WHITEVILLE -- Ralph Joshua Bowen, 75, of 1773 Midway Drive died Tuesday in Columbus County Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Chadbourn by the Rev. Ricky Donaldson. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowen is survived by three sons, Sammy K. Bowen of Ayden, and Dexter L. Bowen and Elton J. Bowen, both of Whiteville; a daughter, Carolyn B. Newberry of Fairmont; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home.
Hugh O. Williams (Dated Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998)
CLINTON -- Hugh Oliver Williams, 70, of Mary Gran Nursing Center, formerly of Autryville, died Monday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

James R. Beal (Dated Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998)
SELMA -- James Rudolph Beal, 65, of Selma, formerly of Cumberland County, died Monday in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Parrish Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Bud Parrish and Sam Fuson. Burial will be in Selma Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Beal is survived by his wife, Patsy A. Beal; three sons, Ricky Beal of Georgia, Eddie Beal of Garner and Jeremy Beal of Four Oaks; a daughter, Marie B. Johnson of Selma; three brothers, Gerald Beal, Kirby Beal and Tony Beal, all of Fayetteville; three sisters, Rebecca Smith and Annette Beal, both of Fayetteville, and Shirley Fowler of Clinton, S.C.; and nine grandchildren.
Mrs. Inez M. Ivey (Dated Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998)
BENSON -- Mrs. Inez Martin Ivey, 82, of Benson died Monday in Charles Parrish Nursing Center in Dunn.
Mrs. Ivey was a homemaker and worked in the convalecent care business. She was a member of Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Benson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Revs. Jimmy Barnhill and L.B. Collins. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Ivey is survived by two daughters, Bobbie J. Waked and Nancy Gilbert, both of Fayetteville; two sons, Kenneth R. Ivey of Dallas and Tony E. Ivey of Benson; three sisters, Doris Brown and Selma King, both of Roanoke Rapids, and Joy Belt of Portage, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Tony and Cindy Ivey, 294 Shade Tree Road, Benson.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Charles Otto Woodard, 62, of 5141 Wichita Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in his home.

Roy O. Cathey Sr. (Dated Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998)
Roy Otis Cathey Sr., 67, of 4213 Loufield Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
Mr. Cathey was a real estate broker. He was a mason and a member of Phoenix Lodge No. 8 and Sudan Temple.
A memorial service with masonic rites will be held at 2 p.m Thursday in Gardner’s United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Davis.
Mr. Cathey is survived by his wife, Judy Cathey of the home; a son, Roy Cathey Jr. of Atlanta; two daughters, Joy O’Nale of Atlanta and Sherrie Hauer of Fayetteville; two brothers, Neal Cathey of Weaverville and Kenneth Cathey of Candler; a sister, Emily Wilson of Candler; and two grandchildren.

Ms. Maude S. Hepler (Dated Wednesday, Oct. 28, 1998)
TAYLORSVILLE -- Ms. Maude Wilma Crisp Sigmon Hepler, 73, of Taylorsville died Tuesday in Kirkwood Hospice in Lenior.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in East Taylorsville Baptist Church by the Revs. Gary Jennings and Stephen Dagenhart. Burial will be in Stony Point Tabernacle cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Alexander Funeral Service.
Among Ms. Hepler’s survivors is a sister, Hilda Yeatts of Spring Lake.

PLANTATION, Fla. -- Mrs. Alice Faircloth Spell, 87, of Plantation, formerly of Roseboro, N.C., died recently.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in Butler Funeral Home in Roseboro by the Rev. Carrie Parrish. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, N.C.
Mrs. Spell is survived by two daughters, Mary S. Parson of Plymouth, Mich., and Jennie S. Poore of Plantation; a sister, Lula F. Hall of Plantation; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Della Jean Mabe, 62, of 3290-A Sommer Drive died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Mabe was a supervisor for Converse Incorporated in Lumberton.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Larry Grady. Burial will be in Parkton Cemetery.
Mrs. Mabe is survived by a son, Richard V. Mabe Jr. of Elizabethtown; three daughters, Cathy M. Edwards and Wanda C. Mabe, both of Lumberton, and Cynthia J. Stepan of Hope Mills; three brothers, Elbert Ivey and Dennis Ivey, both of Parkton, and Charlie Ivey of Fayetteville; two sisters, Mary E. Sumakeris of Fayetteville and Shirley Ivey of Lumberton; and six grandchildren.

CLINTON -- Mrs. Sarah Juanita Knowles Matthis, 88, of 1850 Chancey Road died Tuesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Matthis was a member of Red Hill Universalist Church. She was a homemaker.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Red Hill Universalist Church by the Revs. Vernon Chandler and W.O. Reiber III. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Matthis is survived by two daughters, Janet K. Robinson of Rosehill and Sarah M. Colvin of Atkinson; five sisters, Cleone Burton, Virginia Matthis and Esther Carter, all of Clinton, Dixie McCormick of Zuni, Va., and Nina Harvell of Harrells; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by her husband, Albert Wilson of Fayetteville.

Thomas of Fairmont; her father, John Thomas of Fairmont; four brothers, Frank Thomas and Johnny Thomas, both of Fairmont, Samuel Oxendine of Rowland and Leo Thomas of Lumberton; a sister, Annie P. Mr. Gilmore is survived by his wife, Odessa Gilmore of the home; a daughter, Bobbie J. Smithson of New York; a son, Paul Gilmore Jr. of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.
