Howard V. Bright, 68, of Fayetteville died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Bright retired from Carolina Power and Light Co.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. James Tatum. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Bright is survived by his wife, Etrue Bright of the home; two daughters, Sheree Croft of Fayetteville and Debbie Banko of Parkton; two sons, Mike Bright of Fayetteville and Tommy Bright of Parkton; two brothers, J.W. Bright of Fayetteville and Bobby Bright of Hope Mills; a sister, Doris Smith of Fayetteville; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Dr. Lacy J. Parsons (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Dr. Lacy Jack Parsons, 83, of 2204 Rowland Ave. died Sunday in N.C. Cancer Institute.

Dr. Parsons served as a captain in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today in First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Sam Warner. Arrangements are being handled by Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

Dr. Parsons is survived by his wife, Margaret G. Parsons of the home; two sons, Lawrence H. Parsons of Princeton, N.J., and Jack W. Parsons of Wilmington; a sister, Virginia Rosenthal of La Jolla, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home.

Mrs. Lena L. Whitted (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

ST. PAULS -- Mrs. Lena Lane Whitted, 85, of 313 E. Worth St. died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in McKinnon Cemetery.

Mrs. Whitted is survived by three daughters, Anita Cunningham of Teaneck, N.J., Betty Whitted of Bronx, N.Y., and Sarah Whitted of the home; two sons, Earl Whitted of Manhattan, N.Y., and Willie “Sham” Whitted of St. Pauls; two adopted daughters, Patsy Wilkins of Rennert and Sherrill McDougal of Raleigh; two adopted sons, Johnny Locklear of St. Pauls and Robert McDougal of Fayetteville; 22 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary in Fayetteville.

Rudolph Barr (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

Retired Army Sgt. 1st Class Rudolph Barr, 66, of 5101 Banyon Road, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in New Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church by the Rev. Marion Wright. Burial will be in Cumberland Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Barr is survived by his wife, Lula M. Barr of the home; a daughter, Linda D. Jackson of Dillon, S.C.; a brother, Adolph Barr of Dillon; two sisters, Alice Stephens of Lumberton and Beatrice Bryant of Tabor City; and five grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Mrs. Mary K. Magiera (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

PINEHURST -- Mrs. Mary Krenzel Magiera, 86, of Pinehurst died Sunday.

Mrs. Magiera was a member of Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Our Saviour Lutheran Church by Dr. David Keck and the Rev. Scott Homesley. Burial will be in Mary Hill Cemetery in Niles, Ill. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home & Crematory.

Mrs. Magiera is survived by a son, Leo Magiera of Pinehurst; four sisters, Frances Zakrzeski of Linden, N.J., Julia Krenzel of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Josephine Jagozinski of Swoyersville, Pa., and Anne Klepp of Kearney, N.J.; two brothers, Stanley Krenzel of Sublette, Ill., and Joseph Krenzel of Kearney, N.J.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Our Saviour Lutheran Church, Southern Pines, N.C.

John W. ‘J.W.’ Thornton (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

DUNN -- John Willis “J.W.” Thornton, 64, of 144 New Path Road died Monday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Skinner Funeral Home.

Mrs. Nona O. Hunt (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

PROCTORVILLE -- Mrs. Nona Oxendine Hunt, 65, of 401 Spruce St. died Monday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

Arrangements will be announced by Floyd Funeral Services of Fairmont.

Mrs. Alice Stocks (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

Mrs. Alice Stocks, 80, of Route 5, Box 321-A, Fayetteville, died Sunday in her home.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Freewill Holiness Church in Turnbull by the Rev. Christine Rich. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Stocks is survived by two sons, J.C. Stocks and Roosevelt E. Stocks, both of Fayetteville; a stepson, Levander Stocks of Autryville; a stepdaughter, Billy McLaurin of Fayetteville; a brother, Paul McDowell of Fayetteville; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 8 p.m. at Wiseman Mortuary.

Allie ‘Richie’ Register Jr. (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

MARGATE, Fla. -- Allie Rich “Richie” Register Jr., 46, of Margate, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Saturday.

The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Monday in Aaron Cremation and Burial Services in Lauderhill. Burial was in Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Mr. Register is survived by his wife, Dawn of Margate; two daughters, Lisa Kivett and Wendy Kivett, both of Hope Mills, N.C.; a son, Jesse R. “J.R.” Register of Margate; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Biermann of Pompano Beach and Melissa Biermann of West Palm Beach; his father and stepmother, Allie and Shirley A. Register Sr. of Wilmington, N.C.; his mother, Faye Register of Fayetteville, N.C.; two sisters, Renee Register and Amy Altman, both of Fayetteville; and a grandson.

Frank B. Hoover III (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

PINEHURST -- Retired Air Force Maj. Frank Bentley Hoover III, 68, of 6 Scott Lane died Sunday in Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday in Emmanuel Episcopal Church by the Revs. Mary Markham and James D. Franklin. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Powell Funeral Home.

Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife, Joan C. Hoover of Pinehurst; a son, Wesley C. Hoover of Pinehurst; two daughters, Janet H. Zielinski of Sanford and Mary A. Gulyas of Clifton Park, N.Y.; two brothers, Robert Hoover of Fayetteville and Wesley S. Hoover of Short Hills, N.J.; two sisters, Marion Kennedy of Fayetteville and Barbara O’Grady of Newport News, Va.; and five grandchildren.

