SANFORD -- Mrs. Fonzie Boyd Dowd, 74, of 1713 Campbell Drive died Saturday in Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Lemon Springs Baptist Church. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Dowd is survived by a daughter, Janice Thomas of Broadway; two sons, W. Frank Boyd Jr. of Winston-Salem and Ronald E. Boyd of Sanford; two sisters, Ruth Nickens of Cameron and Iris Welborn of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Miller Funeral Home.

Robert W. Fairbanks (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

SANFORD -- Robert W. Fairbanks, 89, of 102 Carthage St. died Friday in Central Carolina Hospital.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Miller Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Buffalo Cemetery.

Mr. Fairbanks is survived by two sons, Ken Fairbanks of Cameron and Robert W. Fairbanks Jr. of Athens, Ala.; a brother, Ernest Fairbanks of Metrose, Mass.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the home of Ken Fairbanks, 684 Carthage St., Cameron.

Mrs. Barbara L. Royal (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

ROSEBORO -- Mrs. Barbara L. Royal, 43, of 705 Southeast St. died Thursday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in St. Thomas AME Zion church by the Rev. Harry Hines. Burial will be in Roseboro Cemetery.

Mrs. Royal is survived by her husband, Charles O. Royal; two daughters, Jessica Royal and Kisha Royal, both of the home; two sisters, Allene Collins of Washington, D.C., and Bettie Washington of Roseboro; three brothers, Henry Byrd of Apex, Ronald McLemore of Sanford and Robert Smith of Watha; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends today from 3 to 6 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home in Clinton.

Mrs. Helen Marable (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

CLINTON -- Mrs. Helen Marable, 63, of 226 Pearson St. died Thursday in Sampson Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Olivet Institutional Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie W. Bowden. Burial will be in Sandhills Cemetery.

Mrs. Marable is survived by five daughters, Alice Underwood, Joann Williams, Regina Williams, Bernadine Williams and Frances Sellars, all of Clinton; two sons, James Bellamy and Joe Sellars, both of Clinton; a sister, Roena Sharpe of Lakeland, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Brock Memorial & Worley Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thalia H. Lanehart (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

CLARKTON -- Mrs. Thalia Hobbs Lanehart, 73, of Clarkton died Friday in New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

She was a member of Western Prong Baptist Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Western Prong Baptist Church by the Rev. Willie A. Lawhorne. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lanehart is survived by her husband, James W. Lanehart of Clarkton; two sons, James D. Lanehart of Clarkton and Johnny Hobbs of LaPorte, Texas; two daughters, Diane Turner of Houston and Sherri Batson of Rock Point; a stepson, Maurice Andrews of Sneads Ferry; two stepdaughters, Janie Gaines of Jacksonville and Millie Prechtle of Sneads Ferry; two sisters, Lillie M. Powell of Green Sea, S.C., and Noani Ward of Whiteville; a brother, Olen Puckett of Whiteville; several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKenzie Mortuary in Whiteville.

Memorials may be made to Western Prong Baptist Church Youth Fund.

Charles L. Pollard Sr. (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

LUMBER BRIDGE -- Retired Army Master Sgt. Charles Lewis Pollard Sr., 62, of 3600 Barlow Road died Thursday in Womack Army Medical Center on Fort Bragg.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Fayetteville Community Church by the Rev. Ken Pritchard. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park West.

Mr. Pollard is survived by his wife, Helen Pollard; three sons, Charles L. Pollard Jr. of Lumber Bridge, Doug R. Cox of Hope Mills and Danny R. Cox of Fayetteville; a sister, Frances Elickraut of Denver; three brothers Hester Pollard of Phenix, Va., William Pollard of Raleigh and Stuart Pollard of Brookneal, Va.; his mother, Mary E. Pollard of Brookneal; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Reeves Funeral Home in Hope Mills.

Miss Doris J. Hair (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

LINDEN -- Miss Doris Jean Hair, 53, of Linden died Friday in Good Hope Hospital in Erwin.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Hubert A. Morgan. Burial will be in Palestine Presbyterian Church cemetery.

Miss Hair is survived by a brother, Phillip D. Hair of Erwin, three sisters, Ruthie J. Butler of Dunn, Vernie Kearns of Spring Lake and Betty S. Ivey of Linden.

The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 7 at the funeral home.

Bobby L. Lowery (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

PEMBROKE -- Bobby Lynn Lowery, 41, of 4322 Union Chapel Road died Friday.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Evergreen Holiness Church by the Revs. Grover Oxendine, Michael Cummings and Dwight Deal. Burial will be in the Lowery family cemetery.

Mr. Lowery is survived by two sons, Roy B. Lowery and Christopher L. Maynor, both of the home; two daughters, Brandi L. Lowery and Heather L. Maynor, both of Pembroke; his parents, Bob G. “Billy” and Shirley Cummings of the home; five brothers, Lacy Lowery, Carson Lowery, Tracy Lowery and Timothy R. Lowery, all of Lumberton, and David G. Lowery of the home; a sister, Shirlene Demery of Lumberton; and two grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

Leslie K. Page (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

ROSEBORO -- Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Leslie Kenneth Page, 70, of 6642 Fleet Cooper Road died Saturday in Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton.

He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and a retired mechanic and farmer.

