Born in Union County, NC on December 16, 1939, he was a son of the late Oscar S. and Elaine Pressley Helms. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Mickey Helms.
He was a retired veteran of the US Army with the rank of Master Sergeant.
Surviving are his wife Pat Phillips Helms of the home; a daughter and son in law Kathy and Tim Carter of ocean Isle Beach, NC; one granddaughter, Ashley Carter; four sisters, Patricia Birge, Indian Trail, NC, Joyce Jordan of Savannah, GA, Brenda Daniel and Linda Stinson both of Statesboro, GA.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 19, 2009, at 2:00 PM, in the Word of Life Christian Fellowship Church, Ocean Isle Beach, NC officiated by his son in law The Reverend Tim Carter. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM, Friday at the funeral home and at other times from the residence of his daughter, Kathy Carter on Green Bay Road, Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.

Mrs. Hazel Spencer Inman Tripp, 95, of Mulberry St., formerly of Ash, died Saturday, December 19, 2009.
Born in Brunswick County, NC on August 31, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Melissa Stanley Spencer.
She was predeceased by two husbands Lindsey Inman and Leon Tripp, a son Bobby Gene Inman, a daughter, Marie King and her brother, Bruce Spencer.
Survivors include a son, Hubert W. Inman, of Charleston, SC; three daughters, Earlene Meadows of Ash, NC, Jo Carson of Charleston, SC, Pat Armour of Ash, NC; a daughter-in-law, Linda Inman of Longwood, NC; seventeen grandchildren and twenty five great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, December 21, 2009 at 2:00pm, in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel with The Rev. Bob Rea officiating. Burial will follow in the Bill Inman Cemetery, Ash, NC.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mary Ruth Jernigan, 89, of Gamecock Circle, died Friday, December 18, 2009, at her residence.
Born in Pueblo, CO., on November 25, 1920, she was the daughter of the late James Oscar and Susan Hallmark Selman. She was preceded in death by her husband, US Army, MSGT Luby H. Jernigan, a daughter Cynthia Medovich and a son, James L. (Smokey) Jernigan. She was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church, Fayette, AL, which was founded by her grandfather, Rev. B T Selman in 1896.
Surviving are her children, Thomas K. Jernigan of Little Rock, AK, Melissa Holmes of Kendrick, ID, Patrick L. Jernigan of Heber Springs, AR, Sonja Roller of Annandale, MN, Lynette Sant of Roy, UT, forty two grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in the Chapel of Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte, NC. Interment will be private in the Ft. Bragg Post Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 AM, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Ms. Taylor was born January 16, 1976 in Scotland County, NC to Robert Charles and Elizabeth Rowland Taylor. She was a volunteer CPR and First Aid Instructor for the American Red Cross in Myrtle Beach, SC; and enjoyed making flower arrangements.
Surviving are her father Robert Charles Taylor and mother Elizabeth Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 25, 2010 at 4:00 PM in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by the Reverend Landis Lancaster. Burial will be Monday, July 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Rowland Cemetery, Robeson County, NC.

Michael Anthony Shelah, 93, of Leland, NC died Wednesday, May 4, 2011 in Universal Healthcare Center.
Mr. Shelah was born February 6, 1918 in New York City, NY to the late Nicholas and Mary Banka Shelah. He was a World War II Army Air Corps Veteran; and member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC. Mr. Shelah was a longtime resident of Lake Peekskill, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marie Shelah, a son Michael Thomas Shelah; three brothers Joseph Shelah, Bruno Jerulevich , and Anthony Jerulevich; and a sister Eva Holacheck.
Surviving is his son William Shelah, wife Elaine, of Poughkeepsie, NY; a daughter Karen Lian, husband Nicholas, of Leland, NC; seven grandchildren Joseph Lian of Wilmington, NC, Jill L. Pike of Oxford, NC, Michael J. Shelah of Westminster, MD, Erin Bellanti of Tonawonda, NY, Brian Shelah of Henderson, NV, Daniel Shelah of Hyde Park, NY, and Maura Shelah of Hyde Park, NY; and ten great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church by the Father Bob Kus.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 6, 2011 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home; and from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Karen’s home, 1094 Lillibridge Drive Leland, NC 28451.

