LUMBERTON -- John Robert Burns, 72, of Barker Ten Mile Road died Sunday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Floyd Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Stan Gallagher-Smith. Burial will be in Meadowbrook Cemetery.

Mr. Burns is survived by his wife, Carlene K. Burns of the home; two sons, John R. Burns Jr. and Raymond C. Burns, both of Lumberton; three daughters, Susan McCray and Beth Ward, both of Lumberton, and Sarah K. Burns of San Fransisco; six sisters, Sarah B. Caine of Cary, Mary L. Branan of Raleigh, Jean Spivey and Frances Britt, both of Lumberton, Gladys Holton of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Dorothy Graham of Durham; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Gladys P. Burns Scholarship Fund, care of Lynn Price, 1741 Russ Road, Lumberton, N.C. 28358.

Larry R. Odom (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

Larry Ray Odom, 48, of Cade Hill Avenue, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Great Marsh Baptist Church in St. Pauls by the Rev. Richard Hathaway. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Mr. Odom is survived by his wife, Judy Odom of Tampa, Fla.; four sons, Larry R. Odom Jr. of the home, Joseph Odom of Louisville, Ky., and Bobby Odom and Buddy Odom, both of Tampa; three daughters, Tammy Odom, Thelma Odom and Linda Odom, all of Tampa; two brothers, Archie E. Odom of St. Pauls and Tommy Odom of Gastonia; five sisters, Margaret O. Caulder and Betty Caulder, both of St. Pauls, Jean Smith of Tar Heel, Jeanette Nance of Chadbourn and Diane Moore of Lumberton; and five grandchildren.

Ophelia B. Wilkerson (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

PIKEVILLE -- Ophelia Bass Wilkerson, 90, of Wilderness Drive, formerly of Robeson County, died Monday in Wayne County Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Floyd Memorial Chapel in Lumberton by the Rev. Richard Brown. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Mr. Wilkerson is survived by a son, Graddy Wilkerson of Fayetteville; two daughters, Barbara F. Brown of Pikeville and Keith W. Carter of Goldsboro; two brothers, Wilton Bass of Clarksville, Va., and Blease Bass of Kenersville; a sister, Bernice Jackson of Bladenboro; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

The family will recieve friends Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Glenda C. Winfrey (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

SPRING LAKE -- Mrs. Glenda Carol Winfrey, 41, of 312 West Dove Ridge Lane died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Liberty Baptist Church by the Revs. C.P. Tarkington and Craig Conners. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Winfrey is survived by her husband, William C. Winfrey of Spring Lake; a daughter, Victoria B. Winfrey of Spring Lake; a son, William B. Winfrey of Spring Lake; and three sisters, Carolyn Lucas, Diane Yocca and Jean Smith, all of Spring Lake.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Adcock Funeral Home.

Lloyd L. Deal (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Lloyd Lee Deal, 68, of 841 Pleasant Hope Road died Saturday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Mr. Deal was a retired painter. He attended Fair Point Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Fair Point Baptist Church by the Revs. Johnie Chavis and Tracy Locklear. Burial will be in Pleasant View Church cemetery in Fairmont.

Mr. Deal is survived by his wife, Helen I. Deal of the home; four sons, Johnifare Deal of Clinton, James L. Deal, Dewayne Deal and Jerry Lewis, all of Lumberton; two daughters, Letenia Hunt and Teressa Deal, both of Lumberton; a sister, Christine Freeman of Lumberton; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont.

Mrs. Annie S. Leggett (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

DUBLIN -- Mrs. Annie Ree Sessoms Leggett, 81, of Dublin died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Dublin First Baptist Church by the Rev. Warren Hill. Burial will be in Allen Cemetery.

Mrs. Leggett is survived by three daughters, Hattie L. Dove of Dublin, Patricia L. Cashwell of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Betty L. Fields of Henderson; a son, Robert Leggett of Bladenboro; two sisters, Sarah G. Pittman of Fayetteville and Rachel Singletary of Fairmont; and two brothers, Elwood Sessoms of Orlando, Fla., and L. Buck Sessoms of Lumberton.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Kinlaw Funeral Home.

Ms. Ida M. Ellerbe (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

ROCKINGHAM -- Ms. Ida Mae Ellerbe, 89, of 108 Ida Ellerbe Drive died Sunday in Palmer Henson Rest Home.

Arrangements will be announced by Nelson Funeral Service of Hamlet.

