ST. PAULS -- Henry “Toby” Gilmoro Sr., 78, of Alford Road died Thursday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Arrangements will be announced by McKoy & Sons Mortuary.

Mrs. Ila W. Johnson (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

FAIRMONT -- Mrs. Ila Warren Johnson, 70, of McDonald Road died Friday in Kingsdale Manor.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Rowland Cemetery by the Rev. Warren Holleman.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Victoria J. Barnes of Nags Head and Kitty J. Britt of McDonald; three brothers, Percy Warren of Fayetteville, Clarence Warren of Newton Grove and Carlton Warren of Dunn; three sisters, Ruth Holleman and Jewel Stone, both of Apex, and Frances Dunn of Dunn; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Memorials may be made to Robeson Little Theatre, P.O. Box 613, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

William ‘Sam’ Alred (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- William “Sam” Alred, 68, of 230 Parrot Road died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mrs. Edwina C. Manuel (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

ERWIN -- Mrs. Edwina Chapelle “Goobie” Manuel, 53, of Erwin died Wednesday in Good Hope Hospital.

Mrs. Manuel was a homemaker. She was a member of Pine Prairie Church of Christ.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Turkey Creek Church of Christ by the Revs. Bob Morrow and Tim Morrow. Burial will be in Turkey Creek Cemetery. Local arrangements are being handled by Price Funeral Home.

Mrs. Manuel is survived by her husband, Raymond Manuel of Erwin; two sons, Guy Manuel of Houston and Benjamin Manuel of Erwin; two daughters, Emily M. Lucas and April Manuel, both of Dunn; her parents, Edwin and Maude Chapelle of Glenmora, La.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends today at the church.

Lenwood C. Lee Sr. (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

CHARLOTTE -- Lenwood Currie “Jack” Lee Sr., 88, of 5939 Reddman Road, formerly of Lumberton, died Friday in Brian Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory of Lumberton.

Mr. Lee is survived by his wife, Katherine W. Lee of the home; a son, Lenwood C. Lee Jr. of Charlotte; a daughter, Sally L. Scheffsky of Charlotte; and five grandchildren.

John C. Locklear (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

MAXTON -- John C. Locklear, 26, of 126 Salem Road died Thursday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Bear Swamp Baptist Church in Pembroke by the Revs. Herman Locklear, Tim Chavis and Anthony Locklear. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Locklear is survived by his wife, Peggy G. Locklear; his parents, Hubert and Judy Locklear of Maxton; two brothers, Hubert M. Locklear and William P. Locklear, both of Maxton; and two sisters, Terri Nance and Myra Woodard, both of Maxton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Butler Funeral Service.

Ms. Maude M. Davis (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Ms. Maude McDaniel Davis, 80, of The Carrolton, formerly of Fairmont, died Friday.

Ms. Davis was a member of Iona Presbyterian Church. She was a homemaker.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Iona Presbyterian Church cemetery in Fairmont by the Rev. Emily M. Davis.

Ms. Davis is survived by a daughter, Carol D. Parke of Greensboro; three sisters, Lema Collins of Orrum, Vernie Huggins of Fairmont and Ina Jones of Florence, S.C.; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont.

Memorials may be made to Iona Presbyterian Church, 150 Sandy Road, Fairmont, N.C. 28340, or to The Carrolton, 1170 Linkhaw Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Clarence E. Haywood (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

LAURINBURG -- Clarence Everette Haywood, 72, of 201 Second St. died Thursday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Butler Funeral Service chapel by the Rev. Jeff McGirt. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.

Mr. Haywood is survived by his wife, Louise Haywood; a daughter, Jo Ann Shoemake of Laurel Hill; three stepdaughters, Pat Smith of Wagram, Alice Ramon of Rockingham and Mary Hughes of Cape Coral, Fla.; a stepson, Billy McCormick of Tennessee; a sister, Vancie Warren of Tennessee; 20 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Willie J. McLean (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

COUNCIL -- Willie Jones McLean, 5-year-old son of Bobby and Merly McLean, of 97 Jessie Harvey Road, died Tuesday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in St. James Holiness Church by the Rev. Stanley Richardson. Burial will be in Carvers Creek Church cemetery.

