ROCKINGHAM -- Mrs. Betty Roach, 68, of 169 Stelley’s Church Road died Saturday in Richmond Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Nelson Funeral Service.

Miss Martha Jenkins (Dated Monday, Nov. 16, 1998)

DUNN -- Miss Martha Jenkins, 74, of Johnson Better Care Facility died Sunday in Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements will be announced by Dafford Funeral Home.

Mrs. Irene H. Tart (Dated Monday, Nov. 16, 1998)

DUNN -- Mrs. Irene Hobson Tart, 82, of 1641 Prospect Church Road died Sunday in Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cromartie-Miller & Lee Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Phil Davis and Chuck Herrin. Burial will be in Devotional Gardens.

Mrs. Tart is survived by two sons, Johnny L. Tart of the home and Jerry B. Tart of Angier; a daughter, Margie T. Pleasant of Dunn; three brothers, Garland Hobson of Angier, Raymond Hobson of Mount Olive and Lester Hobson of Erwin; a sister, Ina Gardner of Fostoria, Ohio; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Godwin Chavis Sr. (Dated Monday, Nov. 16, 1998)

MAXTON -- Godwin Chavis Sr., 61, of 2444 Modest Road died Sunday in Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Cherokee Chapel Methodist Church by the Revs. Jimmy Locklear, Julian Ransom and Steve Locklear. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Thompson’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Chavis is survived by his wife, Annie C. Chavis of the home; two sons, Travis Rogers of Red Springs and Micheal Chavis of Maxton; five daughters, Fern Redriguez of Red Springs, Denise Chavis of Miami, Darlene Quick of Maxton, Susan Foxy of Blacksheer, Ga., and Deidra Chavis of the home; his stepmother, Loshie Locklear of Maxton; four brothers, Clarence Woods, Delton Chavis, Leon Chavis and Harlen Chavis, all of Maxton; eight sisters, Ruth Oxendine, Oniel Sailors, Doris Scott, Barbara Wilcox, Laura Freeman, Nina Locklear, Francine Henderson and Lisa McMillian, all of Maxton; and nine grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight beginning at 7 at the church.

Mrs. Beulah M. Pratt (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Mrs. Beulah M. Pratt, 82, of 316 Stuart St., Fayetteville, died Sunday in Integrated Health Services of Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in New Bethel AME Zion Church by the Rev. Eric Speight. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Pratt is survived by a son, Eddie Pratt of Fayetteville; three daughters, Lois Stewart of Petersburg, Va., Almeta Quinn of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Linda Morgan of Chesterfield, Mich.; 28 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Herman Shaw (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Herman Shaw, 63, of 3842 Camden Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Julious L. Koonce (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Julious Lee Koonce, 66, of 3109 Cumberland Road, Fayetteville, died Tuesday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Mrs. Cely A. DelCorro (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Mrs. Cely A. DelCorro, 74, of 423 Jamestown Ave., Fayetteville, died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Rogers and Breece Funeral Home.

Robert E. Hunter (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Retired Army Sgt. Maj. Robert E. Hunter, 73, of Fayetteville died Sunday in Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Mr. Hunter was a veteran of World War II and the Vietnam War. During his military career he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va. Arrangements are being handled by Clements Funeral Service of Durham.

Mr. Hunter is survived by a son, Bruce Hunter of Williamsburg, Va.; two daughters, Gabriele Turner of Williamsburg and Stephanie Brown of Arlington; a brother, Charles Hunter of New Haven, Ind.; three sisters, Lucille Murphy of Scottdale, Pa., Doris Fullen of Mill Run, Pa., and Alice Shelton of Bridgeton, N.J.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Arlington National Cemetery Reception Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to the American Heart Association.

Mrs. Lizzie P. Davis (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

Mrs. Lizzie P. Davis, 91, of 3009 Scarlett Place, Fayetteville, died Monday in Golden Years Nursing Home in Falcon.

Mrs. Davis was a foster mother for the Cumberland County Department of Social Services.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Parkton Church of God by the Rev. Billy Blackmon. Burial will be in Cross Creek Cemetery.

Mrs. Davis is survived by two brothers, Lester Polston of Fayetteville and Douglas Polston of Laurinburg.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.

