Welton Oxendine (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

RED SPRINGS -- Welton Oxendine, 71, of 152 Bryant Road died Thursday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Mr. Oxendine was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses by Minister George Lee. Arrangements are being handled by Red Springs Funeral Home.

Mr. Oxendine is survived by his wife, Geneva Oxendine of the home; three sons, Welton J. Locklear, Donnie L. Oxendine Sr. and Terry W. Oxendine, all of Red Springs; a daughter, Regina Sinclair of Red Springs; his mother, Tommie J. Oxendine of Red Springs; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Mrs. Rosie L. Hardin (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

PEMBROKE -- Mrs. Rosie Ladson Hardin, 95, of Pemberton Nursing Center, formerly of Fairmont, died Thursday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Fairmont by Dr. W.C. Marable. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Lumberton. Arrangements are being handled by Hill Funeral Home.

Mrs. Hardin is survived by two daughters, Virginia H. McKellar of Fairmont and Mary L. Drumright of New York; a sister, Jannie Mitchell of Fairmont; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Virginia H. McKellar, 413 Jackson St. in Fairmont.

Ralph T. Patterson (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

BROADWAY -- Ralph Thomas Patterson, 85, of Broadway died Friday in Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.

The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in Holly Springs Baptist Church by the Rev. Jerry Parsons. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife, Dora T. Patterson of the home; three daughters, Lynda P. Holder of Poquoson, Va., Agnes P. Kelly of Broadway and Carolyn P. James of Chapel Hill; a son, Larry T. Patterson of Broadway; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 266, Lillington, N.C. 27546.

William E. Dukes (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

WHITEVILLE -- William E. Dukes, 63, of 724 Pinewood Drive died Tuesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Central Baptist Church by the Rev. David Flowers. Burial will be in Belvue Cemetery in Chadbourn. Arrangements are being handled by D&A Funeral Service of Chadbourn.

Mr. Dukes is survived by his wife, Laverne L. Dukes; two sons, Gary Dukes of Fayetteville and Melvin Dukes of the home; a daughter, Alesia Dukes of Charlotte; three brothers, James Dukes and Bobby L. Dukes, both of Whiteville, and Willie F. Dukes of High Point; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the church.

William K. Williford (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

BENSON -- William Kirby Williford, 72, of 2811 Beasley Road died Friday in his home.

Mr. Williford worked for the North Carolina Department of Corrections for 25 years before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Banner Post 109 American Legion.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rose & Graham Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Ronnie LaFevers. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Williford is survived by his wife, Annie B. Williford; a daughter, Maryann Lassiter of Angier; two stepchildren, Ruth L. Reynolds of Selma and McLendon Reynolds of Benson; a sister, Eva Keene of Raleigh; a brother, Ralph Williford of Newton Grove; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Benson Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 23, Benson, N.C. 27504.

Mrs. Willie B. Bynum (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

SPRING LAKE -- Mrs. Willie Lee Barrow Bynum, 67, of 242 Eppingdale Drive died recently.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Suggs Christian Temple in Wilson by Dr. Walter O. Whitfield. Burial will be in Hamilton Burial Garden.

Mrs. Bynum is survived by four daughters, Wendy B. Crawford of Acworth, Ga., Margaret Barrow and Katherine Barrow, both of Spring Lake, and Connie B. Walker of Irvington, N.J.; three sons, Moses Barrow and Howard Barrow, both of Spring Lake, and James Barrow of Newark, N.J.; four sisters, Vinnie Holt of Durham, Lillie Barrow of Troy, Ala., and Hattie Boyd and Corine Manley, both of Irvington; three brothers, Robert Manley of Saginaw, Mich., Adel Manley of Riceboro, Ga., and Ezell Manley of Irvington; 29 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Hamilton Funeral Chapel in Wilson.

Mrs. Hattie Farmer (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

TABOR CITY -- Mrs. Hattie Farmer, 71, of Tabor City died Thursday in Florence Regional Medical Center in Florence, S.C.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in New Light AME Church by the Rev. J.W. Nixon. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery.

Mrs. Farmer is survived by her husband, Bob L. Farmer; a son, Richard Mitchell; and three daughters, Linda Thomas, Betty Strickland and Veronica Kelly, all of Tabor City.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Westside Funeral Home.

