Benedict Johnston
Benedict Malcolm Johnston, 87, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., died Monday, April 16, 2012.
He was born in Gaston County, on June 7, 1924, and was a son of the late Charles Lee Johnston and Geraldine Kaneer Johnston. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Alene Holden
Alene Smith Holden, 79, of Supply, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, at her home.
She was born in Brunswick County on Oct. 20, 1932, the daughter of the late Vander Jackson and Mary Benton Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Kenneth Roger Holden; and also two brothers and four sisters.
Mrs. Holden retired in 1992 after 22 years as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.
She will be missed by many as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Barbara Valkenburg
Barbara Jean Skarka Valkenburg died on Thursday, May 3, 2012, in Florence, S.C.
Services will be private with the family.

Dick Stewart
Richard “Dick” Stewart of Carolina Shores died Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at Autumn Care of Shallotte.
He was born Aug. 20, 1915, in Springfield, Mass., a son of Arthur J. and Emma L. Stewart.
He was a U.S. Army veteran during World War II. He was director of sales for Johanson Shoe Company from St. Louis. He retired in 1983 and moved from Enfield, Conn., to Carolina Shores. He was an avid golfer and belonged to many golf clubs in his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold A. Stewart.
Don Smith
Donald “Don” Leab Smith, 78, of Chadbourn, died Sunday, May 6, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during the Korean War.
He is survived by three sisters, Kay S. Wagner of Shallotte, Loyal S. Reed of Ash, and Dila S. Gore of Nakina; and two brothers, Dale Smith and Peel Smith all of Ash.
Funeral services were set for 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Old Zion Wesleyan Church, Guideway with the Rev. Billy Roy officiating. Interment was to follow in the church cemetery.
Eugene Permenter Sr.
Eugene Ralph Permenter Sr., 88, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., died on Friday, May 4, 2012.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, in the Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens.

Danny Peacock
Danny Clint Peacock, 60, of Ash, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, April 29, 2012.
Danny was the son of the late Grover and Janie May Peacock. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Toby Peacock; and a sister, Janelle Fitzgerald.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jernigan Peacock; two sons, Skyler Wade Peacock of the home, and Jimmy Peacock of Odesa, Texas; two daughters, Shannon Perkins and Melissa Tilman, both of Odesa, Texas; a brother, Kelly Peacock; a sister, Debbie Bayes and husband Gary; and five granddaughters.
Betty Noble
Betty C. Noble, 86, of Little River, S.C., died Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Inurnment followed in the church columbarium

Mary McKelvey
Mary JoAn McKelvey, 79, of Sunset Beach, went to be with the Lord, on Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Whiteville.
She was a devoted servant of the Lord, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Calabash Presbyterian Church where her memorial took place on May 8, 2012.
She was born on Aug. 3, 1932, in Washington, Pa., to Perry and Anna Hackney Wright, who are deceased.
Charles Jordan
U.S. Army Lt. Col. Ret. Charles F. Jordan, 70, of Little River, S.C., died on Sunday, May 6, 2012, at home.
A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Little River United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Little River United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 160, Little River, SC 29566.

Jeremiah Antonio Hines, infant son of Terry and Shannon Hines of Riegelwood, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Brunswick Novant Medical Center in Supply.
Private services were at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 8, at the Hines home in Riegelwood.

Joel Landis “Jiggy” High
Joel Landis “Jiggy” High, 64, went home to be with our Savior, his family and friends that have passed before him on Sunday April 29, 2012.
Jiggy was born on Aug. 25, 1947, in Calabash. He was the son of Lawrence and Ella High, the brother of Sherylann Hardee, Myrome and Jimmy High, and was survived by their brother Jerry High.
Bennie Yearta
Bennie DeWayne Yearta, 50, of Vale, passed away on Monday, May 28, 2012, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.
Born July 22, 1961, in Jacksonville, Fla., he was the son of the late Bennie Frank Yearta and Myrtle Leonard Yearta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Billie Ruth Yearta.
Bennie was a member of Harvest Presbyterian Church and a Boy Scout leader. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast, who enjoyed camping and fishing with his grandson and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
James Warren
James Walter Warren of Sunset Beach died Monday April 9, 2012.
A celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at St. James the Fisherman Episcopal Church in Shallotte.

Hildegard Strache
Hildegard Strache of Arbor Landing at Ocean Isle Beach died on Thursday, May 31, 2012.
She is survived by five daughters, Angelika Strache, Helen Moore and Inge Miller, all of Atlanta, Christa Strache of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and Hannelore Martin of Bolivia; one son, Richard of Tavares, Fla.; a brother, Erich Anwander of Karlsfield, Germany; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial service take place in December in Hilton Head Island, S.C., where the ashes of Hermann and Hildegard will be combined and returned to God’s great earth.
Sheila Patterson
Sheila Marie Patterson, 63, of Supply, died Thursday, May 31, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Patterson was born on Oct. 12, 1948, in Oswego, N.Y., to Betty Ruttan Pierce of Watertown, N.Y., and the late Frank Pierce.
Teresa Mobley
Teresa Ann “Sissy” Mobley, 54, of Winnabow, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at her home.
She was born Jan. 29, 1958, in Winslow, Ariz., a daughter of Melvin Scherer of Leland and the late Annie Mae Gore Scherer.
Survivors in addition to her father include her husband, Elbert Mobley of Winnabow; daughter, Brandi Grace Maggard of Winnabow; brother, Gene Scherer of Boiling Spring Lakes; sister, Julie Hicks of Hendersonville.
Graveside services were at 2 p.m. Friday, June 1, at Peace Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, U.S. 17, Winnabow.
Stephen Lyons
Stephen “Steve” Peter Lyons, 77, of Shallotte, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Lyons was born May 14, 1935, in New York City to the late Stephen and Margaret Flaherty Lyons. He was a retired New York City Fireman. He was preceded in death by his wife Jane Spurbeck Lyons.
Robert Little
Robert “Dale” Little, 58, of Ash, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Dale was the son of the late Barcy and Lola Little.
He leaves behind his brother, Jerry Little and wife Theresa of Wilmington; five sisters, Shirley Croom and husband Earl of Elizabethtown; Betty Hewett and husband James of Ash; Vicki Mintz of Exum; Debbie White and husband Ernie of Ocean Isle Beach; and Jennifer Coston and husband Chris of Reigelwood; five nieces; and three nephews.
