FLORENCE, N.J. -- Mrs. Gladys Lennon Harris of Florence, formerly of Evergreen, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Piney Grove Baptist Church in Evergreen by the Rev. Tonie Vereene. Burial will be in Lennon Cemetery in Evergreen. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville, N.C.

Mrs. Harris is survived by a daughter, Patty Harris; a son, Charles W. Harris Jr.; two brothers, Frank Lennon and Hubert Lennon; and two sisters, Gerthell Lennon and Jeanette Nichols.

Phillip L. Oliver (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

EVERGREEN -- Phillip Leon Oliver, 37, of 8216 Old U.S. 74 died Sunday in LCF Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday in Mount Horeb AME Church by the Rev. Judy Johnson. Burial will be in Evergreen Community Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mr. Oliver is survived by a son, Gerell Benjamin; his mother, Katie Oliver; and a sister, Hattie Linton.

James R. Williams (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

CERRO GORDO -- James Roscoe Williams, 72, of 76 Coleman Cemetery Road died Monday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Olive Grove Baptist Church in Fair Bluff by the Rev. Nathaniel Scott. Burial will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery in Fair Bluff. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mr. Williams is survived by three sisters, Beulah Snowten of Cerro Gordo, Katherine Turner of Pittsburgh and Maggie B. Williams of Whiteville; and a brother, Hoyt Williams of Cerro Gordo.

Lloyd W. Moore (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

CLARKTON -- Lloyd Woodrow Moore, 76, of 11 Robinson Ave. died Sunday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Union Baptist Church by the Rev. Ronald Campbell. Burial will be in Mitchell Field Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Peoples Funeral Home of Whiteville.

Mr. Moore is survived by three sons, Lloyd Moore Jr. of New York, Larry Clark of Jacksonville, Fla., and Andre Clark of Indianapolis.

Miss Kathryn A. Wieland (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

Miss Kathryn Ann Wieland, 18, of 4618 Fen Court, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham.

Miss Wieland was a member of Village Baptist Church. She was a student at N.C. State University in Raleigh.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Village Baptist Church by Dr. Bruce Martin and the Revs. Jack DeChurch and James C. Cain. Burial will be in First United Baptist Church cemetery.

Miss Wieland is survived by her parents, Gary M. and Sandra C. Wieland of the home; a brother, Timothy D. Scott of Spring Lake; her paternal grandmother, Ruth J. Wieland of Fayetteville; and her maternal grandparents, J.C. and Shirley Cain of Fayetteville.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Mrs. Ethel H. Blackwell (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

CERRO GORDO -- Mrs. Ethel Haigler Blackwell, 65, of Bill Nobles Road died Thursday in Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pages Mill True Light Holiness Church by the Revs. J.G. Blackman and Raeford Parker. Burial will be in Gowen Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackwell is survived by two sons, Larry D. Blackwell and Herman Blackwell Jr., both of Cerro Gordo; four daughters, Martha L. Goins of Whiteville and Glenda K. Funerburk, Lois J. Locklear and Alma L. Godwin, all of Cerro Gordo; 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home.

Mrs. Leah B. Lewis (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

GLEN ALLEN, Va. -- Mrs. Leah Beatty Lewis, 73, of 4800 Meredith Wood Road, formerly of Elizabethtown, N.C., died Monday in Elizabeth Adam-Crump Manor.

Mrs. Lewis was a retired beautician.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church in Elizabethtown by the Rev. James Beatty. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by two daughters, Agatha L. Stokes of Glen Allen and Merlin L. Ellis of Japan; her mother, Rosa Beatty of Roanoke; two brothers, Telphia Beatty of Kelly, N.C., and Johnny Beatty of San Francisco; four sisters, Ola Holland of Roanoke, Bel Anders of Kelly and Ivory Roddy and Laura Potter, both of Charlotte, N.C.; and four grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at F.W. Newton & Sons Mortuary.

Mrs. Earlie M. Thomas (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

PINEHURST -- Mrs. Earlie McGoogan Thomas, 98, of Manor Care of Pinehurst, formerly of Jackson Springs, died Tuesday.

Mrs. Thomas was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church. She was a nanny.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Providence Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Edward Williams. Burial will be in the McGoogan family cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Briggs Funeral Home of Candor.

The public will be received today from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.

Alan R. James (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

HOLLY SPRINGS -- Alan Ray James, 39, of Holly Springs died Wednesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Thomas Funeral Home of Fuquay-Varina.

Among Mr. James’ survivors is a sister, Nancy J. Thomas of Benson.

Angel M. Colon (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

Angel Manuel Colon, 41, of 5102 Spruce Drive, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Florida.

