ERWIN -- Weldon Edwin Horne, 70, of 908 Lucas St. died Monday in Rex Hospital in Raleigh.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in East Erwin Baptist Church by Dr. Ron Byrd. Burial will be in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Dunn.
Mr. Horne is survived by his wife, Rachael P. Horne of Erwin; three sons, Barry E. Horne of Cary, Michael “Kent” Horne of Marietta, Ga., and W.R. “Randy” Horne of Fayetteville; four brothers, Junius L. Horne, Robert F. Horne and Hardie W. Horne, all of Dunn, and Ronnie O. Horne of Stedman; five sisters, Louise Williams, Peggy R. Jones and Jennie R. Johnston, all of Erwin, Clara J. Horne of Dunn and Karen E. Lamm of Morehead City; and four grandchildren.

Ms. Alma E. Larson (Dated Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998)
SOUTHERN PINES -- Ms. Alma Elvina Larson, 90, of 680 S. May St. died Tuesday in her home.
Ms. Larson was a member of Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was a retired public school teacher.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Brownson Memorial Presbyterian Church by the Revs. Grady Perryman and Chris Moore-Keish. Burial will be in Dassel Cemetery in Dassel, Minn.
Ms. Larson is survived by a son, Brian Larson of Southern Pines; a daughter, Patricia L. Copley of Southern Pines; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

LUMBERTON -- Rufus Burns Jr., 65, of 1320 Deep Branch Road died Monday in his home.
Mr. Burns was a retired farmer.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday in Deep Branch Baptist Church by the Revs. James A. Hunt, Bobby Burns, Billy Burns and O.J. Burns. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Burns is survived by three daughters, Wanda Burns-Ramsay of Raleigh, Sharon K. Deese of Pembroke and Karen “Mook” Privetter of Zebulon; two sons, Phillip Locklear of Fairmont and Rufus L. Burns of Pembroke; six brothers, Billy Burns, Bobby Burns, Delton Burns and Joseph Burns, all of Lumberton, O.J. Burns of Fayetteville and Stanford “Treat” Burns of Maxton; three sisters, Betty L. Kilroy of Rowland, Lillian McKenzie of Aberdeen and Mary Cleveland of Lumberton; and 17 grandchildren.

PARKTON -- Mrs. Ethel McNair of 889 W. Tobemory Road died Tuesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

DUNN -- John Willie “J.W.” Thornton, 64, of 144 New Path Road died Monday in his home.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Dixon family cemetery by the Rev. Jerome Pope.
Mr. Thornton is survived by a daughter, Connie Denise; four sisters, Ann T. Stewart and Betty T. Elliott, both of Dunn, and Julia M. Strickland and Maude E. Denton, both of Raleigh; a brother, James K. Thornton of Mount Mitchell; and two grandchildren.

John Henry Spencer, 71, of 410 Chatham St., Fayetteville, died Friday in UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.
Mr. Spencer was a baker at Dainty Maid Bakery for 30 years before retiring.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Forestville AME Zion Church in Lilesville by the Rev. Grimes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Paye Funeral Home & Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Spencer is survived by two brothers, James Spencer of Fayetteville and George Tillman of Mabrane, Del.

PINEHURST -- Myrtith A. Brown, 73, of 173 Floyd Way died Monday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Love Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Jackson Hamlet by the Rev. James Leach. Burial will be in Jackson Hamlet Community Cemetery.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Mildred Brown of Pinehurst; three daughters, Jacqueline Robinson, Laoma Thomas and Shirley Brown, all of Pinehurst; two sons, Richard Brown of Pinehurst and Myrtith Brown Jr. of Dayton, Ohio; five sisters, Celestine Morgan of Dayton, Lottie Carney of Laurelton, N.Y., Evelyn Goodrich of Bronx, N.Y., Iona Brown of Richmond Hill, N.Y., and Juanita Lowe of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a brother, Harold Brown of Jamaica, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

NEWTON GROVE -- Mrs. Connie F. Warwick, 38, of 5494 Bradshaw Road died Tuesday.
Mrs. Warwick was a registered nurse and a health occupations teacher at Hobbton High School.

Mrs. Warwick is survived by her husband, Keith Warwick; four sons, Daniel Warwick, Christopher Warwick, Samuel Warwick and Aaron Warwick, all of the home; a daughter, Dana Warwick of the home; her parents, Sam and Dixie French of Mount Olive; two sisters, Debbie Dilinger of Mount Olive and Tammy Williams of Fayetteville; her paternal grandmother, Estelle French of Fort Barnwell; and her maternal grandmother, Frances Harrell of Mount Olive.

WINSTON-SALEM -- Mrs. Maggie Richardson Taylor, 90, of Winston-Salem, formerly of Fayetteville, died Monday in Triad Methodist Home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Phillip Cole. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Thursday in LaFayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by three children, Marguerite T. Hixon of Mount Airy, Elizabeth L. Jones of Stowe, Vt., and the Rev. John L. Taylor Jr. of Albermarle; five siblings, Alton Richardson, Ruth Taylor, Thelma Smith, Hazel Bennett and Pansy Teague; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

CARTHAGE -- Mrs. Grace W. Needham, 86, of 1126 J. Dowdy Road died Sunday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethlehem Baptist Church by the Revs. Ernest L. Johnson and Charles Lassiter. Burial will be in Flint Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Mrs. Needham is survived by four daughters, Shirley Hooker, Maxine Needham, Nancy Cummings and Virginia Harris, all of Carthage; three sons, James Needham, Jerry Needham and Leon Needham, all of Carthage; a sister, Glennie Williamson of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

HALLSBORO -- Thomas “T.B.” Rhodes, 77, of 345 Clyde Collier Road died Sunday in his home.
Mr. Rhodes was an Army veteran.

Shaw, both of Hallsboro; a foster daughter, Regina O. Shaw of the home; a foster son, Terrance O. Shaw of Lumberton; and two sisters, Violet Point of Wilmington and Olena Mitchell of Pittsburgh, Pa.

COUNCIL -- Vonnie Lee Graham, 93, of Council died Friday in Premier Living in Lake Waccamaw.

Mrs. Elliott is survived by two sons, Austin Elliott of Chadbourn and Gilbert C. Elliott of Fort Mills, S.C.; three daughters, Mavis E. Causey and Naomi E. Hill, both of Lexington, and Doris E. Shelly of Cream Ridge, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- William A. “Bill” Isgett, 70, of Hartsville died Sunday.

John Dates (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)
Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class John Dates, 77, of 819 Marchland Drive, Fayetteville, died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Mr. Dates retired from the Army after 20 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Mr. Dates was Santa Claus for 17 years at Eutaw Village Shopping Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Spring Lake.
Mr. Dates is survived by his wife, Jennie P. Dates of Fayetteville; a son, John J. Dates of Fayetteville; and a sister, Laurentia Cismas of Dallas, Ore.
