Luke Stephen Phillips – Southport
Luke Stephen Phillips, born March 29, 2013, died December 13, 2013, beloved and happy son of Seth and Katherine Phillips, and adored brother of Adeline Anne Phillips.
He is survived by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Deborah Phillips, and by his maternal grandfather, James Robert Jennings; by his five uncles and aunts; and by his paternal great-grandparents. Luke was preceded in death by his brother, James Robert “Bo” Phillips, and by his maternal grandmother, Anne Dunn Jennings.
A service with the family was held in memoriam in celebration of Luke’s resurrection life.
In lieu of flowers, Seth and Katherine request that gifts be made to The Adeline Anne Phillips College Fund, in care of Dr. Charles W. Phillips, The Maclellan Foundation, 820 Broad Street, Suite 300, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402.

George Robert Latzy – Southport
George Robert Latzy, of Southport, NC, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013.
He was born to the late George A and Elizabeth Latzy, March 1, 1926, in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He was married icon to his beloved wife, Connie for 66 years and 11 months. George was a manager with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 42 years. He was passionate about history, particularly the Civil War and loved to visit battlefields. He also loved to read, ride his motorcycle, and had many hobbies including woodworking and pottery.
George is survived by his daughters, Victoria (Devone) Edge of Leland, NC and Jennifer (Greg) Entler of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his beloved grandaughter Crystal Edge and his three grandsons, Aaron Edge and Adam and Eric Entler.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
Friends may visit 10am Monday, December 16 at the Peacock-Newnam &White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe St. Southport, NC. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am.

Col. Charles Henry Sunder — Southport
Colonel Charles Henry Sunder, “Charlie”, 87, of Southport, NC died Friday, December 13, 2013. He was born on December 16, 1925 in Jeannette, Pa, son of the late Carl and Verie Sunder.
Charles was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Southport, NC. Also, he was a Knights of Columbus 4th degree, Parish Council member, member of Pastoral Council, and lector. He was a West Point graduate, class of 1948 and served our country in the US Army from 1944 – 1974. He was assigned to many duty stations including Germany, Okinawa, Korea, Vietnam, and retired as commander at Sunny Point (MOTSU) in Southport.
In his community he served as acting Southport City Manager, Lions Club treasurer, 4th of July boat ticket coordinator/seller, and Sacred Heart Villa transport coordinator. He was involved in the annual Southport King Mackerel Fishing Tournament, Brunswick County Schools, and Brunswick County Meals on Wheels program.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eileen Schmucker Sunder and three daughters. Charleen Porter and her husband, Dean, of Wilmington, NC, Gail Sunder of Wilmington, NC , Sue Sunder of San Ramon, Calif and Judy Sunder Shipp (deceased) and her husband, Marshall, of Sugar Grove, NC. Additional survivors are his grandchildren: Christine Letsen Fealy, and husband, Jason, of Mobile, Ala., Carl Shipp of Durham, NC, and Hannah Shipp of Pensacola, Florida. Two great-grand children, Jackson Fealy and Sawyer Fealy. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Sunder, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm – 8:00pm, Monday, December 16, 2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport, NC.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00am, Tuesday, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.
Memorial contributions can be made to The Warrior Ride (assisting wounded service members) 1401 East Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC 28465 or the charity of your choice.

Sandra Lynn Stewart - Southport
Sandra Lynn Stewart, 64, of Southport died Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.
Mrs. Stewart was born April 20, 1950 in Hope Mills, NC, daughter of Jeston Theron and Rosa Smith Britt.
Sandi graduated from Shelbyville High School in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1968, and studied creative writing at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana. She worked for Sundstrand Machine Tool in Belvidere, Illinois until 1976, when she dedicated the next phase of her life as a full-time mom in Rockford, Illinois, Memphis, Tennessee, and Annapolis, Maryland. In 1987 she brought her family to Southport, North Carolina, and together founded Stewart Hardware. She loved life in the store where she felt privileged to share in the lives of all she served. She always had a smile and a hug for all her special customers.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Britt, and sister, Gerri Scudder. Survivors include her husband of 45 years, Kenneth Stewart of the home; daughter, Hannah Stewart of Southport; son, Benjamin Stewart and wife Mallory of Southport; two brothers, Paul Britt of Shelbyville, Indiana, and Buddy Britt and wife Millie of Waldron Indiana; three sisters, Faye Koonce of Fayetteville, Linda Long of Waldron Indiana, and Donna Hacker and husband Billy of Franklin, Indiana; and three grandchildren, Senator Shultz, William Stewart, and Melody Daudistel.
A memorial service will be held at 7 pm Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Southport.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, November 3, 2014 at the funeral home.

