Nathaniel R. Voss Jr. (Dated Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998)

WHISPERING PINES -- Retired Air Force Col. Nathaniel R. Voss Jr., 84, of Whispering Pines died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Voss retired from the Air Force after 30 years of service.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Carthage United Methodist Church. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Bragg Main Post Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Voss is survived by his wife, Grace M. Voss; two brothers, Ned Voss of Whispering Pines and Ray Voss of Howey In The Hills, Fla.; and three sisters, Maurine Jaenecke of Riverside, Calif., Emilie Lewis of Freemont, Calif., and Dot Perry of Kannapolis.

Memorials may be made to FirstHealth Hospice, P.O. Box 1956, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370.

Ms. Edna P. Burke (Dated Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998)

CLINTON -- Ms. Edna Pearson Burke, 75, of 4970 Mosley Ave. died Saturday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Mount Gilead Baptist Church by the Revs. Lynn Bullock and Fulton Thomas. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Ms. Burke is survived by a son, Phillip Burke of Clinton; a sister, Frances “Frankie” Smith of Newton Grove; three brothers, Harry S. Pearson and Ashley G. Pearson, both of Clinton, and Lacey L. Pearson of Goldsboro; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Tommy Locklear (Dated Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998)

MAXTON -- Tommy Locklear, 53, of Old Baker Road died Friday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Locklear & Son Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Daniel Jacobs and James. Burial will be in the Locklear family cemetery.

Mr. Locklear is survived by four aunts and six uncles.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

William N. McCormick (Dated Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- William Neal McCormick, 47, of 1596 Meadow Road died Saturday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

Mr. McCormick was formerly employed with the Southern Pines, Sanford and Lumberton police departments. He was a member of the N.C. Law Enforcement Officers Association.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Hestertown Church of God by the Revs. Ronald Scott, Eugene Scott and James Hunt. Burial will be in Barbecue Presbyterian Church cemetery in Olivia.

Mr. McCormick is survived by a daughter, Natalie P. Scott of Lumberton; his mother, Marie Simpler of Albemarle; a half brother, William Simpler of Albemarle; a half sister, Stella Simpler of Albemarle; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mrs. Mary K. Richardson (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

Mrs. Mary Kathryn Richardson, 60, of 5013 Redwood Drive, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Cliffdale Christian Center by the Rev. Randy Goodman. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Richardson is survived by a daughter, Susan Hatchell of Hope Mills; two sons, Harold Richardson of Fayetteville and Steve Richardson of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Annie L. Ivey of Fayetteville, Mable Edge of Lumberton and Hazel Hill of Norwood; six grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Angel M. Colon (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

Angel Manuel Colon, 41, of 5102 Spruce Drive, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Florida.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Reeves Funeral Home chapel in Hope Mills by the Rev. Julio Santana. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery.

Mr. Colon is survived by his parents, Manuel and Rosa M. Colon of Fayetteville; four brothers, Hector L. Colon of Queens, N.Y., Heriberto Colon of Texas and Fernando Colon and Pedro M. Colon, both of Orlando, Fla.; and three sisters, Migdalia Colon and Ida Colon, both of Fayetteville, and Elsie J. Colon of Queens.

The public will be received today from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Myrtle B. Green (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

Mrs. Myrtle Eleanor Barfield Green, 85, of 117 Tokay Drive, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in Cross Creek Cemetery by the Rev. Pearl Hall. Arrangements are being handled by Highland Funeral Service & Crematory.

Mrs. Green is survived by two sons, James R. Blackburn of Columbia, Tenn., and Jackie R. Blackburn of Fayetteville; three daughters, Sandra B. Jestes, Connie B. Elliott and Jeannie B. Morrison, all of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Lorraine Harris-Stewart (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

Mrs. Lorraine Harris-Stewart, 81, of 311 Hawthorne Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mrs. Harris-Stewart was a retired nurse.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in John Wesley Church by the Rev. Jesse Brunson. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

Mrs. Harris-Stewart is survived by a brother, Luke Morrison Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Margaret K. Gardner (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Margaret Kinlaw “Peggy” Gardner, 47, of 301 Grove Road, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Thursday.

