William J. Byrne Jr. (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

PINEHURST -- William Joseph Byrne Jr., 68, of 12 Lake Pinehurst Villas died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Mr. Byrne was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

A mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church by Father Robert T. Lawson. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.

Mr. Byrne is survived by his wife, Mary F. Byrne; and five sons, William J. Byrne III of Ellicott City, Md., Thomas Byrne of Telluride, Colo., James Byrne of Laurel, Md., Matthew Byrne of Athens, Ga., and Peter Byrne of New York.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Powell Funeral Home & Crematory.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, P.O. Box 1768, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370.

Mrs. Mary B. Wallace (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. -- Mrs. Mary Corrine Barefoot Wallace, 74, of 2035 Henry Hutchins Road, formerly of Dunn, N.C., died Saturday in Calvert Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the Cromartie, Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by the Rev. Francis Daniel. Burial will be in the Hodges Chapel Church cemetery in Benson, N.C.

Mrs. Wallace is survived by three sons, David J. Wallace of Wade, N.C., Samuel W. Wallace of Hawkinsville, Ga., and Calvin C. Wallace of Prince Frederick; three daughters, Florence E. Lindsay of Lusby, Md., Jeanette L. Siedenetricker of Prince Frederick and Mary H. Gott of Port Republic, Md.; two brothers, William Barefoot of Dunn and Miles Barefoot of South Boston, Va.; three sisters, Reather Norris of Dunn, Ernestine Bradley of Erwin, N.C., and Maggie Harris of Godwin, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Th family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Walter J. Hill (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

WHITEVILLE -- Walter James Hill, 72, of Whiteville died Saturday in Brunswick Hospital in Supply.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in St. James AME Church by the Rev. H.A. Ingram. Burial will be in Campground Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home.

Mr. Hill is survived by five sons, Walter Hill Jr., Terry Collier and Gregory Collier, all of Whiteville, Marty Collier of Raleigh and Larie V. Hill of Tabor City; and four sisters, Mary Lee of Newark, N.J., and Betty Monroe, Louise Currie and Cecil Nance, all of Spring Valley, N.Y.

Mrs. Elizabeth Didur (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

Mrs. Elizabeth Didur, 87, of 1601 Purdue Drive, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Village Greeen Care Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Mrs. Billie R. Brown (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

DUNN -- Mrs. Billie Redding Brown, 62, of Route 8 died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Durham.

Mrs. Brown was the bookkeeper for James R. Brown Construction Co.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Skinner Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Gabriel Tew and Bill Goodnight. Burial will be in Williford Cemetery.

Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James R. Brown of Dunn; three sons, David Redding and Donnie Redding, both of Lillington, and Steven Redding of Dunn; a stepson, Terry Brown of Newton Grove; and 14 grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Allene G. Everett (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Allene G. Everett, 77, of 808 W. Allen Lane died Sunday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roxie J. Gilchrist (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

DURHAM -- Mrs. Roxie Jones Gilchrist, 89, of Durham, formerly of Laurinburg died Sunday in Hillhaven Nursing Home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Laurinburg by the Rev. T.R. Davis. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mrs. Gilchrist is survived by a daughter, Estella McRae of Durham; a sister, Polly Jones of Laurinburg; a brother, Milton J. Jones of Fayetteville; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Morris Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Polly Jones, 332 Vance St., Laurinburg.

Edward Willis (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

ST. PAULS -- Edward Willis, 74, of 5540 Chickenfoot Road died Saturday in Bladen County Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by L.E. Floyd Funeral Home.

Sgt. Maj. James Grubbs (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

Army Sgt. Maj. James E. Grubbs, 45, of 7245 Reedy Creek Road, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in LaFayette Funeral Home. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.