In addition to his parents, Willie is survived by two sisters, Tabitha McLean and Denise Brown, both of Council; a brother, Jaantrel McLean of Council; his grandparents, Winsley and Nathiel Moore of New Haven, Conn.; his grandmother, Mary McLean of Council; and his great-grandmother, Ida B. McLean of Council.

The family will receive friends today from 10 a.m. to noon at Johnson’s Funeral Service in Elizabethtown.

Dallas Y. Davis-Purvis (Dated Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998)

RALEIGH -- Dallas Yarborough Davis-Purvis, infant son of Dana Y. Davis, formerly of Fayetteville, and Antonio S. Purvis of Raleigh, died Wednesday in Rex Hospital.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Rockfish Memorial Park. Arrangements are being handled by Wiseman Mortuary of Fayetteville.

In addition to his parents, Dallas is survived by his maternal grandparents, Lonnie and Valerie Davis of Fayetteville; and his paternal grandparents, Phillip and Willie Purvis of Plymouth.

Jesse M. Whitted (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

Jesse Martin Whitted, 46, of 225 Whitted Town Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Dove Chapel AME Zion Church in Turnball by the Rev. M.E. Stubbs. Burial will be in the China Grove Church cemetery.

Mr. Whitted is survived by his wife, Janet Whitted of the home; two stepdaughters, Tyhell Williams of Fayetteville and Venica Malloy of Raleigh; two stepsons, Lester Malloy and L’Shea Malloy, both of Fayetteville; his mother, Lorene Whitted of Fayetteville; seven brothers, Perry Whitted, Robert Whitted, Samuel Whitted, Clarence Whitted and Wendell Whitted, all of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., and Roy Whitted and Bobby Whitted, both of Fayetteville; six sisters, Hildred Holmes of Catskill, N.Y., Myrtle Peterson of Roseboro, Hesbia McLean of Poughkeepsie and Ruth McDowell, Delphine Whitted and Rowena People, all of Fayetteville; and a grandson.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Michael J. Smith (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

Michael Jake Smith, infant son of Kenneth and Jacqueline Smith, of 6572 Applewhite Road, Fayetteville, died Monday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in 82nd Airborne Division Memorial Chapel by Chaplain Raymon Moore and Father Jack McClain. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by LaFayette Funeral Home.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by a brother, Angel M. Smith of the home; his grandparents, Raymon and Sunilda Alba of New Jersey; his paternal grandfather, William Flemming of Pennsylvania; his great-great-grandmother, Maria Alba of New Jersey; and his great-great-grandparents, Dulce and Francisco of the Dominican Republic.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon at the chapel.

David F. Porter (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

David F. Porter, 77, of 3019 Smith St., Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Hamilton-Porter Funeral Home of Hope Mills.

Louis A. Baker (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

Louis Alexander Baker, 82, of 6511 Schaffer Place, Fayetteville, died Monday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Friendship Baptist Church by the Rev. S. Lee Downing. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Mary L. Baker of the home; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at Wiseman Mortuary.

John Purdie (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

John Purdie, 64, of 522 Donovan St., Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Elder Lodge.

Enis Bradford Hall Jr., 30, of 640 Biscayne Drive, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary.

Paul F. Gilmore (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

Paul Frank Gilmore, 79, of 715 Silk Lane, Fayetteville, died Oct. 24 in Elder Lodge.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Faith Tabernacle Holiness Church by the Rev. Vincent Key. Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.

Mr. Gilmore is survived by his wife, Odessa Gilmore of the home; a daughter, Bobbie J. Smithson of New York; a son, Paul Gilmore Jr. of Raleigh; and two grandchildren.

Robert W. Sutton Sr. (Dated Friday, Nov. 27, 1998)

STEDMAN -- Robert W. Sutton Sr., 64, of Route 2, Box 286 AB, died Wednesday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.

Mr. Sutton was a veteran of the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev. Kenneth Jackson. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Sutton is survived by his wife, Ruby E. Sutton of the home; two daughters, Robin Glover of Youngsville and Ruby Starling of Stedman; a son, Robert W. Sutton Jr. of Zebulon; three sisters, Jean Daughtry of Grantham, Shirley Thigpen of Dudley and Dorothy Bowden of Mount Olive; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