Kenneth William “Bill” Hewett - Southport
Kenneth William “Bill” Hewett, 56 of Southport, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Mr. Hewett was born January 10, 1958 in Key West, Florida the son of the late John William Hewett, Jr. and Doris Stevens Hewett. He and his wife Teresa were the owners of Bridgeview Welding. Mr. Hewett attended Generations Church, was an avid hunter, and had attended South Brunswick High School where he played football. Bill was a hard worker and had a huge heart, who was always willing to help anyone. He was preceded in death by two brothers Michael and Fred Hewett, two sisters Belinda Howie and Katherine Beason.
Survivors include his wife Teresa Hewett; a son Dustin A. Hewett of Bolivia; two daughters Billie Jane Hewett of Shallotte and Christina B. Poe of Raleigh; one brother John Anthony Hewett and wife Cindy of Albemarle; two sisters, Barbara Buchacker and husband James of Charlotte and Robbie Perkins and husband Jerry of Asheville, one grandson Ronald Tart, Jr. and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at Generations Church with Reverend Troy Knight officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422.

Earl E. Dye, Jr. - St, James
Earl E. Dye, Jr., age 78 of St. James, NC, passed away Sunday October 26, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center in Bolivia, NC. He was son of Earl E. Dye, Sr. and Lucille Robinson Dye formerly of Wilmington, NC.
A graduate of New Hanover High School and NC State University, he and wife Nancy moved to St. James in 1994 after a 30 year career with Allied Signal-Honeywell Corp.
He was appointed mayor and served during the ongoing incorporation process to become the town of St. James in July 1999. Earl served another 2 year term before retiring again, served on a number of committees in the years afterward and was also a member of the Brunswick Co. Sheriff’s Academy.
He is survived by his wife Nancy of 58 years, two sons, Matt Dye (Linda) of Alexandria, VA and Tracy Dye (Gayle) of Lewisburg, WV, 3 grandchildren (Noah, Adrienne and Elena) of Lewisburg, WV, one sister, Sarah Peterson (Jack) of Barnwell, SC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Earl has been a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4843 Southport-Supply Rd. SE, Southport, NC 28461 for 20 years where a memorial service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 3pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422, or the Endowment Fund of St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4843 Southport-Supply Rd. SE, Southport, NC 28461.

Barbara Cumbee Simmons – Southport
Barbara Cumbee Simmons, 81 of Southport passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014.
Mrs. Simmons was born December 30, 1932, the daughter of the late Clarence and Retha Holden Cumbee. She was a member of Lighthouse Pentecostal Church and was a very strong woman who was strong in her faith. Mrs. Simmons loved her Lord and her family, she was a caring mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband David L. Simmons, two brothers, and five sisters.
Surviving are three sons, Robert Earl Lumpp, Jr. and wife Caryl, of Addison, IL, Earl Clarence Simmons and David Simmons both of Southport; three daughters Carol Lumpp of Clearwater, FL, Kathy Kucarski and husband Ronald of Fox Lake, IL, and Loretta Candler and husband Chris of Boiling Spring Lakes; a step-son Lloyd Jackson and wife Kaydie of Boiling Spring Lakes, two step-daughters Zelma Babson Bittle and husband Glenn of Ash and Davette Toppings and husband John of Aynor, SC; a brother Patrick McDonald and wife Jackie of Supply, a sister Betty Saresky of PA; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Lighthouse Pentecostal Church with Reverend Charles Drew officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday evening at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service.

Patricia Geddie Barber - Wilmington
Patricia Geddie Barber, 75, passed peacefully Friday, October 24, 2014.
She put her trust in God and lived for Him. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.
Surviving is her son, Wilbert Eugene Barber (Julie); and a daughter, Mary Louise Barber. She was blessed with four grandchildren (Alec, Alana, Kathryn & Lauren) and a grand-dog, Marlin.
The family will receive friends and family at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport, NC on Tuesday, October 28 from 1-2pm with the memorial service at 2pm.