Arrangements will be announced by Reeves Funeral Home of Hope Mills.

Thomas A. Watson (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

WAGRAM -- Thomas Alton Watson, 64, of U.S. 401 North died Wednesday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Butler Funeral Service chapel in Laurinburg in the Rev. David Richardson. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Watson is survived by his wife, Peggy “Margaret” Watson; a son, Todd Watson of the home; a brother, Angus Watson of Laurinburg; and a sister, Jeanette Osborne of Fayetteville, Tenn.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Julia P. James (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

FUQUAY-VARINA -- Mrs. Julia Parker James, 90, of Brighton Manor Nursing Center, formerly of Angier, died Tuesday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Dafford Memorial chapel in Angier by elder Thomas Washington. Burial will be in Community Cemetery in Angier.

Mrs. James is survived by four brothers, Jacob Parker of Angier, Emanuel Parker of New York, Lenard Parker of Fuquay-Varina and Willis Parker of Queens, N.Y.; and a sister, Elouise Luud of Jacksonville.

The public will be received Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ruby S. Martin (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Ruby McCullen Sinclair Martin, 78, of Southwood Drive died Wednesday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home by the Rev. Dorothy Rudd. Burial will be in Keener United Methodist Church cemetery.

Mrs. Martin is survived by three daughters, Alice Bradsher of Clinton, Melba Merritt of Waycross and Judy Naylor of Dunn; five sisters, Oleita Wilson, Edith Hobbs, Eloise Wilson and Willa Flowers, all of Clinton, and Grace Sabin of Maine; a brother, Freeman McCullen of Kinston; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

William D. Monday (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- William Dale Monday, 83, of 404 W. 31st St. died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in First Baptist Church by Dr. William P. Tuck and the Rev. Joe Bounds. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Mount Comfort Cemetery in Alexandria, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mr. Monday is survived by his wife, Ann A. Monday of the home; a son, William D. Monday Jr. of Midlothian, Va.; a stepson, John S. Ayers of Fayetteville; a brother, Charles C. Monday on Front Royal, Va.; a sister, Mildred M. Richards of Beulah; and three grandsons.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 602 N. Walnut St., Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Wilbert H. Sampson (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Wilbert Harold Sampson, 50, of 415 Paris St. died Wednesday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday in Thompson’s Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Sampson is survived by his wife, Josephine Sampson of the home; a son, Bryon K. Sampson of Lumberton; his mother, Gertrude Sampson of Lumberton; five brothers, Eugene Sampson of High Point, Jimmy Sampson and John W. Sampson, both of Lumberton, Edwin Sampson of Pembroke and Michael Sampson of Maxton; a sister, Etiska S. Pinchbeck of Lumberton; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mrs. Rosa W. McRae (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

QUEENS, N.Y. -- Mrs. Rosa Lee Wade McRae of Queens, formerly of Laurinburg, N.C., died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Jones Chapel Baptist Church in Laurinburg by the Rev. T.R. Davis. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Laurinburg.

Mrs. McRae is survived by five sons, Charles Wade of Washington, D.C., James Wade and Nathaniel Wade, both of Maryland, George Wade of New York and Alonza Wade of New Jersey; three daughters, Hannah V. Riley of Brooklyn, Betty Cassady of Asheboro, N.C., and Audrey W. Mason of Laurinburg; a sister, Eva M. Windgard of Maryland; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today until 8 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home in Laurinburg.

Mrs. Henrietta M. Hill (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

RED SPRINGS -- Mrs. Henrietta McArthur Hill, 87, of 6C Highlander Apts. died Wednesday.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home.

Robert A. Patt (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

PINEHURST -- Robert A. Patt, 75, of Pinehurst died Thursday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.

Mr. Patt was a retired insurance agency owner. He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Private services will be held. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mr. Patt is survived by his wife, Barbara C. Patt of Pinehurst; two sons, Wayne Patt of Greenville, R.I., and Bruce Patt of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Cheryl Morrow of Burke, Va., and Deborah Zapasnik of Rehobeth, Mass.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Village Chapel, P.O. Box 1060, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370.

Daniel Chambers (Dated Friday, Nov. 20, 1998)

RED SPRINGS -- Daniel Chambers, 54, of McAllister Community died Nov. 12 in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. James AME Church by the Rev. Tim McKoy. Burial will be in Community Rest Cemetery.

Mr. Chambers is survived by four sisters, Alease Wright of Philadelphia, Elnora McKoy of Charlotte, Lena Campbell of Washington, D.C., and Mary Leake of Red Springs; and two brothers, Sisroe Chambers of Charlotte and Cleo Chambers of Capitol Heights, Md.

The public will be recieved today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home chapel.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.
