: The family will receive friends Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at Pisgah Baptist Church Family Life Center.
PERSONAL HISTORY: Born in Lincoln County, he was the son of Peggy Davis Horn of Polkville and the late Floyd Coleman Horn. He was the priest in charge of the Church of the Epiphany in Tallassee. He was known for his love and commitment to his church. The Rev. Oliver did extensive volunteer work with substance abuse rehabilitation, which included counseling and teaching at the Alabama School of Alcoholic and Drug Studies to recertify addiction counselors. He was invited and presented several Bible studies for the judges and staff of the Alabama Supreme Court. The Rev. Oliver formerly pastored at Mull’s Memorial Baptist Church of Connelly Springs, Bethel Baptist Church of South Port, Trinity Episcopal of Wheaton, Ill., St. Thomas Episcopal of Greenville, Ala., and served on the staff at the Holy Comforter Episcopal in Montgomery, Ala. He was involved with a mission trip to South Korea. The Rev. Oliver was a member of Casar Masonic Lodge No. 579 and a former member of Casar Volunteer Fire Department.

PERSONAL HISTORY: Mr. Sweeting was born in Monroe County, N.Y. to the late Walter J. and Alice Barton Sweeting. He served in the Navy during World War II as Fireman First Class aboard the U.S.S. Guam in the Pacific Theater. He retired in 1983, after 42 years of service as an X-ray film cutter from Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, N.Y. He was a member of Polkville United Methodist Church and a member of the Polkville VFW. He was a former volunteer fireman for Capen Hose Company in Brockport, N.Y., and was a 59 year member of the American Legion in Brockport, N.Y.
PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: His parents; two brothers, Harold Sweeting and Wendell Sweeting; and two sisters, Ruth Shaughnessy and Hazel Burgett