Mrs. Mary H. Thornton (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

ELIZABETHTOWN -- Mrs. Mary Inez Hughes Thornton, 85, of Len-Care of Elizabethtown, formerly of Chadbourn, died Tuesday.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Ricky Donaldson.

Mrs. Thornton is survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn.

Colon C. Cole Jr. (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

SANFORD -- Colon C. Cole Jr., 76, of 111 Steel Bridge Road died Tuesday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Pocket Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Burwell Shore and Keith Miller. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Cole is survived by his wife, Mozelle C. Cole of Sanford; a daughter, Patricia C. Holmes of Raleigh; a son, Jim Cole of Sanford; two brothers, Andrew L. Cole of Birmingham, Ala., and Bill Cole of Sanford; three sisters, Margaret C. Ogelsby of Atlanta, Virginia C. Reaves of Snellville, Ga., and Meta C. Walsch of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice of Montgomery County, 404 N. Main St., Troy, N.C. 27371.

Mrs. Nona O. Hunt (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

PROCTORVILLE -- Mrs. Nona Oxendine Hunt, 65, of 401 Spruce St. died Monday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Mrs. Hunt was a homemaker and a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Piney Grove Baptist Church in Fairmont by the Revs. Crafton Chavis and Billy Burns. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hunt is survived by her husband, Charles W. Hunt of the home; six sons, Melton Hunt and Roger Hunt, both of Lumberton, Glen Hunt of Fairmont, Mickey Hunt and Jamie Hunt, both of Rowland, and Shawn Hunt of the home; two daughters, Janie L. Hunt of the home and Cheryl Owens of Rowland; her mother, A.J. Oxendine of Fairmont; a brother, James A. Oxendine of Maryland; three sisters, Francis Oxendine, Vista G. Oxendine and Janie McFarland, all of Fairmont; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Floyd Funeral Services in Fairmont.

Miss Nina R. Richardson (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

BENSON -- Miss Nina Ruth Richardson, 67, of 400 N. Farmers Drive died Monday in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Smithfield.

Arrangements will be announced by Dafford Funeral Home of Dunn.

Mrs. Cleo B. Barefoot (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Cleo Baggett Barefoot, 88, of Roseboro died Monday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Roberts Grove Free Will Baptist Church by the Revs. Fred Baker and Paul Honeycutt. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by West & Dunn Funeral Home of Newton Grove.

Mrs. Barefoot is survived by two sons, Mitchell Barefoot of Roseboro and Donnie Barefoot of Salemburg; two sisters, Lou D. Wood of Dunn and Annie L. Fringle of Annapolis, Md.; and a grandson.

The family will receive friends at the home of Donnie and Nancy Barefoot, 9506 Dunn Road in Salemburg.

Oscar Henderson Jr. (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

PEMBROKE -- Oscar Henderson Jr., 46, of 209 Chattanooga St. died Tuesday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Revels Funeral Home.

Luis M. Alvarez (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

KILLEEN, Texas -- Luis M. Alvarez, 68, of Killeen died Sunday.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in St. Joseph Catholic Church by Father Sunny Sebastian. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home.

Among Mr. Alvarez’s survivors is a daughter, Ivette Douglas of Fayetteville, N.C.

Jason P. King (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

WHITEVILLE -- Jason Paul King, 21, of Whiteville died Tuesday.

Ozell Johnson (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

LAUREL HILL -- Bishop Ozell Johnson, 82, of 22521 Bunch Road died Tuesday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Morris Funeral Home.

Miss Viola G. Williamson (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)

ROBBINS -- Miss Viola Grace Williamson, 70, of 395 Arthur Road died Monday in her home.

Miss Williamson was a member of Smyrna United Methodist Church. She retired from Milliken Co.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Smyrna United Methodist Church by the Rev. J.R. Tatum. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Miss Williamson is survived by two sisters, Doris W. Carswell of Richmond, Va., and Margaret W. Hussey of Robbins; and a brother, Charles C. Williamson of Graham.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Kennedy Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Smyrna United Methodist Church, care of Frances Cagle, 1924 Howard Mill Road, Robbins, N.C. 27325.
