Jeffrey Swaim – Southport
Mr. Jeffrey Scott Swaim, age 40 of 918 N. Shore Dr., Southport, NC formerly of Burlington, NC died Thursday July 16, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Swaim was born in Long Beach, California on August 7, 1968 and was the son of Sheila Rudd Buckner of Southport and the late Jimmy Leon Swaim. Jeffrey was an Automobile Painter and loved music and loved to sing.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Heather Swaim; two brothers, Jeromy Swaim of Burlington, Christopher Wilson of Southport; three sisters, Shelly Ann Swaim of Burlington, Stacy Lynn Swaim of Southport, Christy Clemmons of Burlington; paternal grandfather, Jesse O. Swaim of Long Beach, Ca.; maternal grandmother, Iona Rudd of Burlington; nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday August 8, 2009 at 2pm at the Cedar Rock Park Shelter 4 in Alamance County, NC.

Jimmy H. Ashley – Oak Island,NC
Mr. Jimmy H. Ashley age 62 of 102 SW 22nd Street, Oak Island died Friday July 3, 2009 at his home.
Mr. Ashley was born in Wake County, NC on January 27, 1947 and was the son of the late Otha and Alline Underwood Ashley. He was the former co-owner and operator of Jeffreys Appliance of Raleigh. He retired to Oak Island in 2001. He was a member of the Oak Island Lions Club and Oak Island Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ashley of the home; a sister, Frances Barefoot of Fuquay Varina, NC; three nieces, Pamela Grady, Annette Sykes, Kathleen Ornowski; two uncles, Harold Ashley of Mebane, NC, Henry Ashley of Hurdle Mills, NC.; two great-nephews, Clint and Spencer; four great-nieces, Jill, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Ava.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 7, 2009 at 2pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash Street, Southport with Reverend Garrett Albertson officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Interment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park.

Gary Roger Knapp – Bolivia
Gary Roger Knapp of Bolivia, North Carolina and formerly of Hyde Park, New York, died on Monday, July 6th 2009. He is survived by his wife, Nancy of Bolivia, North Carolina, his son Shane of San Jose, California, his daughter Tracey of San Francisco, California, sister Karen Macey of Charlottesville, Virginia, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gary was born in Syracuse, New York on January 30th 1943, the son of Charles and Irma Knapp.
Gary served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961 though 1964. He was a member of the New York State Police for 27 years in the Hudson River Valley, where worked as an Emergency Management Officer and Sergeant. He retired to North Carolina in 2005.
He will best be remembered for his love of his family and life, and his contagious laugh. He enjoyed golf, pinochle, cars, reading, sports and history. He was also an active community member, participating in food drives to benefit the underprivileged.
A memorial will be held in his honor at 12:00 noon on Friday, July 10, 2009 in the Peacock – Newnam and White Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon prior to the memorial.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to the Southport Salvation Army on 4566 Long Beach Road SE, Southport, NC 28461, or a charity of your choice.

Gay Crabtree
Gay Atwell Crabtree, 82, of Sunset Beach, died April 25 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCareCenter in Wilmington.
She was born in Abingdon, Va., and lived the majority of her life in Petersburg, Va., before moving to Sunset Beach to be near her daughter.
She enjoyed cooking and sharing meals with family and neighborhood friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott and Minnie Atwell; two brothers, Raymond and Carl; and one nephew.

Jean Musnick Kayota Schultz, 87, formerly of Calabash, NC died Thursday, March 17, 2005 in Myrtle Beach Manor.
Born in New York City, NY on April 6, 1917, she was a homemaker and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands, Walter Kayota, Sr. and Gilbert Schultz, Sr., a son Walter Kayota, Jr., and her brother, Anthony Musnick.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Gilbert J. (Gil) and Maria Schultz, Jr., Whitestone, NY, a sister-in-law, Stella Musnick, nieces Carol Gercke, and Stephanie Karpell, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at 9:00 a.m. in the St. Brendan, The Navigator Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday, March 21, 2005 at the funeral home with a Prayer Vigil at 7:30 pm.

