CLINTON -- Glenn Morris Shipp, 42, of 401 Park Ave. died Friday in his home.
Mr. Shipp was a Navy veteran. He was also a former pork producer.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. today in Clinton Cemetery by Dr. David Kolb. Arrangements are being handled by Royal-Hall Funeral Home.
Mr. Shipp is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. “Slick” Shipp of Clinton; and two sisters, Becky Kerr of Ivanhoe and Ruth A. Cromartie of Virginia Beach, Va.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Mrs. Willa M. Robinson (Dated Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998)
DUNN -- Mrs. Willa Moore Robinson, 85, of 211 E. Burke St. died Saturday in Carver Living Center in Durham.

Christopher V. Gaddy (Dated Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998)
SANFORD -- Christopher Vernon Gaddy, 33, of 1516 Phillips Drive died Friday in his home.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Buffalo Presbyterian Church by the Rev. William Pauley. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.
Mr. Gaddy is survived by his wife, Dale L. Gaddy of Sanford; a daughter, Hillary Gaddy of the home; a stepdaughter, Whitney Bullard of Hawaii; his parents, C.D. “Jack” and Connie D. Gaddy of Sanford; a brother, John Gaddy of Fort Benning, Ga.; and a sister, Cindy Willer of Lexington, S.C.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. -- Clarence M. Strickland, 60, of Bennettsville died Friday.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Whitner-Evans Funeral Home. Burial will be in Bristow Chapel Church cemetery.
Among Mr. Strickland’s survivors is a brother, John T. Strickland of Parkton, N.C.

DUNN -- Mrs. Vera Surles of 1005 E. Culbreth St. died Saturday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

Albert L. Barbour (Dated Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998)
RALEIGH -- Albert L. “Pop” Barbour, 78, of Raleigh died Friday.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in McLaurin Funeral Home chapel in Clayton by the Rev. Lacy Frye. Burial will be in Raleigh Memorial Park.
Among Mr. Barbour’s survivors is a son, Charles A. Barbour of Stedman.
Howard R. Whitaker Sr. (Dated Sunday, Nov. 1, 1998)
BARNARDSVILLE -- Howard R. Whitaker Sr., 81, of 25 Paint Fork Road, formerly of Fayetteville, died Friday.
Mr. Whitaker owned and operated Howard Whitaker Men’s Store in Fayetteville. He was also the co-owner of Ormond’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning. He was a charter member and deacon at Snyder Memorial Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Barnardsville Baptist Church by the Revs. Stephen Ackerman, Frank Hopkins and Sam Shackleford. Burial will be in the Whitaker family cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by West Funeral Home.
Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Whitaker; two daughters, Gaye W. Anderson of Richmond, Va., and Cornelia W. Shackleford of Roanoke, Va.; a son, Howard R. “Bob” Whitaker Jr. of Fayetteville; four sisters, Bernice Haynes and Lillie Embler, both of Asheville, Ina Embler of Barnardsville and Velda Pullen of Aberdeen; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Bonnie D. Copenhaver (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)
Mrs. Bonnie D. Copenhaver, 101, of Highland House Nursing Home, Fayetteville, died Saturday.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, in Fulton United Methodist Church in Rural Retreat, Va. Burial will be in Kimberlin Cemetery in Rural Retreat. Arrangements are being handled by Lindsey Funeral Home in Rural Retreat. Local arrangements are being handled by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
Mrs. Copenhaver is survived by two daughters, Nancy Garman of Fayetteville and Margaret Medley of Rural Retreat; three sons, Kent Copenhaver of Rural Retreat, Hugh Copenhaver of Atkins, Va., and Randolph Copenhaver of Wytheville, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fulton United Methodist Church.

CLINTON -- Mrs. Mattie B. Lane, 82, of 210 Bernice Road died Thursday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Butler & Son Funeral Home in Roseboro by the Rev. Harold Boykin. Burial will be in Sandhill Cemetery.
Mrs. Lane is survived by a daughter, Mattie Boone of Clinton; a sister, Ethel Smith of Durham; two foster daughters, Janice Wells of New York and Phyllis Oliver of Wilmington; a foster son, David Floyd of Southport; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

MAMERS -- Mrs. Allegra H. Patterson, 81, of Mamers died Saturday in her home.
She retired as a schoolteacher for the Harnett school system after 40 years of service.
The funeral will be conducted at 4 p.m. Monday in Antioch Baptist Church by the Rev. Martin Groover. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by a daughter, Jennie P. Stancil of Lillington; two brothers, Edward Hogan of Wingate and Lt. Col. Elton Hogan of Raleigh; a sister, Gaynelle Hogan of Blacksburg, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Mr. Ruter is survived by three sons, Rodney L. Ruter of California, Edgar “Butch” Ruter of Oregon, Ill., and Michael Ruter of Dixon, Ill.; a daughter, Darlene Christiansen of Sanford; two sisters, Alice Duitsman and Gertrude Bornemier, both of Forreston, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gracie L. Miller (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)
LAURINBURG -- Mrs. Gracie Louise Miller, 91, of 1321 Sunset Drive died Saturday in Scotland Memorial Hospital.
She was a retired textile worker.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in East Laurinburg Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Legrande Taylor. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial.
Mrs. Miller is survived by a daughter, Jewel Dial of the home; six grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harriett Johnson Hall, 83, of Fayetteville died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
She was retired from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Fayetteville.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Church of the Open Door by the Revs. Randy Hamrick and Harry Adams. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park.
Mrs. Hall is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was a retired schoolteacher for Bladen County schools and a member of Godwin Heights Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Floyd Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Lynn Bullock. Burial will be in New Hollywood Cemetery.
Mrs. Abbott is survived by her husband Horace Abbott of the home; and a sister, Doris Bartley of Lumberton.

ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Charles McClain, 83, of 14891 Aster Drive, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Wednesday in Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday in Lumber Bridge Presbyterian Church cemetery in Lumber Bridge, N.C., by the Rev. Earl M. Vaughn. Arrangements are being handled by Rogers & Breece Funeral Home of Fayetteville.
Mr. McClain is survived by a son, John McClain of Pfafftown; a daughter, Susan S. McClain of Allen Park; two sisters, Ruth Lowry of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Dorothy Baxter of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Louise Ray Smith, 54, of Fayetteville died Saturday in Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Retired Army Lt. Col. Wayne R. Smith of Fayetteville; a daughter, Kelli R. Soare of New York; a son, Hector Ray of Fayetteville; two stepdaughters, Shawn Smith and Erin Smith, both of Denver; two stepsons, Robert H. Smith of Houston and Kevin Smith of Hollywood, Calif.; his mother, Dorothy Ray of Fayetteville; two sisters, Joy Hall and Beth Ray, both of Fayetteville; and four grandchildren.
Ms. Elyse D. Murphy (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)
PINEHURST -- Ms. Elyse Doolittle Murphy, 72, of Pinehurst died Friday in Carolina House of Pinehurst.
She was formerly employed by the University of Wisconsin.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Boles Funeral Home and Crematory in Seven Lakes.
Ms. Murphy is survived by a sister, Nancy D. Stephens.
