Mrs. Leslie H. Woodell (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
LAUREL HILL -- Mrs. Leslie Holmes Woodell, 77, of 17921 Fieldcrest Road died Wednesday in her home.
Mrs. Woodell was a member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. She owned and operated Woodell’s Produce Store.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Laurel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Dan Malpass. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park.
Mrs. Woodell is survived by two sons, Wilbert Woodell of the home and Delbert Woodell of Bennettsville, S.C.; three daughters, Margie W. Ward of Laurel Hill, Doris Quick of Hamlet and Betty A. Smith of Laurinburg; a brother, William R. “Buddy” Holmes of Fairmont; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McDougald Funeral Home in Laurel Hill.

Mrs. Mary M. Dockery (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
SOUTHERN PINES -- Mrs. Mary M. “Maggie” Dockery, 84, of St. Joseph of the Pines Nursing Center, formerly of Harnett County, died Monday.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in McLean Chapel Free Will Baptist Church in Bunnlevel by elders Benjamin Sutton and J.P. Currie. Burial will be in McLean Cemetery in Bunnlevel.
Mrs. Dockery is survived by a son, Marshall Dockery of Portsmouth, Va.; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
The public will be received Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Dafford Funeral Home in Dunn.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Albert and Mary Mungo, 175 Raynor McLamb Road, Bunnlevel.
Earl Owens (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
CLINTON -- Earl Owens, 84, of 1219 The Avenue died Sunday in Columbia Highsmith-Rainey Memorial Hospital in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Varnie Fullwood. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mr. Owens is survived by six daughters, Shirley Smith and Alice Holmes, both of Clinton, Jean Fryar, Melva Owens and Cynthia Owens, all of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Eva Bell of Faison, N.Y.; seven sons, Almond Owens, Raymond Owens, James Owens and Benny Owens, all of Clinton, Wendell Owens and Willie Owens, both of Huntington, N.Y., and Edward Owens of Brooklyn; four sisters, Ethelrene Underwood, Eva Bennett and Annie Matthis, all of Clinton, and Sally McRae of Teachey; 48 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Butler & Son Funeral Home.
Mrs. Peggy S. LaVigne (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
NEW BERN -- Mrs. Peggy Simpson LaVigne, 68, of 4716 Trentwood Drive died Tuesday in Edwin Morgan Center in Laurinburg.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in Christ Episcopal Church by the Rev. James Coleman. Entombment will be in the church’s columnbarium. Arrangements are being handled by McDougald Funeral Home & Crematorium of Laurinburg.
Among Mrs. LaVigne’s survivors is a son, Dr. Mark LaVigne of Laurinburg.
Mrs. Mildred A. McGhee (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
Mrs. Mildred A. McGhee, 63, of 1705 Eldridge St., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, Miss.
Mrs. McGhee was the former owner of R & M Beauty Supply.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Jones Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Cunningham & Sons Mortuary.
Mrs. McGhee is survived by a daughter, Renita Vega of Fayetteville; and two grandchildren.
Wardell Scott Sr. (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
LUMBERTON -- Wardell Scott Sr., 72, of 2950 Bragg St. died Wednesday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Floyd Memorial chapel by the Revs. James E. Hammonds and Samuel Jacobs. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Scott is survived by five sons, James P. Scott and Ronald D. Scott, both of the home, and Stonie Scott, Tony Scott and the Rev. James E. Hammonds, all of Lumberton; three daughters, Stella Morales of Hope Mills, Polly A. Hunt of Lumberton and Pamela Scott of Pembroke; a brother, Hubert Scott of Lumberton; a sister, Della Oxendine of Lumberton; and 13 grandchildren.

Larry E. Stuart (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
PAWLEY’S ISLAND, S.C. -- Retired Army Lt. Col. Larry Edwin Stuart, 62, of Pawley’s Island, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Tuesday in Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
During Mr. Stuart’s military career, he was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster, the Senior Army Aviator Badge, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Master Parachutist Badge and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm.
The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Rogers and Breece Funeral Home chapel in Fayetteville by the Rev. Jose Miranda. Burial with military honors will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake, N.C.
Mr. Stuart is survived by his wife, Luz M. Stuart of Pawley’s Island; a son, Larry E. Stuart Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five sisters, Marie Tabb, Helen Askew and Judy Adams, all of Colquitte, Ga., Betty Marden of Dallas and Hazel Tipton of Donaldsonville, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Stuart of Valdosta, Ga., and Bill Stuart of Houston; and four granddaughters.

AUTRYVILLE -- William James Fisher Sr., 61, of 1122 Jordan Road died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Carolyn H. Fisher of the home; two daughters, Mrs. Lonnie F. Collister of Autryville and Pamela Clark of Stedman; three sons, William J. Fisher Jr. of Bamberg, S.C., Robert L. Fisher of Autryville and Donald R. Fisher of Clinton; four sisters, Jewel Averitt and Joyce Oates, both of Roseboro, and Ada Faircloth and Lucille Brewington, both of Autryville; a brother, Gerald Fisher of Stedman; nine grandchilden; and a great-grandchild.

ZEBULON -- Archie Dowdy Jr., 53, of Route 4, Box 246, formerly of Eagle Springs, died Friday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Purcell Funeral Home in Southern Pines by the Rev. Dock Kelly III.
Mr. Dowdy is survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.

SANFORD -- H. Aubrey Ford Jr., 71, of 633 Spottswood Drive died Tuesday in his home.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife, Lagolia W. Gilbert of the home; a son, John W. Evans of Lanham, Md.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

William L. McNeill (Dated Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998)
SOUTHERN PINES -- William Leonard McNeill, 70, of 1355 W. New York Ave. died Monday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Mr. McNeill was a Mason. He was a member of St. Peter United Methodist Church. He retired from the Southern Pines Police Department.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in St. Peter United Methodist Church in Wagram by the Rev. Henry L. Blue. Burial will be in McNeill Cemetery in Wagram.
Mr. McNeill is survived by a son, Leon J. McNeill of Raeford; two brothers, Jesse J. McNeill of Wagram and Bruce King of McCain; and five grandchildren.

Mr. Jones was a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy.

Cox of Clinton, Md.; a sister, Vivous Pearson of Washington, D.C.; a brother, Sgt. Ronzie Jones of Augusta, Ga.; two grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.

Mrs. Walker is survived by three sons, Matthew Miller of Cheraw, S.C., Ellis Walker of Queens, N.Y., and Jimmie Walker of Wilmington, Del.; three daughters, Margaret Walker of Pinehurst, Mary Monroe of Aberdeen and Allie Ray of Southern Pines; four sisters, Atlanta York and Genera McLean, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., Eva Zimmerman of Southern Pines, and elder Essie Blunt of Bennettsville, S.C.; 38 grandchildren; and 68 great-grandchildren.