Myrtle Gore McLamb
Calabash, NC
Myrtle Gore McLamb, 88, of Calabash Road, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at her residence. Born in Horry County, SC, Brooksville Community, on December 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Needham and Mary Jones Gore.
She was the oldest living member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Lennon M. McLamb and her brother, Rodney Gore.
Survivors include her son, Jimmy McLamb and wife Gail of Calabash; two brothers, Leon Gore and Watson Gore both of Brooksville, SC; three grandchildren, Alison Blackmon, Len McLamb, Lori Skipper; seven great-grandchildren, Brandy Marti, Faith Causey, Jesse McLamb, Olivia Blackmon, Sami McLamb; Morgan Skipper, Corbin Skipper and two great great-grandchildren, Noah Marti and Brody Causey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 16, 2009 in the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church by Elder Brannon Hooven. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 PM, Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Len McLamb, Kevin Skipper, David Gore, Ronnie Gore, Eddi Marti and Keith Smith.
Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, C/O Douglas McLamb, 1031 High Point Avenue, Calabash, NC 28467.

Carl Gordon Price, 79, of Sandpiper Court SW, died Saturday, December 12, 2009 at his home.
Born on February 28, 1930 in Cleveland, OH, Mr. Price was a son of the late Carl and Mildred Cowley Price. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Europe during the Korean War.
He retired from State Farm Insurance Co. after 30 years of service as a Senior Claims Specialist. He also was an original member of State Farm’s Disaster Team.
Mr. Price’s civic involvement included being a member of the Aladdin Temple, Masonic Lodge (York Lodge, Cols, OH), the Aladdin Shrine Patrol, the Sudan Temple Shrine, and was a founding member of the South Brunswick Islands Shrine Club & past secretary. He was a former Scoutmaster and Chairman for six years of the Carolina Shores Architectural Control Committee.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Penn Price; three sons; Carl Justin Price, & wife, Susanna of Marlborough, MA, Douglas Anthony Price, & wife, Lynn, of Worthington, OH, and Christopher Raymond Price, & wife, Arica, of Columbus, OH; four grandchildren, Ian, Ethan, Meredith, & McKenzie Price; sister, Dorothy Kozak, of Cleveland, OH.
A mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 19th in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
Family will receive friends at the residence on Friday, December 18th from 2-5 pm.

Born on July 14, 1920 in Carbondale , PA , a son of the late Carl and Leala Hyatt Schuster. He was a US Army Air Corps WWII Veteran, a 50 year member of Acacia Lodge #20, Dover , a member of Saalam Shrine Temple, NJ and a 63 year member of the American Legion Post #245, Lake Hopatcong , NJ .
Surviving are his son, Bruce D. Schuster, and wife, Andrea, of Wantage , NJ ; two grandchildren,Melanie and Jared and several nieces & nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16th in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens .
Visitation will be from 4-6 pm on Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. James Joseph Hartnett, 76, of Pinewood Drive, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
Born in New York, NY on September 26, 1933, he was the son of the late James and Margaret Murphey Hartnett. Mr. Hartnett was retired from the NYPD, “Motorcycle One Division”. He was also a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, The Calabash Volunteer Fire Department, Calabash Elks Lodge “Membership Committee” and was the Chairman of the Carolina Shores Planning and Zoning Board.
Survivors include his wife Barbara McCue Hartnett; three sons, James Hartnett and wife Karen of Roswell, GA, Joseph Hartnett and wife Debora of Harwood, MD, Kevin Hartnett and wife Patricia of Sloatsburg, NY and three grandchildren, James Ryan Hartnett, Brendan Hartnett and Shannen Hartnett.
A mass will be celebrated at 1:00, PM, Monday, December 21, 2009, in St. Brendan’s Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, “Building Fund” at PO Box 2984, Shallotte, NC 28459 or to the charity of your choice.