Bobby E. Bolton, Sr. - Oak Island
Bobby E. Bolton, Sr., age 74, of Oak Island passed away Saturday, October 25, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Bolton was born April 8, 1940, son of the late Lonnie and Annie Bryant Bolton. He was the former owner of Industrial Textile Piping, Inc. and Denver Piping Inc. Mr. Bolton was a 15 year resident of Denver, North Carolina before retiring to Oak Island 20 years ago. He captained the fishing charter boat “John Ellan.” In addition to his parents, Mr. Bolton was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie Benton Bolton, Jr. and Tommy Bolton, and three sisters, Elouise Thomas, Bobbie Owens, and Pat Wolfe.
Survivors include three sons, Bobby E. Bolton, Jr. and wife Jackie of Clover, South Carolina, Jeff Bolton and wife Angel of Troutman, North Carolina, and Brett Bolton of Belmont, North Carolina; two daughters, Lori A. Bolton of Simpsonville, South Carolina and Cally Bolton of Belmont, North Carolina; two sisters, Kitty Lee of South Boston, Virginia, and Marjorie Willett and husband David of Asheboro, North Carolina; and six grandchildren, Jamie, Lindsay, Benjamin, Courtney, Caitlyn, and Jacob.
Funeral services will be 3pm Monday, October 27, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home in Southport with Reverend Gene Tomlinson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2-3pm at the funeral home.

Lorraine A. Pace - Caswell Beach
Lorraine A. Pace, 74, of Caswell Beach, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Mrs. Pace was born August 22, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of the late John and Josephine Ulivi. Rae loved the beach and the ocean. She enjoyed living in North Carolina in the summer and Florida in the winter. She loved gardening and landscaping in her Caswell Dunes community, and she loved the challenge of her household projects. Rae was an amazing friend, always lending a helping hand to those she loved. She was especially good to her grandchildren and loved them dearly, even helping to raise them.
Surviving is her husband Larry Pace, two sons Ron Pace and wife Cathy of Gladstone, NJ and Dan Pace and wife Patty of Branchburg, NJ; two daughters, Geri Karabin and husband Rich of Oak Island, NC and Denise Pace-Sanders and husband Bob of Branchburg, NJ. Also, two brothers, Don Ulivi and wife Pat, and John Ulivi and wife Peg, as well as a sister Nona Kralick, all of MI, and six grandchildren, Marie, Phillip, Tyler, Jill, Ethan, and Kira, as well as her beloved cats Bobo and Zoey.
The family will have a visitation from 1:00 to 3:00 pm on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral Service in Southport.

Eleanor Grace Sullivan - Winnabow
Eleanor Grace Sullivan, 72, of Winnabow passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at her home.
Mrs. Sullivan was born in Onslow County February 28, 1942. She was a faithful and devoted member of Lebanon Baptist Church and a full-time Mama. She retired from Roses Department Store after 20 years of service. She was wife of the late William Barkley Sullivan, and was also preceded in death by her mother, Mary Salsman and granddaughter, Brittany Rayl.
Survivors include her four children, Judy Faircloth and husband Tony of Winnabow, Faye Dunagan and husband Dennis of Carthage, Cindy Moore and Shawn of Winnabow, William B. Sullivan, Jr. and wife Pam of Winnabow; grandchildren, Timothy Faircloth and wife Jennifer, Lane Hewett, Tiffany Faircloth, Jessica Hewett and husband Shannon, Monica Hewett, Amber Anastas, Alexis Locklear, Jeffrey Rayl, Charles Rayl; great grandchildren, Chloe Hewett, Casey Hewett, Daulten Thomas, Carah Hewett, Mason Rayl, Ayden Rayl, Cameron Rayl, Bryleigh Thomas, Brantley Rayl, and Garrett Barkley Faircloth; her very special canine daughters, Lucy and Molly; and numerous nieces and nephews that were special to her.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Lebanon Baptist Church with Reverend Mark Ennis officiating. Burial will follow in Lebanon Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jackie Cook, Johnny Sullivan, Rance Sullivan, Josh Sullivan, Gus Benino, Jr., and Larry Wayne Perhealth.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00pm Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lebanon Baptist Church, 7642 Funston Road, Winnabow, NC 28479.