The family will receive friends after the service in the church parish hall.

Mrs. Clara M. Lowry (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

BALTIMORE -- Mrs. Clara Mae Lowry, 72, of Baltimore, formerly of Pembroke, N.C., died Saturday in Virginia Beach, Va.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Tabernacle Baptist Church in Pembroke by the Revs. Henry W. Oxendine and Joseph Oxendine. Burial will be in Lumbee Memorial Gardens in Lumberton, N.C.

Mrs. Lowry is survived by a son, Glenn H. Lowry Jr. of Virginia Beach; a daughter, Debbie Eddings of Norfolk, Va.; two brothers, Grover Oxendine and Hartley Oxendine, both of Pembroke; a sister, Margaret Sampson of Pembroke; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home in Pembroke, and at other times at the home of Margaret Sampson, 239 Eddie Sampson Road, Pembroke.

Joseph M. Riddle Sr. (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

Joseph Max Riddle Sr., 62, of 1815 Spruce St., Fayetteville, died Monday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Mr. Riddle was a retired Command Sgt. Major for the Fayetteville Police Department.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in LaFayette Memorial Park.

Mr. Riddle is survived by his wife, Maria V. Riddle of the home; two sons, Jimmy Riddle and Max Riddle Jr., both of Erwin; a daughter, Maria R. Autry of Fayetteville; his mother, Lydia Reardon of Erwin; a brother, David B. Riddle of Sanford; a sister, Jane Woods of Erwin; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Columbus H. Ammons (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

PARKTON -- Columbus Henry Ammons, 55, of 404 Poplar St. died Sunday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in West Fayetteville Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Wilson. Burial will be in Parkton Cemetery.

Mr. Ammons is survived by a daughter, Wendy Meadows of St. Petersburg, Fla.; three sons, William S. Ammons of Largo, Fla., Henry D. Ammons of Parkton and Walter J. Ammons of Jacksonville; his mother, Mary J. Ammons of Parkton; two sisters, Margaret Williams and Sue Justice, both of Parkton; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends today from 1 to 5 p.m. at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

Ernest J. Evans (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

ANGIER -- Ernest James Evans, 57, of Lot No. 8, Crestview Trailer Park, formerly of Cumberland County, died Sunday in his home.

The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Cutts Chapel Free Will Baptist Church by elder Thomas Washington and Bishop Shirrell Robinson. Burial will be in Fayetteville Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are being handled by Dafford Funeral Home.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Maybelle Evans of the home; three daughters, Betty McKinnon and Ernestine Mbata, both of Angier, and Margaret McKinnon of Raleigh; three sons, James T. McKinnon of Raleigh and Charles McKinnon and David L. McKinnon Sr., both of Angier; seven sisters, Mary Abernathy, Mamie Evans, Josephine Evans, Ruby Carver, Lucille Robinson, Beatrice Hair and Delores Burns, all of Fayetteville; four brothers, Leardis Evans, George Burns Jr. and Harry Burns, all of Fayetteville, and Hurbert McDonald of Bisco; and 13 grandchildren.

The public will be received Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at the church.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 to 1 p.m. at the church.

Miss Katrina M. Canty (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

NEW YORK -- Miss Katrina M. Canty, 40, of 10 Post Ave., formerly of Bowdens, N.C., died Friday in Allen Pavilion Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church in Warsaw by Pastor Marcus O. Becton. Burial will be in Cobbs Cemetery.

Miss Canty is survived by her parents, Herbert Canty of New York and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Joyner Sr. of Faison, N.C.; three sisters, Glenda Tarver of Birmingham, Ala., Debra Gilmore of Martin, Tenn., and Tanny Bivens of New York; a brother, Archie Joyner Jr. of New York; and her maternal grandmother, Hazel Faison of Coney Island.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Robert ‘Bob’ Heath Sr. (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

WHITEVILLE -- Robert “Bob” Heath Sr., 78, of 316 E. Lewis St. died Monday in Columbus County Hospital.

Mr. Heath was a member of First Baptist Church. He was the founder of Waccamaw Electric, where he worked for 53 years.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial will be in Whiteville Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Heath is survived by his wife, Frances M. Heath of Whiteville; two sons, David Heath of Whiteville and Robert Heath Jr. of Macon, Ga.; a brother, Norman “Bud” Heath of Whiteville; and two granddaughters.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.

Edward ‘Ed’ Barbrey (Dated Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998)

CLINTON -- Edward Earl “Ed” Barbrey, 53, of 115-A Sycamore St. died Sunday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Royal-Hall Funeral Home chapel by the Revs. Joyce Bryant, Marshall Arnette, Sandra Diaz and Larry Parker. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery.

Mr. Barbrey is survived by his wife, Evelyn K. Barbrey of Clinton; two sons, Jimmy Barbrey of Clinton and Jeffrey Barbrey of Ingold; a stepson, Alex Kersey of Keener; a stepdaughter, Jennifer K. Walters of Spring Lake; his parents, Adise “Bud” and Minola G. Barbrey of Clinton; two brothers, Ronnie Barbrey of Clinton and Sandy Barbrey of Randleman; a granddaughter; and a step-grandson.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