Mrs. Vivian B. Kinlaw (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

WHITE OAK -- Mrs. Vivian Burge Kinlaw, 68, of White Oak died Thursday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in White Oak Baptist Church by the Rev. Samuel Watkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Kinlaw Funeral Home.

Mrs. Kinlaw is survived by two daughters, Reba McLemore of White Oak and Marguerite Kenley of Graham; three sons, James R. Kinlaw Jr. of Bladenboro, David A. Kinlaw of Charleston, S.C., and Robert L. “Bobby” Kinlaw of Elizabethtown; four sisters, Freda Moore of Martinsville, Ind., and Roxie Lowe, Norma Nevens and Jo Dukes, all of Indianapolis; a brother, Doral Burge of Gainsville, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Edith F. Davis (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- Mrs. Edith Funderburk Davis, 78, of 6812 Jaycamp Drive died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville by the Rev. Bob Polk. Arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home of Fayetteville.

Mrs. Davis is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Haymount United Methodist Church, 1700 Fort Bragg Road, Fayetteville, N.C. 28303, or to Falcon Children’s Home.

Richard T. Smith (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. -- Richard Thomas Smith, 56, of 108 Dew St., formerly of Wade, N.C., died Wednesday in Trident Regional Medical Center in North Charleston.

Mr. Smith was a crane operator for Flur-Daniels Construction Company before retiring.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville, N.C., by Dr. Yoder and the Rev. Mac Williams. Burial will be in Old Bluff Presbyterian Church cemetery in Wade.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Ida H. Smith of Goose Creek; two sons, Michael Logue of North Charleston and Terry Logue of Fayetteville; three daughters, Paula Morriss of St. Stephen and Dianna Logue and Tammy Logue, both of Fayetteville; two sisters, Reba Faircloth of Wade and Mary Baker of Jacksonville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from noon to 2 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Maida G. Young (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

LAKE WACCAMAW -- Mrs. Maida Grey Young, 74, of 1800 Vine St. died Friday in her home.

Mrs. Young was a member of Hallsboro Baptist Church. She worked as a food service director for Columbus County Hospital for 25 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in McKenzie Mortuary chapel in Whiteville by the Rev. Ed Vogt. Burial will be in Lake Waccamaw Cemetery.

Mrs. Young is survived by two sons, Joseph C. Young of Lake Waccamaw and Gerald W. Young of Wilmington; a brother, Graham W. Reynolds of Hallsboro; a sister, Iris R. Kavros of Medford, Ore.; and a grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Hallsboro Baptist Church or Columbus County Home Health.

Michael G. Hollingsworth (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- Retired Army Master Sgt. Michael G. Hollingsworth, 60, of 5939 Rehobath Road died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Reeves Funeral Home.

Mrs. Yvonne S. Stewart (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

GREENSBORO -- Mrs. Yvonne Stancil Stewart, 77, of Heritage Greens Retirement Community, formerly of Dunn, died Thursday in Wesley-Long Community Hospital.

Mrs. Stewart taught gifted and talented programs in Davie, Harnett and Hanover counties. She was also one of the founders of Harnett Regional Theatre.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Erwin United Methodist Church in Erwin by the Rev. Ken Hall. Burial will be in Erwin Memorial Park.

Mrs. Stewart is survived by four daughters, Jennie Stewart of Greensboro, Marsha Ingalls of Arizona, Ann Hancock of Oxford and Patricia Westbrook of Erwin; a sister, Betty W. Johnson of Lumberton; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Skinner Funeral Home in Dunn.

Harry A. Thompson (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

ERWIN -- Harry Allen Thompson, 79, of 102 E. J St. died Friday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Skinner Funeral Home chapel in Dunn by the Revs. Jerome Pope and Steve Lawson. Burial will be in Erwin Memorial Park.

Mr. Thompson is survived by his wife, Maxine Thompson of Erwin; two sons, Tim Thompson of Coats and Harry “Al” Thompson Jr. of Raleigh; two daughters, Karen Davis of Raleigh and Genny Kelly of Atlanta; a sister, Geneva Insley of White Mountain, Ariz.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Jesse Hulon (Dated Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998)

HOPE MILLS -- Jesse Hulon, 71, of 310 Brooklyn Circle died Friday in his home.
