Jimmy Earl Buffkin, 71, of Sunset Beach, NC died Tuesday, July 19, 2011 in the Brunswick Community Hospital.
Mr. Buffkin was born September 14, 1939 in Horry County, SC to the late Eddie and Elmina Tuberville Buffkin. He was a self employed auto body repairman; and was a member of Longwood Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife Lena Mae C. Buffkin; two sons James Buffkin, wife Jane, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC and David Buffkin of Sunset Beach, NC; a daughter Becky Buffkin of Winston-Salem, NC; a brother Harold Buffkin of Summerville, AL; three sisters Lois Blanton of Longs, SC, Emma Lee Lewis of Marion, SC and Pat Lewis of Winnabow, NC; and two grandchildren Jordan Buffkin and Taylor Buffkin.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 22, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Shallotte First Baptist Church by the Reverend Bob Weathers and Reverend Barry Long. Burial will follow in the Longwood Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, July 21, 2011 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Casketbearers will be Frankie Stephens, Ricky Buffkin, Gordon Grissett, Johnathan Long, Robert Simmons, and Donald Sellers.

Robert Anthony Huggins
Robert Anthony Huggins, 58, of Shallotte, formerly of Fairmont, NC, died Friday, July 22, 2011.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Shipp Huggins, of Sunset Beach and his brother, Phillip Huggins, of Shallotte.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Sunday, July 24, 2011, from 6-8 PM at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte.

Alma Stanley Parrish
Alma Stanley Parrish, 82, of Ash, died Thursday, July 21, 2011 in Brunswick Community Hospital.
Born on September 10, 1928 in Brunswick County, NC, daughter of the late Kirby and Evelyn Milligan Benton.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Herbert D. Stanley & William L. Parrish, Jr.
Surviving are her son, David Stanley, of Ash; two daughters, Louise Adams of Supply, and Mildred Simmons, of Ash; two brothers, Billy Benton, of Shallotte, and Marvin Benton, of Shallotte; two sisters, Tencie Rider, of Ash, and Lois Horrell, of Burgaw; twenty one grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be private in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.

Irvin Bailey Milligan
Irvin Bailey Milligan, 91, formerly of Ash died, Sunday, July 24, 2011, at his home in Durham. He was born in Brunswick County, a son of farmers Joseph Harvey and Dora White Milligan of the Ash Community. After a happy childhood on the family farm, Irvin joined the Navy where he proudly served his country during World War II. While stationed in New York, he met the love of his life, Florence Shea, with whom he recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Following his time in the Navy, Irvin was employed by Civil Service as an Artillery Inspector at Fort Bragg, NC. Upon retirement, he and Flo returned to his beloved Brunswick County where they lived until two years ago when they moved to Durham to be closer to their only child, Hedy Caldwell.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and brothers, Ernest and Bob and sisters, Helen Arnette Milligan and Evie Smith.
In addition to his loving wife, Flo, Irvin is survived by his daughter, Hedy Caldwell and her husband, Lanny of Cary; a brother, Demett Milligan (Polly) of Ash; sisters, Gladys Russ and Clara Mae Russ, both of Shallotte, Ora Ann Mintz of Ash, and Faye Hefelfinger of Wilmington; a sister-in-law, Vella Mae Milligan of Ash; two grandchildren, Kelland and Kortney; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, Shallotte, by The Rev. Charlie Smith. Interment will be in Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers will be Cray Milligan, Trey Milligan, Spencer Inions, Alan Inions, Davis Milligan, and Junior Mintz.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice of Durham, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Suite 101, Durham, NC 27704.

William Franklin Green, Sr.