Larnel Irby “Nell” Justice, of Shallotte, NC died on May 8, 2011 at Universal Healthcare, Bolivia, NC. She was the daughter of the late Beverly D. and Lorena D. Irby of Campbell County, Virginia. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah J. Griles and Joe of South Boston, VA, Nancy Petersen of Springfield, Massachusetts and Darlotte Justice of Springfield, Massachusetts.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Scott Griles and Rhonda of Clover, VA, Lee Griles and Sheryl of Clover, VA and two great-granddaughters, Morgan Farley and Kaylen Griles.
Four stepchildren, Lynn Justice and Jennifer of Richmond, VA, Jeff Justice and Rose of Melbourne, FL, Bobbi Puryear of Richmond, VA, and Beth McMordie and Rod of Urbanna, VA. Eight step-grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters, Estelle McBride of Greensboro, NC, and Norma Coyle of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Camp United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with The Reverend Paula Chambers presiding.

John Patrick Raleigh
John Patrick Raleigh, 73, of Calabash (formerly of Bergenfield, NJ and The Bronx, NY) died Monday, May 16, 2011.
He was born August 17, 1937 in The Bronx, NY to the late Patrick Christopher and Kathleen Lohan Raleigh. Mr. Raleigh served as a Private in the US Army, stationed at Fort Sill, OK. After an Honorable Discharge, he worked for New York Telephone for 26 years as Fleet Manager. In Bergenfield, he was actively involved in the youth sports programs as a League Administrator, Coach, Umpire, and Referee for Little League Baseball, Town Basketball League, and St. John’s CYO Basketball. Mr. Raleigh retired to Calabash, NC in 1995 where served on the Calabash Planning Board, as well as the Saltaire Village Maintenance Committee. Mr. Raleigh attended St. Brendan’s Roman Catholic Church in Shallotte, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Rosemary Doyle Raleigh; three sons Mike Raleigh, wife Mary, of Elmwood Park, NJ, Robert Raleigh of Bergenfield, NJ, and Jim Raleigh, wife Sarah, of Hillsdale, NJ; a daughter Maureen Parisi, husband Joey, of Hauppauge, NY; a brother Gene Raleigh, of Paramus, NJ, a sister Anne Flynn of Farmingdale, NY; and proud grandfather of Lauren and Joey Parisi, David, Aidan, Sean, and Kaitlyn Raleigh.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 27, 2011 at 9:00 AM in the St. Brendan’s Catholic Church.

Name: Bellamy, Ophelia Whaley
Home Town: Shallotte, NC
Ophelia Whaley Bellamy, 89, passed away May 20, 2011 at her home in Shallotte, NC attended by her loving family.
She was born on December 12, 1921 in Richlands, NC to Elizabeth and Adron Whaley. She attended Miller Motte business school in Wilmington, NC before meeting Hubert Bellamy, who became her husband and the love of her life. They moved to Shallotte in 1953 and opened Shallotte Furniture, later to become Kimball’s Furniture, where Ophelia and Hubert worked side by side for more than 30 years. There they met and enjoyed friendships with many people, and appreciate everyone who came in.
Ophelia will be remembered fondly as a wonderful cook and homemaker who personified Southern Hospitality, and for her dry sense of humor. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved music and dance, and played piano and sang harmony with her sisters whenever they were together. She and her late husband Hubert enjoyed traveling, and were interested in different cultures, geography, art, and cuisine. They spent many relaxing days on Holden Beach enjoying the surf and sun with family and friends.
Ophelia is survived by her daughter Rhonda Little and her husband Mark of Cary, NC, son Kimball Bellamy and his daughters Angel Schettini of Raleigh, NC and Kaitlin Bellamy of Shallotte, NC and son James E. (Jimmy) Bellamy and his wife Melody and their daughter Ashley Bourland of Shallotte, NC. She is also survived by brother-in-law C.L. Swartz of Wrightsville Beach, NC, sister-in-law Eloise Gibson, of Supply, brother-in-law Robert Bellamy, and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Hubert H. Bellamy, her sisters, Mary Smith and Edna Swartz, brothers Enoch Hemby, Robert Hemby, Carson Whaley, Adron H. Whaley, and Harvey H. Whaley, Sr.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 24th from 1-2pm at Camp United Methodist Church, 4807 Main Street, Shallotte, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 2 pm following the visitation.
The family would like to thank Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Carolyn Gales, and Rita Wilkerson for the loving care they provided to Ophelia during her final illness.