Walton Smole (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

Walton Smole, 28, of 416 Park Lane, Fayetteville, died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Tucker & Sons Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Rockfish Memorial Park.

Mr. Smole is survived by his wife, Anita Smole of Fayetteville; a son, Shelton W. Smole of the home; his parents, John B. and Elaine M. Smole of Detroit; a brother, John B. Smole Jr. of Detroit; and two sisters, Lucelia Smole of Liberia, West Africa, and Trafina Smole of Detroit.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at the funeral home.

David L. Williams (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

ROSE HILL -- David L. Williams, 54, of 1951 Herring Road died Friday in Sampson Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Little Piney Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Harold Boykin. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Williams is survived by a daughter, Patrina Williams of Roseboro; a son, Brian L. Williams of Roseboro; two brothers, Jim Bridges Jr. of Magnolia and Lewis H. Bridges of Columbus, Ga.; a sister, Mary E. McLain of Rose Hill; and two grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Carter Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Patrina Williams, 2419 Bass Lake Road, Roseboro.

Mrs. Ruth C. Black (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

SANFORD -- Mrs. Ruth Combs Black, 78, of 345 Seawell Rosser Road died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Sanford Church of God by the Rev. Eugene Powers. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, George W. Black of the home; a son, Billy F. Markham of Virginia; three daughters, Emma Gaster of Sanford, Betty Wallace of Jacksonville, Fla., and Janice Lamm of Swanns Station; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-granchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

Ralph Smith (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

Retired Army Sgt. Major Ralph Smith, 68, of 1134 Landau Drive, Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.

William R. Roller (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

LAUREL HILL -- William Russell Roller, 77, of Springs Mill Road died Sunday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park in Laurinburg. Arrangements are being handled by Butler Funeral Service.

Mr. Roller is survived by his wife, Bessie B. Roller of Hamlet; two sons, Randy Roller of Laurel Hill and David Roller of Laurinburg; a daughter, Hilda Reemes of Fayetteville; a sister, Doris Tyner of Laurel Hill; and five grandchildren.

Mrs. Fanny H. Smith (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

PEACHLAND -- Mrs. Fanny Hutchison Smith, 93, of Peachland died Sunday in Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Ga.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Peachland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Unity Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Moore Funeral Home of Wadesboro.

Among Mrs. Smith’s survivors is a son, John W. Smith Jr. of Hope Mills.

Dwight B. Dickson (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

SOUTHERN PINES -- Retired Army Col. Dwight B. Dickson, 83, of 989 Knollwood Village, formerly of Sanford, died Friday in Manor Care Nursing Facility.

Mr. Dickson was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. He was an Airborne and Special Forces Officer, and taught ROTC at Lee Senior High School for eight years.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Sanford by the Rev. Douglas Hodson. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mr. Dickson is survived by his wife, Myra Dickson of the home; a son, Dwight B. Dickson Jr. of Leavenworth, Kan.; two daughters, Susan D. Brown of Fayetteville and Rebecca D. Godwin of Rocky Mount; a brother, Lon R. Dickson of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nine grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Sanford.

Mrs. Emma J. Starling (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. -- Mrs. Emma Lee Joyner Starling, 60, of Summerville, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Brookvalley Chapel. Burial will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Parks Funeral Home.

Mrs. Starling is survived by her husband, Archie M. Starling of Summerville; three sisters, Marie Couch of Durham, N.C., Cora Brown of Reidsville, N.C., and Elsie Davis of Bailey, N.C.; and a brother, Wiley M. Joyner of Rocky Mount, N.C.

Lamar ‘Bo’ Heath Sr. (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998)

CLINTON -- Lamar “Bo” Heath Sr. of 180 Southwood Drive died Sunday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Hillcrest Cemetery by the Rev. Charles R. Jernigan. Arrangements are being handled by Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home.

Mr. Heath is survived by two daughters, Nell H. Caldwell of Clinton and Mildred B. “Millie” Gulinello of Boston; a son, Lamar “Buddy” Heath Jr. of Clinton; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Mrs. Brenda Ann Moore Douglas, 42, of Springfield, formerly of Maxton, N.C., died Monday in Massachusetts Medical Center.

Dwain Keith Smith, 45, of 910 Chestnut St., Fayetteville, died Sunday in his home.

Ms. Betty Jean Gunther, 37, of 1225 Elliott Circle, Fayetteville, died Nov. 10 in her home.