Mrs. Gardner is survived by her husband, George W. Gardner; a stepson, Geoffrey W. Gardner of Pelzer; and her mother, Jean K. Miller of Colonial Beach, Va.

Arrangements are being handled by Mackey Mortuary.

Mrs. Virginia Thompson (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

FLORENCE, S.C. -- Mrs. Virginia Stewart Thompson, 77, of 324 Windover Drive, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Schoolfield Cemetery in Danville, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Barbara T. Simmons of Florence; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.

Ms. Nellie C. Sadowski (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

ABERDEEN -- Ms. Nellie Cromer Sadowski, 77, of Aberdeen died Friday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in Boles Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Zeb Moss. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.

Ms. Sadowski is survived by a daughter, Stella Martin of Fayetteville; a brother, William Cromer of Dinwiddie, Va.; two sisters, Margaret Sharp of Aberdeen and Lela Maitland of Petersburg, Va.; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

James E. Marsh (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

BLADENBORO -- James Edward Marsh, 60, of 16582 Twisted Hickory Road died Thursday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

Arrangements will be announced by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Russell J. Hamlin (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

SANFORD -- Russell John Hamlin, 61, of 2228 Colon Road died Wednesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home. Burial will be in Jones Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mr. Hamlin is survived by three sons, Fred Hamlin of California and the Rev. Billy Kottcamp and Arthur M. Kottcamp, both of Sanford; four daughters, Jody Hamlin of California, Thurleen O’Conner and Roseetta Krohn, both of Sanford, and Bessie T. Stone of Florida; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from noon to 1:45 at the funeral home.

Willie G. Johnson (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

MAGNOLIA -- Retired Navy Chief Petty Officer Willie G. Johnson, 72, of Magnolia died Thursday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Community Funeral Home chapel in Rose Hill. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.

Mr. Johnson is survived by four children, Joel L. Rogers of California, William Johnson of Mississippi, Willene Lanier of Fayetteville and Kathleen Carroll of Magnolia; four brothers, Kenneth Johnson and L.F. Johnson, both of Magnolia, Allan Johnson of Florida and Graham Johnson of Maryland; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Duncan W. Byrd (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

BUNNLEVEL -- Duncan Wesley Byrd, 92, of Bunnlevel died Thursday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. today in O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home chapel in Lillington by the Rev. Steve Gordon. Burial will be in Bunnlevel Cemetery.

Mr. Byrd is survived by a sister, Hazel B. Greene of Erwin; and a brother, Lassiter Byrd of Lillington.

The family will receive friends today from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Julius K. Tew (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

ERWIN -- Julius Kuroki Tew, 65, of 203 N. 12th St. died Friday in Good Hope Hospital.

Mr. Tew worked for Sprint for 40 years before retiring. He was a deacon at First Baptist Church and a member of Neill S. Stewart Lodge No. 556, 32nd Degree, Sudan Temple.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church by the Rev. Mark Whiting. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens in Dunn.

Mr. Tew is survived by his wife, Jean B. Tew of Erwin; a daughter, Karen Whittenton of Erwin; a sister, Brenda T. Turnage of Garner; and a grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Price Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 S. 12th St., Erwin, N.C. 28339.

Mrs. Ruby C. Jenkins (Dated Saturday, Nov. 21, 1998)

BUNNLEVEL -- Mrs. Ruby C. Jenkins, 59, of Bunnlevel died Thursday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Friendship Baptist Church by the Revs. Steve Gordon and King White. Burial will be in Westview Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Jenkins is survived by her husband, Fred Jenkins of the home; two daughters, Kathy J. Matthews of Greensboro and Karen L. Jenkins of Bunnlevel; a son, Tony Jenkins of Charleston, S.C.; two sisters, Evelyn C. Morgan of Aberdeen and Mary C. McGovern of Durham; three brothers, Robert Carroll of Lillington, James Carroll of Aberdeen and Hassell Carroll of Morehead City; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at O’Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home in Lillington.