William Franklin Green, Sr., 70, died Sunday, July 24, 2011.
Born on June 2, 1941 in New Hanover Co., a son of the late Bennie Mack Green, Sr. and Mary Emma Sullivan Green. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Bennie M. Green, Jr. and Edward E. Green, Sr.; and two sisters, Mary V. Whitworth and Jean E. Henderson.
He was a brick mason for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Carter Green, of Rhodhiss; son, William F. Green, Jr., & wife, Michelle, of Newton; daughter, Tammy Woo, & husband, Brian, of Martinez, GA; two sisters, Christine Wiggins, & husband, Bryant, of Supply, and Lillie Mae Howell & husband, Charles, of N. Charleston, SC; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 27th in Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Wilmington.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

John Calvin West
John Calvin West, 77, of Shallotte, NC died Monday, July 25, 2011 in the Autumn Care Nursing Facility, Shallotte, NC.
Mr. West was born September 25, 1933 in Robeson County, NC to the late John Hector and Florida Floyd West. He retired as a Sales Representative for Synergy Gas; and was a United States Army Veteran. He was a Trustee of Hyde Park Baptist Church where he was active as the Associational RA Director, Sunday School teacher, and Deacon. He was also active as a Little League Baseball Coach in Robeson County; and loved hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. When Mr. West moved to Shallotte he became a member of Jennies Branch Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by three brothers Horace West, Floyd West, and Vardell West; and a sister Hilda Branch.
Surviving is his wife Pearl West; two sons Freddie West, of Shallotte, NC and Johnny West, wife Judy, of Lumberton, NC; a brother Thomas West, wife Laura, of Lumberton, NC; four grandchildren Ryan West, Kelsey West, Cory West, wife Melisha, and Candace Babson; and five great grandchildren Wendy, CJ, Katie, Shaynne and Jarrah Babson.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the Jennies Branch Baptist Church by the Reverend Robbie Stephens. Burial will follow in the Mintz Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Harold “Hal” Frederick Mason
Harold “Hal” Frederick Mason of Ocean Isle Beach died Tuesday, July 25, 2011, at Loris Community Hospital. He was born in Brownsville, PA on January 27, 1922. He attended the University of Pittsburgh prior to enlisting in the Army Air Corp, which later evolved into the United States Air Force. He became a pilot and was stationed in England for six months during WWII where he was a co-pilot on a B17. He flew thirty-five missions over Germany, including two missions on D-Day. Hal and his wife moved to Ocean Isle Beach in August of 1982.
He is survived by Louise Mason, his wife of 65 years; his daughter, Laurel Wright; and son, Mike Mason. He is preceded in death by his eldest son, Bruce Mason.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Friday, July 29, 2011 at Shallotte Presbyterian Church by The Rev. John Causey.

Blair Aller Guker
Blair Aller Guker, 81, of Shallotte, NC, died Tuesday, July 26, 2011 in the Conway Medical Center, Conway, SC.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ on December 23, 1929, he was a son of the late John and Julia Aller Guker. Mr. Guker was the owner of Blair’s Rentals of Toms River, NJ until his retirement, when he and his wife moved to Shallotte. He was a member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church and will be remembered as a loving husband and father. Blair was preceded in death by his brother John “Jack” Guker.
Surviving are his wife Charlotte J. Guker; a son, Blair A. Guker and wife Cherryl of Toms River, NJ; two daughters, Linda J. Wortmann of Shallotte, NC, Debra Tysoe and husband Roger of Mountain Home, PA; a sister, Dorothy Hankins of Florida; twelve grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Monday, August 1, 2011 in the Shallotte Presbyterian Church by the Reverend John Causey.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Blair’s memory to the Shallotte Presbyterian Church “Building Fund” at PO BOX 3256, Shallotte, NC 28459.