Sgt. Maj. Grubbs is survived by his wife, Christina Grubbs of the home; three sons, James P. Grubbs of St. Pauls and Jimmy L. Grubbs and Ronnie L. Grubbs, both of Spring Lake; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Miss Miah Kirkland (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

ROSEBORO -- Miss Miah Kirkland, infant daughter of Taheera Hardin and Russell Kirkland, of 405 E. Jackson St. died Friday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home by the Rev. Marcus Becton. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

In addition to her parents, Miah is survived by two sisters, Amani Kirkland and Alyssia Kirkland, both of the home; two brothers, Corey Kirkland and Marquis Hardin, both of the home; her maternal grandmother, Myrtle Boyd of Clinton; and her paternal grandmother, Alice Kirkland of Warsaw.

The family will receive friends today from 2 to 5:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Morris L. Britt (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

ORRUM -- Morris Lee Britt, 59, of 1264 Elijah Road died Monday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory of Lumberton.

Ms. Janice T. Baltazar (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

PARKTON -- Ms. Janice Sheree Thomas Baltazar, 23, of Parkton died Saturday.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory of Lumberton.

Ralph I. Faulkner (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Ralph I. Faulkner, 68, of 394 Bullard Circle, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Adcock Funeral Home.

Keshawn K. Porter (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- Keshawn Kashmir Porter, infant son of Sgt. and Mrs. Caston Porter Jr., of 3835 Goforth Road died Friday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Roosevelt Cemetery in Chesapeake, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary of Fayetteville.

In addition to his parents, Keshawn is survived by a brother, Deaquan A. Porter; his maternal grandmother, Janet Skinner; his grandfather, Danny R. Harris; his great-grandmothers, Sarah Lawton and Gladis Harris, both of Chesapeake; his paternal grandparents, Caston and Cordell Porter Sr.; his great-grandmothers, Sarah Porter and Eva Watson, both of Kenner, La.

Bobby Mangum (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Bobby Mangum, 68, of 1167 Long Branch Drive died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mr. Mangum retired from the Army.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills. Burial will be in the Cameron Hill Presbyterian Church cemetery in Cameron.

Mr. Mangum is survived by his wife, Joyce R. Mangum of the home; two sons, Michael Mangum of Latta, S.C., and Barry Mangum of Pembroke; a daughter, Tami Chastain of Lumberton; a stepdaughter, Jean Allen of Dillon, S.C.; two stepsons, Jimmy Carter of Lumberton and John Council Jr. of Garner; a sister, Dorothy Smith of Bladenboro; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Joyce P. Romine (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Joyce P. Romine, 68, of 112 Carolina Ave. died Saturday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Romine was a member of First Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home by Dr. David Kolb. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery."

Mrs. Romine is survived by a daughter, Ann Babkowski of Indianapolis; a son, Don Romine of Clinton; three sisters, Notre Yarborough of Clinton, Lib Meier of Bloomington, Minn., and Peggy Reynolds of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

James W. ‘Jim’ Pait (Dated Tuesday, Oct. 20, 1998)

LELAND -- James Willard “Jim” Pait, 58, of Leland, formerly of Bladenboro, died Monday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Mr. Pait retired from the Air Force.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel in Wilmington by the Rev. S.L. Doty. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.

Mr. Pait is survived by his wife, Faye M. Pait of the home; three sons, Joseph B. Pait, Terry A. Pait and Robyn Pait, all of Albany, Ga.; a daughter, Patsy “Penny” Turbeville of Wilmington; a sister, Brenda P. Brown of Fayetteville; a brother, Woody H. “Bill” Pait of Fayetteville; and eight grandchildren.

David M. McNeill (Dated Monday, Oct. 19, 1998)

BOLIVIA -- David McAllister McNeill, 72, of 659 Darby St., formerly of Wade, died Saturday in his home.

Mr. McNeill was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Sunset Harbor.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery in Wade by Dr. Robert Yoder and the Rev. Brian Chilton.

Mr. McNeill is survived by five brothers, Robert E. McNeill, Hugh McNeill and Carl B. McNeill, all of Fayetteville, Charles A. McNeill of Jacksonville and James A. McNeill of Sacramento, Calif.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home in Fayetteville and at other times at 1605 Twin Oak Drive.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Sunset Harbor, Bolivia, N.C., or to Old Bluff Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 96, Wade, N.C.