The funeral will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Butler Funeral Home by the Revs. Ray Smith and John McBride. Burial with full military honors will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Page is survived by his wife, Betty R. Page of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Page of the home and Nancy Page of Natrona Heights, Pa.; two sons, Randy Page and Glenn Page, both of Roseboro; a sister, Edith Lewis of Fayetteville; and one grandchild.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Butler Funeral Home.

Norman Goodman Jr. (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

CHARLOTTE -- Norman Goodman Jr., 58, of 413 Lambeth Drive, formerly of Clinton, died Friday in his home.

Arrangements will be announced by Butler & Son Funeral Home of Roseboro.

Herbert Howington Sr. (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

PEMBROKE -- Herbert Marvin Howington Sr., 83, of 518 McInnis St. died Friday in Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton.

He was a former schoolteacher for Robeson and Sampson county schools and retired as principal of West Lumberton elementary school. Mr. Howington was a member of Burnt Swamp Baptist Church, Burnt Swamp Quartet and the Pembroke Men’s Chorus.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Burnt Swamp Baptist Church by the Revs. Gary Locklear, Keith Long and Henry W. Oxendine. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Howington is survived by his wife, Reather T. Howington of the home; four sons, Herbert M. Howington Jr. of Lumberton, Darryl E. Howington of Lumberton, Anon S. Howington and Horace D. Howington, both of Pembroke; four daughters, Brenda F. Bruce of Winston-Salem, Rosalyn Locklear of Vanceboro, Marla C. Lyda of Raeford and Kimberly R. Howington of Pembroke; a sister, Aggie Locklear of Lumberton; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Revels Funeral Home.

Ahhmere D. Smith (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

SANFORD -- Ahhmere Devon “Tiger” Smith, 7, of Sanford died Wednesday in Newport News, Va.

The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in Christian Provision Ministries by Minister Joey Gooch. Burial will be in Womack Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by Watson Mortuary.

Ahhmere is survived by his mother, Sheila S. Holland of Newport News; his father, Derrick D. McIver of Sanford; four brothers, James R. Griffin and Kevin Holland Jr., both of Newport News, Derrick McIver of Sanford and Ketrell Marshall of Greensboro; his maternal grandmother, Carolyn S. Smith of Sanford; and his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Taylor Jr.

The family will receive friends at the home of Carolyn Smith, 113 Austin St., Sanford.

Mrs. Mamie K. Pope (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

LUMBERTON -- Mrs. Mamie Knuckles Pope, 80, of Lumberton died Friday in her home.

She was a former schoolteacher for the Lumberton city and Robeson county school systems and past president of the Teacher’s Education Association. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and a charter member of the Matron’s Guild.

A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in St. Francis Catholic Church by Father Thomas Watkins. Burial will be in Gardens of Faith Cemetery.

Mrs. Pope is survived by a daughter, Marie P. Taylor of Lumberton; a sister, Sadie K. Williams of Lumberton; a brother, Dr. Joseph Knuckles of Fayetteville; and three grandchildren.

A rosary and prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. tonight in McMillan Funeral Home in Lumberton.

Mrs. Mamie Adams (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

Mrs. Mamie Adams, 59, of 6111 Kimbrook Drive, Fayetteville, died Saturday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

Arrangements will be announced by Wiseman Mortuary.

Lionel Anderson (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

RAEFORD -- Lionel Anderson, 61, of 365 Doc Brown Road died Saturday in FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Arrangements will be announced by Buie Funeral Home.

Jonathan Morrison (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

Jonathan Lee Morrison, 48, of 2004 Poinciana Lane, Fayetteville, died Wednesday in Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Wiseman Mortuary chapel by Evangelist Marjorie Counts. Burial will be in Lafayette Memorial Park West.

Mr. Morrison is survived by three daughters, Dana Grant, Denise Smith and Arleshia Smith, all of Fayetteville; a son, Jonathan Smith of Fayetteville; three sisters, Alene M. Johnson and Brenda Coppedge, both of Fayetteville, and Catherine Jamison of San Diego; two brothers, Clyde Morrison and Joseph Morrison, both of Fayetteville; and nine grandchildren.

The public will be received today from 1 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

The family will receive friends at the home of Alene M. Johnson, 6120 Conaway Drive, Fayetteville.

Eugene Foy (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

BALTIMORE -- Eugene Foy, 63, of Baltimore, formerly of Fayetteville, N.C., died Friday.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Fountain Baptist Church in Baltimore by the Rev. Herman Ford. Burial will be in Baltimore. Local arrangements are being handled by Wiseman Mortuary.

Mr. Foy is survived by his wife, Maggie Foy of the home; three sisters, Doris Foy, Rosa L. Foy and Sylvia F. Robinson, all of Fayetteville; and two brothers, Alexander Foy of Baltimore and Ashley Foy of West Haven, Conn.

Ms. Lillie S. Powell (Dated Sunday, May 10, 1998)

CLINTON -- Ms. Lillie Mae Sessoms Powell, 82, of 705 Elizabeth St. died Friday in her home.

She was a member of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church and the Women of the Moose.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in Crumpler-Honeycutt Funeral Home by the Rev. William Hawkins. Burial will be in Clinton City Cemetery.

Ms. Powell is survived by a son, Namon Register of Clinton; two sisters, Lee E. Sessoms of Roseboro and Jessie S. Lucas of Fayetteville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