Marie C. Barry
Marie Calu Barry, 85, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC entered into rest Tuesday, July 26, 2011.
Marie was born October 8, 1925 in Trenton, NJ to the late Giacomo and Elizabeth Court Calu. Raised in Trenton, NJ, Marie attended Cathedral High School. She met her love, Joseph Barry, on a blind date in 1944. Marie and Joe married icon October 5, 1946.
Marie’s truly was a life well lived. She and Joe traveled the world, experiencing many places well before they became “jet set” destinations. They raised their six children in Trenton and in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. She was the silent partner in her husband’s business, Kel-Tren Service, for 41 years, while being the “chief cook and bottle washer” at 110 Lake Avenue. Marie volunteered countless hours at her children’s schools, at local hospitals, and taught people to read in various literacy programs.
Marie and Joe retired to Ocean Isle Beach in 1988 and continued to enjoy their family and their passions for travel, golf, gardening, and volunteering.
Marie’s life can never be summed up in a brief notice. Her love of language, reading, travel, art, cooking and hospitality spanned decades and influenced her family and friends alike. She had strong convictions, beliefs and values, including integrity, respect, acceptance, creativity and adventure. These values are her legacy as they live on in her family. She will be remembered daily by all who knew her and quoted often by those who loved her.
Marie leaves behind her husband of sixty four years, Joseph Barry; two daughters JoAnne Kelley, partner Tim White, of Pleasanten, CA, and Betsy Durchuck, of Raleigh, NC; four sons Joe Barry, wife Gabrielle, of Malvern, PA, John Barry, partner Dale West, of West Hollywood, CA, Michael Barry, wife Carol, of The Woodlands, TX, and Tom Barry, wife Pamela, of Newtown, PA; thirteen grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held at St. Brendan’s Catholic Church Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 11:00 AM.
Prayers are welcome and donations may be made to the St. Brendan’s Building Fund PO Box 2984 Shallotte, NC 28459.

Joanne Mary Carleton
Joanne Mary Carleton, 75, of Calabash, NC died Monday, July 25, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Carleton was born August 12, 1935 in Detroit, MI to the late Bernard and Deveta Biggs Powers. She graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit, MI; and was employed for eight years at General Motors. Before moving to Brunswick Plantation she lived in Detroit, Milwaukee, Westport, CT, and Upper St. Clair, PA.
Surviving is her husband of 51 years William “Bill” Carleton; three daughters Karen Pocius, husband Mark, of Westport, CT, Andrea Gillett, husband Greg, of Dunwoody, GA, and Cheryl Gibson, husband Andrew, of Upper St. Clair, PA; and seven grandchildren Robert Pocius, Michelle Pocius, Cameron Gillett, Adam Gillett, Callie Gillett, Carleton Gibson, and Christian Gibson.
A Celebration of Life will be conducted Friday, July 29, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 801 11th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach, SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060.

Elizabeth “Beth” Hewett Andrews
Elizabeth “Beth” Hewett Andrews, 84, affectionately known as Aunt Beth, Mamie, and Beth Beth of Wilmington, NC formerly of Shallotte, NC died Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Andrews was born September 8, 1926 to the late Troy and Frances Viola Wilson Hewett. She was a devoted worker in the food ministry with Epworth United Methodist Church, Wilmington, NC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jule Andrews, two brothers, Leon and Cecil Hewett, and four sisters Louise Williams, Mary Brinson, Victoria Smith, and Margaret Sommersett.
Surviving are a daughter Judy Edwards (Johnny) of Wilmington, NC; two sons Larry Andrews (Priscilla) of Sunset Beach, NC and Earl Andrews (Kim) of Shallotte, NC; three sisters, Ruby Campbell of Council, NC, Dixie Hinson of Wilmington, NC and Clara Ward of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; grandchildren, Betty Norris, Tommy Edwards, Dave Andrews, Todd Andrews, Amanda Conway and Meredith Andrews; great grandchildren, John Michael Norris, Austin Edwards, Dillon Edwards, Brandon Edwards, Ethan Andrews, Jared Andrews and Maddox Conway.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by the Reverend Randy Wagner and the Reverend Jeff Russ. Burial will follow in the Brunswick Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends Friday, July 29, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Active pallbearers will be Greg White, Alan Tyree, Brent Robinson, Chris Russ, Brad Stanley and Jeff Russ. Honorary pallbearers will be Nell Harrellson, Jim Culpepper, Hollis Smith and Melva Smith.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be directed to the Epworth United Methodist Church, PO Box 3455, Wilmington, NC 28401.
The family of Mrs. Andrews would like to thank Dr. William Hope, the 7th, 10th floor, and ICU nurses of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
